Chapter 4-8: Just an Employee
Somewhere in the Zabab Market, the monkey arrives to see a man, who is actually the thief.
The monkey calls out to his master, "Ook!"
"Hey, little buddy. How'd it go?" The thief asks.
The monkey is revealed to have taken a lot of stuff, phones, wallet, jewelry, and other items, including the USB Drive for the fireworks.
Now that's what I call a haul! The Fireworks Fest is no joke. Tons of people streaming in, all excited for the festival... Excited, and distracted. And more of 'em are on their way. We'll be rakin' in the dough tonight!" The thief says.
Suddenly, someone calls out, "Using a monkey to steal for you? Only a street performer could pull that trick off. I'm afraid the jig is up, though."
The thief quickly turns around, "Who are you?!"
The one who confronts the thief is Jamil, "Just a dedicated employee who hates cleaning up other people's messes."
"How'd you know I was here?" The thief demands.
"I figured you'd pick the most isolated spot possible to peruse your stolen wares," Jamil says.
The thief scoffs, "Tch. Well, good luck catchin' me!"
The thief soon begins to run off with his monkey.
"Heh. Don't bother trying to run," Jamil says.
The thief stops to find one path being blocked by Cater and Tanzanite.
The thief says, "Rgh... He's got backup, huh. Little does he know, we grew up here. We can get outta this, no sweat," And runs off to another area, "Just take this little shortcut, and...What?!"
And is soon stopped by Trey and Jasper.
The thief tries another way, but Malleus, Sereia, and Trinket block that way as well. The thief tries another, but is blocked by Kalim, Grim, and Briar.
"You ain't gettin' through, buster!" Grim says.
Then Jamil says, "You're not the only one who knows this city. Back alleys? Canal boats? None of that's going to work. I've got every possible exit covered by highly capable mages. If you think you're getting away, you're sorely mistaken."
"...Fine, then we'll do this the hard way. You're in for a world of hurt!" The thief says.
"One of us certainly is. I've spent my entire trip playing both babysitter and tour guide. And I refuse to let all that work go down the drain because of some petty thief! You're going to pay for adding to my workload," Jamil says.
And with that, Jamil is able to take care of the thief and his pet.
Late in the evening, Jamil and the others are able to capture the thief and his monkey accomplice and turn them over to the police.
The officer says, "We've been looking for this guy since we heard about the thefts in this area. I'm glad you caught him. Thanks for bringing him in. We'll take it from here."
The thief struggles, "Uuugh... Please, go easy on me. I won't steal anymore…"
"Ook…" The monkey replies.
"We'll return all the stolen items to their owners," The officer says.
Then Jamil says, "Actually, we can return one of those, if you don't mind," and takes the USB drive.
Soon, they're able to find the Pyrotechnician and Jamil returns the USB stick, "Sir, is this your USB stick?"
The Pyrotechnician is very happy to get it back, "Yes, that's it! All my data's on there! Thank you so much for getting it back!"
"Isn't it great? The show's back on!" Kalim says.
"Absolutely. Now nothing'll get in the way of everyone enjoying the Fireworks Fest," Pyrotechnician says.
"That was amazing," Sereia says.
Grim laughs, "Wahahaha! Yeah, I know, I'm great like that."
"I think it was really Jamil who caught him," Trey says.
"Yeah. If it wasn't for Jamil, we may never get the USB stick back," Briar says.
But Jamil says, "Please. I just did my job. The sun's almost set. Let's get to the venue!"
And with that, everyone heads back to the venue to watch the fireworks.
