010: All Smoke, No Fire & A Swords Will

It had been a few days since the Obsidian Rogues bid farewell to the wintery peaks of Drum Island and the Straw Hat Pirates. The afternoon sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the deck of their ship as it sailed through the Grand Line's unpredictable waters. The crew had long since recovered from their raucous celebration, which had stretched into the early hours of the morning, filled with brawls between Naruto, Luffy, and Zoro, a spirited cook-off between Menchi and Sanji, and an epic eating competition that left even the insatiable Luffy impressed.

As the Straw Hats had decided to remain an extra day to ensure Nami's full recovery, the Obsidian Rogues had set sail with their log pose reset and a cache of new memories. Den Den Mushi numbers were exchanged, primarily for Nojiko and Nami's sake, though the rest of the crew suspected they'd come in handy sooner rather than later.

Now, alone on the vast sea, a very bored and slightly hungover Naruto called his crew to attention. He stood before them, a wide-brimmed hat casting a shadow over his eyes, shielding them from the harsh afternoon sun. The crew gathered, curiosity and anticipation evident in their expressions.

"Alright, listen up," Naruto announced, his voice carrying a mix of excitement and lingering fatigue. "I've made a decision about that Devil Fruit we've got." He paused for dramatic effect, then gave a low-energy "woo" that elicited both chuckles and eye-rolls from his crew.

Murmurs rippled through the group, with even Hanabi and Shinobu exchanging sceptical glances. Naruto's ideas were often as unpredictable as the Grand Line itself.

"We're going to have a little game," he continued, ignoring the sighs from his crew. "Winner keeps the fruit and can either sell it or eat it." A mischievous smirk played across his face as he added, "I'm pretty sure most fruits can clear 100,000,000 beri with ease."

That caught everyone's attention. As if to emphasize his point, Naruto created a crystal table made of obsidian, its black reflective surface gleaming in the sunlight. The crew's eyes widened at the display of their captain's power and the implications of his words.

Gin, feeling significantly better after his visit to the doctor, stepped forward with a confident smirk. The prospect of such power or wealth was too tempting to ignore.

Menchi, however, shook her head. "I'm going to pass," she said, drawing everyone's gaze. "I'm a chef, but I also hunt my own ingredients. It doesn't make sense for me to become a hammer." With that, she took a seat on the railing, content to watch the spectacle unfold.

Hanabi's eyes gleamed with competitive spirit. While she didn't need the beri and already possessed a Devil Fruit, the opportunity to best her brother at something was too good to pass up. "Since Gin stepped forward first, how about he goes up first?" she suggested, a sly grin spreading across her face. "But I've got winner."

Naruto's smirk widened; he had been waiting for this moment since rescuing Gin. He moved behind the obsidian platform, kneeling and placing his elbow on the cool surface in a classic arm-wrestling position. The challenge in his eyes was unmistakable.

"Now, just to reaffirm a few things," Naruto said, his demeanour suddenly serious. "There are only three absolutes onboard this ship." He held up one finger. "First, under no circumstances will you ever reveal harmful information about this crew to outsiders." A second finger joined the first. "Second, no serious fighting between crewmates. All serious disputes must be settled through arm wrestling." He raised a third finger. "And last but not least, any Devil Fruits discovered on our journey, the person who finds it can decide what to do with it." His gaze swept across the crew, ensuring everyone understood the gravity of these rules."

The crew leaned in, the air thick with anticipation as Gin stepped forward to mirror their captain's stance. The obsidian table gleamed ominously under the afternoon sun, reflecting the determined faces of the two competitors. As their hands clasped, muscles already tensing, Shinobu glided over with the grace of a seasoned warrior. Her petite hands hovered above theirs, a stark contrast to the bulging forearms beneath.

"Now since I found it, my challenge is impress me." Naruto spoke before looking at his first mate and nodding.

"Are both of you ready?" the first mate asked, her voice carrying a mix of authority and excitement. Her eyes darted between Naruto and Gin, searching for any sign of hesitation.

"Aye, turn me up." Naruto said as he smirked his gaze never leaving Gin's.

Gin locked eyes back refusing to back down or be intimidated by someone 6 years his junior, but he picked up something. 'His eyes, they're like a predator.' "Let's see if your all talk captain, no powers to help ya out here." Gin taunted back as he readied up.

A mischievous glint flashed in Shinobu's eyes. "Alright, well, we are pirates, so keep it dirty and begin!" she announced, swiftly raising her hand. The moment her fingers left their wrists, both men exploded into action.

The Hanahime suddenly lurched, the deck trembling under the sheer force emanating from the two competitors. The ship's timbers groaned in protest, as if struggling to contain the raw power being unleashed upon it.

Nojiko, caught off guard by the sudden movement, stumbled and nearly lost her footing. She grabbed the railing, her eyes wide with a mixture of surprise and admiration. Beside her, Menchi's gaze was fixed on the flexing biceps of the two men. While her attention was primarily drawn to her cru-captain's impressive physique, she couldn't help but cast an appreciative glance at Gin's equally formidable form.

