As they sat there contemplating the Doctor pulls out his wallet. This shouldn't have existed here. This didn't belong here. The question now would be how he even got this.
"Why are you looking at your wallet? It's empty isn't it?" Taylor asked bewildered at what the Doctor was doing.
"It's not empty darlin'. In fact it has a very powerful tool in it. Something that will definitely change the scale on how we operate as a team." The Doctor explained as he showed her the wallet. This time something actually was in it. The Doctor was part of the PRT? No, what was happening? That didn't sound right. She looked at him and saw a shark-like grin that slightly annoyed her. She looked back at the wallet and was looking at a blank piece of paper. Alarmed, she gave him a look, hoping he didn't master her. Realizing the implications of what he was doing he quickly put the wallet away and gave her a sheepish smile. "Before you get mad I wasn't mastering you. That was psychic paper."
"Psychic paper?" She raised her eyebrow at that.
"Correct. Let me explain." He had adopted a sort of teaching position with his hands in the air in an over-exaggerated manner. He had a crazed look in his eyes. Taylor wondered if he would do this every time he would explain something. "Psychic paper, when shown to a person, allows them to see whatever the user wished them to see printed on it. Used to gain entrance to places and I could use it so strangers can trust me easier. Doesn't work on geniuses. Shame. Remind me not to use it on tinkers."
To Taylor that sounded incredibly useful. She saw him change to a more serious look.
"The problem is Taylor, is that this shouldn't be with me period. This was made by the Celestial Intervention Agency, an organization that served directly with the High Council of Time Lords."
"What's wrong with that?"
"Because the Timelords do not exist anymore. I am one of the last two surviving Timelords in existence. And what that means is that someone put that in my pocket. Someone who knows my identity and what I am."
The mood in the room went down as the result of such knowledge. Taylor looks at the Doctor in a new light. He was the last of a species of aliens that could travel through time and space. This was crazy. She was offloading some of her emotions into the swarm but knew that given time, she was going to feel everything about this situation. Her thoughts were interrupted when the Doctor claps his hands loudly, the shark-like grin back on his face.
"Well now that mystery will have to go unsolved for now. No use moping around getting sad for ourselves. Let's go."
"Huh? Go? Go where?" Taylor looked flabbergasted at the Doctor. Was this going to be a normal occurrence?
"What's the most important thing in the world?"
"Um, money?"
"Wrong! I need a new wardrobe darlin'. Oh- oh is there a junkyard around here? I need my sonic Taylor! Oh! Maybe we can get some trinkets too. Maybe some food too. Taylor there's just so many things we could do." He was starting to ramble and started jumping up and down like an excited kid.
Taylor started to develop a deadpanned expression. Sighing she grabbed his hand making him stop abruptly. All she had to do was utter three words.
"With. What. Money?" She gave him a sickly sweet smile that had an underlying tone of no nonsense. His mouth opened and closed like a fish. He looked perplexed for only a moment then lit up with a fervor.
"The junkyard should have all I need when it comes to equipment. Do you know of any areas where junked tinkertech will be?"
Taylor gave him a thoughtful look.
"Tinkertech? You can do something with tinkertech?"
"Once I lay my eyes on it, I can surely fix them or modify them in any way I please. My brain is complex in its thinking. So do you?"
"Yes. Uber and Leet drop off their useless tinkertech in a yard near the docks. We can go now but we have to leave now so we can get home before it gets dark. I'm going to get dressed. Wait by the door."
Being by himself the Doctor looked around the living room. It was certainly lived in unlike his house. The pictures on the wall painted a story. A sad one no doubt. Of a little black haired girl with a normal mom and dad. Of the girl with a redheaded friend smiles a plenty. Through the years getting older. The mother stopped appearing about two years ago it seems. No more redhead friend. No more smiles. A tale as old as time. The death of a parent is always a sad one. He wondered if he had parents. Contemplating like this should never be a focus for him. He would definitely bring back the smiles. Just when the Doctor was going to go off on another mind adventure Taylor came back down the stairs in clothes that could get dirty. It was the beginning of the afternoon so they should have plenty of time. Giving her a playful smile he opened the front door for her and they were on their way.
Humanity was so interesting in his memories. Looking at Taylor, he realized she was interesting. Bug powers. The applications of such an ability were dancing in his head running wild. The amount of aliens that could affect was astounding. Like the Vespiform. Vespiforms were a species of insectoids which resembled oversized wasps. Adults were about three meters tall. They were powerful creatures, with large stingers which could be regrown within hours of use. The Doctor wondered if she could control them. It might be impossible though thinking about deeper. They were shapeshifters and they were intelligent lifeforms. Was size a factor too or was it the brain he should focused on.
