Glinda is at the gym. She rented her own space so she can stay in shape. She hits the punching bag to vent her frustrations.
That stupid Goat almost betrayed her. She thinks her alias is too similar to her real name. What should she do if someone finds out? During history class, that stupid goat kept calling her Glinda instead of Galinda. Luckily, Elphaba unknowingly saved her by changing the subject. She also now feels guilty for probably helping Elphaba get into trouble with her sister.
When Glinda feels better again and is convinced that she has reacted more to emotion than to rationality, she stops hitting the punching bag. She knows her new name is harder for the Animals to pronounce, so the Goat doesn't know what her real name is. She quickly washes again and styles her hair. She knows she is missing a class now, but this was more important and the students will understand why she had to leave. She has to keep up her act as a popular dumb blonde, the fellow students will give her the information she needs. This is the tactic her parents tell her to use.
Glinda rushes to the cafeteria so she can get there in time to talk to the other students. On the way she sees Elphaba approaching her in anger. She walks slower and looks around, hoping that other people will see this scene so she can use another excuse. Anything is better as a topic of conversation than her mysterious disappearance after history class.
"How dare you." Elphaba says when she is close enough. ''How dare you say that I did something to you in history class. It used to be the other way around."
Glinda is not impressed with Elphaba. "You spoke to me, that's traumatizing enough."
Elphaba growls in frustration. "You are the most spoiled, unbelievable, self-centred person I have ever seen. You're the one who spoke to me in our room last night. Do you want me to say that to everyone?'' she asks defiantly.
They both know it's a useless threat.
Glinda crosses her arms. "What's your point now?" Glinda looks around and sees that there is a group of students close enough to hear them. "Green freak," she quickly adds.
Elphaba follows Glinda's gaze and draws the same conclusion as Galinda. She starts laughing falsely. ''Of course it's all about popularity for you. Now that everyone can hear you, I'm a green freak. You know Galinda, you're just a pathetic person. Later no one will care about you anymore, they only care about your wealth. Do whatever you want, but you will never lie to my sister again, you hear that, you stay away from Nessa."
Elphaba is already walking away, without waiting for an answer from Glinda. She hopes she did the right things to protect Nessa. She caught Nessa's glare all through politics class. She got a whole lecture from Nessa about how she was disrespectful to Galinda. How dare Galinda tell such lies to her sister. Thinking back to the conversation with Nessa, Elphaba becomes furious again. Elphaba angrily slams the door. She punches the air with her fists. Defeated, she falls on her bed. She feels that her magic is emerging again, the last thing she wants is to have another outburst. Elphaba feels hopeless. It has never happened so quickly. People have always been afraid of her skin and her outbursts of anger. But within a day her sister almost turns against her. Elphaba feels her getting angry again. All thanks to Galinda. she thinks, defeated. She now has to choose between her hatred for Galinda or her love for her sister, because it can't be both. Elphaba sighs deeply. She doesn't know if she did the right thing in telling Galinda the truth. As most things go in her life, this will probably turn out badly for her. Maybe I should just stop doing the right thing. Elphaba thinks, defeated.
Just as quickly as those thoughts arise, another thoughts comes that she shouldn't give up and shouldn't act so pathetically in self-pity. She did the right thing to help Galinda.

Glinda breathes a sigh of relief as Elphaba walks away. She is happy that she can move on. A group of students immediately come up to her and say how unreasonable Elphaba was. Although Elphaba is of course right. Glinda has to admit that Elphaba has courage and stands up for what is right. These are qualities that she appreciates about the green girl. She immediately walks to Pfannee and ShenShen's table. The girls are busy talking. They look worriedly at Glinda who tries to look very sad. The students around her tell the story of what happened just outside the canteen.
"That's it," Pfannee says as she hits the table. "We have to make sure that green monster is expelled from school."
"That's never going to happen," Glinda says shocked. She definitely doesn't want Elphaba to be expelled "Madame Morrible wants her for her class." She knows Elphaba is right about her behavior. It means she can act it well. Maybe a little too good, that she hurts Elphaba so much. But she pushes those feelings aside because of her mission.
Pfannee rubs her chin. "We have to make a plan," she says thoughtfully as she rounds the canteen.
ShenShen nudges her. "You had a plan."
Pfannee grins. "Ooh yes." Everyone leans forward. Pfannee continues to grin. "I was thinking." she talks very slowly to build up the tension. ''How can we hurt the green freak the most. Now she has little interest and no life. Nobody cares about her.'' Everyone nods. "But she does care about two things and maybe three things," she says mysteriously.
Glinda has an idea where Pfannee wants to go. Maybe she can take advantage of it and gain Nessa's trust.
