I've been wanting to do this story since reading the Manga.

Spoilers for the majority of the first several arc's will happen in this story, so beware if you've just started reading the manga, I guess.

1 guy.

Red - the brave fighter.

3 ladies.

Misty - the tomboyish mermaid.

Green - the cunning lass.

Yellow - the narcoleptic healer.

Love, like Pokémon, is a battlefield. That being the case, casualties are inevitable. With these 4 individuals, that truth is a reality. Through no real fault of his own, Red managed to capture the hearts of the three previously mentioned ladies, even if he's largely unaware of that fact. Between the three women, they are more or less aware that there is a possible rivalry between them. But not willing to step on the landmine called romance, and shake their stable worlds, no one has confessed to Red. But the feelings are there. Perhaps it's time to bring them out.

Inexplicably, we find ourselves in a void called 'The Safe Zone'. Here, these 4 characters exist, although not aware of each other's presences. They can't see or hear each other at all. When they try to figure out what's going on, everyone figures that they must be dreaming.

But this allows for the perfect setting to have some conversations with each one of them. Here they have the chance to talk about what's near and dear to their hearts, in a (mostly) judgement-free environment.

About Misty

Let's start by talking to Red. He's been making the best of his situation, playfully floating around upside down, taking advantage of the lack of physics or reality in this place.

"So, Red-"

The man keeps playing around, blissfully ignorant to the fact that someone is talking to him.

"Red!"

That finally got his attention. He 'sits' down, still floating in space. Laughing, "Huh, so someone else is here? I thought I was dreaming!"

"Yes, well-"

Looking around, Red then said, "This kinda reminds me of the time I nearly drowned!" He then blinks, and clarifies, "Uhh, the second time I nearly drowned."

"You were saved by Misty then, right?"

Tilting his head, Red asks, "You were there?"

"We were all pretty much there."

Red tilts his head, confused, "What?"

"Never mind. But back to Misty..."

"What a weird thing to randomly want to talk about, but okay!" Red had cheerfully replied, not at all curious as to why the direct line of questioning.

"What is Misty to you?"

"A friend," Red plainly replied, "But I have a bunch of friends." He then got surprisingly quiet for a moment. Then with a look of determination suddenly on his face, he grinned, "All of my friends are special to me, and I'll always look out for them."

"I can see why you're the ladies man."

"Huh?"

"Anyway, have you been able to hang out much with Misty lately?"

"Not as much as I'd like..." Red's words were laced with a bit of sadness.

"Oh?"

"Yeah, she's busy being a Gym Leader, and I'm usually busy traveling around. We don't get to see each other often. But whenever I stop by Cerulean City, she always takes time out of her busy schedule to spend time with me!" A moment then passes, and Red blinks, something dawning on him. "Heh..." A light blush can be seen on his face.

"Do tell."

Red then mumbled, "Eh, it's nothing..." He took a moment before continuing, "But I do like spending time with Misty. She's really laid-back and friendly, and I feel like I can talk to her about anything. She's kind of like a guy, but she's a girl, if that makes any sense. But then again, Misty's kind of... pretty." Red then got flustered about that, "N-not that I'd ever tell her that, she'd think I was weird!"

About Yellow

Seeing that Red's embarrassed himself with that revelation, and likely not willing to discuss his relationship with Misty anymore, perhaps we could focus on someone else now.

"You mentioned that you have a bunch of friends, Yellow would be another friend, correct?"

Red nods, "Yeah, Yellow's also a really close friend of mine." He then laughed, "And our Pikachu's have gotten along really well!" But after saying that, he again looked a little down.

"What's wrong?"

"Well," Red admitted, "I sometimes can't go traveling too much with Pika, because of his family. If I do want to be gone for a while, then I'll have to leave him behind with Yellow. Which isn't a bad thing, but I do miss having him around when he's not there. But she takes great care of him!"

"Interesting to see what she's been up to since everything that happened back then. Speaking of Yellow, her reveal must have been shocking!"

"Can you believe she's a girl?!"

