Welcome back to Elemental Crisis Book II. Last time, the team got to work on tracking down Beth Kane's whereabouts, hoping to figure out where the element of Shadow ended up. While working though, Cynder and Batwoman got into a discussion about Renee Montoya. Batwoman made it clear the detective was probably attracted to Cynder, while Cynder noted it wasn't without hesitation, saying she found it clear that Renee Montoya's heart was "devoted to another". But before they could get any farther into that, the results came clear that Beth Kane possessed the Shadow element herself, and it's likely still with her corpse in the morgue. So Batwoman, Flash, Spyro, and Cynder took off to recover the missing element before Joker can. But will they be in time? Read on to hopefully discover...

(Our scene resumes not following the Batmobile, but instead in a dark alleyway. Don't worry, we're not back in Crime Alley this time. We're on the other side of Gotham this time. And there, Joker and Mad Hatter appear to be interrogating a terrified subject)

Joker: Now, I'm not going to ask again. The Kane girl came here. You saw her and a flash of light. What happened next?

Victim: (Terrified beyond reason) I... I don't remember! I must've been flash blinded!

Joker: (Pulls out her gun) Not good enough.

Mad Hatter: Boss, if I may...

Joker: (Frustrated that she's been taken out of the zone) What do you want?

Mad Hatter: I might be able to convince this one to tell us. (Tips his hat) That's what the hat does after all.

Joker: (Just now remembering that's the case) Well what are you standing around for? Get to work!

(The victim doesn't get a moment to rest, as now Mad Hatter takes over the interrogation.)

Mad Hatter: I must apologize for my friend here. She can be a bit... rough. Now, if you would, please tell us what you can remember about when the Kane girl came through here.

(As Mad Hatter speaks that line, a strange light emits from the top part of the top hat, and soon enough, the victim starts talking)

Victim: Beth Kane came through here looking for someone. I honestly don't know who. But then that dark light came out of the sky and seemingly merged with her. Next thing I know she's sinking into the floor. She panicked for a moment and then ran away, straight through a wall.

Mad Hatter: There, thank you. That wasn't so tough, now was it? (As the hat flashes again)Now, tell us where she was heading.

Victim: She was heading in the direction of Wayne Tower.

Mad Hatter: That should give us all we need.

Joker: Yes. (Shoots the victim in the head, killing them) That will do quite nicely.

(At this moment, Joker is almost enveloped by a dark mist, with a familiar pair of yellow eyes forming in it)

Malefor: Joker, report.

Joker: We've got confirmation that the Kane girl has the Shadow element. I didn't see anything fly out of her when I gunned her down, so chances are it's still with her corpse.

Malefor: Then what are you standing around for? Retrieve it. Now.

Joker: I've already got a man on it. I'll send the Hatter once we hang up, my lord.

Malefor: And what about the Batwoman, or Spyro and Cynder?

Joker: You needn't worry there. My inside agent has tabs on their every move. I know they're on the way too. So you can bet I will be.

Malefor: You had better...

(And with that, the dark mist dissipates, leaving Mad Hatter just plain confused.)

Mad Hatter: Um... boss... what was that?

Joker: None of your business. Now, we need to get moving. The Bat is already heading for the morgue. If they get to the body before we do, we're both doomed.

(With that, Joker and Mad Hatter set off, but just as they do, we catch up with the Batmobile, arriving just outside Gotham City's morgue, with Spyro, Cynder, and Flash not far behind)

Flash: I admit, keeping up with that thing was not as easy as before. Did you work on the engine?

Batwoman: A little tinkering here and there. Nothing too major.

Spyro: So, this is our destination?

Batwoman: Yep. Beth Kane's body is in there somewhere. And the Shadow element with it.

Flash: Now all we've got to do is find it.

Cynder: Leave that to me. I can recognize it's energy signature anywhere.

Batwoman: Well then, lead the way Cynder.

(And as the quartet enters the morgue, our tale ends for today)

And that looks like a good spot to wrap up for now. So, Joker's got more than one villain in her employ, and somebody on the inside apparently. I'm taking guesses as to who it is if anybody's interested in taking a stab at it. Anyways, next time, we get into the morgue and try to locate the Shadow element. And we now know it's a race of two factions. Joker on one side and Batwoman on the other. So, who will get there first? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
