"Morning sunshine," Dean stated as Sam opened his eyes.
"Where am I?" Sam asked as he looked around trying to orient himself. He was freezing, and his head pounded.
"My bed. Do you feel any better?" Dean asked as he placed his hand on Sam's forehead.
"You're freezing," Sam said as he winced at the cold touch.
"No, you're burning up, maybe we should take you to the hospital?" Dean asked as he looked at Sam with worry.
"I'll be fine once I kick this stomach bug," Sam stated.
"Here, take this," Dean stated as he handed him some Tylenol and some water.
"Thanks," Sam said. He sat up as he placed the pills in his mouth and took a sip of water, hoping that it would at least lower his fever.
"Did you get any sleep?" Dean asked.
"A few hours," Sam stated as Dean's phone rang.
"Hello," Dean answered the phone.
"Dean, it's Jerry Panowski. You and your Dad helped me with a poltergeist a few years back."
"It's not back, is it?" Dean asked.
"No, but it's something else and I think it could be a lot worse."
"What is it?" Dean asked.
"Can we talk in person?"
"Now's not a good time for me, but I can have another…"
"Dean, what are you doing? I'm still capable of working," Sam interrupted.
"Are you sure?" Dean mouthed to Sam.
"Yes, tell him that we'll meet him," Sam stated.
"My brother and I can meet you later today. Text me the address" Dean stated and then hung up the phone.
"Sam, maybe you should stay here, Bobby and I can…"
"No, I want to work, please," Sam pleaded with Dean.
"Fine, but I need you resting on the drive," Dean stated as he sighed. He could never say no to his baby brother's puppy dog eyes, hopefully, it wouldn't be something that would get them killed.
"I'll shower and then we'll go," Sam said as he climbed out of bed. He felt like hell, but perhaps the distraction of work would take his mind off of the wings that he was growing.
XOXOXO
"Thanks for making the trip so quick. I should be the one doing you the favor not the other way around. Dean and your Dad helped me out," Jerry stated.
"Yeah he told me it was a poltergeist," Sam stated.
"If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be alive," Jerry stated.
"Your Dad said that you were off at College, is that right?"
"Yeah I was, I'm taking some time off."
"He was real proud of you. He talked about you all the time," Jerry explained.
"He did?" Sam asked surprised.
"You bet he did."
"Of course he did Sammy, you were probably the best thing that ever happened to your Father," Lucifer chimed in.
"I got something that I want you guys to hear," Jerry stated as he played the recording from the flight.
"Mayday, Mayday," they heard and then a deep growling sound came on the recording.
"The plane crashed 200 miles from here. They are saying mechanical failure. Over 200 on board, only 7 got out alive," Jerry explained.
"We're going to need a list of survivors and passenger manifests, and we're going to need to take a look at the wreckage," Dean explained.
"I can get you all but the wreckage. I don't have that kind of clearance," Jerry explained.
"No problem," Dean stated.
XOXOXO
Dean left the photocopy place with the fake IDs that he had just made and then headed back out to the vehicle.
He sighed as he located Sam puking into the gutter.
"I knew that this was a bad idea," Dean stated as he crouched by his brother's side.
"I'm fine Dean," Sam said as he wiped his mouth with his sleeve.
"Mmm hmmm," Dean commented as he placed his hand on Sam's forehead.
"Stop," Sam sighed.
"Your fever says otherwise," Dean stated.
"I want to work," Sam stated.
"I'll make you a deal. You can help with the investigation side of it only, but as long as you have a fever and puking then you're going to leave the actual hunting to me," Dean stated.
"I'm not going to leave you to hunt whatever this is on your own," Sam stated.
"Fine, then we'll go back to Bobby's, and some other hunters can take this the way they should have to begin with," Dean stated as he started the ignition and pulled away.
"Fine, you got yourself a deal," Sam grumbled. He would just have to follow Dean after the investigation was done and he left to go hunting.
"That will never work. Your brother is too good a hunter to be followed without noticing," Lucifer commented.
"Do you have a better idea, because I'm not leaving my brother to this on his own?" Sam thought.
"I might. Help your brother with his investigation while I think through some things," Lucifer stated and then went silent.
"Were you able to check out the recording while I was in there?" Dean asked.
"Yes, listen to this," Sam stated as he replayed the recording.
