"What do you mean I have another job?" Drake asked with a frown, currently he was taking the train back to Kuoh Train Station after having left Kyoto, and he had just been phoned by Raynare who has informed him he's got another job to do.
"Exactly what I said!" Raynare huffed, and he can tell she was rolling her eyes at him. "We got a call from somebody, a girl from the sounds of her voice, saying they'd like to hire our services. They wanted you specifically to help with a demon infestation in the woods on the outskirts of town. We tried to say we'd do it as you were in Kyoto but they were very stubborn and insisted that they needed your help. They said they'll be waiting there for you to arrive."
Drake narrowed his eyes at that, wondering why he was being asked for specifically. In the month of having Raynare and Kalawarner as his partners, whenever someone calls Devil May Cry for their services in killing demons, they never ask for someone specifically. If Drake's busy, then Raynare and Kalawarner take the job either solo or together,a and no one says anything about Drake not being there to do it. So why was this client wanting him specifically?
'Guess I'll find out when I get there.' Drake thought before he sighed and said. "Alright, I'll take the job and let you know after I'm done."
"Right... and bring in dinner when you're coming home!" Raynare said before she hung up, causing Drake to chuckle and roll his eyes before he pocketed his phone.
Soon, he arrived in Kuoh and left the train station, making his way to the outskirts of town where the woods were. He looked around with narrowed eyes, so sure the woods were where the client wanted to meet up for details about the job, but he couldn't find anyone. In fact, he would be surprised if someone was out at this time of night as it was incredibly dark out, the full moon high in the sky, crickets chirping and making their little noises in the night.
"Hello." A voice said, causing Drake to turn around and he saw three very attractive girls around his age standing there much to his surprise.
The first was a well-endowed girl that appears to be of Chinese descent, with shoulder-length black hair and blue-green eyes. Her hair has two Chinese style buns on both sides of her head, while the front features bangs that form a slight V-shape across her forehead. Her outfits consists of a navy blue qipao with gold accents, with a sash around her stomach, black armguards on her forearms, and black, low-heeled shoes. The qipao was open at the chest area, giving view to her breast and cleavage, as well as a split down the left side to show off her long, left leg.
The girl on the left was wearing a headband that goes across her light brown hair and forehead, and green eyes, and an equally endowed body as the Chinese girl. Strangely though, her outfit consists of a full set of silver armor with black accents that appears to be a cross between a European knight and a Japanese samurai; with chest plate, gauntlets, greaves, hip plates, and shoulder guards. She was equipped with a broadsword and a dagger, both of which are held with brown belts slung across her hip, with the sword slung on her left hip and the dagger located behind her hips.
As for the more matured woman, her attire is a dress consisting of a navy blue tunic top with gold accents and a pale blue skirt with open sides, black shoes and over matching thigh-high stockings with garter belts. The top reveals much of her cleavage and is held with a gold choker with blue and red jewels. Over this, she wears a white overcoat with black and gold accents and matching pauldrons. For accessories, she wears a black headband with a red-orange jewel over her forehead to keep her long hair in place and wields a staff-like scepter in battle. For cosmetics, she wears purple lipstick and nail polish, matching her eyes and hair. She had long, wavy purple hair that falls all the way down her back and matching eyes. At the front, the right side of her hair falls over her breast and covers her right eye, while the left side falls near the top of her skirt.
The Chinese girl first introduced herself first. "My name is Xuelan."
The blonde was the next to introduce herself. "Karlamine. It's an honor."
The last one also bowed, her breasts for some reason jiggling in the process but it didn't deter Drake whatsoever. "Yubelluna. Good to meet you."
"Drake Redgrave. You're the ones who called and asked for me specifcially?" Drake asked, turning to them and crossing his arms over his chest.
Yubelluna nodded. "We are. We apologize for dismissing your partners, but we heard of your experience and felt that you would be suitable for this kind of job."
"Uh[huh." Drake said, sounding like he didn't believe her but he said nothing about it and just shrugged. "Okay, what's the problem?"
"A demon is taking refuge in these woods." Xuelan said, gesturing to the area around them. "We've tracked it here but it's evaded us so far. So we felt we had to get a professional Demon Hunter to find it and kill it. Of course, we'll be aiding you. We came all this way to kill that thing and we're not sitting it out."
Drake stared at them for a good long moment, causing them to fidget, before he shrugged again, turned and began making his way up the trail. "Suit yourselves, just don't get in my way because I ain't responsible for you."
As he walked on ahead, the girls followed him but at a slower pace so they could chat privately... and spy on Drake without him knowing about it.
"Oi, Yubelluna," Xuelan whispered to the more mature woman. "That's him isn't it?"
"I think so," Yubelluna confirmed. "Just keep an eye on him for now until we are in the mountains."
"Agreed," Karlamine said. "We need to be as far away as possible to carry out our mission."
