Spock and Jamie Kirk meet by bumping into each other on a Starfleet base.
Spock recognises Jamie Kirk as his T'hy'la after they bump into each other. Jamie fails to mention her surname and the fact she happens to be Captian of the Enterprise. It seems there are many things Spock has to learn about his T'hy'la including how she became Captain of the Enterprise and why the ship has not had a first officer in three years.
Starbase 11
As Spock walks through the corridors of Starbase 11, his mind is preoccupied with the complex calculations he has been working on for the upcoming research presentation. The hum of the station's machinery and the distant chatter of crew members create a familiar, almost meditative background noise.
Rounding a corner near the entrance to the research lab, he collides gently with another very feminine individual. Reflexively, he reaches out to steady her, and as their hands touch, an unexpected wave of familiarity and connection surges through him. His usually composed demeanor falters for a moment. He had been told about this feeling as a young boy growing up on Vulcan. Spock never imagined that he might find her - for he did not know if a half-Vulcan like himself would even have a T'hy'la —an ancient Vulcan term that signifies a bond deeper than friendship, encompassing companionship, understanding, and, in some cases, love. He had chosen to study with Starfleet over remaining and researching at the Vulcan Science Academy. The first Vulcan to do so. And now.
The first thing he notices is her blue eyes because as their eyes meet he feels a powerful, undeniable recognition. The second thing he notices is blond hair and how she is precisely seven inches shorter than him. In human years Spock calculates that she is nearly as old as he is.
Blue eyes are gazing at him questionably.
Then he realised he still had her body wrapped up within his grasp.
"Forgive me." Spock clears his throat letting her go whilst his usual Vulcan control battles with the overwhelming sensation of having found his T'hy'la and the need to hold her again. Spock returns his arms to his sides to stop himself from reaching out to touch her. To make sure that she is real.
She is not dressed in uniform. Not unusual for Starfleet members to be in civilian clothes whilst off duty. Harder for Spock to know her rank, to know what ship she is assigned to. And he needs to know. Every fiber of his being demands him to find out. He can already feel protective urges and the need to ascertain that she is well is overwhelming.
"I should have been more focused on my direction: my attention to where I was walking was occupied by my thoughts. I do hope I have not injured you."
She lets out a small laugh and a small smile graces her lips. Spock wants to see it again.
"In truth, mine too."
"Lieutenant Commander Spock." He introduces himself.
"Arh," she tilts her head, his name rings a bell. It should be to anyone who has read his research. "Nice to put a face to the name. I'm Jamie."
Spock is a little perplexed by this information. She offered him no rank but knew his name. He thought over all the scenarios and settled for the most logical conclusion: she was a recruit and his research is found in many training manuals and lectures.
"Well Spock, I need to be going or Admiral Pike is going to kill me - well not literally- but I do not need another bollocking about my tardiness." Jamie smiles. "Good luck with your upcoming presentation."
Spock watches her go disappearing around the corner. He had a name to go on now. It wasn't much but he could find her or at least ask Pike about her.
Spock knew that going through the Starfleet recruit database would take too much time, he only had her first name and one initial was not enough to go on to narrow her full name down. So the only route left was to ask someone who knew her. Someone he would see today.
Spock enters the room before anyone else does to prepare for his presentation. The sleek, polished surfaces of the lab gleam under the bright lights, and a large screen at the front displays intricate mathematical equations and complex diagrams.
"I see you're making your final preparations."
"Admiral Pike, I did not hear you enter."
"You were lost in thought. Like I hear you were the other day when you ran into a young friend of mine."
"Jamie" Spock nods his confirmation. "I apologise if I made her late. I did not intend -"
"I know you did not."
Admiral Pike can only be described as a thoughtful and courageous leader. He is known for his deep sense of duty, ethical decision-making, and commitment to the safety and well-being of his crew. Pike's leadership style is often marked by his wisdom, empathy, and ability to inspire loyalty and confidence among his crew members. Spock thinks very highly of him for Pike had been nothing but kind and yet able to push others to their best abilities.
"Jamie is... my T'hy'la," Spock announces. There is no one else in the room and getting an appointment with a captain or an admiral who can make clearance for a transfer can take months. Months Spock does not want to waste. Spock views it as the only logical solution.
"Wow, does she?"
"I have not had a chance in which to tell her. No."
Pike raises an eyebrow "I see. That's quite significant. You know that Starfleet regulations state that T'hy'la pairs should serve on the same ship whenever possible. A regulation you added under bonded pairs."
Spock nodded "Indeed. It is both logical and beneficial for such pairs to remain together for optimum performance and well-being."
"There's no denying that. However, this is going to create some challenges." Pike stated.
"Challenges? I fail to see how a simple request -"
"Usually simple Spock. Usually. Jamie is assigned to the Enterprise."
Captain Kirk isn't going to be thrilled about being asked to assign him to the Enterprise. Spock knew of the Enterprise's reputation. The ship was the hardest to get onto everyone he had come across competed to get a spot on the roster. Kirk was notoriously known for liking to have full control when it came to crew members and assignments because Kirk hand-picked them. Jamie being picked by Kirk was an honour. One Spock knew that if Kirk did not pick him, he would only see Jamie on bases. Which was not enough for a T'hy'la bond.
"Don't look so glum. I have a solution. I'm taking it you would like to inform Jamie yourself?"
"Yes, Admiral that is the traditional way."
Pike smirked to himself, a full glint in his eye. "You're exactly what the ship needs. I've been telling Kirk to get a first officer for the last three years -"
"I'm sorry Admiral did you just inform me that the USS Enterprise has been functioning without a first officer for three years - Starfleet regulation-"
Pike held up his hand, "I know Spock. I wrote the rule. I gave Kirk three years to find one. Time is up. So now I can appoint one - do you see where I'm going with this?"
Spock could be assigned to the Enterprise after all.
"Do you not think Captain Kirk will have something to say about that?"
"Most definitely. I can't wait to see Kirk's face." Pike laughed. "It will be a picture."
Members of the Starfleet board started to enter the room. Pike nodded his head, towards the other members and took a seat. The atmosphere is now charged with anticipation. Spock puts up the first page of his presentation as soon as all the Starfleet officials and other members of this meeting sit down Spock starts to begin. "Good day, members of the Starfleet board-"
However, he becomes distracted by a lone figure creeping through much later than everyone else.
"Sorry, carry on." Jamie whispered sheepishly.