Shinobu remained perfectly balanced despite the chaos, her stance unwavering. Her brow furrowed slightly as she observed the contest. 'I'm impressed,' she thought. 'Gin is still matching the captain. Zoro and Naruto are the strongest people I know outside of my sister in her prime, and yet...'

Perched on the rail next to Menchi, Hanabi's pencil flew across her sketchbook. Her keen artist's eye captured every detail - the strain in their forearms, the determination etched on their faces, and Shinobu's stoic presence overseeing the match. The scene before her was a perfect blend of raw power and subtle dynamics, a moment she knew she'd want to remember.

As the two men grappled, Naruto focused solely on his natural strength. No Haki, no Devil Fruit powers, no Electro - he wanted to gauge Gin's true potential without any enhancements. His earlier observation haki reading had hinted at something special in Gin, and now was the time to confirm it.

"Come Gin, show me something."

Sweat beaded on Gin's brow, his teeth gritted in concentration. Despite not being at full strength, he was giving it his all. Yet, a nagging thought persisted in his mind: 'The bastard's arm is hardly moving, and that smirk... he's not giving it his all, not even close.' The realisation both frustrated and excited him. If this was just a fraction of the captain's true strength, what heights could he reach under his guidance?

The contest continued, a testament to both men's endurance and power. The rest of the crew watched in awe, their breath held collectively, sensing that this was more than just a game - it was a defining moment for their newest member and a rare glimpse into the true strength of their enigmatic captain.

Gin, his face contorted with effort, surged with newfound power. He pushed against Naruto's arm, moving it ever so slightly. The obsidian platform they were wrestling on began to protest under the immense force. Hairline cracks appeared at the points where their elbows made contact, spreading like a spider's web across the glossy black surface. With each passing second, more fissures appeared, the platform groaning under the superhuman strain.

Shinobu's sharp eyes narrowed as she assessed the situation. 'That's going to break,' she thought, her tactical mind already calculating the potential fallout. With fluid grace, she stepped away from the duo, her movement so subtle it was almost imperceptible.

The moment Shinobu reached a safe distance, the obsidian platform shattered with a resounding crack. Shards of black crystal exploded outward, glinting in the afternoon sun like a shower of dark stars. Yet, remarkably, the two men remained unmoved. Their arms were still locked together, pushing against each other with unrelenting force. What made the scene even more impressive was that even without the support of the platform, their forms had not changed in the slightest.

Naruto and Gin arms hovered there, suspended by sheer strength and willpower, their bodies hardly moving unless they falter. The air around them seemed to shimmer with the intensity of their struggle, the very atmosphere charged with their competitive spirit.

Nojiko gasped, her eyes wide with disbelief. Menchi's jaw dropped as she dropped her fruit peeler, forgotten in her astonishment. Hanabi's pencil flew across her sketchbook with renewed vigour, capturing this moment of raw power and determination.

"He fucking called it." Hanabi whistled, as she thought back to when her brother brought back the ill man.

As the contest stretched on, the crew could see the toll it was taking on both men. Veins bulged on Gin's forehead; his teeth gritted in a grimace of effort. Naruto's ever-present smirk had faded, replaced by a look of intense concentration. Sweat beaded on both their brows, despite the cool sea breeze.

The Hanahime itself seemed to hold its breath, the usual creaks and groans of the ship falling silent in the face of this extraordinary display. The tension was palpable, with every crew member's attention fixed on the contest.

"What I would do to get the captain's arms around me," Menchi whispered thoughtlessly as she watched the two men, her eyes wide with admiration.

Naruto's face went slightly red as he picked up the low whisper, causing him to falter for a moment. Gin seized the opportunity and capitalised on it. 'Shit,' Naruto thought as he applied more strength, halting his arm from moving further. "Not bad for an old man."

"Old man? I'm 25," Gin grunted out, his face a mask of effort.

"Either way, next time you're going to need to try a lot harder than this."

"Next time?" Gin questioned, his voice strained.

As soon as the question left Gin's lips, Naruto overpowered him, slamming his arm down to where the platform would've been. "I win."

Gin looked down at his hand as Naruto let go of his. 'I know I'm not at 100 percent but is that how big the gap is?' he thought as he reached up to adjust his sweatband. "Looks like I'm following a real monster."

"Damn straight. Now the question is, do you want to join team monster?" Naruto asked, a smirk playing on his lips.

"Huh?" Gin responded dumbly before catching onto his captain's meaning. "I lost; I don't get the fruit."

"True, you lost, but don't you remember my first instructions?" Naruto laughed lightly. "Your goal was to impress me." The teen stated as he created a crystal off to his side and focused on creating one in the lookout. Naruto waited for the reflection to change to the lookout just above the coffee table and then stuck his hand into the crystal. The same limb exited in the lookout above the liberated Devil Fruit. He grabbed it quickly and pulled his whole arm out, revealing the fruit in hand. "Now I'll ask you again, want to take a risk and join us monsters?"

