Lorelei discovered that she was stronger when she tried to open the door.

The handle groaned in protest of her grip, and a crunch sounded out as the handle was torn off the wooden door.

Lorelei gaped at the doorknob, lifting it up so she could examine it.

She tried to push the door open, but the latch bolt was still in the metal portion of the door frame.

Lorelei peered out of the hole, not wanting to damage it more than it already was.

She was stuck, and she couldn't hear anyone coming by.

Sighing, Lorelei scanned the room and spotted her space suit.

"NAISC, you still there?"

"Always, Lorelei."

"Start a log, please."

"Starting."

Nova crouched down next to her helmet, staring into the camera.

"This is Lorelei Dale. A few days ago I was on the Mars International Space Station coming back from an expedition to Mars to set up a scientific community. A week in we lost communication with Mission Control in Texas," Lorelei opened up a hologram, showing Earth before zooming out with a swipe of her hand, controlling the hologram until it zoomed in on Mars and the MISS, "we ran every diagnostic until we made the decision to go out and check the comms dish."

The hologram zoomed in on the communications dish.

"I went out with another crew member, Jordon Wilson, to do repairs. While we were out, a massive, abnormal CME erupted from the Sun. We were hit. I was hit. Some sort of-" Lorelei stood, ruffling her hair as she paced, "sort of portal transported me from my universe to the universe of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in the 1940's no less. As someone who is from the 2050's, it's quite the shock. Some… being called Dormammu consumed my universe, my Soulmate." Lorelei let out a shaky breath, hand falling to her wrist as the burning sensation of her atoms separating washed over her.

Her breath came out in shaky gasps, and she tried to keep herself together, literally.

An warped agonized moan was caught by the tape, voice somehow distorted by her ability.

It took some time and concentration, but she formed herself back to her normal self leaving her gasping and groaning in pain.

"Are you alright, Lorelei?" NAISC asked.

"I'm… alive. Hurt like a bitch." Lorelei said.

"Might I suggest that you rest? This can't be good for your health." NAISC said.

"I'll be fine, I think." Lorelei said, turning to the helmet.

"So, ah, um, I was transported to the MCU, which from where I'm from are films and comics. But I think I'll just sit back. I can't do anything, or live long enough to be of any use to the Avengers. I mean, seventy plus years? I'd have to create some sort of cryostasis! And my body would not be able to be of any use in preserving and suspending my cells. I could possibly do the math, but I would need some sort of Super Soldier Serum to be able to prevent any ice damage, plus I don't think that the current grid system could handle that amount of power siphoning." Lorelei sighed again.

"It would just be best to adjust to the era and live a quiet life." Lorelei fell silent, staring at the ceiling as she struggled with her emotions.

She had lost her livelihood, her career, her crew mates, her family, friends, and Soulmate.

How much more would she lose?

She sighed. "End log."

"Ending log."

Lorelei sat in silence.

Her attention was brought to footsteps, and she quickly stood and rushed to the door.

"Hello? Is somebody there?"

Silent disbelief.

"Yes?" A voice hesitantly called out.

"Oh great! So uh, I kinda destroyed my doorknob and I'm stuck in this room," Lorelei stuck her hand out of the hole, waving.

There was a faint snort before the person approached.

Lorelei shoved a hand through the black curly mass of her hair as she waited.

The person fidgeted with the door, calling another person over, having a hushed discussion with them.

Lorelei paced as people gathered, then turned as she heard a strange whooshing hiss.

The portal she had only seen in movies widened quickly, showing the man who was with the Ancient One.

"We'll fix the door, come with me, if you will please." The man said, closing the portal as Lorelei stepped through.

"That is fascinating! Does it act like a wormhole? Does it rip a hole through space-time? How does it repair the fabric of space-time?"

"I'm not quite sure," The man replied, holding up the ring on his fingers.

"The sling-ring! Oh! Maybe it stabilizes it, that's probably it!" Lorelei muttered.

The duo fell into silence.

" I never did get your name, " Lorelei said, feeling awkward.

"My name is Arthur."

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Arthur." Lorelei said.

They arrived at a room where two women were waiting.

The duo took over in a flurry of movement, taking out tape measures as Arthur politely left the room.

One of the women tsked as she examined Lorelei, "you're far too skinny! What have you been eating?"

"...Space food." Lorelei mumbled.

"Pardon?"

"Not much." Lorelei said louder.

The duo gave her an exasperated look before returning to the measuring.

The next month passed in a blur, in the first week Lorelei was given some second hand clothes that fit pretty well, and she learned to control her emotions which were closely connected to her ability.

The second week she also had begun to learn the Mystic Arts and that had helped reign in her abilities.

Lorelei had ventured out on the third week, having receiving her new clothes which had less pants than she would have liked.

She had explored 1941's New York, fascinated by the clear night's sky, the Milky Way unhindered by the minimal light pollution.

Her fingers itched to get her hands on a telescope.

At the end of the fourth week she found a job at a flower shop.

She had to adjust to the pay, the inflation in the 2050's was an absolute nightmare.

Lorelei had entered Linda's Floral Shop, seeing the help wanted sign.

She stepped in, looking around at the shop, taking in the warm inviting atmosphere.

"Hello! How can I help you?"

"Hello, I saw in the sign that you were hiring, are you still hiring?"

"Yes! When can you start?"

Lorelei blinked, surprised.

"Just like that?"

"Yes! Our other employee had to leave as she was moving and you're the first one to ask. I'm Dolly, by the way!" Dolly eagerly extended her hand towards Lorelei.

"Lorelei. Pleasure to meet you." Lorelei took Dolly's hand with a smile.

"Welcome to the team, Lorelei!"

"Thank you, Dolly." Lorelei said.

"Say, you don't sound like you're from around here, might I ask where you're from?"

"Oh, I'm from Texas, born and raised."

"We don't get a lot of Texans around here! Did you move here with your family?" Dolly pressed, curious.

"Ah, no. I'm the only one, my family passed away in an accident."

Dolly's hands flew to her mouth, tears appearing in her eyes.

"Oh my! I'm so sorry!"

"Don't be, they're in a better place now." Lorelei said, "I've had time to come to terms with it all. I'm staying with a distant relative until I can stand on my own two feet. If it's alright with you, I wouldn't mind starting tomorrow?"

"Of course! I'll give you a rundown first thing tomorrow! Come in at say, six in the morning?"

"I can do that." Lorelei said, "I should probably get going, don't want to worry my Aunt!" Lorelei chuckled at calling the Ancient One her 'Aunt'.

"See you tomorrow, then!" Dolly said, waving.
