Part 2 of Spectral files! This one took me forever to complete even though I was looking forward to sharing it with you all. And then took me three extra weeks to reformat because FF doesn't allow tables :/
I want to give a special thanks to 'Vlad Mir Shah' for creating most of the stat information for the table of content section, and for essentially inspiring this series! Naturally, chapter is dedicated to him. Thanks, my friend! :)

Spectral Files Part 2
Danny was hooked. From the moment he picked up Vlad's book, he could not put it down. He only left the lab to grab food and bathroom breaks. He was pleasantly surprised that the book was quite extensive. Clearly, the man had spent years creating it, and he was not even finished yet! But that's what he loved about it most! He loved the little side notes; or the inserts to add more on something. He also liked the references to other files or books. In fact, he eventually grabbed a notebook and began to write down the references so he could look up some those books or files for extra reading later on.
Sure, in all this time, Vlad had shared quite a bit with him. They trained and practiced together, and Vlad always taught him something new. But this… this was different. It was like having Vlad's brain at his fingertips. It was absolutely fascinating!
Eventually after the first day, he had started getting muscle kinks everywhere on his body from sitting on the lab chairs. They were usually comfortable; but even expensive lab chairs and stools were painful after several hours of use.
So, Danny got the brilliant idea of bringing down one of Vlad's reclining chairs from one of his two lounge rooms with the help of intangibility.
And using one of Vlad's tablets in the lab, he synced up the ghost files and read well into the night.
He spent his Sunday pretty much in the same manner. By now, he had pages full of notes; and like the night before he ended up falling asleep in the lab.
Monday came by too quickly, and still as rainy as the weekend, if not more. Luckily on Mondays he only had one class late in the afternoon. He hoped it would stop raining by then.
Standing up and stretching from the lounge chair, he made a mental note to ask Vlad if he could get one of these treasures in his room. It was super comfy.
But then, he suddenly frowned when he picked up the tablet on the chair and realized the battery was near dead.
He went over to the mainframe and pulled open the top drawer of the nearest storage cabinet. He took out the second tablet with a smirk.
Vlad's wealth did have its perks.
He hooked up the dead tablet for recharging and quickly linked up the new one to continue his reading.
His stomach then grumbled, and he decided to take his reading to the kitchen.
He smiled at the thought of a bowl of his favorite sugary cereal he had stashed in the back of the pantry. Vlad hated when Danny brought in junk food to his home when according to him there were 'more quality options.' The teen knew Vlad wouldn't go as far as to throw out his food, even if he didn't agree with it; but if hiding it on the lowest shelf in the back of the pantry kept him from hearing the man nag at him, then he would hide it.
And, boy, could the fruitloop nag! The last discussion they had on what was considered 'junk' food had lasted a good thirty minutes. Granted, Danny was feeling specifically more stubborn that day.
But as much as he liked to gripe at him, the older hybrid had his own cravings. And one of them was veggie rolls. No way that wasn't junk food when it was fried dough. So what if it had vegetables inside it? And so what if the man made them from scratch?
The guy literally would make them in batches and freeze them for quick snacks that he would eat almost every day. No way it was healthy, even if he 'air-fried' them most of the time.
The truth was, though, that while annoyed at times, Danny had grown to enjoy learning things like that about Vlad. The guy was so out there most of the time that learning something like the man enjoying some form of unhealthy snack reminded him that even Vlad could be 'normal' sometimes.
In the meantime, Danny would continue to enjoy his sugary foods here and there. Besides, he had an excuse today. George wasn't here. And no one would be returning to the house until tomorrow. Danny wasn't going to make an elaborate breakfast just for himself.
Besides, he wanted to get back to his reading.
He finally got to the kitchen, and served himself his bowl of cereal before he sat down at the nook right beside the kitchen.
He turned on the tablet that had been on sleep mode, and began to scroll to find where he had left off before he drifted to sleep last night.
He vaguely realized he forgot his notepad in the lab.
That's fine. He didn't plan on staying in the kitchen long.
Danny finally remembered where he had left off. He was not even halfway through Vlad's book. But he now remembered he had taken a break from it after the book kept referencing 'Individual Stats and Breakdown' files, and it was enough to really make him curious. So, he paused with Vlad's book and located these 'Individual' files.
He had immediately realized it was like an encyclopedia of individual ghosts, including him and Vlad; and a few spirits they had met.
At first glance, the files had looked like the ghost files he had seen plenty of times on Vlad's computer. That is, until he had realized that these were so much more extensive. He recalled wondering the entire time how on earth had Vlad gotten this data.