"Don't forget how much the Marines paid for this fruit; it's got to be pretty dangerous or powerful," Hanabi added cheerfully.

Gin took a deep breath, silently contemplating the choice before he extended his hand, accepting the fruit. "Down the hatch, I guess." He looked upon the fruit, its grey and green hues with a slightly hardened exterior plated with a green stalk at the top that looked like a mini hammer.

Gin opened his mouth and ate the whole fruit in one bite, before almost throwing up at the taste, which had Naruto and Hanabi laughing at his response because they had gone through the exact same thing when they acquired their fruits.

After Gin had calmed down, he remained in his position on the floor. "I don't feel very different."

"Just give it a second," Naruto encouraged as he stood up and moved a couple of paces away.

And true enough, something began to happen. Gin's size began to grow and morph. The crewmates all had widened eyes at the scene before them, surprise etched into their reactions. Not Naruto, though—his grin couldn't have gotten wider.

"Jackpot," Naruto said as he looked up at his master gunner, the ship adjusting to the added weight.

The local Marine base was buzzing with activity, a hive of disciplined yet relaxed soldiers moving about their duties. They had just passed a Vice Admiral's inspection a few days prior, and the successful evaluation had allowed them a momentary respite from their usual high-strung vigilance. The base felt unusually relaxed, especially with the esteemed White Hunter, Captain Smoker, and his right hand, Tashigi, present to resupply before their next pirate hunting expedition.

Captain Smoker disembarked from his battleship with his usual stern demeanour, his gaze sweeping across the pristine base. Despite its cleanliness and order, the security felt lax to him, a stark contrast to the rigorous standards he maintained on his own ship. The marines saluted smartly as he passed, their respect for the fearsome captain evident.

"This is the G-6 base?" Smoker inquired, his deep voice cutting through the background noise of the busy base. He took a drag from his ever-present cigar, the smoke curling around his head like a stormy halo.

"Yes, Captain Smoker," Tashigi responded, adjusting her glasses as she followed closely behind him. "From the reports, G-6 passed its evaluation a couple of days ago."

"Ah, that would make sense if we weren't in Paradise," Smoker mused aloud, his eyes narrowing as he scrutinized the relaxed security. "But regardless, deposit those confiscated weapons in the armoury. We'll be resupplying and redeploying in the next couple of days, so get as much rest as you can."

"Yes, sir," Tashigi acknowledged, her tone crisp and professional. She turned to relay the orders to the nearby marines, who quickly sprang into action.

"Where is the base commander?" Smoker asked a random grunt.

"Vice Admiral Aramaki was called into Marineford for a reward for another successful base evaluation." The grunt answered before carrying on with his orders.

'We'll resupply here and then head out after Straw Hat.'

Smoker continued his inspection of the base, his mind already planning their next moves. Despite the temporary calm, he knew that danger was never far in the Grand Line, and he intended to be ready for whatever came next. His stern expression softened slightly as he watched his crew move efficiently to carry out his orders, a faint hint of satisfaction in their discipline and readiness.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the base, Smoker stood tall, the embodiment of Marine authority and resolve, ready to face the challenges that lay ahead in their relentless pursuit of justice.

The sun had long since set, and the Rouge's were approaching their next island. Normally, they would turn up at the main port, but thanks to Nojiko and her maps, they discovered they were heading to Feathering Island, a Marine-affiliated Island that also housed Marine Base G-6. The crew decided to sneak in and anchor at the furthest coast away from the Marine base, planning to sneak into town while the Log Pose reset.

"Easy there, girl, nice and easy," Naruto whispered to the Hanahime as he steered the ship. With the sails drawn in, he focused on momentum and the tide to glide into their chosen hiding spot.

"Alright, because of the Marine presence, we're splitting up. Nojiko, any maps of the local region? The Log Pose is great, but I like to know where I'm headed before we arrive. Nice catch," Shinobu said, praising Nojiko for alerting them to the nearby Navy base.

"No problem. I should have caught it earlier," Nojiko replied with a small smile, appreciating the praise.

"Menchi, how are we on food?" Shinobu asked the chef.

"Our stores took a hit from Drum Island, but we still have plenty of salted sea king left. We are low on seasonings, though," Menchi responded.

"Okay, so Naruto, Nojiko, Menchi, and I will head into town," Shinobu ordered. "Hanabi and Gin, you're on ship duty."

"Gotcha," Hanabi replied with a low-energy salute.

Gin just nodded. "I've got some stuff to work on. Can't risk an accidental shift."

Shinobu nodded as the ship came to a stop, the dull sound of the anchor dropping filling the air.

"Alright, guys, let's head out," Naruto announced.