"No survivors," they heard through the growl.
"What's that supposed to mean? There were 7 survivors," Dean stated.
"Got me," Sam stated.
"Do you think it's a haunted flight?" Dean asked.
"Not exactly," Lucifer chimed in.
"Then what?" Sam thought.
"A Demon," Lucifer explained.
"Maybe, but I think it could be a Demon," Sam explained to Dean.
"Hmmm, I got a list of survivors. Any idea who we should talk to first?" Dean asked.
"3rd on the list, Max Chap," Sam stated.
"Why him?" Dean asked.
"He's from around here and if anyone saw anything weird it would be him."
"What makes you say that?"
"I spoke with his mother and he checked himself into a psychiatric hospital," Sam explained.
XOXOXO
"I don't understand. I've already spoken with Homeland Security," Max stated as the brothers walked around the garden with him.
"We just have a few more questions. Just before the plane went down, did you notice anything unusual?" Sam asked as they sat at a table.
"No."
"Don't believe him, Sam, he's lying," Lucifer stated.
"Why did you check yourself in here?" Sam asked.
"I was a little stressed. I survived a plane crash."
"And that's what terrified you? That's what you were afraid of?" Dean asked.
"I don't want to talk about this anymore."
"I think you did see something up there. We need to know what," Sam stated.
"No, I must have been delusional, seeing things."
"Just tell us what you thought you saw," Sam pleaded.
"There was this man that had black eyes and I thought that I saw him open the emergency exit. I couldn't have seen that because there's like 2 tons of pressure on that door."
"Did he appear and disappear like a mirage?" Dean asked.
"What are you nuts? He was a passenger. He was sitting right in front of me," he stated.
"Thank you for your time," Sam stated as he and Dean left.
XOXOXO
"My husband George was headed to a convention in Denver. He was petrified to fly, and for him to go like that," she explained as she wiped her tears.
"How long were you married?" Sam asked, wanting to find out if he was a demon or had just recently been possessed by one.
"13 years."
"In all that time, did you ever notice anything strange about him?" Sam asked.
"He had acid reflux if that's what you mean," she stated.
"It's the fear Sam. Demons can use fear to worm their way in and once inside they can do whatever they want," Lucifer explained.
"Thank you for your time," Sam said as he and Dean left.
"It doesn't make any sense. We should check out the wreckage," Dean stated as they drove away.
"Sam, I need some time to talk to you. I think it would be best if you went to sleep for a little bit," Lucifer suggested.
"Dean, I know it's bad timing, but can we check out the wreckage tomorrow? I'm just not feeling well enough to go," Sam pleaded.
"Of course Sammy," Dean stated as he turned around to go to the hotel.
XOXOXO
As soon as they got to the hotel, Sam lay down and fell asleep. Dean went to the restroom and grabbed a hand towel. He ran it under cold water and then brought it to his brother. Sam still had a fever. Dean wasn't sure how high it had gotten, just that he was hot to the touch. He laid the cold cloth over Sam's forehead. He was worried about Sammy. This sudden bout of sickness was just one more thing, one more reason to worry. He knew that Sam had been troubled, hiding something since he had picked him up from school and Dean sensed that this illness that had come over him wasn't just the flu like his brother claimed. He went to the 24-hour emergency kit and pulled out a thermometer. He temporarily removed the washcloth and ran the thermometer across his brother's forehead. He sighed as he saw 104 degrees on the window. That was a high fever. He debated picking him up in his arms and driving him to the Emergency Room, but he knew that Sam would hate that.
"Damnit Sammy, if your fever gets any higher, I'll have to take you in. I know that you hate hospitals, always have, but I'm not going to just sit here and do nothing while this illness, whatever it is, kills you," Dean whispered as he lay the washcloth back over Sam's forehead.
Dean left Sam's side to answer the door.
"What are you doing here?" Dean asked.
"I was worried about Sam. I haven't spoken to him in a few days and I wanted to see how he was doing," Cas stated as he walked into the hotel room.
"How did you even know that we were here?" Dean asked.
"How is Sam doing? How high is his fever?" Cas asked ignoring Dean's other question. He walked over to Sam's bed and looked down at him sleeping.
"104 degrees," Dean stated.
"The washcloth should help, but if it gets any higher maybe an ice bath," Cas suggested as he frowned.
