"Are you sure I won't hurt her?"

Palms sweat.

Heart gallops.

"Of course not," Angela, the NICU nurse, says. "I'd even suggest skin-to-skin after you get comfortable holding her."

"What's that?" I quirk a brow as she carries my daughter to me.

"Just what it sounds like," she says softly. "Preemies seem to benefit greatly from it."

"Whatever she needs."

"She's wide awake." She settles Masie in my arms. "Such a gorgeous girl."

I don't reply because I'm lost.

A tiny wide-eyed human is in my arms.

My world slips off its axis.

For the second time in two days.


I have plenty chapters, so no reason to skip any days.