"Oi, Uzumaki!" Gin hollered, grabbing the captain's attention.

"Hmm?" Naruto turned to Gin, only to catch a grey hooded jacket.

"You're a wanted man too. Cover up, just to be safe," Gin advised.

Naruto nodded, slipping the jacket over his open vest and pulling the hood over his head. "Alright, thanks. Let's move."

The crew hit the main town after a short 15-minute walk after leaping from their ship, Nojiko having to be carried as they had leap onto a low cliff. The crew were currently attempting to locate all the stores they were going to need in the morning when everything opens, before returning to the ship.

Naruto felt something. The moment he stepped foot on the island he observation haki was ringing, and then he stepped in this town and now it was more apparent.

'It's not alive? What is this feeling? You're not a threat though, at least not to me.' Naruto thought.

The group carried on walking around town, they noted marine patrols were near non-existent in the town area. After finding every location they needed the group decided to head back and return at a decent hour to get their stuff together and get out, staying this close to a marine base is asking for trouble.

Naruto seemingly in a daze walked ahead of the group taking a corner which was on the route back Shinobu came round the corner and stared at the Naruto's back and ass she peered from behind him she realised they had found the marine base, in all its pristine glory.

"You know what Shinobu, I think I know what I'm doing tomorrow."

"Oh crap," Shinobu cursed as she recognised that tone. "You're never going to grow up are you."

"Nope... Look at it it's so pristine, so white, and boring navy blue. It's practically begging for lil' bit of colour." Naruto said as he licked his lips as dark deeds and pranks formulated in his mind.

Shinobu nearly faced palmed but then she thought to herself, 'He is the man you chose to follow.' The first mate just reached up and grabbed the back of Naruto's collar and began dragging him back the way they came. "You can think of what you're going to do on the way home, ya lunatic."

"Aye, Aye." Naruto snickered as he allowed the shorter girl to pull him backwards with a smirk. 'Just need to see if Hanabi will let me borrow her painting stuff and whatever that thing that was setting my kenbunshoku haki off is in there, no doubt.'

The following morning, the Obsidian Rogues dispersed on their assigned tasks. Nojiko headed towards the nautical store, her keen eyes searching for maps and navigational tools to aid their journey. Menchi and Shinobu made their way to the food vendors, the chef's expert nose guiding them to the freshest ingredients while Shinobu discreetly sought components for her deadly concoctions.

Meanwhile, Naruto, the crew's audacious captain, embarked on his own mission. Dressed in nondescript overalls and the same hooded jacket from the previous day, he carried three panes of paint and two brushes. The disguise was simple yet effective, transforming the wanted pirate into an unremarkable maintenance worker.

With a confidence that bordered on recklessness, Naruto casually strolled through the gates of the marine base. As he crossed the threshold, that familiar sensation from his Observation Haki intensified, now practically singing to him. 'Ok fine, I give. I need to know what that is,' Naruto thought, his curiosity piqued beyond resistance.

His azure eyes scanned the compound, taking in the marines performing their morning drills and the guards standing at attention. 'Just walk in like you belong,' Naruto coached himself internally, adopting a relaxed posture and whistling a jaunty tune as he headed for the main building.

The base's interior was a maze of corridors and offices, but Naruto's instincts guided him unerringly. After a few minutes of casual wandering, he found himself descending into the basement. Above the entryway, a sign proclaimed "Armory" in bold letters. 'I'm even more intrigued now,' he mused, a mischievous glint in his eye as he glanced around before slipping inside.

The armoury was a veritable treasure trove of weaponry. A massive cell dominated the room, filled with an impressive array of firearms, blades, and other instruments of war. Rifles and pistols lined the walls, while swords and hatchets hung in neat rows. As Naruto ventured deeper into the room, his Haki reaching a crescendo, the sensation almost overwhelming.

And then he saw it. 'There you are, a sword?' Naruto's thoughts raced as he gazed upon the blade. 'Does it have a will of its own? I don't know, but from the looks of it, it wants to be used.' The teen's eyes devoured every detail of the weapon, from its elegant hilt to its dark scabbard.

Without hesitation, Naruto made his decision. With a flick of his wrist, he grew a small crystal shard and expertly tossed it behind the cell bars, landing it precisely next to the blade. The crystal glinted in the dim light, a silent promise of return.

"I'll be back for you. You can believe it," Naruto whispered, his voice barely audible but filled with determination. A roguish grin spread across his face as he turned to leave the room. "Now, time for some mischief."

As he exited the armoury, Naruto's mind was already whirling with plans as the haki ringing dulled as soon as he discovered the blade. The marine base's pristine walls were about to receive an unexpected makeover, courtesy of the Obsidian Rogues' captain. With paint and brushes in hand, and the memory of that extraordinary sword etched in his mind, Naruto set off to leave his mark on G-6, both literally and figuratively.

