Getting Started
Lincoln and Sam head north of Sandgem Town with Dawn to get started on building up their Pokemon teams. As they walk down the forest path, Lincoln hears some rustling from nearby; when he looks, a dark gray, bird-like Pokemon flies out from a nearby tree and swoops towards them, making them duck to the ground.
"What Pokemon is that?" asked Sam before she takes out her pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Starly, the Starling Pokemon. Usually with a large flock, it is barely noticeable when alone. Its cries are very strident." said Sam's pokedex.
"I got this one." said Lincoln.
"Go for it, bro." said Sam. Lincoln takes out his Chimchar's pokeball, and releases him from it.
"Chimchar, use Leer!" said Lincoln. Chimchar stares harshly at the Starly, making it nervous, along with lowering its defense. The Starly reacts by flying at Chimchar, and rams into his chest.
"Be careful, Lincoln." said Sam.
"Don't worry, Sam." said Lincoln. "Chimchar, use Scratch!" Chimchar leaps at the Starly and scratches it across its torso, making it fall to the ground. Lincoln quickly takes an empty pokeball out of his backpack and throws it at the Starly, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"You did it, bro!" said Sam. Lincoln smiles in response before walking over to the pokeball and picks it up.
"I caught Starly!" said Lincoln. He looks up his new Pokemon's information on his pokedex. "This says my Starly is a boy, he knows Tackle and Growl, and he has the Keen Eye ability which keeps his accuracy from being lowered."
"That was great, Lincoln!" said Dawn as she runs over to Lincoln and hugs him. They hear some chuckling and look to see Sam smirking at them; realizing what she must be thinking, Dawn quickly lets go while she and Lincoln both blush.
"Oh, don't mind me." said Sam in a teasing manner.
"Very funny, sis." said Lincoln.
"Sorry, little bro." said Sam with a soft smile.
"Good work, Chimchar." said Lincoln as he rubs Chimchar's head.
"Chimchar." said Chimchar with a smile.
"Let's keep looking around." said Sam. The three wander around a bit before they hear some melodic sounds coming from a bush nearby; they check out the bush where the sounds were coming from and see a red, bipedal, bug-like Pokemon with black antennae, that it was rubbing together, which was making the sound. "Sounds like music."
"Yeah, what is that?" asked Lincoln as he takes out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Kricketot, the Cricket Pokemon. It chats with others using the sounds of its colliding antennae. These sounds are the hallmarks of fall evenings." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"I'll get this one." said Sam, pulling out a pokeball. "Piplup, go!" She throws Piplup's pokeball and releases her, getting the Kricketot's attention. "Okay, Piplup, use Pound!" Piplup runs to Kricketot and hits it with one of her flippers, knocking Kricketot back. The Kricketot runs to Piplup and hits her with one of its hands. "Piplup, use Pound one more time!" Piplup hits Kricketot with her flipper again, knocking it to the ground.
"I think it's weak enough, Sam." said Lincoln. Sam quickly takes out a pokeball and throws it at Kricketot, hitting it; it gets sucked into the pokeball, after it wiggled around a few times; it clicks. "Righteous! I caught a Kricketot!"
"Great job, Sam." said Lincoln. Sam looks up Kricketot's information on her pokedex.
"This says Kricketot's a boy, he knows Growl and Pound, and he has the Shed Skin ability, which cures him of any status condition he gets." said Sam.
"Let's keep looking around some more." said Lincoln. As they continue to explore, they soon come across a brown, furry Pokemon with four small legs, and two large teeth sticking out of its mouth. Lincoln points his pokedex at it to learn what it was.
"Bidoof, the Plump Mouse Pokemon. It constantly gnaws on logs and rocks to whittle down its front teeth. It nests alongside water." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"Chimchar, let's catch this one!" said Lincoln.
"Chimchar!" said Chimchar as he runs in front of Lincoln.
"Chimchar, use Scratch!" said Lincoln. Chimchar runs at the Bidoof and claws at it. The Bidoof responds by running at Chimchar and ramming him. "Use Scratch one more time!" Chimchar claws at the Bidoof again, knocking it onto its side; Lincoln then quickly takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Bidoof, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"Awesome, Lincoln!" said Sam. Lincoln looks up his new Bidoof's information on his pokedex.
"This says my Bidoof is a girl, she knows Tackle and Growl, and she has the Simple ability which doubles the power of any stat changes." said Lincoln. He gets another notification on his pokedex. "Hey, my Chimchar just learned Ember!"
"That's great, Lincoln!" said Sam. "We should train up the Pokemon we have with us right now."
"Good idea." said Lincoln. After he and Sam use potions on their Pokemon, they get to work training them.
Lincoln's Chimchar learned Taunt, his Starly learned Quick Attack and Wing Attack, and his Bidoof learned Defense Curl and Rollout.
Sam's Piplup learned Water Gun and Charm, her Shinx learned Thunder Shock and Charge, and her Kricketot learned Struggle Bug.
"Wow; you guys are doing really good." said Dawn.
"Thanks, Dawn." replied Lincoln.
"So, what are you going to do now?" asked Dawn.
"I guess we should take our Pokemon to the Pokemon Center; they trained really hard today, so they need a good rest." said Lincoln.
"Yeah, and it is getting close to lunchtime." said Lincoln.
"So, back to Sandgem?" asked Sam.
"Yeah, we can grab something to eat while our Pokemon are being treated." said Lincoln.
"Let's go then!" said Dawn as she runs ahead of them towards Sandgem Town. As Lincoln and Sam follow after her, they talk for a bit.
"So, Lincoln." Sam started to say in a teasing manner.
"Yeah?" Lincoln replied in a suspicious tone of voice.
"What do you think of Dawn?" asked Sam with a grin on her face.
"She's very nice." said Lincoln.
"You gonna ask her out?" asked Sam. Lincoln blushes a bit and looks away with a sad expression on his face.
"I don't know yet." said Lincoln. "I'm still not quite over Stella breaking up with me." Sam looks at Lincoln with a sad look on her face.
"Sorry, little bro." said Sam.
"It's okay." said Lincoln. "At least Pokemon training helps me take my mind off it for a bit."
"Yeah, at least there's that." said Sam.
"Guys!" Dawn's voice yells out, startling them. They all run to where they hear Dawn yelling from and soon find her standing in front of what appeared to be some sort of dome-shaped mass of air.
"What is that?" asked Lincoln.
"I don't know." said Dawn. Out of curiosity, Lincoln gets a little closer to it.
"Lincoln, be careful; we don't know if it's safe or not." said Sam. All of a sudden, a small, dripping wet, foxlike Pokemon with whitish gray fur on most of its body, red-tipped ears, along with a thick ring of pure white fur that fades to pink around its neck, two red dots on its forehead, yellowish orange eyes, a white fluffy, red-tipped tail, along with a tuft of white fur on its head with a long wisp of it that changes from pink to red at the end of it; comes out of the dome and runs into Lincoln, making him fall backwards onto his back.
"Lincoln!" said the girls as they run to check on him.
"Are you okay?" asked Sam.
"Yeah, I'm fine." said Lincoln. He looks down at the Pokemon that came out of the dome that was starting to fade away.
"What Pokemon is that?" asked Sam.