The amount of details was kinda… creepy, actually.
Just not creepy enough to keep Danny away.
With a smile, then teen returned back to the table of content to see whose file he wanted to open next…
He already knew that for now, he would not be able to read each one, since while some were only a page or two; some were as large as thirty pages. He knew so when he briefly had gone into his own file, and immediately thought better of it and go out of it…
But that didn't mean he wouldn't eventually read it. For now, he wanted to read someone else's file… Vlad's? Definitely. But he needed his note pad for it… So, maybe someone else for now…
He began to scan through the table of content and the summaries besides it…

Danny rolled his eyes at reading his summary again. He had, of course, noticed it yesterday; but surprisingly, besides glancing at it, he had not returned to it yet. For some reason, it made him uncomfortable to do so.

He glanced at the summary again, and noted it said 'Age 18'. So, either Vlad had forgotten to update that part; or he still believed it to be true.
"He's one to talk… obsessive fruit loop," he grumbled. "And I am totally not possessive!"
He paused, and then wondered thoughtfully, "Am I?"
What did Vlad think he was possessive about? Maybe his friends and family? No… Vlad had once told him he was obsessed with his protection of them. He had hated to admit that, but eventually he had to. After all, no greater proof than the fact that he had been about to throw away his entire future to remain in Amity Park as the local hero not too long ago…
Not that he still didn't watch over his town, friends, and family; but it had been really hard to let go…
Danny shook his head of the sudden unwanted thoughts. He considered jumping into reading his file at last, but…. for some reason he still couldn't bring himself to do it.

Danny frowned deeply, but then shook his head. He might have to make a trip to Dark's old home. Or… maybe ask Vlad. Obviously, Vlad knew something if he had marked the file to be 'archived.'

Danny smirked. Oh, he was totally reading Vlad's file. But he really needed his notepad he left at the lab. If Vlad was as detailed as he was with the files he had read so far, this was going to be an interesting and enlightening read.
Naturally, Vlad was more open with him about his powers and ghost-half after these past few years, but he knew Vlad still saw him as a kid and still kept things from him. He tried to not be annoyed most of the time since Danny had to admit Vlad was not completely wrong.
He was only eighteen; but, hey, he considered himself more mature than what a normal eighteen year old would be. He had to be after all the near-death experiences he had lived through.
But, of course, his mentor did not care about all that. Danny was still a kid in his eyes. And…in some way, Danny appreciated that. He liked that Vlad treated him like a normal kid. Well, when they were not dealing with ghost stuff, at least.
Danny smiled at the thought but then turned his eyes back to the table of contents as he took another bite of his cereal.

Danny frowned at Vlad's comment on Youngblood. He really hope Vlad wasn't serious about trying to capture that bratty ghost. He was annoying but he didn't like the idea of Vlad forcing any ghost into his lab to 'study' it. He noted a few side notes similar to Youngblood's on some ghosts… Maybe they were old notes…
He hoped.
Danny sighed before he took another bite of cereal. There were times the young hybrid wondered what Vlad did while he wasn't around or 'looking'. Of course, the evil plots were in the past; but Vlad… well, in some ways he would always be Vlad… always be Plasmius.
Danny supposed he had changed, too, because the knowledge of that fact did not bother him like he knew it would have bothered him when he was fourteen. The man wasn't perfect. But that's what made him human. Danny knew he was also far from perfect, too…
With that thought, he scrolled back up to 'Vlad Plasmius' on the table of content. Maybe he really didn't want to read anyone else's file but Vlad's right now… He did need that notepad; but hey, he could always start reading now and then just re-read if there were notes he wanted to take…
Danny smiled to himself as he quickly tapped on the link that would open up Vlad's ghost file.
Too bad, a pop-up came up that read 'Classified Entry. Password Required'.
Danny frowned deeply. He then tried 'Stephanie Masters'; but that didn't work. He next tried 'Annabelle Masters; then, 'Danielle Masters'; Even 'Vlad Plasmius'. None worked.
"Seriously?" Danny groaned. He drummed his fingers on the table for a moment as he thought of what else to try. He knew Vlad had too much faith in his technology so it was unlikely he made a complicated password with letters and numbers and…
He paused as he remembered that one time when he was fifteen that he had been in Vlad's office at Vladco; and the password was…
Danny typed in 'Daniel Masters', and the file opened.
