Hyacinth woke up before Harry, but she did not get up. She just laid there, thinking.
Hyacinth thought about how she was surprised that she'd never had an explosion of magic before, because it seemed like she had often gone over a week between letting burst of magic out, before Petunia found out that she was a witch. She wondered if it was because she had spent so much time holding it in not very long ago, or if it was because she was so emotionally damaged now.
Her thoughts were interrupted when a boy walked by. He stopped, and stared. He was looking directly at Harry. "Woah, is that a lightning bolt scar?" he asked.
"No," the woman Hyacinth had met last night said, approaching them.
The boy stepped closer to Harry and Hyacinth.
Hyacinth sat up, getting more and more tense.
"It is Harry Potter!" he exclaimed.
Harry, who was now awake, sat up.
Hyacinth quickly wrapped her arm, protectively, around Harry.
The woman sighed. "Please don't tell anyone."
The boy pointed to Hyacinth. "Who is she?" he asked.
"Harry's aunt. Now go away. They don't want this kind of attention."
"Thank you," Hyacinth said, after the boy left.
Hyacinth was glad when a curtain was hung up, around her and Harry's bed, because she really didn't want that kind of attention. Yet, she was also sad because she wanted to explore the castle, and she figured that hiding from the students meant that that was not going to happen.
She was also glad that she and Harry were each given a tray of food, on the bed, so Harry was able to reach his food. She had hated how Petunia had forbidden her and Harry from eating anywhere but at the table.
Harry looked back and forth, from his food to Hyacinth, clearly not sure what to do.
Hyacinth pointed her figures toward a spoon. Instead of trying to hold her magic in, she intentionally tried to make the fork fly into her hand. It did, and she smiled. She was going to try to use a little magic every day, in hopes that she'd never have an explosion again.
Hyacinth placed the spoon into Harry's hands. She hoped he would know how to use it. Dudley had been able to use his own since he was younger than Harry was when he was orphaned.
Harry moved the spoon around, in seemingly random directions, until Hyacinth took his hand and guided it to the food. He was able to get food on his spoon, and then lift the spoon up, but he could not find his mouth.
Hyacinth took his hand again, this time guiding it to his mouth.
They took turns taking bites of their food. Harry seemed to get more used to it, but he spilled a few times.
Dumbledore opened the curtain, and came in with Remus Lupin. "This is Remus Lupin, James and Lily's friend, and your new unofficial big brother," he said.
Hyacinth was confused. Remus was not her brother. She didn't have a brother, and she did not think she wanted any. She had two brother-in-laws, and neither of then had ever seemed to like her.
"I asked a real estate agent, and he said that you three could live on one of his unsold properties, and then just move to another one if it sells," Dumbledore said. "I think I'll put you three on a rural property, where you'll run into fewer people, because Harry would probably be better off if he didn't know he was famous. I think it's alright to put you three next to a wizarding family, who should be used to him by the time he's old enough to be affected by his fame, if you three can stay that long."
Hyacinth watched Remus playing peek-a-boo, with Harry. At first she felt jealous, but then she realized that she had no right to be jealous. She was not Lily or James, although she knew that Lily and James would just be happy that Harry had a Daddy now. At least, she thought that's what they would think, but she did not really know. She had believed Petunia when she said that Lily hated her, but she didn't believe that anymore, as now it just seemed absurd and foolish that she had believed that Lily would hate her for looking after Harry.
Hyacinth was very grateful to Remus, but she was also scared. She didn't want to get too close to her new guardian. Not after Petunia.
Mrs. Weasley, the neighbor woman, and her son came over. She said she had other sons, but this one was Ron, and Ron was the one who was the same age as Harry.
Hyacinth sat with the adults, watching Harry and Ron play with each other, on the floor. When Mrs. Weasley tried to talk to her, she gave short answers, like she did with Remus. Eventually she could not hear Mrs. Weasley anymore, as she was so focused on Harry.
Hyacinth was happy that Harry had a friend, but she was also a little jealous of Ron. Fortunately, that feeling did not last very long. She knew that Harry should be allowed to have a friend, and she knew that she shouldn't be so stand-offish.
Hyacinth woke up, with a start. She breathed heavily, as Harry awoke and tried to comfort her.
She heard what sounded like someone getting up and walking around. Remus, the only other someone in the house, opened the door. He walked in, holding his lit up wand. "Are you alright?" he asked.
She nodded, but there were tears in her eyes.
"Did you have a nightmare?"
She nodded.
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
She shook her head.
"Would you like me to leave?"
She shook her head, and then paused. "I'm sorry I'm so unfriendly."
"It's alright. I kind of expected that." He paused, and then crouched down beside the bed. "I'm not going to suddenly hate you, one day. And, I can't promise I won't die, but it's highly unlikely. Well I will die someday, but probably not for many years." He paused again. "You can have the courage to move on and make new relationships, Hyacinth" he said. "After all, Gryffindor's in your blood."
"It is?"
"Well your sister was a Gryffindor."
"I hated it when Lily hugged me, but I liked it when Petunia hugged me. That must have made Lily feel awful. I wish we had been closer."
"You and Lily are closer now, because of your relationship with Harry."
"Harry wakes up, when I have a nightmare, and then comforts me. He's too young to be doing that."
"There is a charm I can cast on him, which will dull his senses for several hours, so hopefully he'll be able to sleep through you having a nightmare. But first I'd like to point out that he's already fallen back to sleep."
