Ballonlea Gym Battles (Part Five)
Once entering the Test Area, Clyde walks onto the stage where he was asked questions by each trainer; he answered all of them correctly, and defeated each trainer after answering them.
"Well done, Clyde; you passed the Gym Test." said Opal.
Moments later, Clyde and Opal were on the battlefield while Lincoln and his sisters and friends were watching from the crowd while his parents, his remaining sisters, Clyde's dads, the Santiagos, and Simon Sharp watched in the Loud house in Royal Woods. An official walks onto the center of the field.
"This gym battle will be against the Gym Leader Madam Opal, and the Gym Challenger Clyde McBride." said the official. "Both trainers will use four Pokemon. Whichever trainer is able to defeat all of their opponent's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the match begin." Clyde and Opal both walked to opposite ends of the battlefield; once there, they each pull out a pokeball.
"Mawile, go!" said Opal, tossing Mawile's pokeball and releasing it.
"Opal starts off with her Mawile; what Pokemon will Clyde bring out first?" asked the announcer.
"Go, Flareon!" said Clyde, throwing Flareon's pokeball and releasing her.
"And Clyde's first Pokemon is a Flareon." said the announcer. Mawile bared the fangs of its ponytail jaws, making Flareon nervous and lowering her attack strength.
"Flareon, use Fire Fang!" said Clyde. Flareon leaps at Mawile while her mouth was covered in fire and she bites Mawile, dealing super effective damage.
"Mawile, Crunch!" said Opal. Mawile bites Flareon with its ponytail jaws while she was still near it, damaging her, and weakening her defense. "Now use Sucker Punch!" Mawile punches Flareon across the face, damaging her.
"Flareon, Lava Plume!" said Clyde. Flareon releases an explosion of smog and fire from her body, and it hits Mawile, dealing super effective damage to it.
"Use Bite!" said Opal. Mawile runs at Flareon and bites her with its ponytail jaws, damaging her, but not making her flinch.
"Flareon, Fire Spin!" said Clyde. Flareon releases a stream of fire from her mouth, and it surrounds Mawile, dealing super effective damage to it, and knocking it out.
"Mawile is unable to battle. Flareon wins the match." said the official.
"Clyde's Flareon has defeated Opal's Mawile. What will Opal do now?" asked the announcer.
"Great job, Clyde!" said Lincoln. Back at Royal Woods, Howard and Harold McBride were cheering.
"Our Clyde is doing great out there." said Harold.
"Yes, but he still has to beat three more of Opal's Pokemon." said Howard.
"I believe in our boy, Howard." said Harold.
"So do I, Harold." said Howard, holding Harold's hands. They both continued watching the gym battle. Back at Ballonlea Stadium, Opal returns Mawile to its pokeball.
"You did all you could, Mawile." said Opal. She returns Mawile to its pokeball and puts it away; she then pulls another pokeball out of her waist. "Weezing, go!" She tosses Weezing's pokeball and releases it.
"Opal's second Pokemon is her Weezing." said the announcer.
"Question!" said Opal. "What is my nickname. The Wizard or the Magic User?"
"The Wizard." replied Clyde.
"Correct." said Clyde. Flareon begins surging with energy and her attack strength increases. "Flareon, Fire Fang!" Flareon runs at Weezing and bites it with fire coated fangs, damaging it.
"Weezing, Sludge Bomb!" said Opal. Weezing launches a ball of sludge from its mouth, and it hits Flareon, damaging her; it turned purple under Flareon's eyes.
"Flareon's poisoned!" said Ronnie Anne. Flareon coughs and loses stamina from the poison.
"Flareon, Quick Attack!" said Clyde. Flareon runs at Weezing with incredible speed and rams it, knocking it back.
"Double Hit!" said Opal. Weezing flies at Flareon and rams her, knocking her up into the air; Weezing rams Flareon again, knocking it to the ground. Flareon coughs from her poisoning and loses the last of her energy, causing her to pass out.
"Flareon is unable to battle. Weezing wins the match." said the official.
