"...Rias Gremory retires. The winner is Riser Phenex."
All was silent throughout Devil May Cry as Drake Redgrave, Raynare and Kalawarner sat around the desk, their eyes focused on a projection showing the Rating Game between Rias Gremory and Riser Phenex, installed by Grayfia Lucifuge before she left to do her job as referee of the Rating Game. The trio of Devil May Cry watched the game with focused, calculating eyes. Raynare and Kalawarner were the only ones who made comments, like how the chainsaw twins needed some serious therapy, or remarks about Isse's 'Dress Break' move which, as th title suggests, has the ability to remove clothing off a person.
However, Rias and her Peerage fought valiantly, managing to take out several of Riser's servants including his Queen. Out of all of them, only Yubelluna, Xuelan and Karlamine seemed to fight out of reluctance, but knew they had to.
Though, when it came to Riser's sister, Ravel, Raynare and Kalawarner had a lot to say about her and her attitude but reasoned that she was a pureblood, high-born Devil raised in wealth and in a Noble House, so the attitude was understandable... but they hated it.
Throughout it all, Drake was silent, just watching the game. His eyes sharpened when seeing Rias' servants lose until it came down to just Rias, Issei and Asia, who retired at rias' orders to avoid getting hurt. However, Issei fought bravely for Rias against Riser himself, but the Phenex heir purposefully tortured Issei with a beatdown in front of Rias' eyes and used her caring nature for her servants against her, while mocking how she didn't have her 'half-blood pet' here to save her.
Then Rias forfeited the game to Riser when she saw he was about to kill Issei, which means Rias would have to marry Riser.
"Fucking bastard." Kalawarner scowled as the projection closed. "I bet all thise Devils watching expected Rias to lose."
"Of course they did." Raynare said with a shake of her head, crossing her arms under her breasts. "They just humoured Rias with letting her have a chance to fight, didn't even give her enough time to properly train herself and her servants because of her 'inexperience'. If anything, two weeks would've done it."
Kalawarner looked at her. "We had ten days, well technically nine, of training and hunting demons. Now we're four-winged Fallen Angels, I'm sure ten days would've been fine if they were focused and trained before all of this happened."
"Yeah, but..." Raynare stopped as she saw Drake had been deathly silent, staring hard at the desk. "Drake?"
the son of Sparda glanced at her, his eyes cold and hard.
"What do we do?" Raynare asked, gulping at the look in his eyes.
"Now... I go fuck that bastard up." Drake growled, standing and grabbing his coat off the coat rock. He threw it on and adjusted it before grabbing Rebellion and slung it across his back. "I'm going to fight my way into the Underworld, find wherever the hell this marriage is taking place, kill any Devil that gets on the way, kill riser and take Rias back."
"Yeah, that's all well and good, Drake, and you know we'd have your back... but we have no way to reach the Underworld." Raynare reminded him.
"May I suggest something?" A familiar voice asked as a silver magic circle appeared in the middle of the room, and from it came Grayfia Lucifuge. Her eyes were on the son of Sparda. "I trust you witnessed the game?"
Drake nodded. "Now how do I get into the Underworld? I'm not going to let this happen to Rias, and I don't care how many Devils need to die so I can save her and kill Riser."
Grayfia was silent, staring into his eyes. The same icy blue eyes Sparda's human form had. The older woman caught Drake, as well as his Fallen Angels parents off guard... when she giggled, as they saw her smile with a blush. "You truly are your father's son. He said similar words about your mother. That if his enemies ever took her hostage to use against him, he would kill everyone standing between him and rescuing her. Looking at you, I can see you are fiercely protective of those you love and will do anything to protect them. I've met a lot of devils and people over the years, but never ones quite like you and him. And I'm not the only one who thinks so." She reached into a pocket and pulled out a piece of paper and presented it to him. "My brother-in-law, Sirzechs, feels the exact same way."
The paper she was handing to Drake was a single paper with a magic circle on it. "What's this supposed to be?" He asked, taking it and staring at the circle.
