Chapter 2: Getting to Know Each Other
Though Nadia still missed her life in Corellia and family members, things started to become much better for her after she met Ahsoka.
It's true that they were in different clans, but the two girls's relationship had become one of strong friendship.
After a couple of days, Ahsoka announced that they were best friends and Nadia agreed, pleased to have close companionship so soon at her new home.
She and Ahsoka shared the same interests, particularly the dream of becoming Jedi Knights. They also studied together and had conversations between one another.
The only thing that Nadia hadn't told Ahsoka was her real surname…and her past.
Aomori was her mother's surname before marrying her father and the reason she was using her mother's surname was to prevent the media and unwanted attention being set on her. In case, the death of her family report comes to Coruscant.
But someday, Nadia would tell Ahsoka about her past, both the good times and bad ones until she felt doing so that is.
In addition, Master Yoda had been receiving fairly positive reports with the younglings, getting a sense of their different personalities.
Nadia was now sitting down in a room with the rest of the Heliost Clan as they listened to their teacher, Tera Sinube.
"Remember, younglings."Master Sinube instructed. "Meditation is about more than forging a deeper connection to the Force. It is about gaining a deeper understanding of themselves. It is a means of obtaining greater control over our thoughts. Our emotions."
Nadia kept her eyes to continue meditating and to try to connect with the Force.
"Peace. Serenity. Harmony."Master Sinube continued. "We must master ourselves before we can hope to master ourselves."
There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance.
There is is no passion.
There is is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.
That was the Jedi Code that the younglings in the Jedi Temple in Coruscant were taught.
And yet, Nadia was telling herself the opposite.
The Corellian Jedi Code.
In her mind that is.
"Control your Emotions, To find Peace. End Ignorance by seeking Knowledge."Nadia thought in a firm tone."Righteous Passion provides Serenity. Anger leads to Chaos, but True Love is Harmony. There is no Death, there is the Force."
Corellian Jedi were doing it right.
And she was a Corellian Jedi from her heart and not because half her blood were of the Green Jedi.
However, Nadia was aware that there was still some doubt that a few members of the Jedi Council had on her due to her ancestry.
Because from her mother's side, Nadia was related to…Darth Nihilus.
A Dark Lord of the Sith during the era of strife following the Jedi Civil War. His other title was 'Lord of Hunger' since he had the ability to drain Force energy from enemies, victims and even entire planets.
But she wasn't going to let her dark lineage cause an effect on herself and her new life.
Sometime after her lesson ended, Nadia went to pay a visit in the Room of a Thousand Fountains.
The Room of a Thousand Fountains was a large greenhouse located in the First Knowledge Quarter at the base of the Jedi Temple. Containing waterfalls and huge amounts of flora, meditative areas, pottery and stone walkways. In addition, the chamber served as a meditative retreat for the members of the Jedi Order while staying in the Temple.
Nadia's ruby red eyes sparkled in amazement of the remarkable view of the greenhouse.
Suddenly, the raven haired girl then heard someone quietly weeping and saw there was a figure sitting down behind the tree that was near one of the waterfalls.
Nadia slowly walked over to the figure to see who it was.
The figure appeared to be around Ahsoka's and her age. He had brown hair that had a white streak and hazel green eyes. The clothing he wore was grey coloured Jedi clothing with a blue lightsaber attached to a maroon belt and black boots.
"Hi."Nadia greeted kindly. "Are you okay?"
No reply.
"You look so sad."Nadia commented as she offered out her hand. "Is something bothering you? Do you need help?"
Again, no reply.
Nadia frowned.
The boy doesn't seem to be a talking type.
Just as Nadia began lowering her hand in disappointment and turning as if to leave, the boy jumped to his feet and shook her hand.
"Ferus Olin."the boy replied.
Nadia smiled and tightened her grip on his hand.
"Pleasure."Nadia remarked. "I'm Nadia Aomori."
Despite himself, Ferus smiled back.
Nadia and Ferus then sat down talking to each other.
"I don't think it's stupid at all."Nadia replied.
"You don't?"Ferus said.
"It isn't stupid if it's making you upset."Nadia complemented. "Everyone can feel like crying if they're feeling deeply sad."
"Yes, but I'm too old for crying."Ferus stated.
"Who told you such rubbish?"Nadia questioned.
Ferus shrugged and looked down at his feet.
"It's perfectly normal to miss your family."Nadia said sagely.
At this, Ferus looked up and squinted at her.
How did she know?
But then again, maybe it didn't take a genius to figure that out.
"Did you?"Ferus asked. "Miss your family, that is."
Nadia looked away and Ferus felt an uneasy ripple in the Force.
