The morning sun shown bright over the town of Pallet as a brunet woman looked over at a clock and took notice of the time.
"Hmm. He's usually up right when his alarm goes off." The woman said to herself before she walked in to the room of a young boy and looked over to the wall where his ball shaped alarm clock was on the ground, shattered. "Just like his father. Even training in his dreams.' She said while she shook her head. "Ash? Ash. Wake up." She said before her son stirred from his sleep before his eyes bolted open.
"OH NO NO NO NO NO! I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T WAKE UP! I'M GONNA LOSE MY CHANCE AT A POKEMON!" Ash exclaimed as he was too desperate to get moving to chance out of his pajamas.
"ASH! Calm down." Ash's mother, Delia said as she grabbed her son by the shoulders. "It's okay. I've taken care of it." She said.
"What are you talking about?" Ash asked, his nerves calming a little.
"You do know that your father had Poli a long time before he ever got Saur, right?" Delia asked, Ash nodding, having heard many of the stories of his father's past adventures and all about his Pokemon. "Well, are you forgetting you have a Pokemon you got before a Starter too?" She asked, Ash taking a moment before the realization hit him. "That's right." She said as she pulled out a red ball with a black seem and black grips on the side.
(Flashback)
A six year old Ash was running through a forest right behind a boy with spiky brown hair.
"Hurry up, Ash. We're going home tomorrow and I'm not going to miss out seeing the all the Pokemon here that we don't have back home." The boy said as he picked up his pace.
"Gary! Wait!" Ash called to his friend before he tripped over a root while the brown haired boy kept running. "That jerk. He could have at least slowed down." He said while getting up. He then prepared to follow Gary before he heard a sound off in the distance. Taking only a second to look back in the direction Gary had run off, Ash took off in the direction of the the sound.
Within several moments, Ash arrived to see a small grey bear-like Pokemon with white bits of its fur looking almost like a headband. The Pokemon in question was being attack by a pack of Nidoran.
"Hey! Knock it off!" Ash yelled as he ran and grabbed the Pokemon out of the path of attacks from two of the Nidoran, accidentally kicking another one when he jumped.
The pack then focused their attention on to the boy before a small chunk of them were hit to the ground by a blast of water. The then looked up to see Delia with a Blastoice next to her and an aura of rage around her as her eyes.
"Leave. Now." Delia said with an angry growl in her voice as all the Nidoran ran away. "Ash! Are you okay, sweetie?" She asked as she ran to her son.
"Yeah, I'm alright. But this guy doesn't look too good." Ash said as he showed the injured Pokemon.
"Oh no. Poor thing." Delia said as she got down on her knees. "And I don't have Jiggly or Cleffo to use Heal Pulse." She said as Ash became more worried.
"Can't you just catch it so we can take it to get help somewhere else?" Ash asked, not wanting to leave the Pokemon.
"Okay. Let me see if I have a ball on me." She said before rummaging in her purse until coming to the red and black ball. 'Of coarse all I have the the Cherishball Oh well. I was probably gonna use it to get one of them a gift anyway.' She thought before tapping the button of the Cherishball to the bear-Pokemon's head as it was sucked in in a flash of black energy with a red outline.
From that day, Ash and Delia nursed the Pokemon, Kubfu back to health until on the day the day that they were supposed to return home from their vacation where they had had offered to release the Pokemon only for it to turn down the offer and decided to come with them. Going forward, Ash and Kubfu were all but inseparable, sometimes even acting as if the two of them were of one singular mind.
(Flashback end)
"So, even if you miss a starter, you're still fine." Delia said as she handed Ash the Cherishball. "Now with that settled, maybe you should change out of your Pajamas." She said, Ash chuckling and rubbing the back of her head in embarrassment. Delia could only shake her head as she walked out of the room. She then looked over to a picture of a younger version of herself clad in a black dress hanging off a young man who was a dead ringer for Ash clad wearing a black and red outfit.
"That boy of ours is just like you." Delia said with a smile, knowing great adventures awaited her son. She then turned around to see Ash now clad in a pair of jeans, a black shirt blue jacket with short white sleeves, black and white sneakers, and a red and white hair with a green mark in the center.
"Okay, Mom. Wish me luck!" Ash called as he grabbed a green backpack and ran out the door.
A short while later Ash ran to approach a large compound with a windmill behind the main building. He then took notice of a certain boy clad in a large purple shirt and wearing a green and yellow yin yang necklace.
"Gary." Ash greeted as he stopped running.
"Oh. If it isn't Ash. Looks you're already starting out behind me." Gary said in a cocky tone.
"Dude. You got your Pokedex first. Big deal. We still have the same amount of Pokemon." Ash said as he held up the Cherishball.
"Crap. Should have thought of that." Garry mumbled. "Ah well. At least I got a really good Starter" He pointed.
"Okay I can get this. You're big in to stats and you want to take on your dad someday sooooo... Squritle." Ash said, Gary shrugging in response.
"Well, you figured it out." Gary said before before letting the blue turtle-Pokemon out of its ball.
"Hey there, Squirtle." Ash said as he squatted down in front of the Water-type. "Take care of my buddy here. He may act like a big douche. But he's a good guy." He said, both he and his boyhood friend chuckled.
