"Wow," Hungary breathed. "It's so beautiful here."
"I thought you'd like it," Netherlands said.
He had been stressing about the ideal date for Hungary while on holiday, and during the last meeting when he'd seen her flower, he vaguely remembered something about South Africa. He tracked his former colony down and asked him about specific flower destinations in his country, trying to remember what South Africa had told him about the subject so many years ago. The younger nation informed him about the Namaqualand flowers, which only bloomed for a short period a specific part of the year. And when he informed Netherlands that it was almost time, Netherlands made his choice.
And looking at Hungary's face, he knew that it was the right choice. Hungary grinned at him, before pulling him closer.
At first, they tried to take photos of the flower field, but in the end, they started picking flowers for each other. He wasn't entirely sure if they were allowed to do that, but he couldn't see any of the other tourists reacting as though what they did was strange. And no one stopped them.
Netherlands would have loved to just lie down and bask in the field, but the fact that it was a tourist destination stopped him.
"Here you go," Hungary said as she handed him a bracelet of flowers. He gave her one as well. "I'm getting hungry. Do you want to get lunch?"
Netherlands nodded, before he and Hungary walked off, arm in arm.
"Do you want to go visit your old colony?" Hungary asked. "Do you think he'd be happy to see us?"
"I saw his face when he realised that two Europeans will be coming to his country," Netherlands said. "I think he will be."
The prompt is: 'Person A and B go to a field of flowers to take photos but end up laying in the field together and picking beautiful flowers for each other.'
The first thing that popped into my mind was Namaqualand, which only blooms for a short time in spring. I wanted a place like that in the story, and when looking for a pairing for this prompt, as soon as I saw Netherlands, I decided I might as well make it the actual Namaqualand.
A canon South Africa made a small cameo in the manga, but only his head was seen. As far as I know, he hasn't made any other official appearances.
The last paragraph is a reference to the tourism industry, and how European tourists are considered to be a favourite. There was actually a chapter in the manga where Seychelles suggested for France and Germany to go holiday in her country, and she was very transparent about European money boosting her economy.
