It was the night of the new moon, which meant one thing. New beginnings, new bonds, new promises made under the night sky. It was supposed to be a night of festivity, celebration. Of creation. But instead it was turning into a nightmare..
To start, the incoming storm had cancelled all flights leaving the entire WWE roster stuck in this godforsaken town. Those who had rented cars could probably drive out and make it to the next show but for others, there was no option. They'd be stuck here until the weather cleared. And with flooding expected who knew when that would be.
Then to top it off, the hotel reservations fell through. Many had tried to rebook or extend their stays but some stupid convention was starting and there was no longer room at the majority of places. So folks had to improvise.
Thanks to the Wiseman, Roman and his family were able to find lodgings at an Air B and B cabin. It was a former retreat site, a rather large log structure consisting of approximately 4 bedrooms. The website had boasted it was the point of conception for possibly thousands throughout the years. When relayed this, Roman had not been impressed.
Despite the storm, the group was able to make it with no issue. Of course Roman refused to drive the SUV so Solo the ever obedient enforcer did the driving. Jey was beside him, head against the glass as he took his usual nap. He could never stay awake during a car ride. Roman sat in the row behind him, dark eyes glaring at the weather, as if his scowl could change Mother Nature itself. To his right, Jimmy sat with his phone out, sending yet another text to the woman he'd give his left nut to have back. God he missed Naomi.
"We're here."
He was pulled from his thoughts by the halting of the vehicle. Jimmy glanced up from his phone to peer into the darkness outside his window. The rain was still coming down pretty hard. Despite the obstruction he was able to make out the faint outline of the cabin. No way they'd reach the doors without getting soaked.
"Jey," Roman was waking his twin up front.
"This place even have electricity?" Jimmy asked skeptically.
"It's looking kind of rough."
"You doubting the Wiseman?" he wasn't sure if Solo was joking or not with his monotone.
"Man I'm just saying. We're used to better."
His youngest brother responded by sucking his teeth.
Damn what's his problem?
He started to ask just that when Roman interrupted.
"Jey!" he smacked the back of the seat, causing the younger Uso to jolt.
"Aye-" he started but was quickly silenced by their older cousin.
"Wake up. We're here."
Jey rubbed his eyes, adjusting to the waking world. Like Jimmy he glanced out the window at their spot for the night.
"What in the DB is this place?"
Daniel Bryan. Former coworker. Forever nature enthusiast. Evicted from the company when Roman beat him a few years ago. Jimmy snickered at his brother's comment.
"DB is ancient history," Roman replied, narrowing his eyes at the image outside.
Probably gauging how dry they'd be by the time he got to the door.
"Solo, grab my bag. Jey go grab the key. Paul said they left it in the mailbox."
Jimmy tried to spot a mailbox in the darkness.
"Where's that at, Uce?"
"How the hell should I know? I've never been to this dump before," he cousin snapped.
Clearly in one of his moods.
"But if you're so concerned you can help your brother find it."
These moods were getting worse since the Sami incident. It was like Roman was unraveling. Even still, Jimmy was getting sick of the disrespect. He opened his mouth in time to catch Jey glance back at him, not a warning but instead a plea not to fire back.
For his twin's sake, he shut it.
Begrudgingly both Usos climbed out the vehicle and were instantly pelted with warm rain drops.
"You see anything?" Jey asked, glancing around.
"Nah just our asses with pneumonia if we don't get out of this shit quick."
He wasn't trying to get sick. Jey pointed up the walkway.
"Let's check out the front."
Heads down to protect their eyes, the Usos made their way up the path.
"You know he could have brought his Tribal Cheif ass out and found the keys his damn self," Jimmy griped along the way.
"Last I checked both his legs work."
"Uce..."
"What? You telling me this shit ain't getting old to you? Him talking down on us like this?"
Jey ran a hand down his face.
"He's just upset is all. Since we lost the titles. When we win them back he'll be fine again."
Jimmy doubted it. Roman hadn't been fine since he'd hooked up with Paul Heyman. The man was a snake in his cousin's ear.
"Look, all I'm saying is he need to check himself."
Jey didn't respond. They reached the front door, already soaked through. It took a few more minutes to find the tall box carrying their mode of entry. And a few longer minutes to get everyone inside. Like the Prima donna he was since joining Heyman, Roman refused to get wet so the chief ordered Jey to carry his hoodie over his head. Solo and Jimmy were ordered to get the bags.
"This some bullshit," Jimmy griped once out of earshot of the big uce.
"We just set the record for the longest reigning tag champs of all time and Roman got us fetching his bags like some chumps."
Solo didn't say anything.
"If he think I'ma keep putting up with this he got another thing coming. I ain't nobody's bitch."
They grabbed the bags and continued back to the cabin without another word. Inside was rather small. There was a common area with a couch, a kitchen area sectioned off to the left and further in two doors on each side. Roman emerged from one of rooms, wet shirt already peeled off.
"Jey's next to me," was all he said before gesturing toward the bag on Solo's arm and disappearing back into his room.
Jey, ever so dutiful, immediately retrieved it. Jimmy, having grabbed his own and Jey's bags, offered Jey's up without prompting.
"Night Uce," he knew Jey wouldn't be chilling with him tonight. Roman would probably keep him up running his mouth, needing his ego stroked.
Tribal Chief my ass. More like a spoiled bit--
"Night." Jey didn't even look at him.
Sighing in resignation, he turned to Solo.
"Guess it's just me and you."
His baby brother just gave him a sour look before turning for the closest door and disappearing behind it.
Fine, whatever. It's late anyway.
His clothes were wet, his body sticky and there wasn't a tv around to distract him. Nor was there a wife...
Deflated, Jimmy found his way into the one unclaimed room in the cabin. This was going to be a long night.
