Welcome back to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. Last time, Spider-Man, Spyro, and Cynder finally decided to check in at F.E.A.S.T. after taking down it's founder. A few things were clear. Firstly, Miles Morales is staying at the center even after Mister Negative was stopped. Good on him. And secondly, Aunt May is not giving up on F.E.A.S.T., choosing to remember the Martin Li she knew rather than let Mister Negative ruin that for her. And along the way she gave Spider-Man some relationship advice regarding MJ. Spyro and Cynder probably took it to heart as well regarding Ember and Flame. But that's when things went wrong again, as somebody attacked the truck carrying the Devil's Breath. The trio immediately went into action after that. So, what awaits? Read on to discover...
(Our tale picks up with Spider-Man, Spyro, and Cynder flying and swinging across NYC, with Spyro dialing Yuri as they go. But sadly, the message just goes to voicemail)
Yuri's Voicemail: Captain Watanabe, leave a message.
Spyro: Yuri, call us back when you get this.
Cynder: Any luck?
Spyro: Straight to voicemail. Yuri's probably on the scene already.
Spider-Man: So we need to get there, fast. And just hope the Devil's Breath is still there.
Cynder: If the Demons got their hands on that stuff again, the situation just got upgraded from bad to catastrophic.
Spider-Man: You can say that again.
(And within moments, the trio arrives on the scene, landing on the incident side of the police barricades. And their worst fears are immediately realized, as the dispersal device that had the Devil's Breath canister in it is empty, only for an NYPD helicopter to pass by, with Yuri in it. She syncs her communication system to the trio's as she flies by, while something explodes in the distance.)
Yuri: The Devil's Breath is gone, but we've got bigger problems.
Spyro: Ryker's Island.
Cynder: Let's go!
(Wasting no time, the trio catches up with Yuri's helicopter, Spider-Man actually sticking to it as they fly off towards Ryker's Island.)
Spider-Man: What happened here?
Yuri: It was a coordinated attack. Must've been planned from the outside. Every cell block is breached. We are literally minutes away from all of Ryker's Island's prisoner population walking straight up Fifth Avenue.
Cynder: Because of course Li had a contingency plan.
Spyro: What about The Raft?
Yuri: Should be fine. Supermax facility, better security, separate power grid, all that jazz.
Spider-Man: What about the Devil's Breath?
Yuri: Should be fine. Sable's handling it.
Cynder: After what just happened, I'm thinking Sable may be overwhelmed.
Yuri: That's why she told me directly to call you in.
Spider-Man: All three of us?
Yuri: I knew it was all three or nothing with Spyro and Cynder, and she begrudgingly agreed.
Spyro: Then let's go to work.
(As soon as Spyro says that line, he, Cynder, and Spider-Man drop into Ryker's Island. And right away, chaos is unfolding as a bunch of prisoners are trying to drive a prison van through the gates. The van hits the gates but Spider-Man leaps onto the side and pulls out the driver)
Spider-Man: You really should have worn your seatbelt.
(Spyro breathes an Ice ramp in front of the van to redirect it away from the city, only to end up sending it into a giant gas tank. Spider-Man slings off just as the van hits the tank and explodes.)
Spider-Man: A little warning next time you try to kill me?
Spyro: Guess my trajectory was a bit off.
Cynder: No time to worry about it now, we've got business to attend to!
(As the chaos erupts around the, Spider-Man, Spyro, and Cynder start fighting off literally every prisoner on Ryker's Island while fighting their way into the prison, taking out every inmate they can along the way, until a radio frequency comes over theirs)
Sergeant Hanson: This is Sergeant Hanson, is there anybody on this frequency.
Yuri: (Over the radio) Captain Watanabe. What is your location?
Sergeant Hanson: Electrical access, rooftop near cellblock D, trying to restore power.
Yuri: (Over the radio) I have no idea! First the power went out, then everything went to hell!
Spyro: This is Spyro, sit tight, I'm on my way!
(Wasting no time, Spyro flies over to the trapped officer's location and starts fighting off the prisoners on his own. After a few moments, he's got everybody down and rips off the security door to let the trapped officer out.)
Warden: (Over the radio) Where is everybody? They're attacking my car!
(And sure enough, there's a police car wrecked against a wall being beaten on by the inmates.)
Cynder: Spyro, sit tight and try to restore power, I'll help the Warden out. (To Spider-Man) Think you can clear the yard yourself?
(Spider-Man just nods in response as Cynder rushes over towards the warden's cruiser, dashing through her shadow into the fray. She may be outnumbered, but Cynder is a crafty fighter and before long has them all down. But just while everybody else is distracted, Yuri comes back up on the radio just as Spider-Man clears the yard)
Yuri: They're stealing a chopper!
Spider-Man: I'm on it!
(Wasting no time, Spider-Man slings his webbing onto the chopper, and attempts to pull it out of the sky, and manages to get it mounted to a cruiser before slinging his way up there, dodging rocket fire and taking out the inmates attempting to steal the thing. Once all of them are down, everybody rejoins in the yard looking out at The Raft while Yuri flies overhead)
Yuri: Looks like things are finally somewhat under control here.
(But of course, just when Yuri says that, a massive electrical explosion rocks The Raft, blacking it out)
Spyro: I thought The Raft was secure!
Yuri: It was. Let's go.
(Wasting no time, the trio springs into action again.)
Yuri: Maybe it's not as bad as it looks?
Cynder: It's The Raft! That's literally where all the supervillains we've put away are!
Spider-Man: I love the optimism, Yuri. But in our experience, when it looks bad, it's actually much, much worse.
(As as the helicopter flies over towards The Raft, still arcing with electricity, our scene ends for today.)
And that looks like a good place to leave off for now. So, the second act has begun in quite a dangerous way. And as if having to subdue literally everybody locked up in Ryker's Island wasn't bad enough, somebody's just hit The Raft too. This isn't going to be good. But how bad could it actually be? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
