So it's been a while since i've wrote anything. I used to have an account with a couple stories on but alas, life took over and my ADHD brain doesn't know the password to it and I also don't have access to that email address anymore... oops!
I would like to pre-apologise for any spelling mistakes or mistakes in general, during any of this. I'm a pretty quick typer but I suck at proof reading.
I'm not 100% sure what or where this story will even go.. and unfortunately I cant promise my brain wont get bored and give up on it either.
I've thought of a few ideas, even thinking maybe a story of the past few years of my life.. meeting the love of my life and getting my heart broken.. but then I came to the conclusion that no one wants to hear the sadness I call my life *insert laughing emoji*
Anyway.. I hope you guys enjoy whatever comes out of my brain and please do not hesitate to comment, good or bad, write what is on your mind, critical or not. Everything and everyone is welcome. I hope you enjoy this story and please, be honest.
FYI though, this will be a mix of fiction and non-fiction so don't get mad at me if things are inaccurate.
So here goes...
…...
The loud roar of an engine bellowed through the autumn streets of Hanson. The cool, morning air leaving a trail of exhaust fumes in its wake.
The lone, shadow of a rider swerving, in and out, slaloming around the pot holes that made up the roads these days. Cutting it closer and closer with every amber light the sped through. Not a care in the world on the deserted early morning roads of a small town.
…
Clarke Griffin was sat in her little white car, patiently waiting for the light to change. She had her regular order from Marylous in the cup holder as she bounced along to her morning playlist. Pumping herself up for another day at work.
Just as the song faded out and the next began to play, the light changed and a motorbike zoomed past, drowning out the beginning of the song. Her favourite part. This annoyed Clarke a little but not as much as some idiot on a motorcycle, being reckless on the roads. She'd seen enough wrecks in her time as a paramedic and she dreaded every vehicle related call they were sent on.
Clarke put the car in drive and proceeded on the last stretch to the firehouse.
Firehouse 23 had been Clarkes home for the past 5 years and she absolutely loved it there. Everyone was like family. And Some even were. Like the Blake twins. Octavia and Bellamy Blake. Despite them all being around the same age, Octavia had become more like a little sister to Clarke over the last couple of years and Bellamy was a good friend. Although Clarke always got the feeling he wanted to be more.
The there was Finn Collins. He had grown up with Clarke and never made it a secret how he felt about her. They even went to the high school prom together but Clarke never had feelings for him, like he did her so they decided to just be friends. Much to Finns appointment.
Next came Raven Reyes. Clarkes partner on ambulance 18 and best friend of 4 years.
Then there was Lincoln, Jasper, Monty, John (or Murphy as everyone called him) and Roan.
The final members of firehouse 23 consisted of Chief Indra Porter, Captain Marcus Cane and the late Lieutenant Jake Griffin, Clarkes farther.
Clarke had lost her farther a month ago on a call. A two story house was ablaze when Lt. Jake Griffin had recalled all his team and risked his own life to save a trapped child. On success of finding the child, Jake had chosen to remove his oxygen mask and give it to the little girl. Little did he know at the time, but he was giving his life for hers. It was only later, on returning to the station, that he passed out and was rushed to the hospital, that they found out just how much smoke Jake had inhaled on that call. And unfortunately, there was nothing anyone could do for him and he later passed away that same day. The whole situation caused a rift between Clarke and her mother, Abby. Who partially blamed Clarke for not making sure Jake was okay after the incident. But what can you do when a senior member of the team, no matter who they are, brushes you off, saying they are fine and just need some water. Both Clarke and Raven had been kicking themselves for the past month for not pushing to do more that fateful day, instead of taking his word for it.
Clarke soon pulled into her parking spot in front of the firehouse. Climbing out and carefully reaching back in and over her drivers seat, grabbing her coffee and bag. As she closed her door, she heard the all too familiar roar of the bike, that had passed her minutes ago, pulling up behind her car. For a moment, she honestly wandered how she had made it here before this stranger. However upon seeing the box of donuts being pulled from the riders backpack, she soon started to seethe with anger for their recklessness over getting some donuts. Clarke had no idea who this person was or why they were at her firehouse at 630am but she was about to give them a piece of her mind.
As she was about to approach the black leather clad stranger, she heard her Captain call to her across the yard. Captain Indra Porter drew closer before Clarke could do anything. She approached Clarke with a warm good morning, as she did everyday.
"Clarke! Good morning! I hope you off time was good." she commented. "I'm glad I caught you. Both of you actually" she directed towards the dark stranger, who was unbuckling their helmet. She smiled back to Clarke.