"If it gets any higher, I'll have to take him to the Emergency Room," Dean whispered.
"No, you and I can take care of Sammy," Cas said adamantly.
"I believe that you care about him. I can see it in your eyes. Please…I know that you know more. That you know what Sam is hiding from me. Please tell me," Dean pleaded.
"I can't. I promised Sam and I keep my promises."
"I appreciate that you want to be loyal to him, but at what cost? Is your loyalty worth his life?"
"I will never let any harm come to you or your brother," Cas promised.
"Will you stay here and watch over him? I need some time…I need to get some air," Dean stated.
"Sammy will always be safe with me," Cas stated.
Dean grabbed the keys. He took one last look at Sam and then he walked out.
XOXOXO
"Sammy, your wings are breathtaking," Lucifer stated as they came face to face.
"You can see them? What do they look like?"
"Right now, they are white, but I suspect that will change as they continue to grow."
"What did you want to tell me?" Sam asked.
"I have a proposed solution to help you continue to hunt with Dean while you are dealing with the side effects of your wings."
"What?" Sam asked.
"I know of a transference spell, however, like all dark magic, it comes at a cost. It should be possible for me to transfer my shadow to you. I don't think that it would even be possible if we weren't two halves of the same whole, but even so, there's still a price to pay," Lucifer explained.
"What price? Will it kill me?" Sam asked.
"No, I would never propose anything that would lead to your death. My shadow carries some of my power, when I transfer it to you, it will leave me powerless and exhausted."
"Will it hurt you?" Sam asked.
"No, I will just be exhausted, and I most likely won't have enough power to communicate with you. On the flip side, when my shadow comes back to me, all of your energy will be depleted. I would recommend spacing apart hunts so that you can recover your energy. Since you are dealing with sickness, the loss of energy may be enough to place you in a temporary coma, but it will not be enough to be deadly," Lucifer answered.
"That covers the cost, but how will your shadow help with the hunt?" Sam asked.
"Every Angel's temperature is different. I run a little cold, I suspect that you will be on the hot side since your temperature has been rising. My shadow's cold temperature should be enough to counteract your fever. My shadow's healing power can temporarily help with the nausea as well."
"Is this transference a possession?"
"No, it won't enter your body or your mind. It will just be your shadow. I know that this is a lot so I'll leave the decision up to you. Do you want to cast the transference spell?"
"I don't want to hurt you."
"Don't worry about me. If I wasn't in the equation would you cast the spell to help your brother on the hunt?"
"Yes, I can't leave my brother to fight the supernatural on his own."
"Okay, I'll send my shadow to you tonight. It's a simple spell so you should be able to get the necessary ingredients when you wake up," Lucifer stated.
"Thanks, Luci," Sam stated.
"No problem Sammy," Lucifer stated and then he disappeared as Sam woke up.
XOXOXO
Sam gasped as he woke up. Cas was pulling him up out of a tub filled with ice. His hair and clothes were soaked and he was freezing.
"What's, what's, what's going on?" Sam stuttered as he shivered uncontrollably.
Cas wrapped a towel around him.
"Your temperature was 108 degrees. I had to bring it down fast or risk you getting brain damage. I'm not sure if the high temperature would lead to brain death since you are becoming an Angel, but I didn't want to risk it as you are also still human," Cas explained.
"Thanks, Cas," Sam stuttered.
"Let's get you into warm, dry clothes," Cas stated as he lifted the wet shirt over Sam's head.
"Where's Dean?" Sam asked as he stepped out of his wet pants into a pair of sweatpants.
"He left…he needed some time to think. He's worried about you Sam. I think that you need to tell him," Cas stated as Dean walked in.
"Tell me what? What happened? Why are you all wet?" Dean asked.
"Ice bath to help bring down my temperature. I think it…" Sam started to say, but then he lunged for the toilet and started puking.
"Maybe, we should talk about taking you to the hospital again," Dean stated.
"Everything that they would do there, we are already doing. Your brother is in good hands," Cas stated as he went to Sam's side and held back his hair as he puked.
"Yeah, you're probably right. I just hate seeing you this way," Dean stated.
"It's temporary. Dean, I know that you just got back, but could you go and get me some Sprite? I think that it will help with the nausea," Sam stated.
"I'm way ahead of you Sammy. I left the groceries in the back seat. I'll go and get them," Dean said and then walked out of the room.