Menchi strode confidently from the vending stalls, a triumphant smirk playing on her lips. She had just emerged victorious from a fierce haggling battle, leaving several traders bewildered by her negotiation skills. 'Ha! No one's going to mess with me again. I ain't the Gourmet Queen for no fucking reason,' she thought, adjusting her grip on a large brown bag filled with jars of various spices and seasonings.

The chef paused, her brow furrowing slightly as she tried to recall Nojiko's instructions. "Now, what time did Nojiko say to be back at the ship again?" she mused aloud, her gaze drifting towards the town's central clock tower. "It's almost 5, and I'm pretty sure she said the log would be reset around this time."

As if summoned by her thoughts, Menchi spotted a familiar head of blue hair emerging from the nautical shop. Nojiko was laden with more maps than they had arrived with, her expression one of satisfaction at her successful acquisitions. Before Menchi could call out to her crewmate, the air was suddenly filled with the piercing wail of alarms.

'The marine base?!' Both pirates' heads snapped towards the source of the commotion, their bodies tensing instinctively.

What they saw next left them stunned. Nojiko's jaw dropped in disbelief, while Menchi erupted into a fit of barely contained giggles. The once pristine ivory white marine base, G-6, was now a canvas of chaos. Vibrant orange streaks and bold red swirls covered its walls, transforming the symbol of naval authority into a pirate's masterpiece. The word "JUSTICE" was crossed out with a giant orange X, and above it stood a red swirl emblazoned with twin axes and a skull at its centre.

"Is... did who I'm thinking of do that?" Nojiko asked incredulously as she approached Menchi, her voice a mix of awe and exasperation.

Menchi, still chuckling, nodded. "With that signature, no doubt. And he was carrying two buckets of paint with him into town."

"We got here at what, 11? Midday?" Nojiko questioned, her mind racing.

"Yup," Menchi confirmed, popping the 'p' with a grin.

"Which means it was clean before we arrived. He did all of this in broad daylight!" Nojiko's voice was tinged with equal parts admiration and disbelief.

Just then, a group of marines rushed past them, their faces a mix of panic and urgency. "Report!" one of the marines barked into a den den mushi. Nojiko and Menchi could only make out a few words amidst the chaos.

"East Wing flooded... inside and outside the base vandalised."

Menchi's own jaw dropped as the full implications sank in. Her eyes widened as she spotted more marines rushing past their position, their faces a mix of panic and anger. "I think it's time for us to make a move," she urged, already starting to edge towards their escape route.

As they began their hasty retreat, Nojiko checked her log pose. "By the time we get back, the log should be fully reset," she confirmed, to which Menchi nodded. "But what about the others?"

Menchi's expression softened slightly, a hint of pride in her voice. "Naruto and Shinobu will be at the ship when they're ready. You know those two are strong. If Naruto wants to cause a ruckus, I believe he can take on anything here."

Nojiko couldn't help but smile at the chef's unwavering faith. "You've got a lot of confidence in our captain's abilities," she teased gently.

Menchi's cheeks flushed a deep crimson, her eyes narrowing as she snapped, "Shut it!"

"I'm not saying anything," Nojiko replied innocently, but her gold-finding grin said otherwise as they hurried back to the Hanahime.

Inside the G-6 base, chaos reigned. Alarms blared, echoing through the corridors, as Naruto sprinted away from a group of pursuing marines. The disguised pirate's heart pounded in his chest, but a mischievous grin played on his lips.

"Halt, vandal!" a marine shouted after him, his voice barely audible over the cacophony.

"You've got the wrong guy!" Naruto yelled back, his legs pumping furiously.

"Your lies won't save you from justice!" the marine retorted, undeterred.

"Where's your proof?" Naruto shot back, a hint of amusement in his voice.

The marine faltered, perplexed by the question. "You're holding the evidence," he finally replied.

Naruto glanced down and realized he was indeed still clutching a nearly empty pane of red paint, rattling by his side. "Oh, that makes sense," he muttered before spinning on a dime and launching the paint pane back at the marine, hitting him square in the face. The marine's body crumpled to the floor as Naruto resumed his sprint.

"Now, if I remember correctly, I flooded the east wing, ran past the prison cells, and visited the basement. How the hell do I get out of here?" Naruto mused aloud as he rounded a corner, only to collide with a bluenette who looked strikingly familiar.

"Kuina?" Naruto blurted out, his eyes widening in shock.

"Huh?" the girl responded; confusion evident in her eyes.

"Major, that's him, the reported vandal," a male marine officer called out from behind the shorter woman.

"Halt, villain! You are under arrest for destruction of property," the not-Kuina declared, drawing her sword and lunging at Naruto.

Naruto's eyes widened as he dodged to the side, an opportunity to counter flashing before him. But a vision of his dead friend stopped him short. "Yeah, nope to all of this," he muttered, turning on his heel and bolting in another direction, the marines—including the Kuina lookalike—hot on his trail.