"Well. Good luck out there, Ashy boy. You're gonna need it." Gary said before he and Ash shared a fist bump before bidding each other farewell and Ash went to enter the lab. Upon doing so, he was met by a white haired man wearing a red polo shirt, and khakis, and a lab coat.
"Ah, Ash. I was starting to fear you wouldn't arrive." The man, Gary's grandfather, Professor Samuel Oak greeted as he looked up from his desk.
"I'm so sorry I'm late, Professor. I couldn't sleep which caused me to oversleep." Ash explained, gaining a chuckle and head shake from the professor.
"Well that's not a good start. You missed your chance for the proper starter Pokemon." Professor Oak said, getting a slightly disappointed look from the aspiring Pokemon trainer. "However, your mother did call to inform me of your special circumstance and the ownership of Kubfu has now officially been transferred over on to your Pokedex." He informed Ash as he handed said device to Ash. "Will you be requiring any Pokeballs?" He asked.
"Nah. I already have plenty to use and Dad taught me how to make more a couple years back." Ash confirmed while tapping on the strap of his backpack.
"Very well. Then I wish you good luck and safe travels, Ash." Professor Oak said as a farewell before Ash left the lab.
Once outside, Ash smirked at the Cherishball before tossing it in to the air and allowing Kubfu out.
"Well, old buddy. You ready to start our very own journey?" Ash asked with a smile while offering his fist up to Kubfu.
"Kub Kub." The bear-Pokemon shouted in joy before bumping Ash's fist with his own. Ash then stood before he turned to the north before he and his partner Pokemon began to walk.
Some time later Ash was walking along Route 1 while looking out in excitement at all the Pokemon he could potentially catch.
'Okay. Need to focus. What Pokemon should I catch first?' He thought before he noticed a river in the distance. 'Right. Mom and Dad always told me that Water types are key to any journey.' He remembered as he and Kubfu changed their direction towards the river, passing a patch of grass that a Spearow popped its head out of while looking around before shrugging and going back to what it was doing.
A few minute later, Ash and Kubfu arrived at the side of the river where a red haired girl wearing a yellow outfit with a blue collar, and buttons with a red swimsuit underneath.
"Hi there." Ash greeted before setting down. "They biting?" He asked, pulling a high quality rod out.
"It's slow going. The Pokemon just aren't going for my bait." The red head said with a sigh as she reeled back in.
"Maybe this'll help." Ash said as he held a jar up. "It's a special paste bait made for Kelpsy and Rindo Berries." He explained, coating the grabber at the end of his line and allowing the red head to do the same before they both threw out their lines. Within moments, both of them felt a tug and pulled out a Pokemon each.
The girl pulled out a purple clam Pokemon with a black with bulging eyes and a stuck out tongue while ash pulled out a blue Pokemon with two yellow lures and yellow eyes with cross shaped pupils.
"Kubfu! Ice Punch the water! Ash called out before his partner followed his instructions and punched the water with a cyan glowing fist which cause a wide bridge of ice to form over the river and the two landed. "Wait, a Chinchou?" He asked as he pulled out his Pokedex.
"Chinchou. The angler Pokemon. Sailors have been known to use the bulbs of this Pokemon to light their way an avoid other ships since ancient times." Ash's Pokedex said.
"Those are supposed to be super rare around here! I can't believe our luck." Ash said before he looked to and nodded at Kubfu.
"That Sheldar may not be as rare. But it's still a good find. Come on out! Starmie!" The red head called before a purple ten pointed starfish Pokemon with a red jewel in the center.
The two wild Water types both fired water guns at the the trainer owned Pokemon, both trainers quickly calling for the two of their Pokemon to dodge the attacks.
"Kubfu! Use Fire Punch!" Ash called out, remembering an old piece of advice to use less effective moves while trying to catch a Pokemon. The Fire type move made contact with the Water/Electric type. As it did, Ash took notice of a burn mark left on the wild Pokemon. Seeing an opening, Ash pulled out a blue and red ball with three yellow lines in the red part.
On her end the red haired girl noticed the was about to send out an attack. "Starmie! Use Swift to hit the the Ice Shards!" She called as the two long range attack collided in midair, several of the stars from Swift, getting past and hitting the clam Pokemon, knocking it in to the air. "Now! Rapid Spin!" She called as the starfish Pokemon knock it to the ground before she pulled out a basic Pokeball.
"Pokeball/Lureball go!" Ash and the red haired girl called out as they threw the balls, both Pokemon being pulled in to them in blue and red lights respectively before both of them shook three times and clicked, signifying the capture of the two Pokemon, gaining cheers from both trainers as they went and recovered the balls.
"Nice! First catch of the journey!" Ash cheered as he and Kubfu fist bumped.
"Oh. That was your first catch?" The red haired girl asked as she recovered her own ball.
"Yup headed out from Pallet Town today. Name's Ash by the way." Ash said to the girl, who then introduced herself as 'Misty.' Just then, Ash noticed a storm cloud approaching. "Ooh. That doesn't look good. We'd better hurry if we don't want to get caught in that storm." He said to Kubfu.
"We can take my bike." Misty offered as she climbed on said bike and allowed Ash to stand on the bars of the back wheel with Kubfu hanging over the back of his shoulder and from there, the group began to ride towards Viridan City.
Well, there you go, guys. I really hope you enjoyed this. Any feedback would be greatly welcomed and until next time and as always... Keep on keeping on.