Sam stood up and walked to the dresser on the side of his bed and grabbed a paper and pen. He scribbled down the list of ingredients and then handed the paper to Cas.
"Will you get me these items before Midnight?" Sam asked.
"Shouldn't be a problem. What is it for?" Cas asked.
"Lucifer is going to transfer his shadow to me so I can hunt with Dean," Sam explained.
"That will make your symptoms worse," Cas whispered as he looked at Sam, concern etched on his face.
"I know, but it's necessary for now. There's no other way and Luci said that it won't kill me," Sam explained.
"It seems that you've already made up your mind. Just be careful," Cas stated. He walked over to Sam, hugged him, and then walked out the door.
XOXOXO
Sam mixed the ingredients in the bowl. He cut his hand with his pocket knife and dripped the required blood into the bowl.
"I'm cutting my hand now, so my shadow should bleed the necessary Grace," Lucifer stated.
Sam placed the bowl below the shadow's hand.
"We'll say the words of the spell together, but you may not hear from me again. When you are finished with the hunt say the spell in reverse and that will return my shadow to me," Lucifer stated.
Sam read the words of the spell, there was a flash of lightning across the overhead skies and then Lucifer's shadow had become his shadow.
"How are you feeling?" Cas asked as he grabbed the bandanna from his back pocket and wrapped Sam's hand with it.
"Better than I did before. I think my fever is gone," Sam stated.
"It's gone for now," Cas stated as he placed his hand on Sam's forehead.
"Don't look so worried. This is going to work out and I'll be fine," Sam stated.
"I hope that you're right, but even so I think that I'll tag along on the hunt with you and Dean tomorrow. I'll be invisible, but would feel better if I was there to keep an eye on things," Cas stated.
"Thanks, Cas. I'm going to head inside and read," Sam stated as he headed back into the hotel room.
XOXOXO
"Good morning sunshine. How are you feeling?" Dean asked.
"Much better. My fever's gone and so is my nausea. Looks like I'll be able to finish hunting this one with you," Sam explained.
"We'll see about that," Dean said as he placed his hand on Sam's forehead. "Hmmm, I guess it was just a stomach bug after all," Dean added as he removed his hand. Sam was right, the fever was all gone, but he couldn't shake the feeling that things were far from okay for his little brother, and then he noticed the bandana wrapped around his hand. "What happened to your hand, Sammy?" Dean asked.
"I fell last night and cut it, but it didn't even need stitches," Sam stated. "Do you want to go check out the wreckage?" Sam asked wanting to change the subject away from him.
"I already did. I think that you are right about it being a demon. There was sulfur on the handle of the plane," Dean explained.
"Last night, I couldn't sleep so I did some research on Demons. According to Japanese beliefs, certain demons are behind certain disasters, both natural and man-made. One causes earthquakes, another one causes disease," Sam explained.
"And this one causes plane crashes?" Dean asked.
"Yep. Who knows how many planes it's brought down."
"I wish Dad was here to help us with this one," Dean stated.
Sam didn't say anything. He couldn't…his feelings about his dad had always been complicated and now, it was just so much worse. He missed his dad, but sometimes he wondered if it was a blessing in disguise that they hadn't found him. His dad would have figured out that Sam wasn't just human and maybe would have even tried to kill him for it.
"The pilot that survived the plane crash died in another crash. I think that the Demon is targeting the ones that survived. We need to go investigate that crash," Dean stated.
"Where?" Sam asked.
"Nazareth," Dean explained.
XOXOXO
"Sulfur again?" Dean asked.
Jerry just nodded his head in acknowledgment. He couldn't believe that Chuck was dead.
"Chuck's plane went down exactly 40 minutes into the flight, just like the other flight," Sam explained. "I checked and there have been six flights that have crashed 40 minutes into the flight over the last decade," Sam added.
"I think this Demon won't stop until there are no survivors. We need to find a way to save them, Sammy," Dean stated.
"I know," Sam whispered.
They got back in the car and Sam called all the survivors while Dean drove. None of them were planning on flying again except for the flight attendant Amanda Walker.
"I checked and she's scheduled for a flight at 8:00 AM In Minneapolis," Sam stated.
"Looks like we'll be pulling an all-nighter," Dean stated as he pressed his foot down giving his Baby a little bit more speed.
