The night after they first met Zach and Jason, Wulf and Rena were out in the city trying to scope out any rogue Digimon. Wulf thought it was neat meeting the two, and he got to see Rena kick more butt in that BattleSphere program. However, he did wonder why Rena lied about why she was in Halcyon.
The two stood on top of a building. Wulf yawned and pulled his phone out of his pocket to check the time. 1:37 AM, Tuesday, September 10.
Rena stood on the rooftop's edge, looking down below and off into the skyline. She was sure to try her best to detect any suspicious activity.
Wulf walked up behind her, having been scoping out on the other side of the roof, although not as focused as Rena was. "Uh, Rena? How long do we have to do this?".
"Perhaps a few more hours. If a rogue Digimon does appear, it's generally one in a night, so we can head home after we defeat one. This is my first night patrolling the city with you, so I'm testing to see how you can keep up with this. If you feel tired, I can take you home." She told him, her back still turned as her crystal blue eyes continued to focus on the city skyline.
"No, it's alright. I want to stay by your side and help you, Rena. Also, there is something else I want to know." He spoke.
"Oh? What is that, Wulf?" she asked, back still turned.
"Earlier today, you told people like Zach and Jason that you arrived recently in Halcyon, but you've told me you have been here for ten years. You also didn't tell them that you've fought rogue Digimon in the city, only in the Digital World." Upon hearing this, Rena finally turned her head to face Wulf.
"I would rather not delve into my past with people, and I don't want people to know about the rogue Digimon invading," Rena explained, taking one foot off the edge of the roof.
"Why not?" As Wulf inquired, Rena finally stepped off the edge and turned her body to face Wulf.
"Because knowing of all the Digimon invading the city might cause them to panic. I can covertly and quietly take these Digimon out, and no one knows that they even entered the city. In the last ten years, only a few humans managed to either see the pink mist or even rogue Digimon itself. But I don't believe it's enough to convince the city that rogue Digimon attacks are common." She detailed her reasoning some more, turning his back on him and stepping onto the edge once more.
"Ok, that makes sense." Just as he started walking back to the other side of the roof, Rena spotted something off in the distance.
"Always a wonderful sight." Rena sarcastically stated. It was a faint pink mist emerging between the buildings across the skyline.
"Wulf, I see the mist. Are you ready?" She called out to Wulf behind her.
"Uh, I guess so." He stuttered.
Rena approached him and gave him a smirk, putting her hand on his shoulder as she got close. "Do not worry, now that I can digivolve I'm certain whatever I face will stand no chance. Especially when you are at my side."
Hearing this warmed Wulf inside, feeling a flustering feeling as Rena's hand remained on his shoulder. He tried to get a grip on himself to get ready.
"Thank you, I'm ready then." Rena then spread her arms out to the side and without any warning, scooped Wulf up into her arms.
"Hold on tight, Wulf." She told him, his arms wrapping around her neck.
"Please, be careful. I hope I'm not too heavy." He gulped.
"You're fine." Rena then sped off, leaping from rooftop to rooftop with Wulf in her arms.
The mist got bigger and bigger as Rena and Wulf got closer. Eventually, she stood on the edge of a rooftop directly above the mist. It appears the mist was converging in a parking lot sandwiched between two buildings, one of which was the one she and Wulf were on.
"I'm going to jump down. Be prepared, Wulf." Rena instructed him.
"Jump down? Uh, but what if- "He sighed. "Alright, go for it."
Rena jumped down as Wulf held tighter onto her, his eyes completely shut. As he felt the blood rush from the sensation of falling, he eventually felt a thud, knowing they had landed. He opened his eyes to find themselves surrounded by pink mist.
"See? We're alright." Rena assured him, standing on her feet as her tail swayed against the mist.
Wulf sighed with relief, then got down to his feet. He looked around, it was an average-sized, white-striped concrete parking lot with a few cars parked, all of them average cars, some new and some so old they had seen much better days. Upon hearing a growl, the two looked up to see the rogue Digimon emerging from the mist.
"Ogremon," Rena said, able to recognize the sick and twisted Digimon just from the outline of his body.