"Opal's Weezing has beaten Clyde's Flareon. What Pokemon will Clyde bring out next?" asked the announcer.
"You can do it, Clyde!" said Lincoln.
"Keep battling!" said Ronnie Anne. Back at the Loud residence, Howard and Harold were watching with concern while holding hands.
"Oh, poor Flareon." said Howard.
"I do hope she'll be okay." said Harold.
"I'm sure she will." said Rita. Back at Ballonlea Stadium, Clyde returns Flareon to her pokeball.
"You did great out there, Flareon." said Clyde. He puts Flareon's pokeball away; he then pulls another pokeball out of his belt. "Incineroar, go!" He throws Incineroar's pokeball and releases him.
"Clyde's next Pokemon is his Incineroar." said the announcer.
"Incineroar, Fire Fang!" said Clyde. Incineroar leaps at Weezing with fire covered fangs, and he bites Weezing, dealing damage; Weezing becomes covered in fire.
"I think Weezing's burned now." said Lana.
"Weezing, use Sludge Bomb!" said Opal. Weezing fires a ball of sludge at Incineroar, hitting him. Weezing winces in pain from its burn and it loses stamina.
"Incineroar, Fury Swipes!" said Clyde. Incineroar leaps at Weezing and claws it repeatedly, dealing damage.
"Weezing, Sludge!" said Opal. Weezing releases a stream of black sludge from its mouth, and it hits Incineroar, damaging him. Weezing winces in pain from its burn and it loses more stamina.
"Fire Fang!" said Clyde. Incineroar leaps at Weezing while his fangs were surrounded by fire and he bites Weezing, dealing enough damage to knock it out.
"Weezing is unable to battle. Incineroar wins the match." said the official.
"Clyde's Incineroar has defeated Opal's Weezing, bring her down to two Pokemon." said the announcer.
"You're doing great, Clyde!" said Luna.
"Keep it up!" said Sam. Back at Royal Woods.
"That's our Clyde!" said Harold.
"We believe in you, Clyde!" said Howard.
"That Incineroar looks so cool!" said Simon. Back at Ballonlea Stadium, Opal returns Weezing to its pokeball.
"You were wonderful out there, Weezing." said Opal. She puts Weezing's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Togekiss, go!" Opal tosses Togekiss' pokeball and releases it.
"Opal's next Pokemon is her Togekiss." said the announcer.
"Question!" said Opal. "What is my favorite color? Pink or Purple?"
"Pink." said Clyde.
"Incorrect." said Opal. Incineroar's speed decreases. "Togekiss, Aura Sphere!" Togekiss lifts up its wings and forms a blue ball of energy between them; it launches it at Incineroar, hitting him, and dealing super effective damage.
"Incineroar, Fire Fang!" said Clyde. Incineroar leaps at Togekiss and bites it with fire covered fangs, damging it; fire surrounds Togekiss' body.
"Now Togekiss is burned." said Lincoln.
"Togekiss, Air Slash!" said Opal. Togekiss' wings glowed blue; it then flaps them, releasing cirucular energy blades from them and they hit Incineroar, damaging him.
"Incineroar, Fury Swipes!" said Clyde. Incineroar leaps at Togekiss and repeatedly claws it, damaging it. Togekiss flinches in pain from her burn, and it loses stamina.
"Togekiss, Ancient Power!" said Opal. Togekiss becomes covered in silver energy; it forms into a ball and Togekiss launches it at Incineroar, hitting it, and dealing super effective damage.
"Incineroar, Fire Fang!" said Clyde. Incineroar bites Togekiss with fiery fangs, damaging it.
"Aura Sphere!" said Opal. Togekiss forms a ball of blue energy between its wings, and it launches it at Incineroar, dealing super effective damage; Incineroar was suddenly surrounded by an orange aura.
"I think that's Incineroar's Blaze ability!" said Lincoln. Togekiss receives damage from its burn and loses stamina.
"Okay, Incineroar, use Fire Fang!" said Clyde. Incineroar's mouth was covered in more intense flames, and it bites onto Togekiss, dealing damage.