"Clarke, I want you to meet someone." she motioned towards the figure. "This is Lt. Lexa Woods" she informed as they removed their helmet. My mouth went dry. For 2 reasons. Firstly, this person was being introduced before shift, indication they were an official replacement for her dad. And second, they were absolutely beautiful. Clarke was bordering on upset that Indra hadn't informed her of this personnel change previous to them showing up for their first shift. But mostly just speechless for the first time in her life. Clarke had never seen someone so beautiful in her life. She had always known she had an interest in women, but never acted on it.
"Lexa, this is Clarke Griffin. Paramedic in Charge *(PIC). Lexa here, will be permanently filling the Lieutenant spot on squad 4 Clarke.". Indra spoke carefully, hoping to not upset Clarke too much. The lieutenant spot had been a sore subject for weeks, with many floaters hoping to fill the spot, but not a single one meshing right with the house. However, when Indra found out her prodigy was searching for a new home, she hadn't thought twice about calling her and offering her the spot. She knew Lexa would be an incredible addition to the house, in more ways than one.
Clarke was yet to say anything. She was just staring at Lexa with a blank face. Her thoughts and emotions whirling inside her head. Lexa having notice a lack of response, decided to make the first move. Stretching her hand out she went to greet Clarke.
"Hi, Lex..." She was soon interrupted by an mostly rage induced Clarke.
"Are you stupid or just stupid?!" She yelled, anger taking over from their past 'interaction' "Riding that fast and swerving all over the place! You could have hurt someone or even killed someone! I would have thought a firefighter, of ALL people would understand the dangers of riding unsafely with all the calls we go out on!" Clarke stormed off towards the firehouse before either Indra or Lexa could respond or comprehend what had fully just occurred.
Lexa looked at a dumbfounds Indra, shrugged, reached her free hand up and rubber the back of her head.
"I.. uh.. I probably deserved that." Lexa sheepishly commented. "I was kinda racing the bike a bit this morning. I thought I'd make the most of the empty streets. Didn't really get that in the city, ya know? I'm sorry though, I'll should go apologise to her. I didn't mean to upset her or anything. Thats the last thing I want on my first day."
Indra smiled and said it might be for the best but that she also had no idea what had gotten into Clarke. She proceeded to say she thought there might be a reaction to Lexa being here, but that wasn't the one she was expecting. Lexa had nodded, knowing exactly what she was referring to, having been informed of everything by Indra before accepting the job. She knew it was going to be a hard transition for the firehouse but nothing she wasn't willing to deal with. She wanted this to work out. The duo made their way into the firehouse with Indra pointing Lexa in the direction of the locker room so she could change.
As Lexa made her way into the locker room, she heard shuffling and someone muttering to themselves. She couldn't make out what they were saying.
As she round the corner, Clarke looked up. This time it was Lexa that looked like a deer caught in headlights. Clarke was standing, mid locker room, wearing her work cargos and black bra. Clarke just stared for a second before she turned to her locker, grabbed her shirt and pulled it over her head. Lexa snapped out of her daze. And just as she was about to apologise to Clarke. Clarke pointed to a locker opposite hers.
"That lockers yours." was all she said. And Lexa nodded her thank you.
She opened the locker and put her bag in it. She turned to Clarke. She needed to apologise.
"Clarke?" She softly spoke. "I just wanted to apologise" she continued to the back of her head. "You were right. I should know better than to ride like that. Theres no real excuse for it and I'm sorry."
"Why WERE you riding like that?" Clarke questioned as she spun on her heel. A little disdain and anger in her voice. Lexa recoiled slightly, but barely enough for Clarke to notice, but she did.
"I.. um... its kinda complicated but I was kinda trying to clear my head a bit. Riding always helps and back in the city, the roads were never that clear so I kinda just got the zoomies I guess." she shrugged. Clarke studied her. Lexa almost felt like she was reading her soul with the way her eyes were scanning her face.
"Clearing your head from what?" Clarke quizzed.
"The last six months, I guess.." Clarke just waited patiently for Lexa to elaborate. "My uh.. long time girlfriend cheated on me. And the my best friend was diagnosed with cancer and very quickly passed. And I sort of broke down a bit. I had to leave the job for a while to clear my head. This is my first day back since everything happened." Lexa explained, not knowing where she got the courage to say all that, especially to this stranger she'd only just met. But something in her screamed that she could trust Clarke. And so she did. She told her everything. Lexa made to leave the locker room, but as she got to the door way, she bowed her head "I'm really am sorry about this morning." she whispered, just loud enough for Clarke to hear before she continued her leave.