Ogremon stepped forward to reveal more of himself. He was a rather unpleasant Digimon to look at, his skin was green and had white spikes protruding from his shoulders and knuckles. He had dirty and greasy long white hair along with horns coming out of his head. His face was hideous, his mouth hanging open showing his sharp teeth and long tongue. On his left bicep was a tattoo of a skull and crossbones, and tightly gripped in his right hand was a long and thick bone club that had spikes protruding from it as well.
The parking lot stood empty, the only inhabitants being Rena, Wulf, and Ogremon. Wulf sighed, hoping everything would go alright for her.
"Please be careful, Rena." He begged her.
Rena only nodded and then smiled, enough to try and reassure him. She assumed a battle-ready pose, as did Ogremon.
She charged at Ogremon, her foot colliding with his buff chest in a kick. Wulf tried to observe her, but her speed was making it difficult for his blue eyes to remain on her form.
As he clenched his hands hoping for Rena's quick victory, the large and brutish Ogremon stumbled around trying to find and get a strike on her. He didn't expect the sharp pain from behind as Rena rammed her elbow into the back of his shoulder and then kneed him in the back.
His muscular knees slumped to the ground, slimy hands clenching out of frustration. Then, just as Rena landed on the concrete behind him, Ogremon swung his bone club behind him, striking Rena and sending her flying into the side of a car.
Ogremon stood and blasted a shot of what looked like dark energy from his hand, launching straight at the dented car Rena was on her knees in front of. The energy engulfed Rena and then caused the car behind her to explode.
Dread washed over his face as Wulf's eyes widened at the explosion. His heart began to contort, horrified at what had just happened.
"Rena!" He shouted in anguish as he rushed from behind the car, giving away his position.
Ogremon turned around, looking down and sighting Wulf. It growled, disgusting saliva dripping from its yellow teeth. It began to walk towards him, its large feet cracking the concrete with each step.
Wulf glanced at Ogremon, but despite his life now being in clear danger, he still stared at the fireball that was now the car. He was far more concerned about Rena's fate than his life. Before Ogremon could kill the boy, the digivice on his belt started to glow.
He unclipped it to look at it, then looked at the flaming car. A surge of bright energy, the opposite of Ogremon's dark energy, lit up from within the flames. Then, Rena emerged from the flames, now digivolved and leaping at Ogremon with a look of determination.
As Wulf smiled wide in relief, Rena smashed Ogremon in the face with a headbutt. He stumbled back and tripped backward over a car. Angered, he planted his club down against the ground and pushed to stand himself back up.
"Dragon Wheel!" Rena wasn't done yet, though, as a fiery blue dragon formed by Rena's flames charged at Ogremon.
The collision was brutal for the green Digimon, his bare skin was badly burned, and he felt a new world of pain. He was weakened, and he knew it, he growled at Rena.
Just then, Ogremon weakly lifted his club to either defend himself or try to attack depending on his opponent's next move. Rena leaped onto the car and off, slashing him with her tails, whose tips were flaming.
Not only was Ogremon's club cut through, but a nasty slash was delivered right across his chest. His angered growls suddenly ceased, and he fell over backward.
His body started to glitch out, dispersing into bits of data. Rena proudly absorbed the data, then felt a hand slide against her right side.
"Great job, Rena! He sure was an ugly one." It was Wulf, congratulating his partner for her victory.
"Thank you for allowing me to reach this stage, I wouldn't be able to do this without you, Wulf." She smiled.
Wulf couldn't help but blush. "Well, you're welcome. I just like seeing you win, and you look beautiful even in this form."
"How kind of you to say that." She didn't realize his true intentions, but Wulf realized he had just called Rena beautiful.
"Uh, yeah." Quickly, he tried to change the subject. "Um, it seems that car got destroyed. What should we do?"
As Rena looked at the flaming car, she knew this wouldn't be something they could hide. The best they could do is anonymously inform someone and then flee, hopefully, it wouldn't come off as too suspicious to the city.
"There wasn't anyone or anything in it, how about you call someone about it and then we can get out of here," Rena told Wulf.
"Good idea." Quickly he got onto her back, ready to head back home with her.