''She likes to read, which no one understands,''
ShenShen gasps. "Do you want to destroy the library?"
Glinda rolls her eyes.
''No, because she also loves Nessa and that stupid Goat. To get the green Freak, we might have to do something with Nessa and the Goat."
''Maybe we should make sure that Nessa never talks to the monster again.'' Glinda says doubtfully, who doesn't want any lame jokes to be played on Nessa. She knows that they will enrage Elphaba instead of hurting her.
Everyone starts nodding. Pfannee beams with pride that everyone likes her plan.
''We will do the right thing, to save Nessarose from her demonic sister.'' says someone from the group.
Glinda nods. Maybe she can gain some information about Elphaba through Nessa.
''The monster was just now, completely screaming, that I'm turning her sister against her. So, it indeed strikes a chord. I suggest we all go talk to Nessa sometime. We tell the truth about Elphaba. That way maybe that stupid Goat won't want anything to do with Elphaba anymore."
Everyone nods.
They slowly clear away their plates and glasses, to return to the other lessons. Glinda is taken away by Pfannee and ShenShen. "What are we going to do?" Glinda asks confused.
''Well, we know you are looking for a handsome boy. YOU are a prefect, and you deserve someone as perfect as you. So, we have a number of candidates."
Glinda nods and smiles. "Girls you are really good."
ShenShen giggles with joy. I suggest we go into town now and get ready for tonight."
Pfannee and Glinda nod. The rest of the day Glinda is in the salon or in a store looking for a new dress. In the evening, she flirts with different boys. She talks to girls she hasn't seen yet on campus. When she gets back, her roommate is already sleeping. Glinda is relieved. It's going to be a long few weeks if I have to keep this up. She thinks tiredly. Over the next few days, she avoids Elphaba as much as Elphaba avoids her. Every time they see each other, Glinda makes nasty comments, and her group always laughs about it. She regularly involves Nessa, but also notices that Nessa leaves as soon as Elphaba is mentioned.
"Is Elphaba really as wicked as everyone says?" Nessa asks shyly as she walks to another classroom with Galinda one day.
Glinda looks at Nessa in surprise.
Nessa blushes. ''I mean you are the direct source. I don't know if the stories are true. Elphaba has done terrible things, but the way the stories go, I can't imagine it. She is and will always be my sister. I will always want to do the right thing for her."
Glinda sees an entrance to question Nessa. "What was she like as a child?"
Nessa raises her eyebrow. She remains silent for a moment. Glinda walks extra slowly, so they have more time. ''I uhm, I never thought about it. Elphaba was always wild, but also calm. Don't know. She was weird."
Glinda thinks for a moment what the best tactic is to continue the conversation, it was not the answer she had hoped for. "Did she have many friends?"
Nessa laughs, but stops when she sees Galinda's serious face. ''No, she has no patience for that. She always scares everyone with her outbursts."
''And you?''
"I was homeschooled, my father wanted to protect me from all the diseases at school and the cruel children."
Glinda looks skeptical. "Why not for Elphaba."
"Elphaba had to learn to behave in social settings."
"Do you think it was good?"
Nessa shrugs. "It was my father's choice."
Glinda bites her lip. "You said Elphaba used to do terrible things, what kind of things?"
''Just terrible things. She had these magical outbursts over nothing. Later she always says it happened to protect herself or me, but I don't know."
Glinda can believe it, since she saw it on the first day.
"So it's true that she still does those horrible things?" Nessa asks as they enter the classroom.
Glinda bites her lip, this is the chance to make Pfannee's plan work, but she doesn't want to carry it out at all. It's a terrible plan. She has no deep hatred for Elphaba, which she makes everyone believe. ''No, she is blunt, unfriendly and ill-mannered. But she has no magical outbursts. She needs someone to show her the right direction. I think it should be you."
Nessa beams. "Do you really think so?"
Glinda nods.
''I had almost given up hope. But you're right.''
It remains quiet. They stand in the middle of the room and slowly the other students enter.
''If I didn't know any better, I'd almost think you were being nice about my sister. I knew that Elphaba's stories are way too exaggerated. I'm going to tell her to be nice to you. I'm going to teach her the lesson, it's the least I can do."
Glinda smiles. "You are a good sister and a better person."
Glinda is called by other students. She wishes Nessa a nice day and sits in the back of the room. Nessa obediently sits at the front of the class so she can pay better attention.
Glinda feels a lot better after the conversation. She knows she did the right thing for Elphaba.
Although the mission goes well, Glinda takes longer than expected to get into Madame Morrible's class. She's still not in it, much to her frustration. She focuses on what she can do. Her parents are satisfied with the reports she regularly passes on.
