Welcome back to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. Last time, the trio of Spyro, Cynder, and Spider-Man met up at Octavius Industries only to discover Doctor Octavius had taken his prosthetic technology to the next level, incorporating four telescoping arms with claws on his back into a suit via neural link. But when the trio reviewed the data, they saw a dreadful truth, the link wasn't isolating motor neurons. It could easily be affecting other parts of Doctor Octavius' brain. He put up a convincing act of powering down the device, pending some reworking and sent everybody home. But when Norman Osborn came on air taking credit for taking down Mister Negative, Octavius snapped, reactivated the arms, and boldly declared Osborn had no idea what was coming for him. Do we want an idea? Probably not. But something tells me Doctor Octavius isn't giving us a choice in the matter. But for now, our tale resumes as we left it...
(Our tale resumes on the roof of Octavius Industries, where Spider-Man, now suited up again, joins Spyro and Cynder in a swing across New York City, when Spider-Man realizes something)
Spider-Man: We'd better check on Miles.
Spyro: (Realizing he completely forgot) You're right. This is a huge moment for him. I hope he's taking it well.
Cynder: Hold on, I'll make the call. (Dials Miles Morales) Hey, Miles. Cynder here. Hope you don't mind that Spyro and Pete are on the line.
Miles Morales: (Via the phone) No worries. What's up?
Spyro: Guessing you heard the news about Martin Li.
Spider-Man: Listen, if you don't want to continue at F.E.A.S.T., we all understand. And I'm sure May will too.
Miles Morales: (Via the phone) Being completely honest, I did want to quit when I heard. But then I remembered what my dad always used to say. "A hero's just a guy who doesn't give up"
Cynder: (Remembering Jefferson Davis in that moment) Wise words indeed.
Spider-Man: Wise assuming you're doing the right thing. We got you that job, and I'd hate for you to keep doing it if you thought it was wrong.
Miles Morales: (Via the phone) The people here, nothing Martin Li did was their fault. They need help, and I'm helping them. I think this is what Dad would want me to do. I think he'd be proud.
Spyro: Speaking as a close friend, I couldn't agree more.
Cynder: We're all proud of you, Miles.
Spider-Man: Hey, if you ever need to talk, don't hesitate to call. My line's always open.
Miles Morales: (Via the phone) Thanks everyone. I've got to run, picking up a list of office supplies. Talk to you later. (Hangs up.)
(In that time, the trio has made it to the F.E.A.S.T. Center, and after Spider-Man resumes civilian garb, the trio enters and spots Aunt May in the facility kitchen)
Cynder: Hey, May.
Aunt May: Peter, Spyro, Cynder! Good to see you again.
Spyro: How're you doing?
Aunt May: Getting by. A little tired, but it's worth it.
Spider-Man: I'm... honestly not sure how I feel about you running this place by yourself.
Aunt May: These people need help. If I lose a few hours of sleep over it, so be it.
Spider-Man: Have you... heard from Mr. Li since...
Aunt May: (Sighs) No. But the Martin I know couldn't have done that. Whatever's become of him, that's not the Martin Li I want to remember, nor is it the one I'm going to remember. (To Spider-Man) So, how're things with MJ?
Spider-Man: (Caught off guard) Oh, it's... um... you know... she's... it's complicated.
Aunt May: (Seeing he needs advice) Honesty. That's what got me and Ben through the rough patches.
Spider-Man: (Slightly caught off guard) You guys had rough patches?
Aunt May: Heavens, yes. Especially when we were your age. (With a somewhat knowing inflection) So, are you honest with her? Does she know the real you?
(But before Spider-Man can answer, one of the patrons of F.E.A.S.T. yells something out)
F.E.A.S.T. Patron: Turn it up! You're going to want to hear this!
(And soon enough, the volume on the main TV is turned up, revealing a news broadcast with the headline "Sable Vehicle Attacked")
Reporter: A spokesperson for the police has confirmed that this was the truck carrying the device used in the Grand Central Terminal attack...
Aunt May: (As the reporter continues) It never ends...
Spyro: That's an understatement.
Cynder: Here we go again.
(But by the time Aunt May turns around, Spider-Man, Spyro, and Cynder are gone.)
Aunt May: Peter? Okay, Spyro and Cynder vanishing I can understand, but why does he always vanish too?
(And as night falls outside, our tale ends for today)
And that looks like the perfect place to wrap up for now. Next time, things really get hectic. That's all I think I'm able to say at this point. Though that much was probably obvious since the Devil's Breath has been stolen. AGAIN! But... who's behind this? Mister Negative's been sent to The Raft. Right? Things are about to start popping off next time. So be sure to tune in for that. Same time... same channel!
