Epilogue.
A lot had happened in one year.
Maya and Claudine had made good on their mutual promise to seek professional help. They had both started attending therapy sessions; some individual, and some joint, and had both started to engage in healthier, more positive activities to help improve their mindsets.
The progress had been gradual, but evident.
They had established their romantic relationship and revealed it to those closest to them. Though Maya had kept Claudine's name from her parents at first, she had revealed that she was dating someone.
The most prominent news had come about half a year after their confession.
Maya had been contacted by the local authorities she and her parents had been working with for the past three and a half years.
And the Tendos had been told that their tormentors had been put away.
After a thorough investigation, the international authorities had located every member of the Yakuza group that had threatened Maya and her parents, and located sufficient evidence of that crime, as well as numerous others.
All in all, they had been told that the group in question had been completely compromised and locked away for life.
Essentially, from that day forward, Maya and her parents were free again.
Of course, they could not simply dive back into their old lives as if nothing had ever happened. But they were able to go about their days without looking over their shoulders, or doing constant check-ins with the police. Maybe someday, they would even be able to take back their old name.
But as things were, both Maya and her parents were entirely comfortable with their new lives in France, so they had no immediate plans to alter that at the time.
Of course, Claudine and Maya had celebrated.
They'd taken time off work and traveled without the fear of being potentially pursued. They'd seen all the major landmarks of France, and even gone into other parts of Europe to vacation.
And when they had returned home, Maya had received another blessing.
Claudine had managed to get her a meeting with a producer at Theatre du Flamme. And after several follow-up meetings and interviews, they had eagerly accepted Maya onboard.
Leaving behind her more stifling profession of script-writing, Maya had instead joined Claudine's troupe as a rehearsal instructor.
It was a job that allowed Maya to fulfill her heart's greatest desires. She could dance, sing, and act, all while teaching others how to do the same.
She was able to show off her impeccable skills which she had honed for the majority of her life, while also leading and inspiring her fellow performers.
And she got to do so while working directly alongside Claudine.
It isn't long after that when they officially move in together.
And even sooner after that, Maya takes back her family name.
And not only does she take it back, but she chooses to share it…
. . .
. . .
. . .
"All right, splendid job, everyone! Please rest properly and prepare for tomorrow. Dismissed."
Maya's voice rings out strongly across the massive studio. The men and women before her all clap and disperse to the corners of the room to get their towels and water bottles.
"Heads up!"
Maya is alerted to the bottle being tossed her way. Smirking, she gives a full-body spin before reaching out to grab it perfectly. There's a huff.
"Pff. Show-off."
Claudine comes to join her, slinging a small towel over Maya's head to ruffle the sweat off her forehead.
"Geez. You still look so good even when you're a hot mess. As expected from a Tendo."
Maya chuckles, shaking herself free of the towel to give her a bemused look.
"Careful now," she hums. "As a future Tendo yourself, you wouldn't want to taunt your own name, now would you?"
"Who said I was taunting?"
Claudine takes a handful of Maya's leotard at her collar and pulls her in for a brief kiss.
"Come on. I heard that gluttonous stomach of yours. Let's go eat."
Maya chuckles again, dipping down to peck her cheek.
"Of course."
Their matching rings glint beneath the bright lights as they head out of the studio together.
A/N: And happy (married/engaged) ending as it should be! Sorry if you thought the Yakuza was actually going to play a part in this. That plot was solely created to establish Maya's 'death' and separation from Claudine, which would lead to the dramatic reunion. It was more about the two of them than anything else, of course. And now that they've sought help together, they are improving their lives one day at a time!
Thank you so much for reading! Keep an eye out for my next work!