It leads him to the planet Bliss and their piranha-locusts. Oh maybe the kiseibya as well. His favorites were perhaps the Menoptera and their impossibility of flight. The possibilities were endless in their applications. Just as the Doctor was having an extensive brain journey Taylor was thinking less harder in its capacity. She couldn't believe it. Her life was starting to take a turn for the better. She could feel it. Just as they were turning a corner she saw something green flash through the window to the store next to her that they were walking by. She looked back in a hurry but found nothing out of the ordinary. But as she was about to look away something whispered out to her.
"Ravenous"
A chill ran down her spine at such a whisper that she could barely hear. Imperceptible in any form. She was about to step forward to hear better when a hand came down on her shoulder yelping in fright at the touch. She spun around to look at the Doctor giving a apologetic smile to her.
"I didn't mean to frighten you Taylor, it's just that you stopped. Something wrong darlin'?" Worry etched into his eyes. Shaking her head she gave him a small smile.
"It was nothing I must be extremely tired to be hearing things. Come let's continue." She said as she started to pick up the pace.
Unbeknownst to the both of them a face popped out behind the window with a sickening grin. Behind the face lay a pair of bodies stripped of their flesh. Picked clean if you will. Hastily eaten in a macabre fashion.
"I'm so Ravenous"
The Doctor was grinning like an absolute madman. Taylor off to the side wide eyed at what she was seeing. The Doctor hopping around in joy as he dug through the junkyard. He picked up a mask examining it closely x-ray vision huh. Taking out some components he threw the rest of the mask away. What looks to be a decommissioned sonic accelerator. Ha he was having a field day. Taking hold of a scarf he found he wrapped it around his neck.
"What do you think about a scarf?" he asked sincerely.
Hideous. Taylor thought it was the ugliest thing she laid her eyes on. "It's ratty looking. It doesn't match anything about you." She had to lay it all gently to him. He takes it off to scrutinize it. He grimaces slightly.
"Your right. Scarf's are so yesteryear. Oh! This phase rifle still has a coil piece. Excellent." Rummaging through the junkyard was always good fun. Let's see a Shadozer let's see turns user into a shadow. Useless. You couldn't turn it back on. Taylor started to pilfer and came up with a laser pistol. She tosses it over to the Doctor who thanks her and takes it apart. Shuffling noises could be heard to left of her behind a car. She sent her bugs to investigate and found nothing out of the ordinary. The Doctor was absolutely covered in scrap. She had no idea where he was putting all this stuff he collected. They both stopped when they heard they heard the shuffling sounds again. The Doctor looks at her with wariness. Her bugs came back with nothing again. Chills were running down her spine as the Doctor got up from his spot with unnatural seriousness.
"Ravenous. Oh so ravenous." The voice was back louder with a deep baritone with a scratchiness in the back of it's throat. Taylor was worried now because she saw something in the car in the driver's seat. It was a clown with sickly green hair and clear white eyes as if it was blind. The white make-up and red lipstick painted a sharp contrast to his sharp pointed shark like teeth. Taylor couldn't explain it but just looking at this thing made her shake something fierce. Where did it come from? It wasn't even sparing her glance as it stared at the Doctor like he was a piece. One look at the Doctor could tell he was terrified beyond belief; a brave face still plastered on.
"Doctor. What is that?" The clown looked at her when she spoke hunger still in it's eyes yet curious about something.
"The Ravenous. A species that was formerly known as the Kolstani. Known for feeding on Timelords. A species that should have been destroyed a long time ago." The Ravenous turned to the Doctor with seething hatred in its face.
"The Doctor. The oncoming storm." The clown snarls. "You are not him. Your time is too young. A time child that I would be happy to feast on. The humans are not good. You will be delicious." As he lifted his hands to show the razor sharp claws it possessed, it let out a horrific shriek that seemed to send fear deep into the very essence of their souls. That when it started to shake an elongate. It grew skinnier and four more arms. It's mouth seemed to widen as its teeth grew ever sharper. "Once I am finished with devouring you I will go back to the Beyond. We will come back." It was still growing when the Doctor grabbed ahold of Taylor's.
"This is when we run Taylor!" They started sprinting out of there as fast as the fear shook Taylor to her core.
"Doctor where are we going!?" The shriek grew ever more louder as seemingly every animal in the city started to cry out barking and whimpering at the sheer terror the Ravenous seemed to induce.
"I hate to say it but back to your place. There's nowhere in the city that could protect us from him." She did not like that answer one bit and was going to say something then stopped at what he was doing. He was making something out of the pistol she gave him. It needed to be something incredibly good.
"What about my bugs? I can have them swarm him. Or the PRT?" She asked in desperation.
"No can do. No bug could ever harm him. Human weapons can't land a scratch on him either. Entirely useless to rely on anything like that. The only thing that could kill it a negative charge of Artron energy." It looked like what he was working on was almost complete. The shriek was getting closer as loud hurried stomping ran through the streets.
