1 WEEK LATER (3 DAYS BEFORE THE CHUNIN EXAMS)

Chapter 9: The Beginning of the Chunin Exams

The room was quiet yet filled with the presence of shinobi, each one seasoned and sharp, as the Hokage stood above them, ready to address the matter at hand. The air was thick with anticipation and the weight of unspoken words, all eyes fixed on the figure who held the authority and respect of everyone present.

"Thank you everyone for coming, and my apologies for the late hour of this meeting," the Hokage began, his voice steady and commanding, echoing off the chamber walls. "Such is the nature of our duties. Regardless, we have important matters to discuss. Before me stand four Elite Jonin. I need to know if your teams are prepared to participate in this year's Chunin Exams."

The Hokage's gaze swept across the four Jonin, each one representing a team of Genin who had trained rigorously for this moment. The first to step forward was Kurenai Yuhi, her crimson eyes reflecting both determination and concern.

"Lord Hokage, I Kurenai Yuhi believe that Team 8 is ready," Kurenai said firmly. "Hinata Hyuga, Kiba Inuzuka, and Shino Aburame have shown remarkable progress. They've trained hard, and I believe they're prepared to face the challenges of the Chunin Exams."

The Hokage nodded thoughtfully. "Very well, Kurenai. I trust your judgment. Their abilities will be put to the test, and I hope they will rise to the occasion."

Next, Asuma Sarutobi stepped forward, with a confident yet respectful air about him. He had a reputation for being both laid-back and fiercely protective of his students.

"Lord Hokage, I Asuma Sarutobi, believe that Team 10 is ready as well," Asuma declared. "Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka, and Choji Akimichi have grown significantly as a team. Their coordination and individual skills have improved greatly. I have no doubt they can handle what lies ahead."

The Hokage's eyes twinkled with a hint of pride. "Excellent, Asuma. The Ino-Shika-Cho trio has a strong legacy. I look forward to seeing how they perform."

Kakashi Hatake, the renowned Copy Ninja, was next. His demeanor was as casual as ever, but there was a seriousness in his lone visible eye that spoke volumes.

"Team 7 is prepared as well," Kakashi said, his voice calm. "Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno have all shown exceptional growth. They've faced numerous challenges and overcome them. I believe they're ready for this next step."

The Hokage regarded Kakashi with a knowing smile. "Team 7 has always been unique. I trust your judgment, Kakashi. They will undoubtedly bring something special to the exams."

Lastly, Might Guy, the embodiment of youthful energy and enthusiasm, stepped forward with his trademark exuberance.

"I, Might Guy believe Team 9 is ready for this year's Chunin Exams," declared, his voice brimming with enthusiasm. "Lee, Neji Hyuga, and Tenten Higurashi have trained relentlessly. Their dedication and spirit are unmatched. I'm confident they will excel in the Chunin Exams."

The Hokage couldn't help but smile at Guy's boundless energy. "Thank you, Guy. Your team's dedication is commendable. I look forward to witnessing their performance."

With all four Jonin having spoken, the Hokage addressed the room once more. "Very well. The Chunin Exams will proceed as planned. I trust all of you to support your students and guide them through this critical phase of their shinobi careers. Remember, the exams are not just about individual skill, but about teamwork, strategy, and resilience."

The room was silent, the weight of the Hokage's words sinking in. Each Jonin understood the gravity of the exams and the responsibility they bore for their students.

"Are there any questions or concerns?" the Hokage asked, his gaze sweeping the room.

"Yes, I have one for all of you," said Iruka. Kakashi turned around slightly to acknowledge what he had to say.

"Are you even sure about this? The fact that everyone nominated your teams in such is short amount of time is no short of something that could go wrong," he said worriedly.

Kakashi turned around fully now to Iruka, "Listen Iruka I know that they used to be your students but they are now our soldiers. I was way younger than Naruto when I entered anyway," he said nonchalantly.

"Naruto is nothing like you, and thank god for that," he said.

"Alright, that is enough. I understand your concerns Iruka but you will have to accept them as they have already been nominated," said Hiruzen. Iruka just nodded and stepped back into the crowd of Chunin and Jonin.

"Here are the papers for them to sign up and remember they are in 3 days from now in Room 301 at the academy. Dismissed," he said standing up.

THE FOLLOWING MORNING

Team 7 as per usual is waiting at their Training Ground for their sensei to show up. Was it annoying he was always two hours late? Yes. Did they get used to it by now? For the most part. The three of them had been on this routine for the past few months now and it was a part of everyone's day.

It was then Kakashi teleported in front of them. "You're late Kakashi-sensei!" yelled Sakura.

"That was my fault I mixed my whites with reds this morning and had to change out my clothes," he said eye-smiling. Naruto chuckled slightly while Sasuke grunted.

"You don't even have white clothes!" she yelled back.

"Anyway sorry for being blunt but I have signed you all up for the Chunin Exams," he said handing out the slips to everyone. Naruto was excited as well as Sasuke who showed a smirk on his lips while Sakura was unsure of herself.

"Hey now listen though, you all have to make this decision on your own. This is all up to you. And if you so please do the Chunin exams in 2 days. You will meet at in Room 301 at 8 am. Good luck to you all and we will not have team meet-ups until then, Bye bye," he said disappearing into a cloud of smoke.

As the smoke dissipated, the three young ninjas were left standing with their thoughts. The gravity of the upcoming Chunin Exams weighed heavily on their minds, though each processed it differently.

Naruto, as always, was brimming with enthusiasm. "This is it! This is our chance to show everyone what we're made of!" he exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

Sakura, however, was lost in a whirl of uncertainty. She glanced at her slip, biting her lower lip. "I don't know if I'm ready," she admitted softly. "I mean, you two have improved so much. I'm just not sure if I'm on the same level."

Naruto replied to her, "Well then you should train before the Exams. You got time," he said before walking off. Sakura turned to Sasuke to speak but he was also walking off in the other direction. She sighed knowing it was another day of the same old things where Naruto and Sasuke didn't talk to her.

Naruto continues walking along the path of the road receiving glares. He looked at the Chunin exam paper to see the words Parental Signature, on the bottom and huffed.

"Of course, it has that on the bottom," he said flatly. His ears picked up something behind him to see a box following him. He was trying his hardest not to laugh at the Konohamaru's friends group following him. He turned the corner to get behind them and he silently hopped on the box. They started to struggle under the box when Konohamaru said, "Hey where did Naruto go?"

Naruto pulled the box off of them and landed in front of them surprising them, "Guys you got to do way better than that."

Udon pouted and kicked the ground, "You are no fun boss."

Moegi spoke up this time, "Boss, we were wondering if you could play with us today. We haven't seen you in like…a long time."

Naruto tapped his finger on his chin, "And what did you all have in mind," he asked.

"Ninja," said Konohamaru.

"Now that I can do. So how about when you guys are running you…" he was cut off from Sakura down the street.

"Jeez, Naruto, a ninja playing ninja," she said mockingly.

Konohamaru looked over at Sakura and said to Naurto, "Isn't this the girl you used to have a crush on."

"Yeah, I used to," he said looking at Sakura. Sakura didn't know how to feel about this. He had a crush on her for years. She was happy yet felt like something was missing. It was likely why he wasn't ogling at her like usual.

"Well, that was a good thing you did boss because that forehead sticks out more than your whiskers," he said laughably. Naruto felt anger presence from Sakura and looked at Konohamaru.

"Kono, run," he said pushing him.

"What do you mean boss," he said looking confused.

"That means kick it into high gear and move your ass!" he said pointing at Sakura.

Sakura muttered the words, "You're dead." She bolted at him and the group started to run away.

Naruto sighed and rubbed a hand on her face. "Good lord," he said jogging after them. He heard in the distance some squabbling and sighed again. He turned the corner to see a guy with a cat hood and Temari standing a little ways away. Naruto was happy to see her again but the guy was holding Konohamaru in a threatening position.

"Well well well, Temari, nice to see you again," he said as he was in front of the group now.

"Oh, Naruto Uzumaki, sorry to catch you at a time like this but my brother, Kankuro is doing…something," she said gesturing towards him.

"Listen, buddy, could you please put him down," Naruto asked.

"No way in hell am I putting him down. This runt ran into me. He'll get what is coming," he said cocking his fist back.

Kankuro then felt an arm wrap around his body and looked to see Naruto there, "Now listen, I know that you felt threatened by a kid that isn't even in double digits yet but I am letting you know now that he is the grandson of the 3rd Hokage, and believe me when I say you will be in big trouble when something happens. I mean I am sure that if someone were to mess you back home it wouldn't go unpunished." Everyone had one thought, and that was how fast Naruto would go if he could get next to Kankuro in less than a second from 12 feet away.