"If you want, this can transport you to the engagement party." Grayfia said with a knowing smile, which caused Drake's breath to hitch a little. Why didn't this beautiful woman smile more? She looked stunning when she did.
"It's a gift from my sister, Sylvia, as well as Sirzechs who had a message for you." She responded, still smiling at him. "'If you want to save my sister, you better be ready for war, son of Sparda.' There is also another circle on the back of the paper." Drake looked back down at the paper and flipped it over to see the second magic circle. "Remember his warning, Drake. If you are really going to try and rescue her, it's your only opinion. I believe it is time for the legacy of Sparda to be revealed and come out of hiding."
And with that, she teleported out of the room. Drake stood still in silence for a brief moment. He knew what he had to do.
Rias sighed in annoyance when she walked up to a tall mirror to look at herself. She was in a large, luxurious dressing room, with six maids standing behind. The redhead beauty with wearing an elegant white wedding dress that fit her hourglass form greatly with her crimson hair tied up. "This is an engagement party," she said, annoyed, "so why the hell am I in a wedding dress?"
"Because Riser wanted it." An all too familiar voice said, making her turn around to see a vortex of flames a few feet away. It died down and was gone, revealing Riser to be standing in its place.
"No, Lord Riser, you mustn't," one of the maids pleaded. "Men aren't allowed in here." But Riser walked past her with a raised hand.
"Just a word with my bride and I'll be out momentarily," he said as he approached Rias, who glared at him with her arms crossed. "Look at that dress. You really are a beautiful bride, my love."
"I'm not a bride yet, sorry to disappoint you," she told him. "Now why am I dressed up?"
He leaned closer to her. "'What's with the dress'?" The blonde man moved to her right side and placed an arm around her shoulders. "I just want you to make a good impression on our esteemed guests, my dear," he told her, bringing his face closer to hers. "After all, we need to demonstrate to the world that our two houses have joined together. Right?"
Rias would have tried to lean her head back from the arrogant Devil, as she could feel his breath on her right cheek. However, Riser held her shoulders firmly.
"It's such a shame your half-breed couldn't compete in the game." Riser said with an arrogant smirk. "Or be here. I would've loved to have seen his face as the two of us married."
"Don't you dare bring him into this!" Rias hissed angrily, glaring at him with fury. "You didn't want him in the game because you were scared of him. You felt the demonic power within him, so-"
"I am scared of no one!" Riser hissed with anger as he gripped her chin a little too tightly. "Least of all some filthy half-breed who is worthless and has no name."
Rias smirked. "He's more special than you realize."
Riser scoffed. "I doubt that very much. But I'll let you fantasise, you'll forget about him eventually. "
"Like hell." Rias spat, causing Riser to chuckle as he turned to leave.
"Oh, and don't worry about the dress." Riser stopped a few feet away. "When the time comes, you'll be dressed in a gown of flaming feathers." He opened a teleportation circle, summoning a flaming vortex. "It's only fitting for a lady of the House of Phoenix!" His voice echoed as he was engulfed in the fires, and disappeared.
Rias stayed where she was standing when he left, not very pleased to hear her future wedding dress's design. "'A dress made of flaming feathers'? I'd think I'd be better off killing myself," she said to no one in particular. She couldn't believe that this was having. That she was going to be married to Riser Phoenix of all people.
But, she would've made the same choice over and over again, for the safety of her servants..
She sighed as her thoughts turned to a certain someone, who she wished was here right now.
'Drake…'
"Lady Rias, it's time."
"… Right."
The engagement party was held in a large ballroom with two large wooden doors. In the room were many noble Devils wearing elegant dresses and suits talking and greeting one another.
Among the Devils was Ravel Phoenix, dressed in a purple dress with matching gloves and boots, giggling as she held a pink folding fan in front of her mouth. "My incredibly talented brother won himself a bribe by demolishing the Gremorys," she bragged to a few Devils in front of her. Standing around her were Riser's servants, all dressed nicely for the occasion. "Of course, I had no doubt he was going to win from the beginning. But he had to keep it close, so it wouldn't a total bore. Hahaha."
