Inside the Dead Moon Circus Tent, the Amazoness Quartet and the other lemures disguised as performers just wrapped up another show and were pleased with themselves. However, they couldn't afford any rest and started rehearsing their acts for the next show. As they rehearsed, they talked amongst themselves.
"I've figured it out!" a male dressed as a scientist proclaimed. "I've figured it out! I've figured it out! I've figured it out!"
"Well, well. It seems the boy has figured it out," a chubby woman in a rocking chair said while holding a flower. "He's figured out that he should only be dreaming in his sleep."
"And then, the blink of an eye," cut in a giant muscular male with a pink bird on his head. "The young man became an adult."
PallaPalla joined in while balancing on a ball. "That's when you find out that your beloved handsome prince is really a toad in the mirror," she said.
"The magic of dreams can make him look like a prince," said CereCere while swinging on a trapeze. "But his voice is that of a toad."
"Well, can't you try and realize your dreams even as an adult?" another male with a moon mask on his face asked while juggling.
"That's a dream that will never come true," VesVes scoffed as she hung upside down by an elephant before righting herself up. "You're basically asking for the impossible."
"As they say, enjoy the fruits while they're still ripe and sweet," JunJun called out as she walked on a tightrope. "Eat it up while innocence remains. After all…"
"Always remember not to forget," they all said. "A child's dream is a dream they should never get…"
And they all continued to repeat this manta as they rehearsed.
It was then that Zirconia appeared. "Silence!" she loudly boomed. "I SAID SILENCE!"
Immediately, the lemures scattered, leaving the Amazoness Quartet.
"Well, Well. Look who's back," said VesVes. "Welcome back, Granny Zirconia."
"Where've you been all this time?" asked JunJun. "We wondered if you would stay in that room of yours and turn into a shut-in or something."
"Don't be ridiculous!" barked Zirconia. "And for that matter, don't call me Granny!"
"But it's not like it's an insult or anything," said CereCere. "It's a term of endearment."
"Yeah, and I think it's cute," agreed PallaPalla.
Zirconia growled in annoyance but composed herself, clearing her throat. "Well, to answer your question, I have been busy working on something to help us in our war against the White Moon Kingdom. And after much preparation, I am ready to put it into action."
She then took out the crystal she had made before.
"If you recall correctly, I had Tiger's Eye use this on Solaris before his passing," said Zirconia. "Now, it's time for you all to see its true purpose."
The Amazoness Quartet looked at the crystal curiously before Zirconia tossed it, letting it fall until it stopped just in front of them, hovering a few inches from the floor. She then raised her arms, holding up her staff.
"Now, rise up!" she commanded. "Rise up, my servant, in the name of the Dead Moon and Queen Nehelenia! May the powers of nightmares give you life as you take form!"
She aimed with her staff, and Zircon unleashed a powerful stream of black lightning, representing the powers of darkness at the crystal.
It began to shine brightly in an ominous shade of violet. As it did, the same circle with a slit in the middle began to show underneath it. Then, several cracks appeared throughout its form and suddenly exploded, erupting into a pillar of dark black flames that startled the Amazoness Quartet.
Then, the flames formed a humanoid shape, and after a few seconds passed, they became a male.
He looked identical to Solaris, but his color scheme was black and violet, with the symbol on his chest being a demon's eye and his face covered by a pale purple visor.
The four girls were amazed and shocked, while Zirconia was pleased.
Two glowing golden eyes shone underneath the visor as the new visitor looked at his surroundings.
"What is this?" he wondered as he looked around. "And where am I?"
"You are inside the Dead Moon Cirus," replied Zirconia. "And I have given you life thanks to the collected darkness of the crystal and some of my power powers."
The armored male looked up at Zirconia. "Who are you?" he asked. "And why would you go through the trouble of giving me life?"
"I am Zirconia, ringmaster of the Dead Moon Circus and loyal servant of Queen Nehelenia," she introduced. "And the reason is because I need your strength. To keep it brief, we are searching for a winged horse called Pegasus, and a powerful artifact called the Silver Crystal. However, or enemies, the Guardians haven't been making it easy for us yet because some people don't know how to get the job done around here."
The Amazoness Quartet all pretended not to notice.
"And so, I would like to recruit you to our cause and help us find what I have mentioned," Zirconia continued. "If we don't, our enemies will destroy everything we've worked so hard to accomplish, hence why you're standing here now."
"I see," said the male. "But be that as it may, I have no reason to obey you."
The Amazoness Quartet gasped while Zirconia narrowed her eyes.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful to be given life," the male said. "But that being said, you don't appear to be the kind to be powerful enough to create beings such as me. How do I know you're not lying and taking advantage of the situation? If I wanted to, I could attack you right now and take you and everyone around me out."
"Hey! You're calling Granny Zirconia a liar and weak?!" snapped VesVes. "You'd better watch your mouth!"
"Yeah! She may not look like it, but she's strong!" barked PallaPalla with a pout. "And if you think you can take us on, you got another thing coming!"