Danny scoffed. "Either Vlad is really bad at updating his passwords; or he is still dreaming… Fruit Loop."
Focusing back on the now open file, the first thing Danny noticed was the date at the top left indicating that the file was last updated a year ago.
Next, he saw the pictures of the man in both his human and ghost forms. They were side by side. First set was a close facial shot of his ghost and human face. Next, as he scrolled down, a front full body shot; followed with a full body side shot. And for some weird reason, a full body, back shot.
He supposed at least the man was not naked or something. That he would not have been able to unsee. Then again, there was that time they were pulling pranks on each other…
That had been both gross and hilarious.
Danny smirked a bit but then pushed the memory away and began to read…

Danny read over the power summaries again. Come to think of it, there were quite a few he had never heard about… And Vlad had not shown to him.
He frowned thoughtfully before he continued. There were various sections now. Starting with 'Spectral formation'.
Danny began to read, and he realized it was about how Vlad obtained his powers. But this was a breakdown of how they developed. Almost like a time-line.
The teen paused. Maybe he shouldn't be reading this… Vlad did password protect it. And Vlad had never really shared that many details on his transformation aside from what he knew from his parents; and the bits and pieces Vlad had commented on, like how it had taken a few years before his ghost form fully manifested…
Danny flicked his finger down the screen and realized this section had just over three pages worth. He decided to skip it for now, and focused on the next section. 'Core and Powers'.
"Whoa… that's…"
"Daniel?"
Danny jolted and his eyes widened as he saw none other than Vlad entering the kitchen.
"Vlad!"
The man raised an eyebrow with the boy's exaggerated response to his arrival.
"I mean… Sorry, you startled me," Danny quickly said with a small blush. "Um… What are you doing here? And… why are you wet?"
The man was indeed soaked to the bone. He looked like he had taken a dive in his swimming pool with a full suit and shoes before coming in.
This time, the man shook his head and walked closer to the teenager.
But seeing his approach, Danny glanced down at the tablet and quickly swiped it into sleep mode.
But either the man didn't notice or ignored it, and just walked past Danny and went to the kitchen. He pulled from a drawer a clean hand towel as he replied, "Well, let's see… I'm here because this is my house; and I'm soaked because there is a tropical storm outside, which by the way, has been on the news for the past two weeks."
Danny chuckled in embarrassment and rubbed his neck while Vlad used the towel to wipe his face and then his hair until he realized it was pointless.
He supposed he could just phase off the gallons of water on him, but then he would have to mop the kitchen. And he really didn't feel like cleaning right now…
"I knew that…," Danny muttered; but then added, "Well, maybe not. I knew the weather was bad this weekend and today but I don't really watch the news so didn't know about… the tropical storm. And what I meant was that I thought you and Stephanie were not returning until tomorrow."
Vlad leaned against the kitchen counter and crossed his arms. A look of deep annoyance settled on his face.
"That was the plan. Then, I got a call from the building engineer for my new biomechanics building. Apparently, the idiot didn't realize that there were two more permit contracts that needed to be signed by me. I even told him to make sure everything got done before my trip this past week. But, of course… the fool failed to even do that correctly!"
"Yikes. But it was probably an honest mistake, Vlad. Give the guy a break," Danny said with a small frown.
Vlad rolled his eyes. "I am giving him a break… by not firing him… yet. Anyways, I didn't want to interrupt Stephanie's plans since she had been looking forward to that agricultural and farming convention for over a year. The girls were enjoying it, too, so I told her to stay with them; and I would head back early. Then, of course, because of the weather, I couldn't get clearance to return on my private plane; so that left me with no choice but to book a flight through Mitchell International. First class was all booked; so I ended up in business-class next to a woman who wanted to share her life story with me. And if that was not enough, the flight got delayed by two hours! It was an absolute nightmare!"
Danny smiled at Vlad's pouting face. "You do know you're a spoiled rich dude, right?"
Vlad rolled his eyes again. "Why? Because I do not like airports? Or commercial flights? I think that's true for most people, Daniel. Unfortunately for most people, they have no choice but to bear it. I, on the other hand, don't need to bear it; so yes, I will complain."
"My point still stands."
"Oh, hush, you," Vlad replied and suddenly threw the wet hand towel at him.
Danny quickly caught it before it could hit his face and grinned smugly at the other hybrid.
"Gotta be faster than that, old man," Danny teased.
Vlad huffed as he pushed away from the kitchen counters; but there was a hint of a smile on his face.