They were deep in the woods now, and were high enough into the hills where the fog covered much of their surroundings. They could still see Kuoh Town behind them as the lights were on within the city.
"Woo. Hiking is certainly something." Xuelan said as she put her hands on her hips and bent over, doing some stretches. "Don't know how hikers do it."
"Experience most likely." Yubelluna shrugged as she pulled three water bottles from... somewhere and hands two of them to Xuelan and Karlamine.
"Thanks 'Luna." Karlamine thanked, getting a smile from the mature purple-haired woman before she walked over to Drake who was crouched on the ground and running his hand across the ground slowly.
"Here." She said, offering hers to Drake. He glanced at her and smiled before taking the bottle, took a sip then wiped the top before handing it back to her.
"Thanks." He said and got back to what he was doing.
"You're tracking?" Yubelluna asked, seeing the way he was caressing the ground. He nodded in response. "Find anything?"
"The demon came through this way, that's for certain. And I can smell it." Drake said lowly, looking ahead. "I know the smell of demonic origin like the back of my hand. It's close... very close. So close that I'd say-"
He whirled around, unsheathing Rebellion in time to block Karlamine's sword.
"That it's right here." He finished, pushing Karlamine back. "I knew something was off with you three."
Karlamine places a hand on the pommel of her sword. "I am sorry, Drake. But we have been ordered by our master to end you."
Drake was unfazed by the threat however, keeping a calm and collected manner.
"Honestly, Karlamine," Yubelluna said. "You really think we should end him now?"
"It's bad enough that we walked with him, only to kill him in the end, you know," Xuelan said with equal annoyance.
Karlamine did not take her eyes off of Drake though. "Have you two forgotten? This is the one our master spoke about, the one we've been assigned to kill by Lord Riser."
The others' eyes widen for a brief moment before an intensely serious expression covered their faces.
"You mean the one that was able to kill the Fallen Angels?" Xuelan asked as she joined Karlamine, followed by Yubelluna. Xuelan soon smirks confidently. "This is truly our lucky day for us. Why not see what this handsome Devil has got?"
"I agree," Yubelluna said. "I am curious of this boy's power."
Drake chuckled as he shook his head. "So, I've been punked, huh? There is no demon, right? You guys made it up just to get me all alone in the woods to get a piece off. If you ladies wanted a date, all you had to do was buy me a drink first and we can know each other on a first-name basis."
Yubelluna smirked. "Aren't you quite the Casanova?"
"But seriously, do you really want to do this?" Drake asked seriously, leaning Rebellion against his shoulder.
"It's nothing personal, Drake," Xuelan said. "We are just following orders from our master."
Drake scoffed. "Yet he's too much of a coward to come and kill me himself? Talk about lazy."
They took offence to that remark however.
"You would think to insult us like this?" asked Yubelluna. "You are no match for the servants of the House of Phenex!"
Soon both parties armed themselves, with Drake readying himself with Rebellion in hand. He pointed the blade at them and gave them a 'come on!' gesture with his other hand.
Suddenly, a loud roar was heard. Like that of an animal.
"Oh right... there is one flaw in your tactic to get me alone." Drake said as the girls looked around in confusion.
CRASH!
Bursting out of the trees was a demon that charged at the group, causing Drake to quickly leap and push the girls out of the way before they could all be bulldozed by the big demon. Drake rolled to his feet and looked at the newly arrived demon before speaking.
"Because there really was a demon roaming these parts."
The demon was a four legged and two-armed creature that was huge, like the size of a hill. Armed with two gigantic armed blades and armored on its head, it tore through the landscape with such ease.
"Big boy." Drake smirked, leaning Rebellion on his shoulder as the demon turned and glared at the group of four.
The demon roars once again as the three get ready. It raises its frontal legs forward for a slam.
"JUMP!" Drake called as all four jumped away from the demon.
Xuelan does a midair flaming kick to the monster but the attack barely shrugged the demon. Getting back on the ground, she rushes forward and unleashes a series of punches at the beast's abdomen but she was soon grabbed and squished by the demon's gigantic hand.
"AHHH!" Xuelan yelped as she felt herself getting crushed by the monster.
Yubelluna takes out her staff, which was a black staff with a red orb decorated on top and unleashes a series of mini explosions at the demon, making it let go of Xuelan. Drake manages to catch her from her fall bridal style.
"You alright?" He asked.
"Y-Yes." Xuelan said, blushing from the way Drake was holding her.
Karlamine charges forth with her sword and cuts the leg of the demon. Though only small, it was enough to get its attention away from Drake. It roars and charges at Karlamine, who barely dodges out of the way to evade its attack.
"Yubelluna, more explosions," Karlamine suggested. "Keep up the pressure."
"On it!" Yubelluna cried out as she unleashed more explosions, enough for its armored helm to get blown off.
Unfortunately, all it did was make the beast angry.
With its arm blades, it swats Yubelluna right out of the air and make her slam to the ground hard.