As the rookie pirate in disguise attempted to lose his pursuers, he remained unaware that he was being herded towards the mess hall. After a few more twists and turns, Naruto found himself facing a pair of double doors. 'I do wonder what they serve food-wise for the marines. If they serve quality ramen, I might not be too late to switch sides,' he joked internally, still searching for an escape route.

Naruto leaped up and kicked open the doors, flying into the room in dramatic fashion and skidding to a stop. "Ah, no one is here," he noted, scanning the empty room. But then he spotted smoke emanating from the kitchen area.

"He went this way!" he heard the not-Kuina shout in the distance.

"White Out!" a voice called out much closer, prompting Naruto to duck just in time to avoid a fist propelled by smoke. As he turned to face his new opponent, he was met with the business end of a Seastone Jutte, which sent him flying off his feet and crashing into a stack of tables.

Naruto groaned, his vision swimming as he tried to regain his bearings. The figure standing before him was none other than Captain Smoker, his expression a mix of irritation and determination. "You've caused quite a mess, kid," Smoker growled, his grip on the Jutte tightening.

The chaos within G-6 base reached a fever pitch as Naruto faced off against Captain Smoker. The alarms blared incessantly, their shrill cries echoing through the corridors, a cacophonous backdrop to the intense confrontation unfolding in the mess hall.

Naruto's mind raced as he assessed the situation, his crystal armour shattered by Smoker's unexpected attack. 'That thing smashed straight through my crystal armour. What is it?' he pondered, a mixture of curiosity and concern flashing across his features. Despite the pain radiating through his jaw, a wry smile tugged at his lips. 'This just got a lot more complicated,' he thought, relishing the challenge.

As he rose to his feet, his hood fell back, revealing his golden mane and distinctive whisker-marked cheeks. "Well, you know what they say—go big or go home. We're in the Grand Line, baby!" Naruto quipped, his voice carrying a blend of excitement and defiance.

Recognition dawned on Smoker's face, his eyes widening in surprise. "You!" he shouted; memories of the East Blue wanted posters flashing through his mind. 'Naruto Uzumaki,' he realized, his grip on the jutte tightening.

"Me," Naruto smirked, a cocky glint in his eye. Before he could continue his taunt, a war cry from behind caught his attention. In a fluid motion, he created a crystal shard and quickly reached into the shard and transformed his right arm into a gleaming crystal guillotine. The swordswoman's blade clashed against his crystalline defence, the impact sending sparks flying, and in almost the same instance in a dazzling display of speed and skill, Naruto produced a sword seemingly from within the crystal, its sheath effortlessly deflecting Smoker's jutte. The marines' cries of disbelief were drowned out by the clash of steel and crystal.

"You're under arrest Smoker bit out as he struggled to push against the opposing force being Naruto.

"Hey dipshits, I'm rebellion made manifest, defiant as sin and don't you ever tell me what to do." Naruto said as his movements became a blur as he batted away the swordswoman and disarmed Smoker in quick succession. However, his attempt to land a solid kick on the white-haired marine proved futile as his leg passed harmlessly through Smoker's smoky form.

'Shit, logia,' Naruto realized, his mind already formulating a new strategy. Dodging Smoker's counterattack, he slid inside the marine's guard, channelling Haki into his fist. The gut punch connected with devastating force, folding Smoker in half and sending his cigars flying. A follow-up heel kick sent the infamous hunter crashing across the mess hall.

"Ha! Take that!" Naruto crowed; his voice filled with triumphant glee. "Man, haki fucking rules. I bet it's been a minute since your punk ass has taken damage."

The swordswoman's indignant cry cut through the air. "You foul criminal, unhand that blade!"

Naruto feigned innocence, his eyes wide with mock confusion. "What blade?"

"The Yamaoroshi," she explained, her voice tight with anger. "It's a skilled Meito I confiscated from an East Blue pirate. I keep great weapons out of villains' vile hands." As she assumed a familiar stance, Naruto felt a pang of nostalgia.

'They even stand the same,' he mused, memories of his deceased childhood friend flashing through his mind. Pushing the bittersweet thoughts aside, he addressed the sword directly. "Ah, so that's your name, Yamaoroshi. I like it. Nice to have you on board, partner."

The swordswoman's determination was palpable as she declared, "I won't let you leave with that sword."

Naruto's response dripped with sarcasm. "Oh honey," he paused for effect, "you don't have a chance in hell."

The ensuing clash was a testament to Naruto's superior skill. Tashigi found herself instantly on the defensive, barely blocking a strike she hadn't even seen coming. 'I didn't see him draw the blade,' she thought, a chill running down her spine.

Across the room, Smoker struggled to his feet, his mind reeling from the unexpected assault. 'What hit me?' he wondered, wincing at the bruise forming on his abdomen and the metallic taste of blood in his mouth.