He started taking off his wet suit jacket as he said a little too sweetly, "By the way, little badger, may I ask you a question?"
"Um… yeah?"
"Is that one of my iPads from the lab?"
Danny let out a small nervous laugh and rubbed his neck. "Guess it is."
"Hmm, is there a reason why you have it? Not that I mind; but last time I checked, you have your own. And those are strictly to be used with my lab's database."
Danny smiled back. "I might have been doing some ghost research this weekend…"
Vlad raised an eyebrow, but he still looked somewhat amused. "Really? Were you that bored, little badger?"
"Actually, I was. Like you said, it's been raining the past days; and I don't exactly have school work since this past week was just intro stuff. Plus, I couldn't really go anywhere in this weather. I figured I'd do something productive and read up on some ghost theory stuff."
Vlad nodded his approval. "I suppose that's a good way to spend a rainy weekend.
Ignoring the fact that he was still soaked, he set his wet jacket on the kitchen island and pulled out a bowl and spoon from a cupboard and drawer before walking over to the younger hybrid. He took a seat next to him and reached for the box of cereal and milk still on the table.
Danny blinked in surprise as he watched the man pour himself the sugary food.
"What were you reading exactly?" Vlad asked before he took a bite of the cereal. He frowned slightly as he chewed and then reached for the box to look at the nutritional label.
"Uh…"
"Honestly, Daniel…," Vlad cut him off before the teen could say anything else. "You might as well eat cake for breakfast."
Glad for the change of topic, Danny chuckled and replied, "No one's forcing you to eat that, Vladdie…,"
"I'm starving and I am stressed… Besides, it means less for you to consume. Necessary evil, I suppose" Vlad answered as he took another bite and then poured himself more cereal.
"Huh…," Danny thought. "So, hungry and stressed-out Vlad equals normal Vlad…? I don't know why I'm surprised, but hey…good to know that all I have to do to get him to buy more junk food around here is stress him out a bit… heh."
But out loud he said, "Guess that explains why you are sitting here soaked and eating my cereal. Aren't you cold?"
Vlad extended a hand, palm up, towards the boy.
Danny raised an eyebrow but still extended his own and placed it above the man's own. But he didn't even have to touch him to immediately feel the heat radiating off his hand.
"Oh, right, walking furnace," Danny said with a small smirk.
Vlad rolled his eyes yet again; but then pointing his spoon at the boy, he said, "You didn't answer my question."
"What?" Danny asked.
Vlad reached for the dormant iPad on the table and Danny immediately grabbed it.
Vlad lowered his spoon this time. "Daniel…?" he asked suspiciously this time.
Danny smiled meekly. He considered telling the man he had found his unfinished book he was writing; but he wasn't sure if Vlad would be happy about that. And worse, he knew for a fact that Vlad would not be happy that he guessed his password protected ghost file and was reading private information on the man.
But he had to tell him something…
"Um… Well… I was bored…"
"Yes…?"
Danny picked the lesser of the two evils.
"I found your… book?"
"Oh…," Vlad replied. He looked down at his cereal before he picked up his spoon and continued to eat it.
There was a brief silence before Danny dared to ask, "…You don't mind…?"
Vlad shrugged. "It's just not finished. I have a lot of errors that need to be corrected. And some sections are incomplete. Honestly, I have it on a hiatus. It's been two years since I looked at it for more than five minutes at a time. Just… been busy with everything else."
He paused before glancing at Danny only briefly before asking, "…What do you think of it?"
"Dude, I couldn't put it down!" Danny immediately exclaimed. "I have so many questions though! I mean, just the core types… I had no idea!"
Vlad chuckled warmly and finally met the boy's eyes.
"I'm glad you found it so enlightening and entertaining, little badger. And I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have."
Danny grinned back. "Are you going to publish it? When you're finished, of course. You totally should!"
"Heavens, no," Vlad answered with a smile of his own.
Danny frowned. "Why not…?"
"Because the last thing I want is human hunters, like the Guys-in-White, to learn more about ghost biology. And sharing it even in the Ghost Zone would be dangerous when it includes hybrid information…"
"Oh, yeah…," Danny muttered. "That's a shame…"
Vlad shrugged. "I wrote it for myself, honestly. A sort of testament of the vast knowledge I've acquired in my years as a hybrid. And, well, now it can also be of use to you, too."
Danny smiled at that.
"Anyhow, I really need to get out of these clothes," Vlad said, standing up.
"I'll get the bowls. Don't worry about it."