"Do you think that we'll make it in time?" Sam asked as he looked at his watch.
"We'll make it," Dean said.
XOXOXO
They ran through the airport and tracked down the flight, but they were running out of time and options.
"We have no other choice, we have to get on that plane," Sam stated.
"We…we can't," Dean stammered as he nervously fidgeted.
"We have no other choice, we need to get on that plane, find the Demon, and exorcise it or this plane is going to crash and 350 people are going to die."
"I know, it's just…I have a little problem with heights," Dean whispered.
"You're joking, right?" Sam asked. Dean had always been the fearless one. He honestly didn't think that his brother was afraid of anything.
"Do I look like I'm joking? Why do you think that I drive everywhere Sam?" Dean asked. The look on his face portrayed pure terror.
"Alright, I'll go. I'll do this one on my own," Sam offered.
"I can't…you've been sick."
"I'm all better now and I've got this one if you need me to."
"Are you nuts? You said it yourself, the planes going to crash," Dean stated. As scared as he was, he couldn't let Sam go alone. If the plane crashed and Sammy died alone, he would never forgive himself.
"We can do this together or I can do this myself. I'm not seeing a third option here."
"I know…we'll do this together," Dean whispered.
XOXOXO
"Just try to relax," Sam coached Dean.
"Shut up," Dean spat out as he leaned his head back into the seat. Every muscle tensed as the plane lifted off of the ground. He tightened his seat belt and began to hum Metalica. It was his go-to for getting rid of anxiety.
"Is that Metallica?" Sam asked as he looked at his brother.
"It calms me down," Dean explained and then went back to humming.
"Look, I know you're nervous, but you got to stay focused," Sam stated.
"Ok," Dean stated.
"We got 32 minutes and counting to track this Demon down and commit a full-on exorcism," Sam explained further.
"It's a crowded plane, that's going to be easy," Dean complained.
"One step at a time. Who would this thing possess?" Sam asked. He missed Lucifer's voice in his head. If he could still hear the Dark Angel, he would have already known who the damn Demon was possessing.
"It's usually somebody with some sort of weakness, that the Demon can work its way in through. Somebody with an addiction or some other emotional distress."
"This is Amanda's first flight after the crash. If I were her, I would be messed up," Sam speculated.
"I'll go talk to Amanda and get a read on her mental state."
"What if she's already possessed?" Sam asked.
"I brought Holy Water," Dean said as he pulled a bottle out of his bag.
"No," Sam said as he grabbed the water out of his brother's hand. We need to be more subtle. Use the name of God, Christo, against her," Sam stated.
"I'm on it Sammy," Dean stated and then he stood up and headed to the back of the plane.
XOXOXO
Dean walked quickly back to Sam and applied his seatbelt.
"Well?" Sam asked looking at him for answers.
"She's got to be the most adjusted person on the planet. It's not her Sammy," Dean stated.
"It can be anyone," Sam said as he looked around at the other passengers. Hunting was easier when his Dark Angel was helping him. He knew he had his shadow with him, but it wasn't the same. He felt connected to the shadow beneath him, but alone at the same time. He hated this.
"Come on, that can't be normal," Dean spat out as they hit turbulence.
"It's just a little turbulence," Sam explained in the most gentle, comforting voice he could use. He needed to see Dean through this hunt. He had to stop thinking about and missing Lucifer and focus on finding that Demon before the plane crashed.
"Sam, this plane is going to freaking crash, so quit treating me like I'm freaking four," Dean stated, clearly annoyed at the situation.
"You need to calm down," Sam stated, using the same gentle voice.
"Well, I'm sorry, but I can't," Dean said anxiously.
"Yes, you can."
"Dude, stow the touchy, feeling, yoga crap. It's not helping," Dean stated angrily.
"Dean, your panic is going to leave you wide open for Demonic possession, so you need to calm yourself down right now," Sam stated firmly.
Dean exhaled slowly, trying to ease his anxiety as he sat back in his seat.
"Good," Sam stated. "I found an exorcism in here that I think will work."
"What do we have to do?"
"It's two parts, the first part expels the Demon from the victim's body, but it makes it more powerful."
"How?" Dean asked.
"Well, it wouldn't need to possess anybody anymore. It can just wreak havoc on its own."
"And the second part?" Dean asked not liking the first part.