"Where is that at!?" Her hope in getting out alive was dwindling by the second. The animals were roaring and the people were getting scared.
"I no earthly idea. It doesn't exist here." Just as she was about to retort with something he tackled her out of the way as a swing from a claw was cascading down on her. The visage of the creature stuck out at an abnormal 9ft tall as its skinny arms coiled with a threatening pose. It was going to lash out again when the Doctor fired his pistol into the ground. What the hell was he doing? What happened is that the Doctor had made a quicksand gun. The Ravenous was slowly getting sucked into the ground shrieking and flailing wildly. The Doctor pulled Taylor by the hand.
"Come on that only slowed him down!"
They were off again and Taylor thanked God that we were almost there but she could here that thing slowly gaining on them.
"Shit! Change of plans! Go into my house. It's closer." The Doctor frantically said as he smashed through his front door. Hauling up the stairs they were in the Doctors room and he shut the door and opened his closet for something. What he found was extraordinary.
Bigger on the inside. Gothic interior with hardwood floors. A throw rug of to the side with a couch bed and bookshelf behind it against the wall. The wall were built like a old roman cathedral. The console was a mixture of gold metals and dark wood. The doodads were all in the same places. The large pipe in the middle glowed a soft red color. Lived in with comfort in mind. Looking up he could see the gorgeousness of the stars and the entire universe. She was perfect in every single way. This Tardis was amazing. And he had just found a way to beat Giggles back there. Taking Taylor by the hand he lead her inside and shut the doors behind her. She stopped cold looking around in wonder and awe.
"Oh my God." She had whispered tears of wonder pricked at her eyes basking in the glory. It was so beautiful. The Doctor hurried to the console and lightly caressed it. She sung to him in righteous glee.
"She's wonderful isn't she?"
"She?"
He rushes and pulls and pushes various doodads and buttons. "I'll save the introductions for later. I have clown to put down." It was banging on the shields trying to absorb the energy of the Tardis. Can't have that now can we? Pulling a lever down the Doctor smiles in triumph. The Artron energy flows like a wave as it rushes out of the Tardis. Once it hits the Ravenous it starts to tremble in an emotion it hasn't felt in some time. Fear. Not since the time of Rassilon as it felt true fear. It was dying. It was in agony. The death throes of the creature sang out across the city terrifying any who heard it. Lung for the first time since his fight with Leviathan as he shook that much. Coil looked to become worse in his paranoia, scared to ever go face to face with something that could scream like that. The PRT was in worse state. The kid heroes refused to go out on patrol for the night and the adults couldn't blame them. The city was in shambles and they had no idea why. Only two people knew.
"We did it Taylor! Yes!" The Doctor lifted Taylor up in the air by the waist and spun her around causing her to yelp in joy. The smile on her face returned as bright as it could be. She was panting in exhaustion when he put her down she almost fell to her knees but he was there holding her with that maniacal grin on his face. She looks around in pure wonder. That was exhilarating. She looks at the console as the room itself was alive.
"So, introductions?" She asks with a wide smile.
"Ah yes introductions. This is the Tardis. Time And Relative Dimensions In Space. She is a time machine and a spacecraft and she is so gorgeous. The definition of bigger on the inside, the Tardis can have as many rooms as she wants. I just want to explore her don't you. The question is however is how she got here? I do love a good mystery darlin'. Now say hello she's sentient after all." The Doctor explained with that dorky teaching pose he had. Taylor looks at the Tardis in awe.
"Hello Tardis." She softly said and the Tardis seemed to respond by singing in the air.
"Well now how was your first treat at saving the world?"
"It was exhausting but if we didn't deal with that now it would have hurt a lot of people. I know we did the right thing. Killing him I mean. I don't feel really good about doing it if I'm being honest." She states. The Doctor motioned her to the couch bed and the both sigh in relief as they sit next to each other awfully close. Taylor blushes at the contact but notes the seriousness in the Doctors expression.
"I agree I don't like killing either. Sometimes though when it comes to saving a person or people and the individual we have to kill is awful in every conceivable way. Well it's an easy choice for me to make. I am not the person who participated in the Time War. Those come from the memories of a man who was forced to commit an atrocity that he hated with his entire being. I am not that person. Sure I'll try diplomacy first. Everyone deserves a chance. If they are truly horrendous they will get no mercy from me. I protect the people important to me." As they sat there in a silence Taylor took his hand in hers and gave it squeeze. She looks at him with a sad smile.
"Don't worry I'll save you from that part of yourself." The Doctor was touched by her thoughtfulness and that maniacal grin returned stronger than ever.
"So what your saying is that you'll join me?"
"Yes I will you dope."
"Alright but first I need a better wardrobe Taylor!"
The deadpanned expression returned with a vengeance.