"GAAH!" Yubelluna cried and she was soon swiped again from the demon, making her slam into a mountain side.
"Yubelluna!" Drake shouted as he sets Xuelan down and goes to check on the Bomb Queen, but his path was blocked by the demon. "How's it going, ugly?"
The demon uses its arm blades to swipe at Drake but he manages to warp between each strike and dodge, all the while whooping and laughing. Those blades were huge, enough to cut down even the strongest of trees on Earth.
Drake runs up it's arm and grabs onto the demon's head. The beast roars and tries to fling Drake off as he holds on. The trees were being destroyed as the demon lays waste to the surrounding area.
Drake soon climbs up and stabilizes himself enough to see him face to face with the demon's right eye. With his sword, Rebellion, in hand, Draje pierces it hard into the demon's right eye. It cries out in pain as it soon grabs a hold of Drake, looking pissed off.
"Yeah... I have that effect on every demon." Drake chuckled when seeing the demon's pissed off look directed at him.
"Hang on!" Karlamine said as she threw a couple of her daggers at the demon's other eye, piercing it and making it blind. Blood pours forth from both eyes as the beast lets go of Drake, making him drop back to the ground and rally to the blonde woman.
Drake and Karlamine then charge with their swords, jump up, and cut down at the beast's stomach. It was not a deep cut, but it was enough to wound it. They both land simultaneously to the ground and turn around in time to see the demon flee into the forest, wounded and blind.
"It's getting away!" Karlamine said.
"HA! We got it on the run." Xuelan praised as she looks onward.
Yubelluna collapsed in exhaustion and was about to fall had it not been for Drake catching her from behind.
"Easy," Drake said as he held her up. Yubelluna blushed though, seeing the man she was suppose to kill hold her upright from her fall.
Xuelan saw this and could not help but be a bit jealous. When she woke up, she was in Drake's arms bridal style and it made her blush. It could have just been instinct though.
Once the four settle down and recover, Drake was the only one standing up and facing the direction of where the demon took off. He'll have to track it and finish it off later, once he's done with his current situation.
"So, tell me..." Drake started as he turned to the three girls. "Why does your boss want me dead?"
The three girls, surprised, turned their heads in shock towards Drake. The man who had saved them from the monstrous demon was now questioning them in an interrogative manner. He had his sword drawn and pointed to them.
"What are you—" Xuelan was about to ask but Drake interrupts her.
"Who. Sent. You. And why does he want me dead?" Drake asked sternly.
Having witnessed his power firsthand and having been saved by them, they were stuck in a dilemma.
"I guess we have no choice then," Karlamine answered. But the other two turned to her in shock.
"Karlamine, don't do it—" Xuelan said.
"If we tell him, we will disappoint him!" Yubelluna said. But Karlamine, honorable as she was, only turned to them in regret.
"We already failed in our mission. That was disappointing enough," Karlamine said. "So we might as well come clean with the truth." Karlamine steps forward to reveal the truth. "We were sent by our master to eliminate you. He had deemed you a threat to his plan."
"And what, pray tell, was that plan?" Drake asked. But none of the girls answered, making him drop the question. "Forget about it." He turned away from them and sheathed rebellion across his back. "So, what now?"
"…We will have to give our report back that we failed," Xuelan explained. "There will be severe consequences heading our way."
"But you saved our lives," Karlamine said. "And for that, we owe you a debt we cannot repay."
Drake was surprised at that gesture, making him turn around briefly to see the three bow before him.
"You would keep this promise?" asked Drake in confirmation.
"We may be servants of a Devil noble, but we are not without honor." Karlamine said. But Drake was not convinced, and he needed more proof of their conviction.
"If you are so willing to uphold your promise, then swear it."
Lifting themselves up, the three girls bring their fists to their chests to declare their promise. "We promise you, Drake Redgrave, that we will not forget what you have done for us this day. You saved our lives from that demon and protected us from death. And for that, we are in your gratitude." They said in sync.
Drake, satisfied with their answers, turns around once again with his back facing them.
"Give your master this message: if he wants to kill me, let him try with his own hands." He told them before walking in the direction the demon had gone off in. "Now, I have a demon to put out of it's misery."
As he leaves though, the three girls watch him leave, with a variety of feelings etched across their faces.
Alright, I apologize for briefly deleting this story. I wasn't thinking straight. I was going to replace it with a new DMC/DxD crossover with an OC son of Dante as the main character, but the PMs sent to me suggested this story is well-liked despite the hell it's been going through. So, I've brought it back and intend to see it through to the end, that I promise you.
But what I do need help with is the mother of my OC son of Dante. In my DMC/Percy Jackson series, his mother is Artemis, but that's ONLY for that series. I need someone permanent for other stories I do with the character and I was thinking... Lady or Lucia (The chick from DMC 2). Wouldn't work with Trish because... well, she's resembles Dante's own mother which would be weird if he pursued a romance with her.