"Sends the bastard back to Hell once and for all."
"Now, you're talking Sammy," Dean said.
"We still need to find it," Sam stated.
"Right," Dean agreed as he looked around him.
Dean released the safety of his seatbelt and scanned the aisles, listening for any disturbance.
"Did you find anything?" Sam asked as he joined Dean.
"No. How much time is left?"
"15 Minutes," Sam answered.
Dean's machine started to beep as the co-pilot left the restroom.
"Cristo," Dean stated.
The pilot turned back around, revealing his black eyes. They landed on Sam and paused. "How is it possible? He's not quite freed from his cage, but my Master is with you just the same," He stated as he continued to stare at Sam.
"What?" Dean asked with concern as he looked at his brother.
"If he's with you, it's for a reason, I trust that he will keep you safe from the crash, but there can be no other survivors," the Demon stated as he went back into the cockpit and locked the door behind him.
"What the hell was that about?" Dean asked, his frustration and fear more present than Sam had heard from his brother in a long time.
"I don't know. Demons lie," Sam stated, lying to his brother.
Well, somebody sure is," Dean stated as he gave Sam a pointed look.
XOXOXO
Dean and Sam convinced Amanda to bring the co-pilot to the back of the plane.
"What's the problem?" The co-pilot asked as he was brought back to the plane. Dean swept his knees out from under him and pinned him to the ground, placing tape over his mouth so that the Demon inside of him wouldn't escape.
Sam started to read the exorcism as he sprayed Holy Water on the Demon. The Demon kicked the Holy Water from Sam's hand.
Sam didn't know why or how he knew what to do, perhaps it was Lucifer's shadow, but he placed his hand over the Demon's heart.
The Demon screamed as his essence began to escape him. He continued to say the words of the Exorcism.
The Demon managed to free one of his arms and removed the tape covering his arms.
"Master, do you mean to take me back to hell?" The Demon asked.
"G trian zacam darsar g can't bring anymore teloc q quansb," Sam answered. He recognized the words coming out of his mouth as Enochian. They were his words, but Sam sensed that they came from Lucifer.
The Demon left the co-pilot and got into the vents of the plane.
The plane spiraled downwards as Sam continued the exorcism. He finished saying the words of the Exorcism, felt the electrical currency as the plane was struck with Lightning. The plane stabilized. Sam sensed that the Demon was gone.
XOXOXO
"Let's get out of here," Dean stated as they left the airport. He was determined to never set foot on a plane again. "Are you okay?" Dean asked as he looked at Sam.
"I'm fine," Sam said as he continued to walk towards Baby.
"The Demon called you his Master. He sensed that there was something else with you, Sammy."
"I'm not possessed, Dean," Sam said and then took a swig of the Holy Water to prove it. "These things get inside your mind and they lie," Sam stated when he finished.
"Yeah, come on, let's get back to the hotel," Dean stated. He knew that something wasn't right with his brother. Even if he wasn't possessed, there was something very wrong with Sam and he was determined to find out what.
XOXOXO
Dean hated spying on his brother, but what choice did he have? His kid brother hadn't been the same since he picked him up from school. There were times when Dean caught him speaking a dead language that hadn't been used in thousands of years. He had been so sick and then the illness seemed to disappear just as quickly as it had appeared and now this Demon claimed that there was someone that he called Master with him. He had practically begged Sammy for answers, but so far his kid brother wasn't talking.
Dean followed Sam outside but kept a distance. He watched as Sam threw some contents into a bowl. He watched as Sam slid a knife across his hand and bled into the very same bowl. It looked as if Sam was casting some kind of spell, but what? They had already concluded their hunt. Dean was too far away that he couldn't hear the words that Sam spoke, but there was a blue light. His shadow that was cast seemed to get very big and then disappeared altogether and then his brother collapsed, or he would have if Cas, didn't appear out of nowhere, just in time to catch him before he hit his head.
"What is going on?" Dean called out, but there was no one there. Sam and Cas had both disappeared from his sight, but he knew what he had seen.
"I know that you have questions, but I can't betray your brother's confidence, but I also won't take your memories from you. When you wake up, I suggest that you talk to Sam," Cas stated and then placed his fingers on his forehead.
Dean felt suddenly tired and he couldn't keep his eyes open. He closed them giving over to the darkness.