As Naruto prepared to finish the fight, declaring, "Time to join your boss," Tashigi realized with horror that she couldn't dodge his incoming attack. She braced for impact, only to hear the resounding clang of metal on hardened crystal.

The crystal shattered upon impact, Naruto's eye widening at how this weapon was cancelling his devil fruit abilities.

Opening her eyes, she found Smoker standing protectively before her, his jutte blocking Naruto's powerful kick. The force of the impact sent shockwaves through the air, a testament to the immense power behind the blow.

Naruto's eyes narrowed, his voice a low snarl. "Didn't I already deal with your bum ass?" With a burst of strength, he followed through with his strike, the sheer force sending Smoker crashing through the mess hall wall in a shower of debris and dust.

"Captain Smoker!" Tashigi shouted as her superior was knocked away and the force from the strike blew her back.

As the dust settled, Naruto sheathed his newly acquired blade, his mind already plotting his escape. "Now, how to get out of here," he mused aloud, his eyes scanning the chaotic scene for potential exit routes.

The mess hall lay in ruins, a testament to the fierce battle that had just unfolded. As marine reinforcements began to pour in, Naruto knew his next move would be crucial. The thrill of the fight still coursed through his veins, but the urgency of escape was mounting. With Yamaoroshi at his hip he left the way he came in.

Naruto eventually made it outside to the main courtyard and smirked at his handiwork. The painted graffiti stained the outside walls for all to see, and soap bubbles poured out of the windows of the East Wing, which he had flooded. The marines were in chaos, hunting down the culprit, but they didn't notice him standing there, admiring his work.

"Uzumaki!" a voice shouted from behind him. It was the bluenette marine officer, standing in the doorway to the base.

"Hmm?" Naruto turned to face her, his smirk widening as nearby marines turned to see who their major was shouting at.

The bluenette leapt into the air, aiming to strike Naruto down. He didn't pay her any mind as he began to head for the gate. Just as she aimed to strike him from behind, she shouted, "Draw that blade, I'll defeat you and keep your evil from spreading!"

A blur sped past Naruto, and then there was a steel clang that rang out. Shinobu had intercepted the attack, her blade locking against the younger woman's.

"Who are you?" the bluenette demanded, her eyes wide with surprise.

'Kuina? No, not possible,' Shinobu thought as she assessed her opponent. "Someone like you can't even hope to touch my captain," she stated coolly. With a twist of her blade, she opened up the marine to eat a foot to the face, knocking the girl back into a crowd of marines and sending them all to the floor like bowling pins.

"Took you long enough," Naruto commented, placing his hands in his pockets.

"Hmph, I was waiting on you," Shinobu snipped before she eyed the latest accessory to her captain's attire. "We're sparring as soon as we get clear."

"Fine by me, gotta test out this girl," Naruto announced, patting the hilt of his new sword. The pair then dashed out of the base towards the forests that led to their ship.

Back at the ship, Hanabi and Gin stood on high alert, the distant wail of sirens cutting through the salty air. The Hanahime gently rocked in the waves, poised for a swift departure.

Hanabi's Byakugan eyes, their pale lavender hue contrasting sharply with her focused expression, scanned the coastline. "Looks like Nojiko and Menchi are back," she announced, her voice tinged with relief.

Gin, his face set in grim determination, merely nodded. He had already maneuvered the ship into an ideal getaway position, his years of experience evident in the precise placement.

Suddenly, Menchi vaulted over the railing, landing gracefully on deck. She carried not only her own shopping but also Nojiko's, her strength and agility on full display. Nojiko followed close behind, slightly out of breath but eyes shining with excitement.

A few tense minutes passed before Hanabi's lips curled into a knowing smirk. "Captain on deck!" she shouted, her voice ringing out across the ship.

"Huh?" Nojiko barely had time to utter before a blur of motion caught her eye. Naruto and Shinobu landed on the deck in a burst of speed, the ship rocking beneath the force of their arrival.

Naruto's face split into a wide grin, his eyes dancing with mischief. "Well now, kids, daddy's home. Let's roll out!" he cheered, clearly exhilarated from his day of causing chaos. His hand unconsciously brushed against his new prize, the sword Yamaoroshi. 'Swords have souls, or at least a will to be used,' he mused. 'Who knew the old man wasn't talking shit?'

Gin grumbled under his breath but relinquished the helm to his captain. He moved swiftly to check on the rear cannons he had painstakingly installed over the past day. 'With that racket, we're definitely getting chased,' he thought grimly.

Shinobu, ever the voice of reason, turned to Nojiko. "We all set?" she asked, her tone business-like but with an undercurrent of urgency.

Nojiko nodded confidently. "Log pose ready and pointing dead ahead."

"That's fine by me," Shinobu replied. Her voice rose as she issued orders, "Now reel in the anchor, unfurl the sails on my command. Hanabi, if you would please."

"Right," Hanabi chirped, a mischievous glint in her eye as she skipped to the stern of the ship.

