"I've got ten new cases involving androids on my desk every day. We've always had isolated incidents, old ladies losing their android maids and that kind of crap…" Fowler responded before he turned to them. "But now, we're getting reports of assaults and even homicides, like that guy last night. This isn't just CyberLife's problem anymore, it's now a criminal investigation and we've gotta deal with it before the shit hits the fan. I want you and Leah to investigate these cases and see if there's any link."
"Why us?! Why do Leah and I have to be the ones to deal with this shit?! We're the least qualified cops in the country to handle this case!" Hank protested.
Leah rolled her eyes, Hank looking back at her.
"Don't even start!" Hank warned, Leah narrowing her eyes at him before they turned back to Fowler.
"Everybody's overloaded. I think you two are perfectly qualified for this type of investigation!" Fowler explained before Hank stood up.
"Bullshit! The truth is nobody wants to investigate these fuckin' androids and you left us holdin' the bag!" Hank responded angrily.
"CyberLife sent over this android to help with the investigation. It's a state-of-the-art prototype. It'll act as yours and Leah's partner." Fowler explained.
"No fucking way! We don't need a partner and certainly not this plastic prick!" Hank retorted as he and Fowler glared at each other.
"Hank, you are seriously starting to piss me off! You are a police lieutenant and Leah is an officer now! You are supposed to do what I say and shut your goddamn mouths!" Fowler retorted.
"You know what my goddamn mouth has to say to you?!" Hank replied angrily.
"Would you two fucking stop cussing and yelling at each other?!" Leah shouted, Hank and Fowler looking at her in disbelief and then looking at each other.
"I'll pretend I didn't hear what you and your niece just said because I don't want her disciplinary folder to end up like a fucking novel like yours! Now if you three will excuse me, I have work to do!" Fowler retorted.
Hank growled and stormed out of the office, slamming the door and Connor turning to Fowler.
"I wonder whether Lieutenant Anderson is really the best person for this investigation." Connor spoke up.
"I'm wondering the same thing!" Leah replied, Fowler glaring at them.
"Hey, I don't need a machine and a rookie telling me how to handle my men, okay?! So you and Leah get the fuck out of my office!" Fowler retorted.
Leah and Connor left the office, walking down the carpeted steps and Leah closing her eyes in frustration… and Connor cautiously rested his left hand on her back, Leah opening her eyes.
"Don't stress yourself out, Leah. That won't help." Connor responded quietly.
Leah ^Friend
"Thank you." Leah whispered before they walked back to their desks and sat down, Hank eying them with suspicion before he turned to his computer and Connor looked up at him.
"I'm… sorry I bothered you at the bar last night, Lieutenant. I guess I ruined your evening…" Connor spoke up, Hank rolling his eyes.
"Not the first time someone spilled my drink…" Hank muttered, Leah narrowing her eyes at him before they looked away from each other.
"You two have a dog, right?" Connor asked, Hank and Leah looking up.
"How did you know that?" Hank questioned.
"The dog hairs on your chairs. I like dogs. What's your dog's name?" Connor responded.
Seeing no other choice, Hank looked at him.
"Sumo. We call him Sumo." Hank answered.
Hank ^
"Your music tastes are somewhat similar but full of energy." Connor explained.
Leah ^
"You listen to music?" Leah asked.
"Well, I don't really listen to music, as such… but I'd like to." Connor responded.
Leah smiled slightly and Connor noticed that her stress levels had dropped completely.
"If you have any files on deviants, I'd like to take a look at them…" Connor replied.
"Terminal's on your desk, knock yourself out." Hank responded dryly, Connor accessing his computer and looking through the files.
"243 files… first dates back nine months. It all started in Detroit and quickly spread across the country." Connor replied before he turned to Hank. "An AX400 is reported to have assaulted a man last night. That could be a good starting point for our investigation."
Connor stood up, briefly resting his right hand on Leah's upper back as she stood up and Hank looked at Connor with narrowed eyes.
"I'm only gonna say this one fucking time, keep your hands off my niece!" Hank responded before he looked away and grabbed a tablet.
"If the situation doesn't suit you, Lieutenant, you should ask to be relieved of duties and let me and Leah work together." Connor replied brashly, startling Leah and angering Hank.
"I know exactly what I have to do! So keep your advice to yourself and mind your own business!" Hank retorted.
Watching from his desk, Gavin smirked.
'About fucking time!' Gavin thought.
Moving closer, Connor took the tablet away from Hank.
"I suggest you sort out your personal issues and let me work with someone more competent." Connor threatened.
Hank v
Standing up abruptly, Hank grabbed Connor by his CyberLife blazer and slammed him against the whiteboard.
"Listen, asshole! If it was up to me, I'd throw the lot of you in a dumpster and set a match to it! So, stop pissing me off! Or things are gonna get nasty." Hank threatened before Leah pulled him off of Connor.
"That's enough!" Leah replied angrily as she glared at Hank, neither of them paying attention to Chris walking over to them.
"Lieutenant? Officer?" Chris spoke up, the two looking at him. "I'm sorry to disturb you. I have some information on the AX400 that attacked the guy last night... it's been seen in the Ravendale district." He explained.
"We're on it." Hank responded before he, Leah and Connor walked outside.
The drive to Ravendale was silent aside from I Just Wanna Live by Good Charlotte playing on the radio after Leah switched the radio station.
'That's Gavin's influence on you, kid.' Hank thought as Leah briefly closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Reaching the supermarket in Ravendale, they unbuckled and got out of the car before Hank locked the doors and Leah noticed the bus stop nearby before she walked to the driver and showed her badge.
"My license and registration are up to date, Officer." The bus driver responded.
"I'm not here about that, I'm looking for an AX400." Leah explained.
"Oh… yeah, she got onto the bus late last night with a little girl just as I stopped in Corktown." The bus driver answered.
"Thank you for letting me know, Sir." Leah replied before the bus driver walked into the supermarket and Leah walked to Hank's car, grabbing the scanner.
"Officer Anderson to dispatch, Todd Williams needs to be brought back in for questioning. His AX400 ran off with a little girl last night." Leah spoke up.
Having heard that as he was still at the precinct, Gavin pulled Todd's file and pulled up a picture of a little girl before he grabbed his own scanner.
"Red, kid's name is Alice Williams… but the strange thing is she was last seen on September 29th 2033 crossing the Canadian border with her mother Lori Williams." Gavin explained.
"He bought a child android… son of a bitch!"
The nearby cops went silent after hearing that… and Gavin turned back to the scanner.
"I'll drive out to Corktown, Red." Gavin responded before he grabbed his gun and put it in his jeans pocket.
The medical bracelet that she wore would always be a reminder of one of the worst nights of their lives.