Temari walked up and smacked Kankuro on the back of the head, "You idiot, are you trying to get us kicked out of here before we even get into the Exams." Kankuro dropped him and Konohomaru hid behind Naruto. But first, "You can come down Sasuke," he said looking up at the tree. Everyone looked to where Naruto was looking and sure enough Sasuke dropped to the ground slightly annoyed.

"How the hell you see me dobe?" he asked looking at him.

"I saw some red in the corner of my eyes when I had my arm over makeup boy over there and low and behold it was you," he said pointing at Kankuro.

Kankuro's eyes started twitching, "Listen here man, it is. War. Paint. Plain and simple."

"It looks like you went and got into your sister's makeup box and put it on," he said looking at Temari. "Then again Temari looks too pretty anyway so I doubt she has any. Did you get it from some random chick or something?"

Temari coughed and hid a blush by turning around while Sakura was shocked he openly flittered with her in front of her. Kankuro growled in anger and started to pull out the thing on his back. Temari looked shocked and tried to stop her brother.

"Kankuro are you seriously going to use Karuso here? What if he shows up," she said.

"Who cares, what if he comes back and…" he was cut off by a Body Flicker of Sand right in front of him.

"Kankuro…you are a disgrace to our village." Everyone froze when they heard the voice.

"Gaara? How did you?"

"He was in the branch next to the teme. Surprised he didn't see him," said Naruto. Sasuke was slightly shocked by the new arrival and Naruto also knew he was there. Gaara turned around to see the boy with the whisker marks.

"You…what is your name? I didn't…get it last time," he said staring at Naruto.

"Sasuke Uchiha," said Sasuke butting in.

"Not you, him," he said pointing at Naruto.

"My name is Naruto Uzumaki," he said seriously.

Gaara's eyes narrowed slightly, examining Naruto with an intensity that made everyone else uneasy. "Naruto Uzumaki," he repeated as if committing the name to memory. "You're different. Mother says you're different. We will meet again. You better be ready."

The tension in the air was palpable, and even Sasuke, who was rarely intimidated, felt the weight of it. Temari stepped forward, her demeanor more cautious now. "We should go, Gaara. We don't want any trouble before the exams."

Gaara didn't respond immediately. He continued to stare at Naruto as if searching for something. Then, without another word, he turned and began to walk away. Kankuro and Temari quickly followed, with Kankuro casting one last glare at Naruto and the others.

As they disappeared from view, Sakura let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding. "That was intense," she muttered.

Sasuke glanced at Naruto. "How did you know he was there?"

Naruto shrugged. "I felt him there and saw the red hair in the trees."

Sakura frowned. "What was that all about? And why did he seem so interested in you, Naruto?"

"I don't know," Naruto admitted. "Guess we will find out but I am gonna go. See you two in a couple of days," he said waving and walking with Konohamaru and the others. Sasuke just looked between Gaara and Naruto with a look of curiosity in his eyes as the two walked in opposite directions.

2 DAYS LATER

Naruto walked down the bustling street to the academy. This was the first time in a long time that he was excited about something. He looked forward to showing his skills and seeing how much he has improved from where he was a few months ago. He traversed through the people and looked at the passing clocks to make sure that he wouldn't be late for the first Exam. It took him 10 minutes but he made it with 10 minutes to spare. He saw Sasuke and Sakura waiting for him as he approached the entrance.

"You two ready to dominate the competition?" asked Naruto.

"Always," said Sasuke.

"Maybe," said Sakura unsure.

"You'll be fine Sakura. Did you train the past couple of days like I said?"

"Yeah, I did. I refined a lot of the stuff I have been doing," she said looking at him open the academy door.

"Then you'll be fine," he replied to her.

The three of them started to walk up the stairwell when they heard a bit of commotion going on. There seemed to be a bunch of Genin around the door that said 301 on it but Naruto knew we were on the second floor. He looked at Sasuke who looked at him and he realized that he caught onto what it was too. Naruto looked to see two individuals guarding the way and it looked like younger versions of Kotetsu and Izumo. He could not help but sweatdrop slightly because they could have at least done better. Then again most people didn't know who these two were because they weren't at the Gates of the Village most of the time.

He saw that Tenten was on the ground after she was pushed to the ground but that didn't stop her from asking for entry. "You guys can't just bar us entry. We all have the right to take the exams."

"Well, maybe we think you are weak and you aren't ready for this," said Izumo.

Tenten was going to get up when she felt two arms under her. She looked up to see Naruto smiling and helping her up. He whispered in her ear, "I see what you guys are doing and it's a good idea." Sasuke stood beside Naruto and called out to the two standing in front of the door.

"You guys can drop the lousy Genjutsu, we say through it the moment we walk through the door," he said confidently. Naruto facepalmed with Tenten giving a deadpan look. "Well, I guess your teammate didn't catch on."

Kotetsu dropped the Genjutsu and smirked. "Looks like you are one of the few to see through this thing, but can you see through this?" Kotetsu sent a kick right at Sasuke but Sasuke sent a first right at him. Both were stopped by Rock Lee who moved with immense speed.

"How about we save the youthful fighting for later," he said dropping his hands.

"Lee was it not your idea to "lay low," said Neji. Naruto patted Tenten's shoulder and said, "Looks like we don't have smart teammates." Naruto walked over to Sasuke slightly annoyed hitting his shoulder, "Teme, what the hell is wrong with you? The literal point was to knock out some people for the exams."

"What the hell do you mean? I am just showing how much better we are than everyone else. Even you saw it and you were the deadlast," he retorted.

Naruto's eyes twitched at that but he kept his composure, "Sasuke. fewer teams means less competition. Less competition means you are more likely to become a Chunin and have fewer problems down the road. You know what, whatever. Let's just move on," he said walking away. But before then, Lee stopped Sasuke before he could follow him.

Sasuke turned to face Lee, his eyes narrowing slightly. "What do you want?"

Lee bowed respectfully. "I wish to challenge you, Sasuke Uchiha."

Sasuke raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "Why?"

Lee straightened up, his eyes gleaming with determination. "I have heard of your strength and your skill with the Sharingan. I want to test my abilities against you."

Naruto, who had paused to watch the exchange, crossed his arms, "This should be interesting, but we don't have time for this Sasuke."

Sasuke smirked, stepping forward. "You are just jealous he challenges me and not you."

"If you want to get your ass kicked so bad be my guest," he said still waiting.

The two Genin made their way to a room and Sakura grabbed Sasuke's arm before entering, "Be careful, Sasuke," she whispered. Naruto sighed and threw up his hands. "Guys I am going to go ahead. We have 5 minutes," he said walking off.

Naruto walked up the stairs and down the hall to see Kakashi ready for his book waiting for them. Kakashi glanced over the book to only see Naruto and was confused. "Ah Naruto, good to see you. Where are Sasuke and Sakura?"

"Sasuke accepted a fight and didn't want to be late for the exams so if he is late. It isn't my fault." Kakashi just nodded and went back to his book. 2 minutes later a bruised Sasuke and worried Sakura were in tow with Sasuke glaring at Naruto.

Kakashi closed his book and placed it in his pouch eye-smiling. "Good, we are all here. The truth is you needed the whole team or all three of you to enter. I only said it in a way to make sure not to pressure you and that it was all of your choice." The three Genin nodded and continued to listen. "The exams will be tough but I firmly believe that you all will pass and do well. Even if some of you don't become Chunin. So good luck to all of you," he said dispelling in smoke. Sasuke was the first to step up to the door.

"Well, time to show them what we are made of I guess," he said pushing the large double doors. What was revealed to them was a room filled with occupants and Genin teams from across nations to become Chunin.

Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura walked into the room filled with an intense atmosphere. It was clear that everyone present was serious about the Chunin Exams. The room was buzzing with murmurs and glares as Genin from various villages sized each other up. Naruto even saw the Sand Siblings in the far corner of the room.

Sakura tugged on Naruto's sleeve, pointing to another corner of the room. "Look, there's Team Guy. They beat us here."

Sure enough, Rock Lee, Neji Hyuga, and Tenten were there, Lee gave them a thumbs up their way and Naruto reciprocated.

Ino looked to see Naruto and smiled running over, "Naruto! Good to see you, looks like we aren't the only ones taking the exams."

"What is it with blondes and loudness? I swear to god there has to be some type of correlation," said Shikamaru walking over with Chouji behind munching on a bag of chips.

"Well, I'll be damned. All the Rookie 9 are here," said Kiba coming in and landing in front of them. Hinata came from behind Kiba waving at Naruto slightly blushing. Shino appeared from behind as well with his hands in his jacket looking at Shikamaru.

"Blondes are not the only loud ones I am afraid, Shikamaru-san," he said getting a glare from the Inuzuka.

"Don't you guys think that you are making too loud of an entrance?" said a boy with white hair and glasses. Sasuke looked at him and asked, "Who are you?"

"The name is Kabuto Yakushi." Kabuto adjusted his glasses, a confident smirk playing on his lips. "It seems you all are first-timers, huh? The rookie teams from Konoha."