"Extreme Speed!" said Opal. Togekiss flies at Incineroar with incredible speed and rams him, knocking him to the ground, unconscious; Togekiss winces in pain from its burn and passes out.
"Both Pokemon are unable to battle. It's a draw." said the official.
"Opal's Togekiss had beaten Clyde's Incineroar, but Togekiss' burn has taken its toll on it, resulting in a double knockout." said the announcer. "Opal is down to her last Pokemon while Clyde has two remaining." Clyde and Opal both returned their Pokemon to their pokeballs.
"You were great, Incineroar." said Clyde.
"You were splendid, Togekiss." said Opal. Both trainers put their pokeballs away and they each pulled out another one. "You're doing well, Clyde; but you still have to beat one more Pokemon to win my Fairy Badge. Alcremie, go!" She tosses Alcremie's pokeball and releases it.
"Opal's final Pokemon is her Alcremie." said the announcer.
"Venusaur, go!" said Clyde, throwing Venusaur's pokeball and releasing him.
"And Clyde's next Pokemon is a Venusaur." said the announcer. Both trainers returned their Pokemon to their pokeballs, and used their Dynamax Bands to enlarge them. Clyde throws his, releasing a now Gigantimaxed Venusaur while Opal heaves her, releasing her now Gigantimaxed Alcremie.
"Both trainers have Gigantimaxed their Pokemon!" said the announcer. Lincoln and Ronnie Anne were restraining Lana while Luna and Sam were restraining Lola as the twins tried to get at the Gigantimaxed Alcremie, drooling.
"Question!" said Opal. "How old am I? Sixteen or eighty-eight?"
"16." said Clyde, being respectful.
"I approve of that answer." said Opal. Venusaur begins surging with energy and his special defense increases.
"Vensaur, Max Overgrowth!" said Clyde. Venusaur launches seeds and they land around the battlefield; giant blades of grass and mushrooms grow from the field, and they explode, damaging Alcremie, and making glowing green grass grow from the field.
"Alcremie, Max Mindstorm!" said Opal. Alcremie unleashes multicolored rings of energy from above it and they hit Venusaur, dealing super effective damage. Both Pokemon glowed green and some of their wounds heal from the Grassy Terrain created by Max Overgrowth.
"Vensaur, G-Max Vine Lash!" said Clyde. Two massive vines with energy surrounding the end of them come out from the flower on Vensaur's back and they strike Alcremie, dealing massive damage due to Rose Incense and Grassy Terrain powering up Venusaur's grass type attacks. Vines come up from the ground and they wrap around Alcremie.
"Alcremie, Max Mindstorm!" said Opal. Alcremie unleashes more multicolored rings from above it and they hit Vensaur, dealing super effective damage to it. The vines wrapped around Alcremie begins squeezing it, dealing more damage. Grassy Terrain heals some of Venusaur and Alcremie's wounds. Venusaur becomes surrounded by a green aura.
"Venusaur's Overgrow ability!" said Clyde. "Okay, Venusaur, G-Max Vine Lash once more!" Venusaur releases two massive vines from its flower on its back and they smash onto Alcremie, dealing massive damage. Alcremie returns to its regular size and passes out.
"Alcremie is unable to battle. Vensaur wins. The winner of this gym battle is the Gym Challenger, Clyde McBride." said the official.
"It's over! Clyde's Vensaur has defeated Opal's Alcremie to earn Clyde the victory!" said the official.
"We did it!" cheered Clyde. He runs to Vensaur as he returned to his regular form, and he hugs him.
"That was amazing!" said Lincoln.
"It totes was!" said Leni. Back at Royal Woods, Howard and Harold were hugging with tears in their eyes.
"Our boy won!" cried Harold.
"I'm so proud of him!" cried Howard. They both began sobbing.
"Someone get some tissues." said Rita. Back at Ballonlea Stadium, Opal returned Alcremie to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Alcremie; I'm proud of you." said Opal. She puts Alcremie's pokeball away and walks over to Clyde. He sees Opal coming and stopped hugging Venusaur. "You raised your Pokemon quite well, Clyde."