"Thank you, little badger," Vlad answered and ruffled his hair a bit. "Did you want to do some reading together after I get back? I won't be meeting with the engineer until early tomorrow."
"Yeah! Oh, wait…" Danny frowned. "I have a class this afternoon."
Vlad raised an eyebrow. "In this weather? I am almost sure classes were cancelled today."
"Oh…" Danny pulled his phone from his back pocket as Vlad turned away to grab his wet jacket from the kitchen island.
As soon as the teen unlocked his phone a text message from his school came up notifying all classes were cancelled for today.
"Guess you're right," Danny answered.
Vlad smirked. "Naturally. Be back shortly."
Danny rolled his eyes but then he remembered something. Specifically, he remembered what he had read on Vlad's powers.
"Hey, Vlad?"
"Hmm…?"
"Can we train today? I, uh, saw some interesting powers listed under the 'Spectral Power' section of your book. I wanted to try some out… You know, maybe I can learn some of them."
"Which powers?" Vlad asked, curiously.
"Nothing crazy…," Danny answered innocently. "Like, body modification, or astro projection… um, ghost venom?"
Vlad chuckled. "Little badger, you're not ready for those yet. You need to be at least a 9 ecto-level for the first two."
"And the venom thing?" Danny insisted. "Like… um, can you do that?"
Danny, of course, knew he could; but he really didn't want to tell Vlad he was reading his file.
"Yes," Vlad replied with a small frown. "It's not anything… important though. Not really much practical use for it."
"Can you still show me? At least explain what it is?"
The man hesitated before he nodded. "I suppose so… "
"Awesome! This is why you're my favorite guardian!"
"Hilarious, Daniel," Vlad replied dryly since they both knew he was the boy's only guardian.
Danny just chuckled as Vlad finally left. But he quickly got up and started cleaning. He was all the more excited to continue his reading; but with Vlad here, it could wait. He was more excited to see Vlad show him some of these powers he never heard of. Maybe if he was lucky, he could get Vlad to demonstrate his full range of powers.
Maybe tonight, he could finish reading Vlad's personal ghost file. At least just the parts that weren't too private…
As Danny focused on tidying up, Vlad went up the stairs. But instead of going to his room, he went to his lab.
The first thing he noticed when he got there was the lounge chair that should not be in his lab.
Vlad rolled his eyes; but then he walked over to pick up the notebook.
The man briefly combed through Danny's notes and smiled. But he then set the notepad back down, and turned to his mainframe.
"Stephanie dear," Vlad called out; and almost immediately a virtual projection of his wife appeared beside him.
"Yes, love?"
"Pull the history on what has been accessed on the database in the past three days…"
"Right away, my handsome husband."
Vlad didn't wait long, and quickly clicked through the history records. Just like Danny had said, he had spent most of the weekend reading his book. And he had opened one of the reference books for about an hour yesterday.
"Wait…," Vlad frowned deeply as he noticed the last entries… These were from his ghost files… From his confidential file.
How had the boy cracked his password?
Vlad sighed. He couldn't be upset at Danny for being curious. And, really, he obviously needed better passwords. But some files were locked for a reason. He didn't mind his little badger going through his database, but these restricted files were either personal or just not suitable for a child to read.
Even if Danny was growing up and technically an adult, he was still just a young man. Daniel was not ready to read his ghost file.
"How many pages did he read of my personal ghost file?" he asked his projection.
"History shows he did not scroll past page five.
Vlad sighed again. At least he had not gotten into the details of some of his more… dangerous powers. And then the section of his 'ghost psyche' and 'Anatomy and Physiology'. Then all the self-experiment logs... and near-death experiences...
"Stephanie dear," Vlad called. "Temporarily hide from view my ghost file past page ten. Only allow access to retrieve the entirety of the file with a face and voice verification by me."
"Right away, my love. To what duration is this temporary block?"
Vlad thought about that. "Ten years from now… If he is still interested, Daniel will be old enough then. Also, can you scan through the rest of my database and add the same block on any other restricted file?"
"Time set. And scanning database now for additional restricted files…"
Vlad finally turned away to get out his wet clothes. He was sure the boy would try to probably read later today when he thought Vlad wouldn't discover him. He should have enough information in the first ten pages to soothe his curiosity. Or, Vlad hoped so.
The older hybrid huffed. "Now how the blazes am I supposed to explain ghost venom to an eighteen-year-old? Then again…" The man smirked evilly. "The embarrassment on his face when I do will make for a very entertaining training session…"
Vlad laughed at that thought.
