Chapter 1 At the beginning...
Raven;
The words in front of Raven wouldn't make sense, she had been trying for an hour to get them to make sense, but alas they remained a mystery and she would have to keep trying to get the right answer. Just when she thought she couldn't get more frustrated, the doorbell smashed her thoughts, it's musical melody wiping all thoughts from her skull, because she knew only one person rang the doorbell these days and that was her Father, Shawn.
Raven didn't bother getting up from her spot at the table with her laptop, she merely called out that the door was open, as it usually was, but Shawn always preferred to knock, perhaps given the few times he didn't and he walked in on something he didn't want to be apart of, now it was always about announcing that he was there.
When Shawn came in, he wasn't shocked that Raven was at the table doing work, if it wasn't work it was looking after her sisters, Raven didn't seem to have much of a private life, he was thankful in a way, he would never have to worry about being a pre-mature grandfather, his three girls, Raven, her twin Iziah and younger sister Jamie had no interest in what he called typical women things. They were happier how they were.
Raven shut her laptop and looked at her Father, there was still the trademark HBK grin but his face had aged since the last time he had visited. Or maybe she was wrong, it was known to happen.
"So Dad, what brings you to my door?" Raven asked stretching back in her chair, perhaps a break from work would re-boot her frazzled mind.
As he always did, Shawn didn't broach the subject of what he wanted straight away, he liked to drag things out, to him it was the only way he could get any information about their lives.
"How's work Rae?"
"Work is annoyin the hell out of me, Iziah finally has three days off so she's in her room gettin drunk and Jamie is at work until half five. Anythin else Dad?"
"Anyone would think that sharing info with me is really taboo" Shawn laughed, trust Raven to go straight for the end game instead of just sharing some small talk.
Raven just looked at him, her silver orbs turning a slight misty gray, she was inching to get back to work and as much as she loved her Father, work always came first, afterall they had waited long enough.
Shawn let out a breath and decided to just get on with it, "Raven I need your help with something, see a friend of mine is in...well it's personal but the bottom line is he needs a room, I take it your still taking in wrestlers?"
"You make it sound like they are puppies waitin to get adopted, but yes I'm still lettin the rooms out in exchange for candy"
"Well he needs the room for an extended period of time Raven, if your willin to have another wrestler stay"
"Depends on who it is, cause if it's Ric Flair I will never forgive you"
Shawn couldn't help but laugh, he knew he shouldn't but in all fairness he did warn Ric to not annoy her, Raven finally had to shut the man up with a swift fist to the balls. The odd thing was Ric liked it and asked for her number, Shawn figured there and then that keeping the two apart would be a better option for everybody involved.
"He still wants your number you know"
"Fantastic" Raven said dryly, she had hoped that the story would be forgotten but she knew better deep down, this family didn't let anything go. She was still hearing about the time she vomited on the cat. She was three.
"So can he have the room Raven?"
"I'm still waitin to know who it is Dad"
"Randy Orton"
Raven just looked at him, her eyes blinking slowly before expanding wide and making explosion noise, it was her mind-boggled face.
"Seriously, of all the people you could have said, you came out with that. Seriously, thats mind boggling"
"Can Randy have the room or not Raven?"
"And you have warned him about Jamie?" "Yes, he knows all about her brain injury and the other issues that go with it"
"And Iziah?" "I've told him to just avoid her like the plague" "Thanks oldman!"
Shawn looked at the basement door, it remained shut but clearly Iziah was listening to their shared words. "And before you say it Raven, I have told him nothing of you except your a bit...strange at the best of times"
Raven thought about it for a moment, absent-mindly playing with her black and silver strands that trailed over her shoulder.
"All right he can have the room but he is aware that he has to buy me candy"
"Yeah he asked about that, when I said actual candy he looked at me like I was insane"
"Ha! Now you know how it feels"
"So Randy will be here about half four to have a look at the room and you can meet him and what not"
"All right, well I'll be here all day, who knows maybe by then I'll be ready for a distraction"
When Raven turned the laptop back on he knew the conversation was over, which was fine with him, he knew the work she did and he wasn't going to be the one to interfere. He got up off his chair and kissed her temple goodbye as he always did. Shawn had no issue with Randy staying with his daughters, they had a good system going, Raven and Iziah looked after each other and together they looked after Jamie.
He could only hope that Randy listened to him and kept his distance from them, but knowing what he did about Randy, one of them was bound to spark his attention. He could only hope it was Iziah because he knew that would never happen. He had a better chance at sprouting wings and flying down the hill where there giant house lay. He had a sneaky feeling that Randy wouldn't last long with them anyway, Iziah was very good at driving people away from them.