Naruto looked at Kabuto, curious but cautious. "Yeah, so what if we are? We're ready to take on whatever the exams throw at us."

Kabuto chuckled. "I admire your spirit, but let me give you a piece of advice. These exams are not just about strength; they're about strategy and information. You also need to watch yourself as most people do not like the Leaf Village. Speaking of information."

He reached into his pouch and pulled out a set of cards. "These are my ninja info cards. They contain data on many of the participants in these exams. Would you like to see it?"

Sasuke's interest was piqued. "Show us."

"Actually how about if you tell me about some of the occupants in the room or you may know and I could get that for you," said twiddling with a card.

Sasuke debated on who to say and said the thought of who to choose. "Gaara of the Sand, Rock Lee of the Leaf…" "He looked at Naruto and smiled, "And Naruto Uzumaki." Naruto threw him a ticked-off look but

Kabuto shuffled through the cards and pulled one out. "Here, this is one of Gaara of the Sand, from the Hidden Sand Village." He placed the card on the ground, and with a flick of his wrist, the card's surface illuminated, displaying detailed information about Gaara. "As you can see, he's completed several missions and has an unusual record—he's never been injured in combat."

Naruto's eyes widened. He had actual information on other people in the exam. That could be useful but what if he had classified information? He would have to wait to see what he would say about himself.

"Gaara is a formidable opponent," Kabuto continued. "His abilities are exceptional, even among the Sand Village's elite. You should be cautious if you encounter him."

Shikamaru was surprised at this, "How do you have his much info?"

"This is the 7th time I have taken the exams," he said calmly.

Kiba chuckling, "Do you suck that much or something."

"Oh, I assure you that I don't. The exams are that difficult," he said smirking.

"Something that isn't difficult though are those Sound Nin over there. They are a new village but they are nothing too important so I can say for certain to not worry over them."

Sasuke nodded. "What about Rock Lee?" he said panning his gaze to the green spandex-wearing ninja across the room.

Kabuto shuffled through his cards again and pulled out several. "Here's Rock Lee. Rock Lee specializes in taijutsu and has incredible speed and strength. That is all he can use as he can not use Genjutsu or Ninjutsu. I dare say that he is one of the best Taijutsu users in the room and no one may come close to that. However, with this his weakness is not being able to use long-range attacks as he has to fight enemies in a close range," he said confidently.

Sasuke nodded, taking in the information. "What about the dobe?"

Kabuto pulled out the third and final card showing Naruto's information. Naruto wanted to listen in on this guy and he walked over closer to Kabuto's direction. Naruto took in a breath and smelt something odd…snakes. Naruto wiped his nose trying to get rid of the smell but it didn't go away. He took another breath near Kabuto's direction and the smell got stronger.

"Kid, you should be careful around him," said Kurama.

"That's him that smells like that. Why snakes of all things? How am I smelling it like that? Is it because you enhanced my senses again? Why didn't I smell it before," he asked.

"Yes, it is. You didn't smell it before because I enhance your "sixth sense" if you will call it that more than the other main five. This time I enhance your main five senses primarily. But as for snakes, you have read it in some books before about a few weeks back. That Sannin. Orochimaru."

"There's…no way," he said shocked.

"Yes, way. It stated in that book that he is one of the very few ever to have the Snake Summoning contract meaning that this kid either has it or he works with him."

"Wait…you were reading with me," he asked surprised.

"I get bored ok? No time for judging me but you need to listen to this Kabuto kid," he said.

Naruto focused back on the card that Kabuto had displayed and listened. "Naruto Uzumaki. He failed the graduation exam 3 times before earning a battlefield promotion to Genin by the Third Hokage. He has completed 95 D-rank missions, 1 C-rank mission, and 2 A-rank missions which is one more than his other two teammates. He also successfully took out a B-rank missing-nin from the Cloud. Ryota of the Lightning Legs."

That sealed the deal for Naruto. Only the old man, Kakashi-sensei, himself, and Iruka-sensei knew of the A-rank mission with Mizuki. Not to mention the Battlefield Promotion he received. The old man said that it would be classified information to his classmates and he just provided that to him.

Sasuke was slightly irritated. How the hell did Naruto get another A-rank mission? That and this was confirmed the he took out a missing-nin. He should be ranking in the accolades, not the dobe.

"Naruto Uzumaki also has a wide variety of abilities. He has one Taijutsu style: The Hummingbird Fist and is Level 2 in Sealing. He has a variety of Ninjutsu such as three elemental affinities Water, Wind, and Earth. He is well-versed in being able to use throwing weapons and can use the academy jutsu besides the Clone jutsu without hand seals. He can even use the Shadow Clone jutsu. Something only Jonin is typically capable of doing," he said looking at him. While most were in awe of his achievements and stats thus far. Naruto had his eyes narrowed at Kabuto. He wanted to know how he had information on him. Especially to this extent. He was shaken out of his thoughts by Sasuke.

"Naruto how the hell did you get another A-rank mission without us? On top of that when did you learn three different affinities," he said angrily.

He didn't have time to answer as Sound Ninja teleported over hitting Kabuto. Kabuto jumped out of the way avoiding the attack but was still hit as he coughed up blood. The attacker chuckled slightly. "That'll show you to underestimate us."

A few puffs of smoke appeared causing everyone to look on at the man with a scarred face. "I would suggest that you stop the fighting now you will be eliminated from these exams." The Sound Nin with the gauntlet backed away from Kabuto who was walking away towards his team.

With that, the large double doors opened, and the intimidating proctor with a scarred face stepped in. "Welcome to the Chunin Exams," he announced, his voice commanding the attention of everyone in the room. "My name is Ibiki Morino, and I will be your proctor for the first stage of the exam. Follow me, and we'll get started."

The tension in the room escalated as the Genin teams followed Ibiki down a series of hallways to a large examination hall filled with rows of desks. The participants were instructed to take their seats and wait for further instructions.

Everyone was given numbers and told to sit where those numbers were. Not a single person from the same time was next to each other, however. Naruto and Hinata were the only ones to know each other that were next to each other.

Ibiki stood at the front of the room, surveying the crowd of eager and nervous faces. "The first part of the Chunin Exams will be a written test," he announced, causing a collective groan from many of the participants. "The rules are simple but strict. You will have one hour to complete the test. The rules are as follows: The written test consists of ten questions. Each team starts with a perfect score of 30 points (10 points per member). Every incorrect answer results in a deduction of points from the team's total score."

"Cheating is strictly forbidden. The proctors will be watching closely, and any attempt to cheat will be penalized. Each time a candidate is caught cheating, the entire team loses two points. After five infractions, the entire team will be expelled from the exam. The exam room must remain silent. No talking or communicating with others during the test."

Everyone was feeling the pressure now. Team 7 especially, Sasuke and Sakura were staring at the back of Naruto's head intently. Naruto was sweating slightly too. He might've gotten smarter in the past few months but this was the Chunin Exams. These questions weren't going to be a cakewalk.

As Ibiki's words echoed through the hall, a palpable tension gripped the room. Naruto shifted uncomfortably in his seat, glancing sideways at Hinata, who gave him an encouraging smile. Despite her nerves, she seemed determined to offer him support. Naruto felt a surge of determination; he couldn't let his team down, especially with both Sasuke and Sakura counting on him but more importantly himself.

Ibiki continued, "Now, listen carefully. There are 9 questions on the paper being passed out. The final question will be given at the 45-minute mark. You may choose not to answer it, but if you do, it will have severe consequences for your team if answered incorrectly. For now, focus on the nine questions before you."

The room fell into a tense silence as the proctors distributed the test papers. Naruto stared at the paper in front of him, the questions blurring together in his mind. He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself, remembering his training and the growth he had experienced over the past months.

THE JONIN LOUNGE

The 4 Senseis of the Konoha 12 were around each other talking. Kurenai asked a question she had been wanting to know for a while now. "Say who is the Proctor for the 1st part of the Exams?"

"Ibiki Morino," said a blonde-haired Special Jonin.

Asuma looked to the door to see Inojin Yamanaka walk in pouring some coffee. "Say, kid. I thought you were supposed to be helping with the exams."

"I am. Anko asked me to get some coffee for everyone and myself so that when the first exams are over everyone has something to drink," he said filling up a cup. Asuma nodded and Kurenai asked another question.

"What is he like?"

"He is someone that you don't want to mess with but from my experience and from my Dad's experience. He is one of the most mentally tough people in the village," he chuckled slightly.

"He doesn't like it, but I call him Mr. Mind Games from time to time. Ibiki-sensei's demeanor is cold and calculating, often striking fear into those who face him. He has his intimidating exterior, he is highly intelligent and skilled in psychological tactics, capable of understanding and manipulating the minds of others with ease. So all I am saying is that my sister and you Genin will have a heck of a time," he said carrying the other coffees back with him.