The ripple quickly turned into a crushing wave of sadness and guilt.
Nadia took a deep breath and slowly let it out.
And just like that, the wave of sadness and guilt was gone and replaced with nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
"Of course I did."Nadia admitted, turning to meet Ferus' gaze. "As I said, everyone cries sometimes. I am no exception."
"Yes, but the Jedi aren't supposed to cry."Ferus responded.
"Oh?"Nadia questioned in a smug tone and raised an eyebrow. "And what are the Jedi supposed to do instead?"
Ferus blushed in embarrassment.
"I dunno."Ferus answered, rubbing the back of his neck. "Meditate, I guess?"
Nadia let out a soft chuckle, the Force around her rippling with warmth, as if she were a sun that shed its radiance on him.
"We could try it if you want."Nadia suggested, gesturing at a large rock to the left of a nearby gazebo. "Besides, I'm not very good at meditating. I could use more practice."
Ferus felt his lips stretch into a smile.
"Me too."Ferus agreed.
The duo then settled beside each other, cross-legged and held hands, on the warm rock and closed their eyes.
Ferus tried to isolate his thoughts from all language and social connections, to the edge of a simple unity with the Force—the way Siri Tachi had been teaching him.
Beside him, Nadia didn't seem to be having any trouble meditating at all: he could feel her presence in the Force. Steady, like the rock they sat upon; bright as a supernova; warm as his mother's hugs.
His thoughts kept wandering to his deceased loved ones and Ferus kept getting distracted by the chirping of the birds and the buzzing of the insects in the Room of a Thousand Fountains.
"Or we could simply talk about whatever is bothering you."Nadia suggested. "If you wanted to. Master Sinube says talking can help."
A small smile was on her lips as she turned to face him.
"Your thoughts are rather loud and distracting, you know."Nadia declared.
She responded kindly with a hint of humour and Ferus appreciated her tone.
But still, he couldn't help but feel guilty.
"Sorry."Ferus apologised.
His gaze cast down as he fidgeted with the hem of his tunic.
Nadia shook her head, making her little black curls bounce.
"No need to apologise."Nadia assured.
Nadia changed position to fully face him and looked at him expectantly.
Ferus felt her hoping he would talk, and he did.
"Promise me you won't laugh, and you won't tell anyone."Ferus begged.
Instead of answering him, Nadia held out her pinky.
Ferus stared at it—and her—in confusion.
"On my planet, you make a pinky promise to show that you're telling the truth and that you will do exactly what you said you would do."Nadia explained. "Please, hold out your pinky, and we will shake on it."
Bewildered, Ferus did as she asked.
Nadia wrapped her pinky around his and shook.
"I promise I won't laugh, and I won't tell anyone."Nadia vowed solemnly.
Ferus believed her.
A pinky promise seemed more serious than a regular one, and he quite liked it.
He began telling her about his birth parents and how much he felt lost without them.
How stupid he felt for doing so, because he was supposed to be a good Jedi.
He wasn't supposed to miss his parents and couldn't tell anyone about it.
Not even Master Siri Tachi.
He firmly believed his Master would be disappointed if he found out.
Ferus then took out a device that he kept hidden in the pocket of his trousers that showed him with his parents as an infant.
The man in his mid 30s had dark caramel blonde hair and purple eyes. He wore an indigo vest with white long sleeves and long black boots.
The woman looked in her late 20s and was rather beautiful with long curly dark brown hair and hazel green eyes. She wore a dark pink dress with long sleeves that had a large sky blue waist ribbon around her waist and matching dark pink flats.
"Their names were Istvan and Vanessa Olin."Ferus exclaimed. "My father was an engineer and my mother was a nurse. I was living happily with them in Naboo but when the Invasion of Naboo happened and they got killed."
Ferus was silent for a moment before he took a deep breath to speak again.
"I was barley four years old that time."Ferus stated. "But then the Naberrie family, who were friends of my family took me in and I became their adopted son."
"They sound like good people."Nadia assumed.
"They are and their two daughters treat me like I was their biological younger brother. Even when I showed signs of being Force sensitive, they still accepted me and supported my idea of becoming a Jedi."Ferus exclaimed with a small smile. "But I still miss the parents that brought me in this world."
"Missing your parents doesn't make you a bad Jedi."Nadia declared. "Jedi miss people all the time."
Ferus was skeptical.
The Jedi that he met didn't seem to miss anyone.
But then again, maybe they were all just good at hiding it.
Grown-ups especially so.
"And I'm sure Master Tachi won't be disappointed if you tell her."Nadia assured.
"You really think so?"Ferus asked.