"Thanks, Opal." said Clyde. Opal then holds out a Fairy Badge to Clyde.
"For your victory here in the Ballonlea Gym, I present you with the Fairy Badge." said Opal. Clyde takes the Fairy Badge, along with pokedollars.
Later, at the stadium's lobby, Lincoln and the others were congratulating Clyde.
"That was some battle, Clyde." said Lincoln.
"We're totes glad you won." said Leni.
"We all are." said Lucy from behind Clyde, scaring him.
"Looks like you're up now, bro." said Luna.
"Go get her, Lincoln." said Ronnie Anne.
As Lincoln goes into the test area, the girl from earlier (a/n: Chapter 88) was watching him enter before heading into the stadium bleachers.
After being told the rules of the Gym Test, Lincoln begins; he manages to answer all three questions correctly and defeat all the trainers. During the battles, his Alolan Sandshrew learns Swords Dance.
Once Lincoln passed his Gym Test, he enters the arena and walks to the center of it as Opal does while his friends and siblings cheer him on.
"You can do it, Lincoln!" said Lana.
"Don't hold back!" said Ronnie Anne.
On the field, Lincoln and Opal were talking to each other.
"I think it's great that Lola was chosen to be your successor, ma'am." said Lincoln.
"She had all the qualities I was looking for." said Opal. She and Lincoln walk to opposite ends of the field while an official walks to the center of it.
"This gym battle will be against the Gym Leader Madam Opal, and the Gym Challenger Lincoln Loud." said the official. "Both trainers will use four Pokemon. Whichever trainer is able to defeat all of their opponent's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the match begin."
Lincoln and Opal each pull a pokeball off of their waists; Opal tosses hers, releasing her Mawile.
"And Opal starts out with her Mawile!" said the official. "What is Lincoln going to use?"
Lincoln tosses his pokeball, releasing his Lucario.
"And Lincoln starts out with a Lucario!" said the announcer. Mawile's Intimidate ability activates; but nothing happens to Lucario.
"Lucario's ability is Inner Focus." said Lincoln. "Intimidate won't work on him."
"I see you've been paying attention to the last several matches." said Opal.
"Lucario, use Sword Dance!" said Lincoln. Lucario closes his eyes as blue glowing swords appear around him and cross together, making a red aura cover him and increase his attack power.
"Mawile, use Crunch!" said Opal. Mawile runs at Lucario and bites down on him with its ponytail jaws, not doing much damage to him.
"Lucario, use Bone Rush!" said Lincoln. Lucario forms a bone-shaped staff in his hands and strikes Mawile repeatedly with it multiple times, doing super effective damage, and knocking it out.
"Mawile is unable to battle. Lucario is the winner." said the official.
"Incredible!" said the announcer. "Lucario makes quick work of Mawile. What will Opal do now?"
"Nice one, Lincoln!" said Clyde.
"You can do it, Linky!" said Leni. The girl that was watching Lincoln back in the lobby was staring at him with admiration.
Back at the Loud house, everyone was cheering Lincoln on.
"Man, Lucario is so cool!" said Lynn Jr.
"And strong!" said Lori.
"Hope he can hang in there." said Lynn Sr.
Back at Ballonlea Stadium, Opal returns his Mawile to its pokeball.
"Rest now, dearie." said Opal. She puts Mawile's pokeball away and pulls another one off her waist; she throws it, releasing her Weezing.
"And Opal sends out her Weezing!" said the announcer. "Can it beat Lincoln's Lucario?"
"Question!" said Opal. "What is my nickname? Wizard or magic-user?"
"Wizard sounds more like a nickname, so I'll go with that." said Lincoln.
"Correct!" said Opal. A surge of energy rises up from Lucario, increasing his special defenses.
"Lucario, use Metal Claw!" said Lincoln. Lucario's wrist spikes glowed white as he strikes Weezing, dealing super effective damage; a surge of energy rises up from Lucario, increasing his attack power.