"It does not matter. My team will shine with youth to the finish line," exclaimed Guy. Asuma sighed at his friend's antics. Kakashi just looked away from him to avoid eye contact.

THE EXAM ROOM

Naruto looked over the first question, which was an advanced mathematical problem involving trajectory calculations for kunai throws. Naruto frowned, scratching his head. He knew he wasn't the best at this kind of problem, but he couldn't afford to panic. He glanced around the room, seeing other participants furiously scribbling down answers or staring blankly at their papers.

He looked out of the corner of his eye and saw Tenten was fiddling with something and Lee tied his headband around his head. Something was going on and other people were doing it too.

"Can't believe I'm doing this, but let me think about this," he thought.

"Don't do it too much or you will get an aneurysm," chuckled Kurama.

"Shut it fox. This Ibiki guy said there are a total of 10 questions for 10 points but that 10th question won't come till later. He also said no cheating and if you are caught cheating you will have points deducted. But why only two points? If you cheated in Iruka-sensei's class you were kicked out on the spot, no excuses."

Naruto looked out of the corners of his eyes and sure enough, he saw Sasuke with a red glint in his eyes meaning he was using his Sharingan. He even saw Hinata use her Byukugan to look ahead. Naruto looked back at his paper and he could only answer one of the questions. These questions were similar to the ones that the old academy teachers would give him when they were trying to force him to have bad grades.

"Wait. These questions are just as hard as the ones back when I was in the academy. Meaning these questions are legitimately hard. This means this Ibiki guy wants us to see if we can gather information without being caught. That is why when we are caught a certain number of times we are done. Kinda like scouting an enemy village. If you are caught you can be captured or worse," Naruto thought.

"Holy hell kid. You actually were able to figure it out. I thought I had to help you," said a surprised Kurama.

"Do you have that little faith in me or what?" asked a slumped-over Naruto.

"Maybe but how do you plan on getting your information? You don't exactly have any skills to cheat," asked Kurama curiously.

"Good question," he said looking at the clock in the front. 10 minutes have passed since the proctor spoke. He looked back to see Sakura give him a look of encouragement in which he nodded to her. The pressure of people getting kicked out around him wasn't helping either. He looked to his right and a couple of rows back he saw Shikamaru writing what looked like the 7th question. He had answers to almost any question. An idea popped into his head.

"Uh, Kurama. He said you have 5 times to cheat at the most right?"

"Yes, what of it," he said waiting for what he had to say.

"Then how about I wait for Shikamaru to finish his paper and then take it," he said revealing his idea.

"Kid that is a horrible idea."

"No, it isn't, think about it. I will only be caught once. Then I write down the answers and give it back to him,"

"That…is…a fair point. That takes a lot of balls but it might work. The Proctor didn't say anything about that, so go for it." Naruto mentally nodded and awaited for Shikamaru to be done. In the front of the room, Ibiki was staring intently at Naruto. He was reading his facial expressions and he knew that he had a plan but as to what he did not know.

"So this is the kid Inoichi told me about. He hasn't been caught once and neither has his teammates. But then again he hasn't done much on his paper. He only answered one question. What is he planning?" he thought narrowing his him. Naruto saw that Shikamaru placed his pencil down and leaned back in his chair sighing.

Naruto made a Shadow Clone and walked over to the table grabbing Shikamaru's test to the real Naruto. The clone dispersed and Naruto started to write down the answers. Everyone had all their eyes on Naruto. The only Chunin and Jonin on the sidelines who wanted to scan for cheaters didn't know what to think. Even Ibiki had his eyebrow cocked at this. After a few minutes, Naruto copied the answers and made another Shadow Clone to give the test back to Shikamaru.

Ibiki was now curious about what his idea was. "Say kid what do you think you are doing?" he asked rather quietly yet intimidating.

The real Naruto answered, "Ah I am glad that you asked. You see I did cheat. That was pretty obvious as everyone saw it but I only was caught once."

Ibiki was giving him a cold glare but in his mind, he applauded the kid's quick thinking. The clone gave the paper back and then dispersed. A grinning Naruto sat in his seat and everyone was waiting for Ibiki to answer after about a few seconds of silence. Ibiki started to chuckle until it turned into a hearty laugh. To everyone else, it sounded more forced than anything.

"As the proctor, I will allow it. However, anyone else who does this will be eliminated from the exams," he barked out to the others. Sasuke just stared silently impressed at Naruto. He had a lot more confidence that they would pass this first part. Sakura let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She thought Naruto would bomb the test but now they should be good.

Sasuke still staring at Naruto nodded his head slightly, "Even if he ticks me off, that was pretty smart, I'll give him that much," he thought.

Soon enough the 45-minute mark was upon the Chunin Exam contestants. After several people were eliminated there were still quite a few people in the room. Ibiki was getting ready to speak once more.

"Alright with all of you in the room we have reached the 45-minute mark. That means we are at the 10th and final question. It will be given at the hour mark but I will let you know now. If you choose to answer the question and get it wrong you will never be able to take the Chunin Exams again. However, if you leave you will be able to take the exams next year but in both cases, you will disqualify your team regardless of choice."

Naruto watched as a few genin began to raise their hands, the weight of Ibiki's words sinking in. The room was tense, filled with the sound of shuffling papers and murmurs. Naruto glanced at Sasuke and Sakura, both of whom looked determined to stay.

Ibiki's eyes scanned the room, observing each genin with a scrutinizing gaze. Naruto didn't waver and wanted to stay. He needed to be strong for his team, to show them that they could trust him. His mind raced with thoughts and strategies, but he kept coming back to the same conclusion: they had to stay and face the challenge head-on.

Hinata, sitting next to him was slightly raising her hand. Naruto saw this and grabbed her hand holding it tightly. She looked up blushing at the contact. Naruto nodded at her reassured they had to stick through it. He let go of her hand and Hinata sat up with a newfound confidence.

Ibiki cleared his throat, drawing everyone's attention. "For those of you who have chosen to stay, I commend your bravery. However, this is not just about answering a question. This is about testing your resolve, your willingness to take risks, and your confidence in your abilities and those of your teammates."

Naruto felt a surge of pride. This was what being a ninja was all about—trusting in oneself and one's comrades, even in the face of uncertainty. He sat up straighter, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

Ibiki continued, "The final question will test your decision-making skills under pressure. You must decide whether to answer it and risk everything or to leave and save your team from disqualification. Remember, the path of a ninja is filled with difficult choices, and this is just one of many you will face in your career."

Naruto clenched his fists, his resolve hardening. He looked over at Sasuke and Sakura, both of whom gave him encouraging nods. They were ready, and so was he.

As the hour mark approached, the tension in the room became almost palpable. Ibiki's stern gaze never wavered as he surveyed the remaining genin. Finally, the clock struck the hour, and Ibiki spoke once more.

"Now, for the final question," he said, his voice echoing through the silent room. "This question will determine your future as a ninja. It is not about knowledge but about your resolve. If you choose to answer, raise your hand."

A heavy silence fell over the room as the genin contemplated their choices. Naruto took a deep breath and raised his hand, followed by Sasuke and Sakura. Slowly, more hands began to rise, each genin making their decision.

Ibiki nodded, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Very well. For those of you who have chosen to answer, you have passed the first part of the Chunin Exams."

A collective sigh of relief swept through the room, followed by murmurs of confusion. Naruto blinked in surprise, trying to process what he had just heard.

Temari begged the question, "Then what the heck was the point of the 10th question?"

Ibiki continued, "The final question was a test of your resolve and your trust in your abilities and your teammates. By choosing to stay and face the challenge, you have proven you have what it takes to be a chunin. The life of a ninja is filled with uncertainties and difficult choices. Today, you have shown that you can face those challenges head-on."

Ibiki started to untie his headband that covered his head and continued to speak. "The point of the test I will let the Blonde in row 3 explain considering he got the jist of it." Everyone had all eyes on Naruto and he started to sweat a little bit.

"Well. The point of the test was to gather information by using any means necessary without being caught. It confused me at first because back when I was in the academy. If we were ever caught cheating on a test, we would be kicked out immediately. So I put two and two together from there. The reason we had to be discrete with cheating and if this was real we would be captured, detained, or… tortured by enemies."

"Everyone thing he said was true," said Ibiki revealing the scars on his head. "This is what happens when you do not properly prepare for getting information. I was tortured into oblivion but I endured. This is why we had this test. So that the fate that happened to me does not happen to anyone else. Though this brat cheated around cheating which I had not seen,"

Everyone nodded in understanding. With this newfound knowledge, many would take this with them to the battlefield. The occupants in the room had their attention drawn away from them when the window was shattered and flew a smoke boom. Once the smoke cleared there was a banner and one purple-haired Jonin in a trenchcoat.

"What is up my Chunin Exam participants? I am your second proctor, the sexy and single Anko Mitarashi. Hope you are all ready because we are going to be having quite a bit of fun." She looked around the room to see quite a few participants than normal.