A few feet away, Issei, Asia, Kiba, Koneko, and Akeno were watching her talk, not showing any grudge or anger towards the. All there were doing with drinking from fine glass cups. Issei and Kiba were wearing a tuxedo and a black bow tie, Akeno was wearing a black kimono, Asia wore a green dress, and Koneko had on a pink dress with white gloves.
"She's delightful," Kiba commented.
"Yes. The girl has quite a mouth on her, doesn't she?" said a familiar voice. The three turned their heads to find Sona in a blue dress.
"Sona, what's up?"
"While the outcome of the battle wasn't want we wanted it to be, I thought it was a good match," she responded with a smile. "Although, I won't have complained if the end results have been a bit different."
"Thanks for support, but I promise this thing isn't even close to being over," Akeno said, surprising Sona a bit.
"We'll get another shot at them, I'm sure." Kiba said. "Only next time we'll be ready for their tricks."
"… Yeah, screw those D-bags," Koneko said before taking a sip of her drink.
"We should be doing something! Not standing around and letting this happen!" Issei growled.
"Don't worry, Issei." Akeno said with a smile. "I got a feeling someone won't let this happen."
"...He's late." Koneko said in her usual monotone voice.
Kiba smiled. "Maybe he's just looking to make an entrance."
Sudden a Phoenix transportation circle formed in front of one of the large doors, and the usual vortex of fire shot from it. Out of it came Riser, wearing a white outfit that exposed his chest. "Greetings, renowned Devils of the Underworld!" He announced to all in the room. "On behalf of the House of Phoenix, I, Riser, would like to thank each and every one of you for coming today. This is a historic moment for the world of Devils, and I want our dear guest to know, two great dynasties are about to become one. Lord Riser of the distinguish House of Phoenix will wed Lady Rias of the illustrious House of Gremory!" He then gestured his right arm and hand to the right of him. "And now, I present to you my new bride—Rias Gremory!"
The redhead appeared next to him.
BAM!
The other door on the other side of the room suddenly barged up.
Rias gasped in shock after it happened, as did her peerage, Riser, his peerage, and everyone else as they snapped their heads towards the door.
Standing there at the door with Rebellion leaning on his right shoulder in a casual manner was Drake Redgrave.
Drake smirked. "Knock knock, who's there? Zuul, motherfuckers."
"Drake!" Rias called to him, directing his attention to her.
"Hey Rias." Drake winked at her, making her blush. "Told you I wouldn't let you down."
"You!" Riser growled.
"Me!" Drake pointed at himself dramatically.
"Who you think you are, boy?" Riser demanded, pointing at him.
"Well, that's the question, for all of you at least." Drake chuckled before he took Rebellion off his shoulder and stabbed it into the ground, chinking the marble floor. "Whoops, hope that wasn't an expensive floor. But hey, the workers will get their money's worth for fixing it. Anyway, my name is Drake Redgrave... and I've come to say I object to this farce of an engagement."
"How dare you!" Riser exclaimed angrily.
"Seriously," Ravel said with a raised eyebrow. "Is this guy mental?"
"Cease him!" Riser commanded, and not long after, Drake was surrounded by Devil guards. Armed with spears, they pointed them at the white-haired teen.
Drake just smirked before he disappeared in the blink of an eye, then reappeared in the same position in another split second. This time, he was holding Yamato, which was unsheathed but he was slowly sheathing it while the Devil guards seem to be frozen stiff, at least until...
Clink!
Cuts appeared on the Devils, especially at the areas that would incapacitate them, before they fell over in pain, groaning.
"Sorry guys, but I did promise a gorgeous maid before I barged in here that I wouldn't kill... apparently the backlash wouldn't be worth it." Drake said, dispelling Yamato and ripping Rebellion from the ground while stepping over the bodies of the guards, his eyes on Riser. "Now, where were we?"
"Is this your doing?" One of the Devils demanded Riser, who was snarling at the approaching white-haired teen.
"Lord Riser," said another guest, "what is the meaning of this?"
