Chapter 9 Storm Rescue

The sun rose as Moana and Pua sailed across the ocean. Moana couldn't see the hook constellation during the day, but she had a general sense of what direction it was in and when the sun did go down, she would be able to see it clearly and correct her course if she made any mistakes. Pua seemed to be enjoying himself as he walked around the boat a bit and looked for a good place to bathe in the sun. The little pig heard a sound from a storage area on the boat and went to investigate it and found Heihei a rooster from the village resting in the hold. Heihei was notoriously dumb and had a habit of doing dumb things. The rooster came out of the hold and realized he was no longer on dry land and let out a squawk of fear getting Moana's attention.

"It's ok Heihei. I'll keep you safe." Said Moana going over to pet the rooster and carefully put him in the hold to prevent him from walking off the boat.

Heihei just walked around the little hold going back and forth, which just made Pua roll his eyes.

Moana went back to navigating and thinking what to say to Maui and how to handle him. A part of Moana feared that Maui would steal the heart and flee with it. She had no real weapons or fighting experience and Maui was said to be a fierce warrior with shapeshifting powers. Moana decided to not worry about that and began to practice what she would say to Maui once she found him, using the words that her grandmother had told her to say.

"I am Moana of Motunui. You will board my boat, sail across the sea, and restore the heart of Te Fiti. No...I have to be more confident to get him to listen and take me seriously! Maui. I am Moana of Motunui! You will board my boat, sail across the sea and restore the heart of Te Fiti! I am Moana... of... Mo... tu... Board my boat! Oh, no. No ... no... no...no. No. This is harder then I thought!" Said Moana in frustration.

Moana wished that she had stayed back on the island and convinced some of the villagers to accompany her. At least then she would have had more support and have other to rely on to back her up. Moana turned her attention to the ocean to get some help or a bit of feedback.

"Ocean I need some kind of help here. I don't know if I have what it takes...to restore the heart, much less get Maui to help me do it." Said Moana.

For several seconds nothing happened. There was no response from the Ocean. Moana let out annoyed sigh as she focused on navigating and practiced what she was going to say to Maui. She and her two animal companions failed to see a group of storm clouds miles away in the distance behind them, slowly begin to head their way.

Meanwhile miles away Ruby and Chelsea were back on their little island again trying to come up with a solution to bringing peace between their families and people. The best new idea the duo had come up with so far was to throw a concert and party in a neutral zone and have a few mermaids and krakens attend it. It seemed like a good idea and had a bit of a better chance of working. Parties and good music tend to bring people together, so maybe it would work with krakens and mermaids. Though Ruby and Chelsea had to be careful about who to invite. The mermaids and krakens had to be open minded about being in the same place together, plus they had to make sure their families didn't find out about the party. Hopefully with the success of the party Ruby and Chelsea could their ways through the rest of their people and convince them to live in peace together.

It felt like a solid plan worth pursuing. After that discussion Ruby and Chelsea just shared what was going on with their families and people.

"I tried to sneak into my people's records and I saw my mother's advisor, a mermaid named Lola looking through some really old notes." Said Chelsea.

"What were they about?" Asked Ruby.

"I asked Lola and she told me there were records before the theft of the heart. A mermaid named Saleen who specialized in song magic created a special kind of music that was apparently incredibly dangerous to krakens. Saleen referred to it as the Instrument of Destruction and hid it away in a unknown location." Said Chelsea.

"Instrument of Destruction, a kind of music dangerous to krakens. You think Lola was trying to find it to use against my people?" Said Ruby.

"I'm guessing so, but I don't think she's found any real leads to it's location, so we don't have to worry about it." Said Chelsea.

"Well that's a relief." Said Ruby.

The two friends then noticed a group of dark storm clouds in the distance making the area very dark and creating a very rough patch of sea. They then noticed something in the middle of the storm.

"What is that?" Asked Chelsea.

"I...think it's a boat." Said Ruby.

"Like a voyaging boat?" Asked Chelsea.

"I thin so. I've heard of human voyaging boats from stories and seen a few pictures, but this is my first time seeing one." Said Ruby.

"I didn't think there were any humans who dared voyage across the sea." Said Chelsea.

After the theft of Te Fiti's heart both the mermaids and the krakens turned their backs on humanity and spent their times fighting each other and fighting sea monsters that attacked their kingdoms. The humans seeing that the ocean was much more dangerous chose to remain on any islands they found and gave up their voyaging ways to live on land.

Ruby and Chelsea were very curious about the boat they now saw and they could just make out a single figure on the boat struggling to stay on and fight against the storm with little success.

"I think we should go help that person." Said Ruby.

"Alright lead the way." Said Chelsea.

Ruby headed into the water already changing into her giant kraken form and Chelsea followed after her turning her legs into a mermaid tail. The two princesses swam towards the boat and the storm.

Moana and her animal companions were not having a good time. The storm had come out of nowhere taking them off their original course and Moana was doing everything she could to fend off the storm and try to escape it, but nothing worked. Moana was getting battered by the wind and rain and Pua and Heihei weren't fairing any better. The young girl had never experienced weather like this and it was taking a toll on her. A gust of wind knocked Pua off the boat and knocked Moana to the deck hard hitting her head. Moana laid on the deck losing consciousness, when she saw a enormous figure rise out of the sea and tower over Moana and her boat. The giant headed towards Moana's boat imitating a bright pink glow as they reached a large hand out to it. Moana feared that she had crossed the territory of some kind of giant sea monster that now planned to eat her, but as it got closer the giant seemed to become less fierce and monstrous.

"Don't worry I got you." Said the giant in a calm and friendly voice as they picked the boat up with ease.

"Kraken...? Pua...?" Groaned Moana looking down at the water below.

Moana saw what appeared to be a girl with red hair carefully holding Pua in the water. The red haired girl appeared to have a fishtail instead of legs.

"Mermaid...?" Said Moana before finally passing out.

"I saved pig that fell off! How's the human doing?" Called Chelsea up to Ruby as she held Pua.

"She passed out. Look likes she got banged up a little bit from the storm." Said Ruby as she carefully held the boat and her bioluminescence glowed.

"Take her shore and I'll see what I can do. I know a little healing magic that might help." Said Chelsea.

"Ok." Said Ruby as she and Chelsea headed back to the island.

Moana had been saved by the princess of the Kraken People and the princess of the Mermaids. None of the three girls knew it yet, but their destinies were linked together and they would soon go on a great journey.

To be continued.