"Damn, Ibiki, 22 teams is still quite a bit. You losing your touch or something?"

"Your early Anko…again." Anko had the decency to look sheepish. She cleared her throat again before saying, "Alright besides that meet at Training Ground 44 in 30 minutes. Dismissed." With that, the participants got up from their seats and made their way to the door. Naruto was behind Hinata when he stopped at looked at the two proctors. Sasuke looked back at him and Naruto told him he would be right behind him.

"Excuse me, Ibiki Morino," he said. Ibiki looked the blonde way and nodded at him.

"You did pretty well for the first part of the exams, so what do you want?"

"Oh, I just wanted to thank you for giving us the test and all," he said putting his hand out to shake. Ibiki looked confused but nonetheless shook his hand.

"Have a good day Ibiki-san," he said walking away from him back to Team 7. He caught up with Sasuke.

"What was that about?" he asked.

"Nothing, just being courteous."

"When have you ever been courteous," asked Sakura.

"Always have been."

Ibiki watched them leave with curiosity. "Weird kid."

"Told you he was different," said Anko. "Though he gave you something."

Ibiki looked at his hand to see a folded-up paper. He unfolded and showed part of it to Anko so she could read along too.

I wrote this with the spare time I had with the test but there is some information you should know. There is a spy who missed the examiners and his name is Kabuto Yakushi. He said he has taken the exams 7 times this one included which doesn't add up. He also possesses information that is only for certain eyes only such as Elite Jonin and the Hokage. He knows of my A-rank mission that is only known between myself, the Hokage, and Iruka Umino. He also knows of most of my skills that are known between my Sensei, the Hokage, and me. My final bit of information is that he reaks of snakes. So does Anko-san but she doesn't have "evil intentions" for lack of a better term. I can't explain it but I can occasionally feel when people have good and bad intentions. Anyway, I believe that he has something to do with Orochimaru. Do what you want with this but Genin should not have information like this.

Ibiki was pleasantly surprised at what Naruto gave him. Anko was surprised too but for the reason that Orochimaru might be involved.

"That kid really is something. You might be right Anko. I should get this to the Hokage, but we can't do anything until after the 2nd round of the exams," said Ibiki chuckling.

"What is so funny?" she asked.

"He called you Anko-san," he said walking away.

Anko looked displeased as he thought of the whiskered blonde. "That son of a bitch. I told him more than once now to stop. He has to be doing this unpurpose. Good thing I can mess with him."

30 MINUTES LATER TRAINING GROUND 44

Anko teleported to the Training ground to see a field full of Genin. "Alright, you brats listen up. This is officially the second part of the Chunin Exams. Welcome to Training Ground 44. Also known as the Forest of Death and for that, you will soon find out why," she said looking at Naruto. He shifted slightly under the gaze but continued to stare and listen at her.

"Everyone will be handed a scroll. Either an Earth scroll or a Heaven Scroll," she said holding it up for everyone to see.

"To pass on to the next round of the exams you and your TEAM need to have each type of scroll to do so. Like I just said you need your whole team to pass. You have 5 days to complete the "mission" you could say at hand. You will meet at the tower in the Forest of Death once you have both scrolls. As part of the rules for this exam. The only rule is that you are not allowed to leave the forest and that is it," she said panning around.

"What about food?" said a grumbling Chouji.

"Look for it yourself," she said shrugging.

"Are we allowed to kill," said Gaara menacingly causing many to scoot away from him.

"Yes, you are. But alright each team come and get a scroll in the tent over here one at a time."

Sakura looked as the teams went into the tent and saw Naruto had his arms crossed and his eyes closed. "Uh, Naruto what the heck are you doing?"

"Shhh. I'm trying to listen," he said putting a finger to her lips. She smacked it away getting frustrated. "Just tell me what you are doing," she said raising her voice.

Naruto opened his eyes as they made their way into the line. "I'll tell you after just please be quiet for a second," he said listening intently. Soon they were in the tent and Anko handed them a Heaven scroll meaning they needed an Earth scroll. Naruto was about to leave when Anko slipped a note to Naruto who nodded at her. Before he could look at it Anko threw a kunai cutting his cheek once again and licking it.

"I'll have to stop doing this otherwise I'll get addicted," she said putting something inside of his shirt. "Read that later and not now."

Naruto's cheeks reddened slightly as Anko's antics drew attention, but he quickly shoved the note into his pocket. He glanced back at Anko, who smirked and gave him a small nod before he joined Sasuke and Sakura outside the tent.

"Ok Naruto what the heck were you telling us to be quiet about earlier," Sakura asked a bit impatient. Naruto looked around before answering making sure no one was listening.

"I was listening to what scrolls that Anko chick was giving out." The other two Genin were slightly shocked that Naruto thought of that. Not to mention that he could hear them.

"Ok, so who has what?" asked Sasuke. Naruto pointed at the three previous teams before them and whispered what they had. "The Sand Team right there has an Earth scroll as well as the Team from the Waterfall. The other Leaf team has in Heaven scroll so don't worry about them."

"Not bad for a loser I guess," said Sasuke walking to the gate. Naruto huffed in annoyance. "You can't just ever give me something." Soon enough all the teams had their scrolls and they took their positions around the gates to the Forest of Death.

The gates to the Forest of Death loomed ominously before the gathered genin teams. The tension in the air was palpable, a mixture of excitement and dread as they prepared to enter the second stage of the Chunin Exams.

Anko's voice rang out across the field, cutting through the murmurs and whispers. "Alright, brats! Remember, this is a survival exercise, and anything goes. Your objective is to reach the tower in the forest's center with a Heaven and Earth scroll. You have five days. Good luck, and try not to die."

The gates creaked open, and the teams began to enter, each taking a different path into the dense, shadowy forest. Team 7 moved swiftly, with Naruto leading the way. Sasuke and Sakura followed closely, their senses heightened and their eyes scanning their surroundings for any signs of danger.

They were about one hour in and were deep enough into the forest, Naruto signaled for them to stop. "Alright, we need a plan," he said, his voice low and serious. "We know what scrolls some of the teams have, but we need to be careful. This place is dangerous, and other teams will be targeting us as well."

Sasuke scoffed at this, "What makes you think you are the leader dobe?" Naruto pinched the bridge of his nose. "I never said I was Sasuke. Besides that I have a shadow clone chasing both teams I said earlier. So take your pick." Sasuke threw up his hands frustrated.

Sakura budded in, "How about the Sand Team? I would assume that the Waterfall Team has Water Jutsu and that would counteract with Sasuke's Fire Jutsu." Naruto nodded debating about it. "You know what Sakura? That is a pretty damn good idea." Sakura fidgeted slightly at the compliment from Naruto. "Oh, it was nothing."

"Alright fine, we go after the Sand Team. Now let us go," he said seeing a Shadow Clone Naruto appear handing Naruto the scrolls. Sasuke was sputtering as he watched the clone disperse.

"Naruto what the hell is that," demanded Sasuke. "The Heaven and Earth Scrolls, why?"

"You took out a Genin Team Naruto? Not to mention two of them," said Sakura loud and surprised.

"Dobe, explain how you defeated them, now," he said his Sharingan blazing. Naruto looked blankly at Sasuke who stood his ground.

"You want to know the truth then, fine. So my shadow clones were following them when they both began to fight each other. It was about 30 minutes into the fight when that Gaara from earlier came in and…um…you know…" Sasuke nodded in understanding with Sakura gasping slightly.

"And the weird part is his team didn't even take the scrolls. They just did it to do it. Well, Gaara did it to do it, his siblings looked scared half the time," Naruto said.

"What the heck are we going to do with an extra heaven's scroll?" asked Sakura.

"Leverage. Let's say a team wants us to fight them. Then we have a fifty-fifty chance to get them off our backs by giving them the scroll." Sasuke untensed and deactivated his Sharingan and sat down. "Alright, then we should travel for a bit so that we can make our way to the tower. We have about an hour before sunset," said Sasuke jumping in the distance. The other two silently agreed and hopped off after him. Known by none of the Genin they were being followed.

After a short while the group stopped for the night. They made a quick makeshift camp under the foliage. Sasuke sat down saying, "We'll take turns keeping watch. I'll go first."

Sakura looked relieved but still tense. "I'll take the second watch. Naruto, you can take the third."

Naruto agreed, and they ate a quick meal of ration bars and settled in for the night, each taking their turn on watch. It felt all too quick when the sun arose and Naruto watched the light slowly trickle in. He had been chatting with Kurama most of the time on watch to prevent him from being bored. He even read the note. It was simplistic but straight to the point.

The Hokage has been notified and you will talk to him after the second exam.

P.S. If you call me Anko-san again you will be introduced to my snakes.

He wasn't too sure how to react to that but at least the Hokage was made aware of what is happening. He was drifting back to a conversation with Kurama and something was nagging at him in the back of his mind.