"It's just a little entertainment I've prepared," said a voice to Rias and Riser's right, making them look in that direction. Even Drake, who was a few meters away from reaching them, stopped to look. The person who spoke with a handsome and young man, appearing to be about in his early 20's, with shoulder length crimson hair and blue-green eyes. Standing next to him was a beautiful woman who could pass for Grayfia's twin, given the matching hair colour and eyes, but the difference was she had her hair flowing freely and was dressed in a beautiful black dress that hugged her voluptuous body. Standing beside her was Grayfia.
"Who's he?" Drake asked.
"My brother's here?" Rias gasped. Drake glanced at her with surprise, before looking back at the man. So this was Sirzechs Lucifer. The man then spotted Drake and approached him, with who was no doubt his wife, and Grayfia following.
"You must be Drake Redgrave," Sirzechs said as he approached him. "I've heard a many great things about you."
"All good things, I hope." Drake couldn't help but ask with a smirk, making Sirzechs chuckle.
"My lord!" Riser called out, not liking that he was being ignored. "What do you mean by entertainment?" Sirzechs turned around to face him.
"I watched the game, Riser, and honestly, I was underwhelmed by you," the crimson-haired man told Riser, much to his sister's surprise. "My sister lacks your gaming experience, yet against your considerably larger force, she nearly had you beaten."
"It's the final result that counts, my lord," Riser argued.
"In the past, the games don't mean what they use to. Besides, Riser, you were nearly brought to your knees by a first time competitor. And let's not begin to talk about that scar you got, but I wasn't too surprised, considering this sword. I can't image your family's proud of the way you preformed. I think you should be given another chance."
This surprised not only Riser, but everyone in the room.
"Well then, Sirzechs, how do you propose to do this?" asked a handsome looking middle-aged man with long crimson hair that was tied in a loose ponytail with a black hairband, bright blue eyes, with a short and red beard.
"Come now, mother and father." Sirzechs gestured towards Drake, who stood there with an eyebrow raised. "Doesn't this young man remain you of anyone?"
Rias' father examined Drake's feature closely for about three seconds, before his eyes widened. "Could it be?"
"Indeed it is." Sirzechs nodded before turning to their audience. "Ladies and gentlemen, may I present Drake Redgrave... the son of the Legendary Dark Knight, Sparda."
Several gasps rang out through the room, followed by whispers as Drake had a lot of eyes on him now.
"That-that's impossible!" Riser said with wide eyes. "The Dark Knight died disappeared years ago!"
"Correct, but what many save for those he trusted personally such as myself, my wife, Grayfia and a select few knew... is that Sparda had fallen in love with a human world during his time on Earth. He married her and Drake here is the result." Sirzechs said, gesturing to the young half-Devil. "I was there the day Eva gave birth to this young man, and I can confirm he is Sparda's son. After all, you all feel the demonic power within him, you all see the Rebellion and witnessed him wield the Yamato. Only those two weapons belonged to one other, Sparda. It was the Yamato that Sparda used to trap Mundus and his legions away from the Underworld, and I would recognize that sword very well. And I heard how 'disappointed' you were that Drake wasn't here, so I sought to correct that and also see what he's capable of myself."
"I see," Riser said, bring back his arrogant smirk. "You want a fight."
"Sparda vs Phoenix. Yes, I believe our guess would quite enjoy a head-to-head match between two of such powers such as yours."
Drake looked at Riser, and saw how eager he was to fight him. The stage has been set, and the only other opinion left was to fight.
When Rias saw the determined expression on his face, Rias knew that Drake was going to accept the challenge. "No," she begged, "please don't!"
"An excellent idea, my lord," Riser said. "I'd be more than happy to show my last performance before getting married."
Sirzechs nodded to him, before turning to Drake. "And you, Drake. There are many who have quite an interest in seeing your abilities. To prove you are the son of Sparda. Would you kind enough to show them what you're capable of?"
"Hell yes," Drake said with missing a beat.
"Drake, don't do it." Rias again begged him. Riser placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Relax, Rias," he said, not taking his eyes off his opponent. "Mr. Redgrave is a big boy. Riser is certain he can handle himself."