She tells her parents that she is concerned about Elphaba's well-being, but her parents remain firm in their own rule.
"But there are no students who are suspicious," Glinda says, almost desperately. "If it's not a student, then it must be a teacher or something else."
She hears her parents hesitating on the other end of the line. Ultimately, her parents will investigate the teachers more closely, because it was too dangerous for Glinda for now.

Glinda is at their table, which is getting bigger, because everyone wants to hear the latest gossip. As long as everyone can talk about Elphaba, they are safe from the bullying.
"I can't believe Nessa is still sitting with her sister," ShenShen whispers as she takes a bite of her bread.
Glinda shrugs. ''Maybe she needs the monster for her homework. She's pretty smart." Although Glinda is very proud that Nessa is staying with her sister.
Pfannee looks at her with an open mouth. "Are you nice to her?"
Glinda sighs. She knows that her population is already a lot safer than a few weeks ago, so sometimes she says something nice about Elphaba, because she means it too. Even in her room, she sometimes tries to start a conversation, although Elphaba is not often grateful for this.
''No, but it is true. She is useful for copying the homework from all classes." She's starting to get tired of always belittling Elphaba. She becomes restless and wants to do something.
The others nod.
"You're really smart and good, Galinda." ShenShen says.
Glinda rolls her eyes. She can do the homework herself, it's not that difficult. She must continue to play her role. She also has to admit that she quite enjoys student life. She enjoys the nights out and the knowledge she learns. A mission is much better than playing the woman behind the cameras.
''Galinda, do you already have someone in mind?"
Glinda sighs. ''No, everyone I talk to is very nice, but not perfect, you know. I also don't want to bring anyone into contact with her."
Oooh, Galinda you are so noble.'' says someone from the group.
Glinda smiles. "But tell me, do you know a nice boy?"
''I heard there's a new student coming." Pfannee says.
A new student? Glinda thinks hopefully. Maybe that's the person who makes Elphaba become Wicked. She needs to get more information and quickly. The mission must be completed successfully. Not just for herself. If the Wizard and her parents are happy, that means more missions. But she also wants the mission to be completed properly for Elphaba. She often feels guilty about how she treats Elphaba. She gets a stronger urge to protect Elphaba. She doesn't know how much longer she can control that urge. She can't explain her urge either. She doesn't know what it's like to have real friends, but Glinda can slowly imagine it. She knows she shouldn't be friends with Elphaba.
"Who told you that?" ShenShen asks, surprised.
Pfannee nods towards Nessarose. " I had spoken to her recently. She's so desperate. I would be too with a frog as a sister and a fish as a roommate."
Glinda and ShenShen giggle.
"But tell us about the new student?" ShenShen asks with interest. Glinda wanted to ask too, before the conversation went in a completely different direction. Luckily, ShenShen beat her to it.
Pfannee shrugs. "Then the green freak showed up, and I'm definitely not associating with her. I think twice about who is with me. Anyway, Nessarose said Madame Morrible was on the phone for a long time, and someone new is coming."
"It's so unfair that the teachers get a phone, and we don't. What kind of old-fashioned school is this? I mean, a phone is just for calling home or chatting with friends," ShenShen complains. "What are we supposed to do without a phone? What more is there to do in life?"
"Maybe do our homework and study for tests without distractions," Glinda says dryly.
The girls look at her in shock. Glinda recognizes her mistake and starts laughing loudly. "At least that's what the teachers and the nerds would say."
The girls laugh along. "You're so funny, Galinda. How do you come up with this stuff?"
Glinda laughs politely.
"In any case, I'm going to talk to Nessarose," says Glinda as she stands up.
"Why?" ShenShen asks, surprised.
''Two reasons,'' Glinda says very sweetly. ''It's my turn to talk to her again. I would like to say something about what her sister does."
The girls immediately grin. ''It remains a miracle that she is still here. I had already left.'' says Pfannee.
"And the second reason is a good preparation means more chance at a relationship. It might be a prince or a frog. I know who my friends will be," says Glinda with a wink. The girls giggle again. Glinda walks away relieved. She doesn't know how long she can keep acting foolishly with these people.
She throws away her trash and thinks about her next move. Her father taught her to think carefully about her steps. "Sometimes it's wise to wait first and then act. Clues often come by themselves because others are in a hurry; you have to be smarter," her father always said. Glinda leaves the cafeteria and heads to her class; she can spend the rest of the day thinking about the conversation with Nessa. She walks away from the cafeteria without talking to Nessa.
In any case, she has no idea who can turn Elphaba to the wicked side; the girl seems too stubborn to be swayed so easily.