"Weezing, use Heat Wave!" said Opal. Weezing releases a blast of intensely hot air that hits Lucario, dealing super effective damage, but not as much as it normally would've thanks to the increase he got to his special defenses.
"Lucario, keep using Metal Claw!" said Lincoln. Lucario keeps on striking Weezing with Metal Claw while Weezing kept blasting him with Heat Wave. After a minute of the back-and-forth attacks, Weezing gives in and passes out.
"Weezing is unable to battle. Lucario is the winner." said the official.
"And Lucario takes down another of Opal's Pokemon!" said the announcer. "Can it keep up the momentum and win this match for Lincoln?"
"Keep it up, Lincoln!" said Lana.
"You can do it." said Lucy.
Back at the Loud house, everyone continues to support Lincoln.
"Lincoln's doing quite well." said Lynn Sr.
"That's our boy." said Rita.
"He's halfway there." said Luan.
Back at Ballonlea Stadium, Opal was returning his Weezing to its pokeball.
"You're doing quite well, young man." Opal says to Lincoln.
"Thank you." said Lincoln. Opal puts Weezing's pokeball back on her waist and pulls off another one; she throws it, releasing her Togekiss.
"And Opal brings out her Togekiss next!" said the announcer.
"Question!" said Opal. "What is my favorite color? Pink or purple?" Lincoln examines Opal and sees her boa.
"Since your boa is purple, I'll go with that." said Lincoln.
"Correct!" said Opal. A surge of power rises up from Lucario, increasing his attack power.
"Lucario, use Quick Attack!" said Lincoln. Lucario moves quickly at Togekiss and rams into it, sending it flying back a bit.
"Togekiss, use Aura Sphere!" said Opal. Togekiss fires a sphere of blue energy at Lucario.
"Lucario, use Endure!" said Lincoln. Lucario crosses his arms in front of himself and takes Togekiss' attack; he manages to withstand it, but he was almost at his limits.
"Lucario's not looking too good." said Lana.
"He's almost wiped." said Luna.
"Do you want to continue, Lucario?" asked Lincoln who notices his Pokemon's condition, getting a nod in response. "If that's what you want, then I won't stop you; Lucario, use Metal Claw!" Lucario runs at Togekiss and slashes it with his wrist spikes, doing super effective damage.
"Togekiss, use Air Slash!" said Opal. Togekiss flaps its wings, releasing a blade of wind that hits Lucario and knocks him out.
"Lucario is unable to battle. Togekiss is the winner." said the official.
"Unbelievable!" said the announcer. "Togekiss manages to take down Lucario. Now Lincoln's down to three Pokemon! Can Opal pull off an upset?!"
"Harsh." said Luna.
"Lincoln's not beaten yet!" said Ronnie Anne.
"He can win this!" said Clyde.
Back at the Loud house, everyone was continuing to watch Lincoln's battle.
"That stinks." said Lynn Jr with a frown.
"Lucario still did well." said Howard McBride.
"He fought for as long as he could." said Harold McBride.
"I can respect that." said Lynn Jr.
Back at Ballonlea Stadium, Lincoln was returning his Lucario to his pokeball.
"Rest up, buddy." said Lincoln. He puts Lucario's pokeball back on his waist and reaches for his Sandshrew's pokeball before he realizes he hasn't used Cinderace in a battle yet and hasn't seen his Gigantamax Form yet. He pulls off his Cinderace's pokeball and lets him out of it.
"And Lincoln brings out his Cinderace!" said the announcer.
"Lincoln's first Pokemon." said Clyde.
"Why didn't he go with his Alolan Sandshrew?" asked Lola.
"He probably has a return for that." said Sam.
Back on the field, Lincoln and Cinderace were getting ready for battle.
"Cinderace, use Pyro Ball!" said Lincoln. Cinderace kicks up a nearby pebble and juggles it with his feet before it suddenly turns into a fireball that he kicks right at Togekiss, resulting in a fiery explosion that knocks it out.
"Togekiss is unable to battle. Cinderace is the winner." said the official.
"Wow!" said the announcer. "Now Opal's down to her last Pokemon. Can she come back from behind and win the gym match?!"