"Er, yes... It's kind of amazing though that you couldn't tell."

"Hey, I wasn't the only one who didn't know!"

"Yeah, but you were the first one she met in your group, and the last to figure it out." He grumbled something about Gold, but that doesn't matter. "Did her reveal change anything between the two of you?"

Red blinked, "Why would things change between us? Nope, we're still good friends!" There was then that pause that followed his words though. "But now that I know Yellow's a girl, and she knows that I know that, do you think things will be awkward between us?"

"If she hasn't been avoiding you because of it, then things should be okay between you two. Unless..."

"Unless what?"

*Cheshire Grin*

"That's odd," Red replied, "But okay." He then thought to himself out loud, "I don't have much family, so I guess Yellow was the closest thing I had to that. That and our Pikachu's having a family, made me feel like we were a real family." He then shrugged, "I wonder if she'd like to live with me? Green seemed to mention that, but I thought she was just messing around..."

"Is that something you'd like?"

"I don't really know." Red then let out a sigh of relief, "But talking about it makes me feel better about her, so I guess it's alright if I say that Yellow does seem to be very pretty!"

"Yeah, you should see the fan art."

"...the what?"

About Green

"You mentioned Green a moment ago-"

"Why do you keep changing subjects..."

"-so how are things going with her?"

Red blinked, "Green? She's... pretty interesting. Green, with her beautiful blue eyes. She's like the opposite of Blue, with his green eyes."

"Uh..."

A grin and a blush quickly spread over his face. But then he ran his fingers through his hair, exasperated. "She makes things difficult for me!"

"How so?"

"Well," Red started, "She's obviously really pretty. But Misty and Yellow are too, in their own ways." He then let out a loud groan, "I hope I'm not a bad guy for thinking this way..."

"No, it's bound to happen, especially with someone in your situation."

Acting ignorant, Red continued, "I don't know what that means, but being around Green is more difficult than being around Misty or Yellow. With those two I feel like a hero. But around Green? I feel like i'm kind of inferior, and that I'm struggling to keep up with her personality." Musing over what he said, Red then continued with a smile, looking off into the distance, "I like that about her though. She's mysterious, even though I've spent a bunch of time with her, and someone who challenges me to keep wanting to impress her. With Misty, I want to stand next to her. With Yellow, I want to stand in front of her and protect her. But with Green... I kind of want to chase after her."

"Wow, deep. Green must mean a lot to you, if she can make you doubt yourself like that."

Red chuckled, "Yeah, she'll do that to you. And with all the joking that she does, she really makes it hard to get a read on her most times. Not that I mind, she's kinda like a tough battle I'm not sure I can win, but that I'd be willing to sacrifice everything to try to!"

"Do you think that she's just messing with you, like she would a brother?"

He mumbled, "I hope not. She kinda already has a brother in Silver though, right?" That made him pause and think about something.

"What's wrong?"

"Eh, I was just remembering that she did insist that I have dinner with her parents. It was kind of weird the way she kept going on and on about me to them. Silver wasn't as happy, but he said that he respected her decision. And her parents kept going on and on about how happy I made Green. They were all kind of acting strange!"

"..."

"...What?"

In summary

"Well, this has certainly been enlightening."

Red laughed, "I know, right? I normally don't get to talk about things like this, so it's a nice change of pace!" But after that cheerful tone, Red got a little down. "Not that any of them would be interested in me..."

"You don't think so?"

"Nah, if they were interested, wouldn't they have said or done something?"

"Maybe they have, and you just didn't notice..."

Red tilted his head, "You think so?" He then laughed sheepishly, "Oops if they did!" But the feeling one would get is that Red would be too nervous to upset the solid friendship he's had with all three of the girls if he confessed to one of them. And the heartbreak that would happen when the others found out.

"Quite an interesting life you've got with them."

Red nodded, "Yeah." He then leaned back looking off into what passes for outer space, "But I wish I knew what they think about things..."

Way ahead of you, Red.

Huh.

So there we go! Each chapter may end up featuring a different topic, all revolving around each other, or their main squeeze, Red!