"You know I don't mean to jinx it, but why haven't I seen any other animals around here?"

"Because of me. They can sense the demonic chakra from within you and see you as powerful. That is why they are staying away. Other kids might not be so lucky," he said yawning.

"Oh. Well, that is pretty interesting," he said seeing Sasuke sit up rubbing his eyes.

"Well, dobe. Should we get a move on?" Naruto nodded walked over and tapped Sakura to wake her up. They all worked to dismantle the camp where soon moving swiftly through the dense forest, their senses heightened and their guards up. They were mindful of every sound, every rustle of leaves, and every shadow that seemed to move. Sakura wiped her brow of sweat for what seemed like the one-hundredth time.

"How far are we?" she asked.

"I'd say about three more hours at our pace," said Naruto moving through the thick vegetation.

"I still don't get why we can't use chakra," said Sasuke irritated.

"Because then would be more likely to be found out by other people and teams," said Naruto finally finding a clearing and stepping into it. Naruto turned back around to see the two of them.

"What I don't get Sasuke is how much you're complaining about a simple plan. I understand you get annoyed when someone thinks of something before you do but for the love of god teme. If you have a better idea then you should…" he was cut off as Naruto was flung but a big gust of wind sending him flying off to god knows where.

"Naruto!" yelled Sakura. Sasuke was getting ready to go help him but was stopped by a ninja landing in front of them. The Grass kunoichi looked up with a steely-eyed gaze smiling devilishly.

"Sasuke Uchiha. Let us have some fun," she said getting into a stance before accelerating towards him.

"Ouch…" said Naruto as he sat up very slowly. He looked at his right arm which lay limp on his side and he sighed. "Just great I dislocated my shoulder," he said grabbing it.

"Kid don't do that, but you need to hurry up something is coming," said Kurama.

"Not the first time I've dislocated my arm. I've put it back into place before," he said grabbing it. Naruto took a few rapid breaths and you heard a pop signifying he popped it back. He grunted in pain for a moment but he could move his arm again.

He stood fully now and looked around, "Ok, what or who did that." He shortly got his answer as a giant snake landed in front of him, hissing at him wanting to hurt him.

"Gross. But guess I'll have to do it," he said jumping to the side, avoiding a strike from the snake. Naruto used chakra to land on the side of the tree looking at the huge reptile.

"Holy shit this thing is like 60 feet long," he thought pulling out two kunai in a reverse grip. He charged at the snake leaving as many slashes as he could but still was not able to make a big dent into it. All he seemed to be doing was irritating it more.

Naruto jumped up back into the tree to see his options. He looked at the serpent who was wrapping himself around the tree he was on and had to think of something quick.

"Kid, use something sharper," he said. Naruto nodded, the snake's head had a straight shot at him now. Naruto took a deep breath, focusing on his chakra. "Alright, let's see if this works," he muttered. The snakehead launched out at him but he jumped off the jump just before the snake had him in his jaws. As Naruto was falling, a faint blue chakra formed around his arms creating a blade. As soon as he was on the edge of his head, he slashed the blade of wind chakra he created at the head of the serpent. It didn't even get the chance to hit the ground before dispelling. Naruto landed softly getting rid of the Wind chakra on his arm.

"Son of a bitch, that was s summon. Meaning that Orchiomaru is here," he said pumping chakra into his legs to boost himself towards his team.

WITH TEAM 7

"So this is all the power of the mighty Uchiha has. It's disappointing," said the grass ninja mocking him.

Sasuke was pissed at several things right now. How he couldn't make a dent into this ninja. How the dobe was acting as of late. But most importantly, why he wasn't strong enough. No matter the training, no matter the effort, he was strong enough ever. Sasuke started to run threw hand seals. The grass ninja gave a devilish smirk.

"Yes, that is it. Show me your power," she said bracing herself.

Sasuke finished the hand seals and released the jutsu on the woman. "Fire Style: Grand Fireball Jutsu." The fireball launched itself at the ninja burning some of the nearby trees from the intensity. As soon as the jutsu dissipated. There was nothing more than the charred trees and smoke of the battle. Sasuke smirked and looked at Sakura who was leaning against a nearby tree. He had done it and they just had to find Naruto from that wind blast from earlier and they could be on their way.

Sasuke was slowly returning when he felt a fire in his neck. He looked out of the corner of his eyes to see the Grass ninja biting into his neck. He felt something being poured into his body and the pain kept getting worse. His scream soon became silent and he passed out. The ninja smiled, letting go of him, and letting him drop to the ground, looking at the seal that was now present on him.

"You'll be mine soon Sasuke Uchiha, for now, use my power to your heart's content," he said backing up and away from him. But was stopped when he could move at all. The ninja looked behind him to see a shadow leading toward a certain lazy Genin.

"Shadow Possession success," said Shikamaru. Naruto landed right next to him. "Nice timing, Shikamaru," Naruto said, his eyes narrowing at the Grass ninja. "We need to get out of here."

Shikamaru nodded, beads of sweat forming on his forehead from the effort of holding the ninja in place. "Yeah, but we need to be quick. I can't hold this for long." Naruto launched himself across the field to where the ninja was but stopped about a few feet away from him. With Orochimaru facing him he seemed to not have noticed Chouji grabbing Sasuke while Ino helped Sakura to her feet.

"There is no need to hide it anymore Orochimaru," the blonde said smirking. Orochimaru also smirked but this was more of a sadistic smirk.

"Oh my. I am surprised you were able to figure that out," he said dissolving right before his eyes. Ino, Chouji, Sakura, and the passed-out Sasuke were on the same branch as Shikamaru who gasped.

"Naruto get out of there! That was a mud clon…" he was cut off as all the Genin were hit with killing intent. There were two more mud clones behind them emitting it. Naruto watched in shock as his friends started to crumble from the nauseating feeling from the Snake Sannin. Another Orochimaru appeared about 15 feet away from Naruto, who he presumed to be the real one and he started to chuckle.

"Naruto-kun. I have a proposition. You fight me and your friends will be let go. You refuse and they die," he said folding his arms. Naruto looked at his friends and without hesitating, "Yes, I will fight you." Orochimaru smiled once again and the two mud clones from behind the five Genin disappeared. While panting Ino looked up to see Naruto get into a fighting stance ready to fight him.

"Naruto you can't fight him!" she yelled but was grabbed by Shikamaru shaking his head. Naruto looked at Ino and smiled a foxy smile. "I'll be ok Ino-chan. I'll catch up," he said looking back to Orochimaru. There was no resisting from her as she blushed at the chan suffix, the group made their way away from the two of them.

Orochimaru stared at Naruto chuckling. "You are selfless, I'll give you that, but you shouldn't lie to your teammates and friends about catching up," he said disappearing into the ground once more. He still couldn't get over how he looked completely different a moment ago.

"Who said I was lying," he said avoiding a snake that launched from the ground.

WITH TEAM 10 AND TEAM 7

"Shikamaru, what the hell would we leave him with someone as strong as that!" yelled Ino. Shikamaru looked at her with a side glance. "That doesn't matter. He said to himself we needed to leave. He was being selfless and I know for a fact that we would have been more of a hindrance than help."

"That doesn't matter goddamnit!" yelled Ino again getting in his face. Chouji got in between the two of them and pushed them away. "Guys if Naruto said he was going to catch up. Then he will. He has never broken a promise. Even if he didn't say the word promise." At that, Ino calmed down but huffed and walked in a different direction. Sakura looked around as she was near Sasuke who was lying on the ground unmoving.

"Sakura what happened," asked Shikamaru. "I don't know. That guy bit into him in his neck and now he isn't moving," she said worried about him. Ino looked at him and looked away again. She didn't like him anymore but even if he was douche for what he did to her she didn't want him to die. That just wasn't the type of person she was. She leaned against one of the roots of the giant tree she was under and looked onward to the field to see three Genin land in front of them. One had black hair, one had a gauntlet, and another was a girl with long black hair. Ino got up and got into the Yamanaka style of taijutsu and sighed. "Guys we are going to need to fight too," she got the other three's attention. One word was said to describe this moment. Troublesome.

WITH NARUTO

"Kid above," Naruto didn't even look up as he rolled to the side as Orochimaru landed a punch on the ground causing an explosion of dirt and debris everywhere. Naruto had been many using a defensive style of fighting because of how quick he was. He had used some of his elemental jutsu which failed and he wouldn't even dare get close as of right now. Even if it had been 10 minutes his stamina was teetering on the edge right now even if his reserves were way higher than everyone else's.

"Holy shit. Is he testing me? He seems like he is trying to kill me but he isn't at the same time."

"Don't know but you should do something," said Kurama. He had debated on doing something that would help Naruto in this fight but for now, he would wait.

Naruto kept leaping from branch to branch dodging Orochimaru's slashes at him. He soon was hit by a kunai from Orochimaru and he landed on the ground in the open field where his team had been just a little while ago.

