Trust
The only thing Spock decides he does not like about his T'hy'la is her constant need to put herself in harms way. McCoy patted him on the shoulder during their conversation the other day about it, telling him "Welcome to the club." Spock is not sure in which "club" McCoy is referring to or how he got invited into it.
Jamie makes him want to do very uncharacteristic behaviours that are not in his usual parameters due to his Vulcan nature. Despite what is believed about his culture and the way Vulcans present themselves Spock is not referring to having her under him or on him as long as he gets to hear moans - for he wants that very much. Came to terms with how much he wanted it months ago. He is however referring to his need and want to reach out and touch her, and interact with her on an emotional level in the same way he has seen his colleagues do.
McCoy has firmly told him that Jamie does trust him, she just doesn't know how to let others see the real her. That she's scared of being vulnerable.
"You know her just as well as the other members of the team now, but if you want to be closer to her then you're going to need to do something human-like physically touching her Spock. Jamie is a touch-orientated person. "
"I do not wish to make her uncomfortable -"
"But you're getting nowhere with not pushing the boundaries Spock being all respectful. Asking to join her at meal times and for chess will only get you so far. Dammit, Spock I just want to see her happy for once. Deserves the moon -"
"I fail to see how a piece of rock-"
"It's an expression, Spock!" McCoy gruffs. "Look, Scotty and I are the only ones on this ship that knew her before her Captaincy now."
Spock is somewhat surprised given the friendly nature of their Captain.
"It's not to do with how she Captains - she's been Captain on this Ship for almost five years officially five years come October. Apart from Pike, we are properly the closest thing to having an actual family that she's got as she's not got a lot of family left now. Take it from someone who knows her. You want to tell her what she means to you - do it physically - by touching her. Put a hand on the small of her back - put a hand on her shoulder - brush the hair out of her face, I don't care what you do Spock just do something."
The barren, rocky landscape of the alien planet is bathed in the eerie light of its distant sun. Spock and Jamie, dressed in their Starfleet uniforms, carefully make their way through the jagged terrain. They are part of an away team sent to investigate unusual energy readings. His first mission with her.
"The energy source is just up ahead. It's giving off some strange fluctuations." Jamie states as she is scanning with her tricorder.
"Agreed. We must proceed with caution. The readings are highly unstable."
As they move closer, a sudden rumbling shakes the ground. Large boulders begin to tumble down from the cliffs above.
Jamie shouts, "Spock, look out!"
Without hesitation, Spock grabs Jamie by the arm and pulls her to safety behind a large rock outcrop. They barely escape the falling debris.
Jamie is breathing heavily, he hasn't been this close to her since they bumped into each other on Station 11. Her face is mere inches from his own. She is close enough that Spock could kiss her lips. The hesitancy in her blue eyes stops him.
Spock clears his throat, "Let us finish this mission and get back to the ship."
They cautiously continue their trek, more aware of the dangers lurking in the unstable terrain. As they approach the source of the energy readings, the air grows warmer, and the ground vibrates with increasing intensity.
Spock takes out his tricorder scanning once more, "The energy fluctuations are reaching a critical point. We must neutralize the source before it destabilizes further."
They reach a clearing where a pulsating, glowing device sits embedded in the ground. Sparks fly from its surface, and the energy readings spike erratically.
"That thing looks like it could blow any second!"
"We need to deactivate it."
"How?" Jamie enquires, Spock takes a good look at his T'hy'la usually he follows her example, she is his Captain after all. He does not want her to think that she is unsuited for her role if he takes charge. Jamie however gestures wildly at him, "Come on Spock you are the science researcher here - this thing will blow by the time I can come up with anything."
It was his expertise she was after. She was being logical.
"Just follow my instructions precisely Captain."
As Spock begins to work on the device, Jamie stands guard, her eyes scanning the surroundings for any additional threats. The device emits a high-pitched whine, and the vibrations intensify.
Spock is completely focused on his task, but he speaks to her as he goes. She is an impatient woman who likes to get updates as they come, "Almost there… Just a few more adjustments…"
Suddenly, a loud crack echoes through the clearing as the ground beneath the device begins to split open. The device teeters on the edge of the fissure.
"Spock, it's going to fall!"
Jamie's voice is worried
Spock's is more so. He would not let her put herself in danger in his presence.
"Captain, move back!"
Ignoring the command, Jamie steps forward to help stabilize the device. Spock quickly finishes the final adjustments and, with a surge of effort, pulls Jamie back just as the device falls into the fissure, deactivating in the process.
Jamie grins sheepishly at him, "We did it!"
Spock is less than impressed with her. "You ignored my instruction - you could have fallen in with it -"
"I'm fine Spock -" Jamie smiles indicating at herself, "Let's get back to the ship, Spock. Mission accomplished."
They turn and head back towards their extraction point, ready to return to the safety of the USS Enterprise.