"Nice one, Lincoln!" said Lana.
"Just one more to go, buddy!" said Clyde. The girl that was watching Lincoln was still doing so with a blush on her face.
Back at the Loud house, everyone was continuing to support Lincoln.
"That was literally amazing." said Lori.
"Would Lincoln let me have Cinderace on my soccer team?" asked Lynn Jr.
"Is that allowed?" asked Lynn Sr.
"There's no rule saying that it isn't." said Lynn Jr.
Back at Ballonlea Stadium, Opal returned her Togekiss to its pokeball.
"You did well, Togekiss." said Opal. She puts Togekiss' pokeball back on her waist and pulls off her last one; she tosses it, releasing her Alcremie.
"And Opal brings out her Alcremie!" said the announcer. "We all know what she's gonna do now!" Opal then returns it to its pokeball and uses her Dynamax Band to enlarge it before she heaves it as hard as she could, letting her Alcremie back out, only Gigantamaxed.
"Question!" said Opal. "How old am I? 16 or 88?" Having experienced what happens when you make a female angry, Lincoln decides to play it safe.
"16." said Lincoln.
"I love that answer." said Opal. A surge of energy rises up from Cinderace, increasing his special attack power. Lincoln then pulls up one of his sleeves, revealing his Dynamax Band.
"This is unprecedented!" said the announcer. "Is Lincoln actually going to Dynamax his Pokemon?!"
"I'm confident that my Cinderace doesn't need to do that to win; but he recently got the ability to Gigantamax and I'm curious about what it's like." said Lincoln before he returns his Cinderace to his pokeball; he then uses his Dynamax Band to enlarge it and tosses it as hard as he can, letting his Cinderace back out in his Gigantamax Form. Cinderace's ears were a lot longer, and he was sitting on a massive ball of fire with a face on it that looked like his.
"It's Gigantamax Alcremie vs Gigantamax Cinderace!" said the announcer.
"That is so cool!" said Lincoln with excitement.
"Look at that fireball!" said Clyde.
"It's like a small sun!" said Sam.
"With a face on it!" said Lola.
"This should be good!" said Ronnie Anne.
"Cinderace! Use G-Max Fireball!" said Lincoln. Gigantamax Cinderace leaps off the fireball and kicks it as hard as he can, sending it flying at Gigantamax Alcremie, causing a massive explosion that forces both trainers to shield their eyes.
"Such power!" said the announcer. When the dust clears, Alcremie was finished shrinking to its normal size, unconscious.
"Alcremie is unable to battle. Cinderace is the winner. The winner of the match is the Gym Challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the official.
"Incredible!" said the announcer. "Lincoln's Cinderace takes out Alcremie in one hit, earning him the victory!"
"Way to go, Cinderace!" said Lincoln as his Pokemon returns to his normal size.
"That was amazing!" said Leni.
"Lincoln won!" said Lana.
"I knew he would!" said Clyde.
On a TV in the lobby, Marnie was watching Lincoln's image on the screen with a smile and blush on her face.
"He's so cool." said Marnie.
Back at the Loud house, everyone was celebrating Lincoln's victory.
"He won!" said Lynn Sr.
"Cinderace is so awesome!" said Lynn Jr.
"Literally!" said Lori.
Back at Ballonlea Stadium, Opal was just returning her Alcremie to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Alcremie." said Opal. She puts her pokeball away before walking over to Lincoln who was hugging Cinderace. "I must say, that was impressive."
"Thank you." said Lincoln. Opal reaches into her pocket and pulls out a Fairy Badge.
"As proof of your victory, I present you with the Fairy Badge." said Opal as she hands it, along with some pokedollars, to Lincoln.
"Thank you." said Lincoln as he holds up his badge in triumph. As he does, the girl in the bleachers was continuing to look at him.
'Lincoln; you will be mine, laddie.' the girl thinks to herself.
Clyde and Lincoln have both earned their Fairy Badges, and it seems that Lincoln has another female admirer. What else is in store for the group as their Galar adventure continues?