Shinobu's grip tightened on the railing. "It's about to get rocky. I advise you all to hold onto something," she warned, her voice carrying across the deck.

The crew heeded her words, each finding a secure handhold. Naruto, already at the helm, merely widened his stance, his hands firm on the wheel.

"Nitro, nitro no thunderclap!" Hanabi's voice rang out. A deafening clap split the air, followed by a booming explosion that launched the Hanahime forward. The ship skipped across the water like a stone, leaving a trail of churning foam in its wake.

As they gained distance from the shore, Naruto's voice cut through the rush of wind and spray. "Unfurl the sails!" he commanded. The crew sprang into action, and soon the sails billowed out, catching the wind and propelling them further into the vast expanse of the Grand Line.

The Hanahime surged forward, leaving behind the chaos of the marine base and carrying its crew towards new adventures. Naruto's laughter rang out, a sound of pure joy and freedom that seemed to embody the very spirit of their pirate journey.

The sleek, dark ship cut through the waves silently, its black sails barely visible against the night sky. On the deck, Daki stood at the helm, her eyes fixed on the horizon. Beside her, Heinkel pored over a map, occasionally glancing at the Log Pose on his wrist.

"We're approaching the edge of G-6's territory," Heinkel muttered, his voice low and gravelly. "If our intel is correct, the Obsidian Rogues should be in this vicinity."

Daki nodded, a predatory smile playing on her lips. "Perfect. It's about time we contacted our captain, don't you agree." She turned to one of their underlings. "Bring me the Den Den Mushi."

The subordinate scurried off, returning moments later with a large, ornate snail. Its shell was decorated with intricate patterns of flowers, and its eyes seemed to glow with an otherworldly intelligence.

Daki picked up the receiver, and the snail's expression changed to match her smirk. After a few moments of ringing, a smooth, cultured voice answered.

"Ah, Daki and Heinkel. I trust you have news for me?" The voice of Hanafuda lilted through the Den Den Mushi.

"Indeed we do," Daki purred. "We've tracked the Obsidian Rogues to the edge of marine territory. They're about to enter open waters."

"Excellent," Hanafuda replied, the Den Den Mushi's eyes narrowing with pleasure. "And their recent... activities?"

Heinkel stepped forward. "They've caused quite a stir at Marine Base G-6. Reports are still coming in, but it seems Uzumaki has vandalized the base and stolen a valuable item of sorts."

A low chuckle came through the snail. "How delightful. Uzumaki continues to exceed my expectations. Now, my dear hunters, what is your next move?"

Daki and Heinkel exchanged a glance before Daki answered. "We plan to shadow them, gathering more intelligence on their capabilities and crew dynamics. When the moment is right, we'll strike."

"Very good," Hanafuda approved. "Remember, I want devil fruit and if one of them has eaten it bring them and Uzumaki in alive. The others... well, use your discretion. But do try to keep collateral damage to a minimum. We wouldn't want to draw too much attention, would we?"

"Of course not," Heinkel growled. "We're professionals, after all."

"Indeed you are," Hanafuda's voice oozed satisfaction. "Keep me informed of any significant developments. And remember, failure is not an option."

With that, the connection cut off, leaving Daki and Heinkel staring at the now-silent Den Den Mushi.

"Well," Daki said, turning to face the dark horizon once more, "you heard the boss. Let the hunt begin."

Heinkel nodded, a grim smile on his face as he barked orders to the crew.

But then was an explosion off in the distance.

'What was that?" Heinkel asked as a blurred ship skipped right past and continued further til they lost sight of the ship.

'Was that them?' the head gunslinger of the DeNile Pirates asked mentally as he growled as he began issuing new orders to the crew.

THE END

A.N

Ok side quest completed Now we are getting into the new arc officially.

Naruto has a grade sword. Its skilled so ranked within the top 50 in the world.

If you remember most normal blades get melted whenever he uses electro through his weapons.

Gin has the devil fruit major power up. (tbf after that fight at baratie, I wanted Gin to have a similar playing field against Sanji or even future Jimbei)

Thoughts on Naruto vs Smoker not much but enough to show Naruto is not struggling with anyone who is not at least warlord level.

I would feel bad, but I think I've done Smoker justice he got some hits in.

Also, Naruto used no named attacks that should show what time he's on.

Btw Naruto is choosing when to tap into certain forms of haki.

Writing this I thought it may feel rushed so let me know if you feel the same.

Also, I don't think a single person has guessed what the devil fruit is yet, other than ancient Zoan.

I'll give you a hint, it's not a carnivore…. Or a fruit that has already been taken by Kaido's crew or Xdrake (That might make it too easy)

Also one last thing on this crew accept Naruto I DON'T see any conquerors potential out here.

Also, no more crew additions until this next arc is complete. Also new bounty photo acquired for the future update.

We've now seen the power of a bored Naruto.

Leave a review as it feeds my engine of creation.