"I am a little surprised Naruto-kun you were able to get one of my pets knocked out of the competition," he said licking the blood on the kunai. Naruto was more grossed out than in fear but he didn't care in this moment. "Even if you were running from me like a coward you are faster than Sasuke-kun. So are you ready to die?" he asked.

Naruto smiled which Orochimaru narrowed his eyes at. "Nope," he said before dispelling. Orochimaru wiped his head around to find the real Naruto on a branch smiling in victory at him. Orochimaru looked around to see seals placed upon the trees that he did not notice.

"Damn brat. He must have placed these when he was avoiding my strikes," he thought. Naruto didn't waste any time in putting his hand into a half ram seal. "Release." With that the seals he had placed eruptions with weapons that launched towards Orochimaru. Senbon, kunai, shuriken. They all launched towards him. In less than a second contact was made but to no avail, as all he saw was a log in the center of the field now. Naruto turned around to see Orochimaru inhaling large amounts of air.

"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough." Naruto didn't have enough time to react as he was sent flying across the field into a tree where he had been wedged.

Orochimaru landed right on the tree he was stuck in and looked fascinated. "My lord. Fuinjutsu. Not to mention you used it effectively in battle which many can not do," he said pointing a kunai at his neck.

"Kid, I am sorry for this. I have known for a while that I should have been training you in this for a while now but I have been putting it off because of your growth on your terms. But, I am going to give you some chakra."

"You've done that before Fox. Not that different," he thought as Orochimaru was eyeing him.

"No, my chakra. Brace yourself," he said pumping chakra through his system. Naruto's eyes widened which caused Orochimaru to eye him carefully. What he was careful about was the fist that collided with his face, sending him flying. He landed on his feet wiping the little blood from his cheek and smiled.

"You actually made me bleed boy. Impressive," he said looking up to see Naruto had gotten unstuck. He saw a faint red aura around him. It wasn't completely around his body but it was empowering him. Naruto's muscles enlarged slightly and his blue eyes were now red eyes with horizontal slits. His whiskers were now darker and some of his teeth became sharper.

"Call this your Zero Tailed Form. Now give him hell. That and if you die. I'll kill you brat," said Kurama threatenly. Naruto looked at Orochimaru and he felt much more energy than he had ever felt in his life. Naruto's newfound power surged through his veins, filling him with an intense energy he had never experienced before. Orochimaru's eyes widened slightly, intrigued by the transformation taking place before him. The boy's red eyes and the feral aura emanating from him signaled a significant change, and Orochimaru knew he needed to be cautious.

"Interesting," Orochimaru mused, his voice laced with curiosity. "You're full of surprises, Naruto-kun."

Naruto didn't waste any time. With a speed that caught Orochimaru off guard, he lunged forward, his fists crackling with raw energy. Orochimaru barely managed to dodge the first punch, the sheer force of the blow creating a shockwave that splintered the tree behind him. Naruto's movements were fluid, and instinctive, as if guided by an unseen hand.

Orochimaru countered with a series of swift strikes, but Naruto's enhanced reflexes allowed him to evade them with ease. Each time Orochimaru thought he had an opening, Naruto was already moving, his body a blur of motion. The forest around them became a battlefield, trees splintering and ground tearing apart under the force of their clash.

"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!" Orochimaru unleashed a powerful gust of wind, attempting to create distance between them. But Naruto, now more agile than ever, used the force of the wind to propel himself forward, closing the gap in an instant. His fists connected with Orochimaru's midsection, sending the Sannin sprawling backward.

Orochimaru landed on his feet, his eyes gleaming with a mixture of admiration and annoyance. "Impressive, but you're still far from defeating me."

Naruto growled, his voice tinged with the beastly undertone of Kurama. "I'm not done yet!"

He charged again, but this time Orochimaru was ready. With a flick of his wrist, he summoned a large snake that erupted from the ground, its massive jaws snapping at Naruto. Undeterred, Naruto leaped into the air, avoiding the snake's fangs and landing on its back. He channeled his chakra into his hands to create a coat of wind chakra on his arms.

"Wind Style: Dual Wind Wave," he said sending the snake back into a tree and dispelling it. Naruto just gave Orochimaru a feral look. He summoned a shadow clone and he and the clone ran through hand seals quickly. In unison, the clone and he called on their jutsu. "Wind Style: Devastation/Water Style: Liquid Bullets." Orochimaru planted his feet into the ground bracing himself for the collaboration jutsu. The water bullets were being amplified by the burst of wind from Naruto and it made contact with his face causing his skin to be torn off. After the jutsu was done Orochimaru looked at Naruto who dispelled his clone and all Naruto saw was skin slowly healing.

Orochimaru couldn't help but laugh. "You are amazing. But, I think that I have learned enough about you through Naruto-kun," he said as he moved with speeds that not even Naruto with his Zero-Tailed Form could see. Orochimaru's fingers were enveloped with a light blue fire as he called out his attack, his fingers crackling with dark energy. "Five Pronged Seal!" It had made contact with his stomach and Naruto was once again launched back. He tumbled until he came to a stop as he hit a rock, coughing up some blood. As he saw Orochimaru approach him, he started to notice how much he was hurting as the adrenaline from the fight started to wear off. It felt like some of his ribs were broken or out of place. His arm that was dislocated earlier was hurting again, and don't even get started on the bleeding he was having right now.

Orochimaru squatted down and stared at the blonde Jinchuriki in front of him and smiled devilishly. Naruto started to feel heavier as he saw the Rogue Sannin started to talk to him. "You are an amazing shinobi Naruto-kun. It is a shame you are the container for the fox otherwise I would put a curse seal on you. You would make a fine body. What you did will not be enough to fight the fights that are ahead for you. But as for the hits you got on me earlier, this is for you." He pulled out a sword and sliced his chest just enough to cause some bleeding but not enough to kill him. "However, this is for you," he said placing down two scrolls, one Heaven scroll and an unnamed scroll.

He got up and started to dissolve. He looked back licking his lips, "We may be meeting sooner than you think Naruto Uzumaki," he said before leaving the blonde alone. Naruto tried to get up but he felt tremendous pain everywhere. He thought he could hear Kurama speaking which he was but it didn't sound good.

"Kid….seal…get…off…can't…heal…you…good…hurry," was all he could make out. Naruto pushed himself up and grabbed the scrolls. He examined the other one that was unmarked and it was a storage scroll. He unsealed it and out came three wind elemental jutsu, with a note.

Excellent fight Naruto-kun

P.S. I would have killed you if you didn't give me some entertainment

P.P.S No you were not close to beating me

"This dude is weird and just what the hell did he put on me," he said grunting out. He slowly started to make his way back to his team and friends as he felt they needed him.

WITH TEAM 10 AND TEAM 7

The field was littered with the signs of an intense battle. Sakura's cherry blossom hair was laid about on the field they were in as Ino and Chouji were panting. Shikamaru stayed back as he was running low on chakra from holding down Orochimaru. Rock Lee from Team 9 had even showed up but there was something seriously wrong with this so-called Sound Team. They seemed to have been modified or amp up with something as even with everyone's knew training didn't seem to help them too much. One Genin on the Sound Team had about enough of this.

The girl saw the agitation in her teammate's eyes and knew what he was doing. "What Zaku don't do it," she said backing away and preparing for the worst.

"Shut it Kin, I do what I please," he said. Chouji looked at Ino with some hope. "Use it. I'll hold off this Zaku guy," he said, summoning all his remaining strength. Ino nodded, understanding what Chouji meant. She prepared herself, focusing on her chakra.

Zaku, eyes gleaming with malicious intent, raised his hands. "You're all going down!" he shouted, ready to unleash another sonic blast.

Chouji charged at Zaku, his body expanding as he activated his Partial Expansion Jutsu. "You won't get past me!" he roared, slamming his enlarged arm down towards Zaku. The Sound ninja dodged, but the force of the impact created a shockwave that knocked him off balance.

Ino seized the opportunity, forming the hand seals for her Mind Transfer Jutsu. "Mind Transfer Jutsu!" she yelled, sending her consciousness into Kin's mind. For a moment, Kin stood still, his eyes wide with shock, before Ino's consciousness took control. Shikamaru ran over and picked up her body so that there wouldn't be additional problems.

Using Kin's body she smiled and launched herself at Zaku who was being bombarded by many directions. Dosu had about enough of this and sent an air wave from the gauntlet he wore knocking Chouji away from Zaku while he dealt with Kin who was possessed by Ino. Lee went after Dosu who dodged a kick from the energetic Genin.

Ino, controlling Kin's body, took advantage of the confusion. With swift, precise movements, she launched a series of attacks on Zaku, who was still reeling from Chouji's assault. "Take this!" she shouted, driving Kin's fist into Zaku's side. The impact made Zaku stagger, his malicious grin faltering.

