(A/N: I only own my OCs. This overall work consists of multichaps and oneshots, I'll do my best to differentiate. TW in this chap for active shooting at a school. I also am taking requests for one-shots or mini-fics for the brothers)

Title: School History

Connor's pov

I was in the middle of eight-grade Math when things took a turn for the worst, scaring me to my very core. An active school shooting, right here in this building. Gang- related. My Mom had died this in this exact same way when I was not even two years old. And now with cops and detectives flooding the scene to save the day, I should be calmer, but I was quite the opposite. My family was nearly fully comprised of NYPD blood. My Dad killed by crooked cops, my brother being one of the Detectives called to the scene right now... What if this time around, I lost my brother too? I silently and almost robotically followed the rest of my class as we got in the designated barricaded positions and fell silent. But I caught a small sighting of a mop of unruly chocolate curls. My brother was here. That was calming, and at the same time alarming. Please, please let him be ok...

Joe's pov

My blood had been boiling when I realized the shooter call was for Connor's school. I was angry regardless, but this just hit a lot closer. I caught a relief-inducing glimpse of him, safely barricaded in his math classroom. I was heading up the SWAT team that was neutralizing the scene, and we soon had a precise location on the shooter. Three doors down from my baby brother. I gripped my Glock a little bit harder, anger pulsing in my veins. I forced myself to calm down, needing to be able to effectively carry out the job with absolutely no collateral damage. Indicating where the rest of my team was to go, we soon had the perp surrounded and disarmed. I cuffed him and spoke

"Attacking a SCHOOL?! Are you out of your MIND?!"

He just laughed like a maniac, enjoying what he almost caused. I shuffled him over to one of my officers, knowing it was the best way to keep him alive until Uncle Danny had him in his clutches inside the box. Now that business was taken care of, I turned to go find my brother. As it turned out, I did not have to go looking for him, he ran into my arms just as he had when we first met a year ago. I held him close

"You ok, Connor?"
He nodded into the crook of my neck

"A bit close to home, but yeah. You?"

I nodded

"You're ok, my team is ok. I'm ok."

He nodded

"Good. Think we can go for ice cream to regroup after this? After your debrief, I mean."

I nodded

"Absolutely. I just let the fam know we're all ok."

And so after my work was truly done, my brother and I went for ice cream. And if I held him a bit tighter and closer than usual? Either he didn't notice, or he did not care in that moment. My money's on the latter.