"So tell me, Son of Sparda," Sirzechs said to Drake, "if you are the victor, what would you like to have as your reward?"
"You can't be serious!" The guests criticized.
"A reward for a half-Devil?"
However, Sirzechs was having none of it. "Silence," he said sternly. "Your king has spoken. Half-Devil or not, he is still the son of a legendary hero without who we would all be slaves to the so-called Demon King, so he'll get his prize. I'm the one that's requested this of him, I must give him my compensation for his troubles. Now then, what would you like? A title? A woman of great beauty? Ask, and if you win, you shall receive."
"… There's only one thing I want." Drake stated. "Rias Gremory!"
Rias' expression turned to a very happy one.
"Very well. If you win, you may have Rias."
"Wait a minute, please." Riser suddenly spoke, making everyone turn their attention to him. "I'd like to double the stakes," he said with a cocky grin. "Just to make this match even more exciting."
"Oh?" Sirzechs raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms. "And what would that be?"
Riser's grin grew. He pointed his finger towards Drake. "I want for you to serve Riser forever. You'll preform ever task I give you, without question, and without hesitation."
Drake clicked his tongue, looking off to the side a little. Hopwever, he then smirked and nodded. "You got a deal. And what about you? you have to put something on the line too, if you lose."
"I won't lose," Riser stated firmly, his arrogance acts up again.
"Let's just say that you do," Drake continued. "What happens then?"
Riser growled lightly with his eyes twitching a bit, before he took a breath and regained his cocky composure. "If I lose—which, again, won't happen—I'll give you… my Rook, Xuelan."
Xuelan gasped in shock at his statement. He couldn't be serious.
"My Knight, Karlamine."
Karlamine gritted her teeth in anger.
"And my Queen, Yubelluna."
Yubelluna's eyes widened as the ballroom erupted into the guest talking and muttering to each other.
"They're your friends." Drake said with a frown. "Why would you easily throw them away so?"
"They're not my friends," Riser stated harshly, "they are my Evil Pieces, my servants, and I'll do whatever I please with them."
Drake gritted his teeth in anger as his hold on the Rebellion tightened to the point that his hand trembled, further despising the man before. How could he do this to the people that have been by his side for who knows how long. Now with Rias, and the girls on the line, including his free will, he knew that he had to accept.
He sighed. "… Deal."
"Alright then. I'll prepare the stage." And with that, Sirzechs snapped his fingers, and a teleportation circle formed under the two combatants. In a flash of red light, they disappeared from the ballroom.
The next thing that Drake knew, he was standing at the far end of a ruined arena. The arena with a large one, with statues of chess pieces around the edge. On the other side was Riser. The sky over their heads was dark red, with no clouds in sight.
"Redy to be humilated, son of Sparda?" Riser sneered. "You should know, it is folly to-"
He was interrupted by the sound of yawning and looked to see Drake laying on the floor, letting out fake snores. He opened his eyes and smirked at Riser. "Oh sorry, I started dozing off as soon as I heard you speak."
"...YOU BASTARD!" Riser created a huge fireball and threw it, Drake still smirking as he remained where he was. The fireball struck where the son of Sparda had been laying, causing smoke and dust to obstruct everyone's view of the half-Devil. When it cleared away, the only thing left was a blackened and scorched ground, no sign of Drake. Riser smirked. "Ha! Didn't even last a-"
"Yoo-hoo!" He heard and looked up at one of the giant chess pieces, only to see Drake sitting on top of it, waving at him. "I'm sorry, what were you saying there?"
Riser roared as he created another fireball and threw it, this time Drake jumped off in plain view and landed on the ground as the fireball destroyed the giant chess piece he had been sitting on. Drake turned and whistled at the sight before he faced Riser and reached up to unsheathe Rebellion.
"This party's getting crazy!" Drake said with a grin on his face. "LET'S ROCK!"
And I think that's a perfect way to end this chapter. Next chapter: Drake vs Riser.