Sakura, despite her exhaustion, pushed herself up. Her eyes scanned the battlefield, calculating her next move. She didn't know who else to attack but before she could think of her next move she was knocked off her feet by a strong force. She looked up trying to find what knocked her down. She looked over at Chouji who was shocked to see that Sasuke was up pinning Zaku by his arms. Sasuke had these weird black markings all over his body and he seemed to be in a light purple aura.

"Hey guys, are they bothering you?" he asked in a more menacing tone. He looked out of the corner of his eye to see Sakura nodding at shook his head. "Well, then that deserves punishment," he said dislocating both the arms of Zaku. He screamed out in pain causing the other slight discomfort. He looked at Dosu who was too far away at the moment but then he saw Kin. He pointed at her saying, "Your next," he said launching himself at her. Ino was scared because she didn't have enough time to react. Sasuke was mere inches away from her but was blocked by something. When the dust cleared everyone saw a panting, battered, bruised, and bleeding Naruto holding the fist of Sasuke. Sasuke grunted out of annoyance as Ino returned to her body as Kin was on the ground watching this all unfold.

"Move dobe," he said. "I'm good," was all Naruto said before Sasuke felt pain in his neck and was knocked out by a shadow clone from Naruto. Naruto sighed as looked at everyone. He saw the rest of Team 9 in the trees looking at the Neji Hyuga Tenten had told him able to deactivate his Byakugan.

"Alright, I think that we all have had enough fighting and I doubt you guys want to have a battle where it is 8 against 2 considering your other teammates' arms are…well not working. So how about you 3 leave and nothing happens," he said looking at Dosu. Dosu looked around and conceded knowing that he couldn't do much more.

"Fine. We will meet again," signaling Kin to follow him. The two of them rushed over to Zaku picked him up and left. Naruto wanted to flop on the ground and call it a day when Lee came over rushing him.

"Naruto-kun it is a pleasure to meet you once more. It appears you have been using your flames of youth to battle enemies so I will not fight you for now," he said jumping around him. He smiled at this and asked Lee a question. "Say Lee, what type of scroll do you need?"

"We need a Heaven Scroll Naruto-kun," he said wondering why he was asking. Naruto unsealed a scroll handing him the Heaven he needed. "I can't accept this," he said simply.

"That's too bad because I already gave it to you. Besides it would be very unyouthful if you gave it back," he said laughing. Lee was shocked at this and decided to accept it. He jumped back with his team and they left the area.

"What about you team Shikamaru?" asked Naruto turning to him. Shikamaru winced at the wounds Naruto had but answered the question anyway. "Earth."

"Then it works out then," as he threw him the Earth Scroll. Shikamaru smiled as he caught it. "You troublesome blonde. You are interesting, to say the least. Are you ok though?"

"Oh, I am just hunky dory over here Shikamaru." He was going to say more but was jumped on by Ino who was hugging him tightly. "You idiot why did you do that? Why did you fight that ninja alone? You could've been killed," she said looking at him.

"Because you would've been killed if I had refused. Besides I caught up didn't I," he said wincing from Ino's grip on him. She nodded in his chest as he pulled out a scroll and gripped it tightly.

"Ok guys I'm sorry for this but you'll need to carry me to the tower. Our teams both have the scrolls so we should be good to go in that department. When we get there we need to get to the Hokage so he can have this scroll I am holding."

"Troublesome, why do we have to carry you?"

"I'm going to pass out in a few sec…" Naruto remained upright from Ino was set down gently and looked at. Ino examined his injuries while Sakura and the other two members of Team 10 looked at Naruto. "Yeah, we should get to the tower. We are about a couple of hours away right?"

"Hour and a half but yes," said Shikamaru. "Then let's go what the heck are we doing then?" she said trying to pick up the pace. Chouji picked up Naruto while Sasuke was picked up by Shikamaru. Both teams rushed to the tower so they could be done with this exam.

HOUR AND A HALF LATER

Naruto and Sasuke were placed gently on the ground as the teams arrived at the tower, breathing heavily from the rush. The four Genin were trying to figure out what to do next as they were now trying to get to a place were they could let there guard down.

"I wonder, Sakura pull out the scrolls," said Shikamaru while pulling out the Heaven and Earth scrolls with her doing the same. They both opened them and threw them in the same direction.

"Well, it seems we have a team up here Inojin," said Iruka.

"That is indeed what it seems," he said while drinking some water. The two of them panned over to Sasuke and Naruto who looked worse for where. Iruka asked quickly, "What happened." The two elder shinobi ran to the two of them to examine them.

"We were attacked by some guy called Orochimaru," said Chouji, making the two shinobi gasp at that.

"And Naruto said that the scroll he is gripping in his hand needs to be given to the Hokage ASAP," followed Ino in response. The two ninjas looked at each other and nodded. Inojin teleported Naruto while Iruka did so with Sasuke leaving the four Genin alone until someone else came.

After the two were dropped off at the infirmary. The Hokage was notified and was handed the scroll Naruto wrote. He opened it up to it was a list of info,

So old man I just fought Orochimaru and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that he is here for a reason. He left some weird mark on Sasuke after he bit him. He didn't bite me so I am guessing that is good. He also put some five-pronged thing on me over my seal. I can't write much longer because I need to get back to my team.

Hiruzen had been reading while he was traversing the halls of the medical bay in the tower to see if the two were alright. He had already ordered Anko to come and check on Sasuke as she had experience with this seal that had been placed on Sasuke. He finally made it to Naruto's room to see he was wrapped in a lot of bandages with most of them going over his chest. His stomach was exposed and he could see that it really was the five-pronged seal that he taught to Orochimaru all those years ago. It was made to disrupt or stop someone's chakra. Naruto was lucky because if he didn't have the reserves he did. Naruto muttered a sorry as he did the same thing Orochimaru did to Naruto.

"Five-Pronged Seal," he said slamming it into his gut. Naruto grunted in pain but stopped shortly after. He then left the doctors to do the rest as he went to see about Sasuke.

IN NARUTO'S MINDSCAPE

"Ouch…my body," Naruto said sitting up slowly. He looked around him to see that Kurama was a small way away and stared at him.

"Try not to move too much because you are still hurting. Well, the good news is you are at the tower you were supposed to be at and the Hokage took that seal off you. The bad news is you are injured and are just healing now because that seal was on you."

"Well, this has been an interesting day, to say the least. What the heck was the power?" he asked laying back down.

"Like I said that was an incredibly small taste of my power and chakra called the Zero Tailed Form. Every Jinchuriki has it to my knowledge, but it is something that I knew you could control." Naruto just nodded and looked at the sky in his mindscape.

"You should awake in about an hour but you'll still be in pain, Lucky for you to complete this in 2 days meaning you have a few days to rest."

"Sounds good. Thanks, Kurama," said Naruto before letting sleep take him.

1 HOUR LATER

Naruto roused in his sleep and sat up slowly to see the old man reading a book. "Good to see you Naruto. You don't have to talk too much if you want to. We are just here to discuss your findings about this so-called traitor," he said activating the silencing seals. He looked around the room to see Ibiki leaning against the window and Anko sitting on the opposite end of the room eating a dango stick.

Hiruzen put the book away before saying, "Well, I think that it is safe to assume that Naruto's findings about traitors being involved are true as Orochimaru is here. He said that Kabuto Yakushi smelled like snakes meaning that he has been working with Orochimaru."

Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, considered the implications. "Kabuto Yakushi... He's been a promising Genin for some time, always under the radar. If he's in league with Orochimaru, we must tread carefully. His knowledge of our systems and his medical expertise make him a significant threat."

Anko Mitarashi, her eyes narrowing, chimed in. "If Kabuto is indeed a spy, we need to flush him out. But Orochimaru's presence here means he's after something specific. The question is, what?"

Naruto, despite his pain, sat up straighter. "He mentioned something about Sasuke. Orochimaru gave him a weird mark. I think he called it a 'curse mark.' And he seemed really interested in testing my abilities. Said something about my power not being enough for the battles ahead."

Ibiki Morino, the head of the Torture and Interrogation Force, leaned forward, his expression intense. "Orochimaru's interest in Sasuke isn't surprising. The Uchiha's Sharingan is a powerful tool. But testing you, Naruto? That implies he sees you as a potential threat or asset. Either way, it complicates things."

"I know. It's just troublesome for lack of a better term," he said with the others agreeing. Hirzuen cleared his throat before speaking, "Regardless, we need to be on the lookout. We will be vigilant and we will need a lot of hands on deck. We will monitor the other teams in association with them. I have a person I know with a spy network coming in. I'll ask him for him here shortly," he said gesturing for Anko and Ibiki to follow him and undo the seals. Hiruzen turned back to Naruto and smiled at him.

"Good work Naruto-kun. Get some rest. You have a few days until the next big exam happens," he said shutting the door. Naruto sighed as he stared out the window looking at the clouds pass on by. The Chunin Exams were something else.