"She might already know."Nadia assumed with a small shrug. "Our Masters somehow always know things about us."
A blue butterfly landed on her shoulder, and Nadia carefully picked it up with her index finger.
"You could also talk to me, if you want."Nadia exclaimed, her eyes trained on the butterfly."Master Sinube says I'm a good listener."
The butterfly took flight, and they watched as it made its way towards a large yellow flower.
Ferus turned to Nadia and smiled.
"My mum used to love telling me stories."Ferus stated. "Would you like to hear one?"
Nadia smiled back. "I'd love to."
"Dia!"
Ferus and Nadia turned around just in time to see Ahsoka rushing towards them.
"Hi, Soka."Nadia greeted. "What's up?"
"An emergency. Master Yoda said he's going to ask questions for every youngling on Lightsaber Construction and Philosophy within a week."Ahsoka exclaimed while holding a datapad. "But there are some questions that I need help on understanding. Can you help me?"
"You know I can help you."Nadia said with a nod. "What are best friends for?"
Ahsoka grinned. "Thanks."
Ferus cleared his throat, earning the two girls' attention.
"Oh, hi, Ferus."Ahsoka greeted.
"Hey, Ahsoka."Nadia responded causing Ahsoka to look at her. "Can our study session can include Ferus as well? I bet he'll need help to pass this test as well."
"No, that would't be-"Ferus started.
"That's no problem."Ahsoka remarked. "The more help we get, the more likely we pass to the next level."
Nadia looked at Ferus.
"What do you say, Ferus?"Nadia asked.
"I may know some stuff in using a lightsaber, but I don't mind some help."Ferus commented. "I'm in."
Ahsoka and Nadia let out small squeals in delight before heading out with Ferus to go study in the Jedi Archives for their upcoming test.
In the Room of the Jedi Council…
Master Tera Sinube was discussing Nadia's efforts in his class with Master Yoda and other members of the Jedi Council.
"I have to say Nadia has become one of my finest students."Master Sinube declared. "She is becoming more open to the other younglings in her clan. But mostly is the one you've brought to the Jedi Temple, Master Plo."
"Yes."Plo Koon agreed with a nod."Little Soka certainly has a fiery attitude, but she is playful, and has enjoyed her time here more ever since she chose to met Young Dia."
"Then I guess this drops suspicion of Nadia having knowledge of the ways of the Sith?"Shaak Ti assumed.
"I'm not convinced."Mace Windu declared.
"Why do you object, Mace?"Depa Billaba asked.
"You know what they say about Darth Nihilus."Mace Windu said."He cares nothing for the Sith or its teachings or the Jedi. And when the Jedi are dead, he would've feed on the galaxy, the Republic, and eventually, consume the Sith as well. Nadia doesn't seem bothered by his prophecy."
"Nadia's just a child."Ki-Adi-Mundi replied."So, it's that she's most definitely hiding her fear and hate of being related to the Lord of Hunger."
"Even though Nadia is related to be an ancient Sith Lord, she shouldn't really judged by it."Master Sinube exclaimed."She has shown far more interests in becoming a Jedi and become a hero rather than a monster like her evil ancestor."
Master Yoda closed his eyes for a moment before responding.
"Are strong within the Force, young Aomori's powers are."Master Yoda declared."And her future is unclear, too old she is. But with guidance from the Jedi, someday, a trusted ally and Jedi Knight she will be."
Somewhere within Coruscant…
Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, alias the Phantom Menace Sith Lord Darth Sidious, was in his office in the Republic's Senate building and was looking through the secret files of the recent younglings that were brought into the Jedi Temple to find one worthy of being his second appearance and assassin.
None of them seem to catch his attention.
Except one.
And that one was Nadia Aomori.
She was a young girl from Corellia being trained in the ways of the Jedi, but was surprisingly related to one of the most powerful Sith Lords who ever lived.
Darth Nihilus.
The Sith Lord frightenedly known for being extremely power, and could sense planets that were strong in the Force as well as different Force users. When he would find a planet strong in the Force, he would cleanse it entirely and kill everyone and everything touched by that force—quite brutal.
A dark smirk grew on the Phantom Menace's face.
He seemed to have found someone else he can use besides the Chosen One Anakin Skywalker.
Nadia is someone to get close to and try to manipulate to achieve his goals which were to cause the fall of the Republic and the Jedi and the return of the Sith and their evil Empire.
But if she and Skywalker proved difficult to turn, then he'd go with his Plan B and have the cloners on Kamino make an exact duplicate of them, who were monsters for him to control.
Next we heading to the Clone Wars movie, where Ahsoka and Nadia become the padawans of Anakin and Nadia. See you all in the next chapter!
