Prologue: Something Big

"Did you hear what happened down in Hell?" someone on the street asks, strolling through the park.

"I couldn't believe it. So many exorcists are dead... including Adam..."

The mention of this makes someone drop their pencil to the ground and turn around. She watches as the two angels continue walking, sharing the information from their phones, paying little attention to the woman on the park bench.

Calypso Chisisi quickly grabs her phone and scrolls through the Heavenly News. Sure enough:

Adam, the First Man dead and many others after planned extermination in Hell

She frantically scrolls through the story, reading all she can. Besides the douchebag Adam, no other names were mentioned! Lieutenant Lute had escaped with major injuries and many more angels were unaccounted for.

Cally begins to hyperventilate. All this news about Adam and nothing about the legion of exorcists that he led into what was supposed to be a "routine mission..." Didn't seem to work out that way and now...

Frantically, Cally picks up her phone and calls her mom.

"Come on Mom, come on pick up...!" she says in a panic. Tears are welling up in her eyes and her heart races.

Four rings are absolute torture until her mother finally picks up.

"Hello?"

"MOM!" Cally yells, relieved to hear her voice. She doesn't care if she draws attention to herself from passersby in the park. "YOU'RE OKAY!"

"Of course I'm okay Cally, why wouldn't I be? And please stop yelling."

"Have you seen the news?" she says, still highly upset and hyperventilating.

"Yes, I have."

"Why... why..." she can barely get the words out. "Why didn't you..."

"Cally settle down, you're panicking again," her mother says, trying to calm her panicked daughter.

"OF COURSE I'M PANICKING! I'M AFRAID YOU WERE WITH THEM! Have you heard from Dad? How bad was it?"

"I don't know anything at this point," her mother continues, wishing her daughter would calm herself. "I haven't heard from your Father, and I don't know how bad it was."

"I'm just glad you weren't there," Cally says.

"So am I," her mother grins. "It's amazing what happens when you call in sick..."

The angel can still hear her daughter's panting on the phone.

"Calypso, I need you to calm down sweetie. Take a few deep breaths. I'm fine and I'm sure your father is fine."

"How... how can you know that?"

"Because in the last meeting, Adam had before yesterday, they were attacking the Hazbin Hotel first."

"The Hazbin Hotel?" Cally says. "What's that?"

"I really couldn't tell you. All Adam said was it needed to be destroyed first before any other exterminations. I assume that something happened, and he had a personal grudge against them. It didn't help that all he did was rant and rave about the battle plans and how those pathetic losers wouldn't know what hit them... of course, he used much more colourful language..."

"He's a maniac," her daughter says. "I don't know why you ever worked for him."

"You know it wasn't my choice," her mother reminds her. "And the exterminations...that was was all his idea... but if I'd never been with them..."

"I wouldn't exist, I know," Cally says, rolling her eyes a little bit.

"So just take a deep breath. Give it another hour and then try calling your father. I'll be home a bit later and then we'll have dinner. Do you want to have take-out?"

"No, I'll cook," Cally replies. "Love you, Mom."

"Love you too honey. See you tonight."

"Bye."

When the call ends, Cally leans down and picks up her pencil. She begins sketching again to calm herself down. She knew this would not be the end of this. It would be all over Heaven for the next few days. She had a feeling that something was going to happen around all this. Some big changes.

She looks at her hand and realizes her tattoos/markings are showing. Something she could never explain as neither of her parents had these markings. Closing her eyes, she concentrates until they've vanished, and her arm looks normal again. It wasn't easy to hide who she was and does her best to push her fears aside of what could happen if they knew.
