Brooke was in the bathroom touching up her makeup when she came across the speech Lucas wrote for Keith, with Lucas' jacket casually draped on the sink.
As she was about to continue fixing her makeup, her phone interrupted her. She pulled it out of her purse and answered with a simple 'Hi, Dad.'
But what her dad had to say wasn't what she wanted to hear – they were moving to California in a week. Brooke didn't want to leave her friends behind.
'But I don't want to move!' Her dad didn't seem to care and abruptly ended the call, leaving Brooke feeling upset.
Brooke shut her phone with a click and stared at herself in the mirror, thinking, 'What am I gonna do?'
She was trying to hold it together at the wedding, planning to tell anyone who asked that she was just teary-eyed over Keith, when in reality, it was a mix of emotions. After quickly fixing her makeup and putting it back in her purse, the bathroom door opened.
Brooke turned, expecting to see Peyton, but it was Dan instead, who shut the door behind him.
'You look great, Ms. Davis,' Dan said with a smile, making Brooke tense up. 'Mr. Scott, why are you in the ladies' bathroom?' she asked, her voice shaking slightly as she tried to keep her cool.
Dan locked the door behind him and walked over to her, casually mentioning, 'Just checking on my son's date.' He strolled towards Brooke, who had backed up against the sink, and she questioned, 'Couldn't you have checked on me while I was with Lucas, or maybe once I was out of the bathroom?' She managed to maintain a steady tone as she kept her eyes on him approaching.
'I just want to remind you to save me a dance,' Dan smirked, attempting to touch Brooke's cheek, but she swiftly slapped his hand away. 'What are you really up to?' she demanded, uncomfortable with Dan's proximity.
Brooke struggled not to recoil as Dan leaned in closer to her and confronted him, 'Firstly, I don't know what game you're playing with Lucas, but you need to step back! Don't you have a boyfriend?' Dan placed his hand on Brooke's arm, running his thumb up and down her skin.
'We're just friends,' Brooke replied, trying to move away. However, as Dan continued to run his fingers along her arm, she froze, wondering what Dan's intentions were. 'Just friends? Really?' Dan mocked, questioning her words.
Brooke's body started shivering with fear, but she tried to keep calm and gave Dan a glare. 'Yes, we're just friends, even though it's none of your business!' the brunette retorted, wincing as Dan dug his nails into her arm, leaving a few scratch marks.
'I'd watch that tone, young lady. Just remember I can do anything,' Dan said, looking at Brooke, who bit her lip.
'Just remember, Ms. Davis, save a dance for me,' he added, leaning closer to her face. Brooke tried to turn her head, but his nails dug deeper into her skin, making her whimper when she felt Dan press his lips against hers before walking out of the bathroom, leaving her alone.
Slumping against the sink, she touched her lips, her body trembling not from the cold, but from what had just happened.
Quickly slipping Lucas' jacket around her shoulders to hide her scratched arms, Brooke was startled when Deb walked into the bathroom.
'Oh, hi.'
"Hey, Miss Scott," Brooke said with a smile. She was happy that she could fake her smiles well enough that Deb didn't question anything before she left the bathroom.
With Lucas
"Hey, Luke," a few guests said hi to Lucas as he passed by. "Hey guys," he replied with a smile before heading out of the room where the wedding was taking place.
He was on the lookout for Brooke to check how she was doing, and since the wedding was about to start, he also needed his jacket.
Lucas found Brooke sitting alone on a bench, hugging herself and wearing his jacket. He walked over with a smile, slightly concerned to see her lost in thought.
Brooke was fixing her eye makeup for the third time that day, sniffling a bit. Lucas sat beside her, and she whispered, "Don't look at me," looking away. Despite her words, Lucas was worried and nudged her gently to show his concern.
"Hey, have you been crying?" Lucas asked, looking worried. He had no idea what had made the brunette beauty suddenly upset, but he was determined to find out.
Brooke sighed and handed Lucas his jacket back, trying to divert his attention from the scratches on her arms by confessing, "I read your speech." Lucas exclaimed, turning his gaze from her arms with scratches, wondering where she got them from.
But Brooke just smiled and said, "You shouldn't leave your journal where I can find it. It was beautiful." She smiled and added, "Remember tonight for it is the beginning of always."
Lucas smiled back, looking into Brooke's hazel eyes, and remarked, "That's Dante. We read him last semester." Brooke laughed, feeling embarrassed, and said, "I need to pay more attention in English." They both burst into laughter.
Lucas was like, 'The rest is me,' making Brooke stare at him all surprised. 'The part about taking chances and believing in the possibility, even when life has given you every reason not to believe.' She grinned while Lucas nodded.
'That's what's so great about weddings: you know, two people come together, and even if it's Judy for one night, they make us believe,' he said. Brooke couldn't help but smile, shaking her head.
'Stop!' she squeaked. 'I don't have any more tissues.' Lucas chuckled, handing her his handkerchief. 'Here,' he said as Brooke rubbed her eyes and took it. 'I just hope at my wedding, someone says something that nice about me,' she whispered.
Lucas leaned in with a smile. 'I think you can count on that,' he promised. Brooke chuckled and looked up to see Jake and Peyton walking up the stairs with a gasp.
Lucas was watching the brunette go from sad to happy in a flash. 'Oh my god!' Brooke yelled, pointing at Peyton and Jake. As they walked over, completely oblivious to the photographer snapping pics of them, Brooke was all, 'You guys totally did it!' The brunette grinned.
Jake and Peyton exchanged baffled looks at Brooke's words. 'Um, uh, Brooke, we're in a church!' Peyton said, giving the younger girl a look. 'If I can tell – so can he,' Brooke smirked, pointing up at the ceiling. Lucas couldn't help but chuckle and couldn't shake Brooke's teasing from his mind.
Peyton and Jake laughed awkwardly as they came over to Lucas. 'What's with the face?' Peyton asked after Brooke skipped off. 'It's nothing,' Lucas shrugged, as Jake peered at him. 'Are you sure? You couldn't keep your eyes off of Brooke,' he teased.
Lucas laughed at his friend. 'Brooke has a boyfriend,' he explained. Peyton just shrugged. 'So? It's not like you can't be friends,' she pointed out.
Lucas was like, 'No, I'm worried about her.' Peyton and Jake looked at each other, and Peyton asked, 'About what?'
Lucas shrugged and explained, 'Well, she's got scratches on her arms and her mood is all over the place.' He let out a sigh.
Peyton and Jake looked at each other then back at him, 'I'm sure it's nothing.' Jake said, 'I hope so.' Then they all went inside the room together.
