The Tales of Cynthia

'From Gible to Garchampion'

Prologue

According to the traditions of the ancient clans of Hisui, a Pokémon egg is bestowed upon each child on their 10th birthday. This practice was believed to create a bond that would one day unite Pokémon and humans. Each clan specialized in a different Pokémon type. The Magefyre clan, with their mystic powers, forged a unique bond with dragon Pokémon, making them the most powerful of all.

However, with the arrival of the Ice Age, the lands became a frozen wasteland. This marked the beginning of the end for the Magefyre clan as the dragons' powers greatly weakened. This led to a sharp decline in their population, almost to the point of extinction. Their decline saw the rise of the Ice clan Glaciers, armed with their new knowledge of the dragons' weakness, they renamed themselves Dragons Bane. They set out to destroy the Magefyre clan and claim superiority over Hisui.

With the Magefyre clan now under attack, they were forced to scatter throughout Hisui and go into hiding. Over time their ancient knowledge of their powers and dragon bonding were lost to them. Efforts to remedy the situation proved futile. Fewer eggs were laid, and even fewer hatched. eventually, the remaining ones turned to stone. A dragon's egg was once the envy of the land. A once majestic, scaled egg with vibrant colours, radiating a mystic aura, became a lifeless stone drained of its aura and colour. Their only saving grace was the dragons that could escape the frozen wasteland could live for a thousand years.

As the world evolved, the dream of Pokémon and humans uniting was achieved in modern times. The days of clans were over, and the world believed that the era of dragons was coming to an end. With the last living in Kanto under the protection of the dragon tamer and Champion of the region, Lance.

Chapter One – The day of reckoning

The excitement of a young girl fills the air. Normally a calm, well-mannered girl, as to be expected of a Lady in training, came bursting out of her bedroom. Knowing what was waiting for her, manners could wait for a day. From the moment young Cynthia was able to understand the ancient traditions of her family, she has counted down the seconds until this day. At long last she was ten years old, now entitled to inherit the dragon's egg.

Aware the years had turned the egg to stone did not extinguish her excitement. Part of her always felt so drawn to the egg, almost like she could hear it call out to her. She always dismissed these voices. Surely it was all just her imagination running wild, playing out her deepest desires, being the one to hatch the egg and finally see the dragon. Her Grandmother was finally awake, lacking the energy to keep up with Cynthia this excited. Now able to retrieve the egg from the underground vault. It was planned to have the egg ready for Cynthia, but no one foreseen her being awake so early and eager. She noted in the back of her mind the sharp change in her granddaughter's behaviour.

Finally, after all these years, Cynthia had the egg in her hand. She knew the eggs had lost their mystic aura radiating from them. However, she was slightly disappointed at how faded the egg was after hearing tales of its vibrant colours. Still, this was not enough to diminish her excitement. She had waited far too long for this day to allow for something so trivial to damper her excitement. The grey-scaled egg was now under her protection. A duty she gladly accepted.

A sudden urge overcame her to bring the egg to the ancient ruins in the cave behind their manor. Once again, overwhelmed with these new feelings, forgetting her manners again, she bolted for the cave. While she may have been old enough to receive the egg, gaining access to the cave would have to wait for her 18th birthday. A new rule had to be introduced as the cave was slowly becoming a hazard. Soon brought back to reality as she was stopped in her tracks by the guards at the ruins entrance. This allowed her grandmother to catch up to her.

Beginning to scold the girl for her recklessness, Cynthia became overwhelmed with a burning rage, convinced she could hear the dragon roar in anger and felt her blood boil, feeling a direct connection to the life inside the egg. Never feeling this before, the young girl quickly became overwhelmed. Horror overcame the grandmother, knowing her granddaughter to be a sweet, calm, reserved child, she became froze with shock unsure of what was happening and how to stop it. Feeling like a lifetime, only lasting a heartbeat the sight of darkness overcame the girl, and everything fell silent.

Three days later the girl woke in her bed, the egg was nowhere to be seen. Like a mother missing her child, the dread overcame the girl causing a panic attack to emerge. Her Grandmother hearing the commotion ran to her granddaughter's room, immediately grabbing her to calm her down. Slowly coming back to reality, Cynthia convinced herself she awoke from a strange nightmare, feeling almost foolish for her actions, redness slowly creeping on her cheeks from the embarrassment of her outburst.