But Zirconia was calm. "So, that's how it is?" she hummed ominously. "Very well then. You've left me no choice then. If my words aren't enough to make you obey me, I'll just have to show you who's in charge around here."
"So you want me to fight you?" the male spoke while taking a stance. "Very well then. I will accept your challenge."
He held out his hand as a sword adorned with black and purple gems along its black appeared in it. Then, he jumped into the air and lunged toward Zirconia, giving his sword a mighty swing while Zirconia defended herself, holding up her hand and creating a barrier. When they collided, a powerful shockwave shook the tent as they entered a stalemate. They struggled as they tried to overpower one another until the male started pushing Zirconia back.
The Amazonesses grew worried and were about to jump in to help. However, Zirconia released even more strength to her barrier, swiftly overpowering and repelling the male, sending him flying, landing flat on his back, and dropping his sword.
The Quartets cheered. "All right! Way to go, Granny Zirconia!"
Zirconia was panting from exhaustion while caught off guard. "He's stronger than I imagined!" she thought. "If I hadn't used my true power, I would have been in trouble!"
However, she was quick to recollect herself. "Have you learned your place now?" she confidently asked the male. "I was the one who brought you into this world, and I could just as easily take you out. So, it'd be wise for you to obey me!"
The male stood up and stared at Zirconia before bending down on one knee. "Your name was Zirconia, correct? You have bested me with your strength. Therefore, I will submit and obey your every command."
Zirconia smirked. "That's more like it," she said.
"Well then, I guess you're one of us now," said JunJun. "Welcome to the team, uh, um." She paused for a brief moment. "Now that I think about it, what do we call you?"
"Ooh! I have an idea!" chirped PallaPalla. "Why don't we call him Solaris Black? Since his armor is black and he looks just like him!"
"Yeah, how about no?" CereCere deadpanned. "That's practically asking for trouble. He needs something original."
"I have already decided on a name for him," said Zirconia. "Since he was created from the darkness that dwelled inside Solaris and was given life by the magic of nightmares, I have chosen Tenebris."
The Amazoness Quartet couldn't help but be impressed.
"OK. Not gonna lie, that actually sounds cool," hummed VesVes with a slight smile. "I like it."
"If that's what you wish to call me, then so shall it be," the newly named male acknowledged. "From now on, I, Tenebris, shall be at your service, Zirconia, and will await your every command."
"Very good," said Zirconia. "Now, Amazoness Quartet, I want you all to continue the search for Pegasus and its host, as well as the Silver Crystal. And you can start with this."
Zircon then flashed a beam of light, conjuring a photo in Zirconia's hand, and she threw it over to them. The four inspected the image, which depicted one of Chibiusa's friends, Momo.
"Tenebris, you will assist them. Keep in mind that all the humans are your enemies. Most especially the guardians from the White Moon Kingdom. Do whatever it takes to eliminate them."
"As you wish," said Tenebris.
In Juuban, Chibiusa and Momo were at the Game Center Crown arcade. They were playing a crane game, trying to win a prize.
While they were playing, Motok came by, sticking something on a pillar next to them. It was a promotional poster of the Dead Moon Circus, which caught their attention.
"Oh, wow! It's the Dead Moon Circus!" gushed Momo with excitement. "I heard Aki went to see it with her mom last week. She said it was totally amazing! I wish I could go!"
Chibiusa, on the other hand, wasn't as excited. "Well, uh, it's OK, I guess," she said carefully. "I mean, I'm not as much a fan of circuses."
"No way! You got to see it, too?!" gasped Momo. "Lucky!"
Then, Harusuke, Usagi, and Rei came in. They saw the advertisement too.
"So, they got you putting up the posters, too, eh, Motoki?" asked Harusuke.
"Yeah. The bosses there asked us to advertise it here," replied Motoki. "By the way, Usagi, shouldn't Mamoru be with you right now? Normally, you two would be together on a date or something."
A brief frown flicked on Usagi's face before she smiled. "Oh, uh, he's not feeling too good," she told him. "He's at home resting, so I figured I'd give him some time to himself."
"I'm sorry to hear that," said Motoki. "Tell him I hope he feels well."
But the others said nothing.
Then, Momo approached Harusuke and Rei, gazing at them curiously. "Say, Harusuke, it's not every day that I see you and Rei together by yourselves," she said. "Are you two dating or something?"
"Oh, no. It's nothing like that," said Harusuke. "Rei and I were just hanging out together as friends today. We were going to go to check out a museum."
Momo squinted suspiciously. "That sounds like a date to me," she said. "You're both even dressed so fancy for being an outing of friends."
"Well, uh," Harusuke stammered.
Then, Rei cut in. "It's all right, Harusuke," she said. "Momo's not wrong. It technically is a date. However, it's not a real one. You see, Momo, I'm helping Harusuke with his training."
"Training?" puzzled Momo.
Harusuke was quick to blurt. "H-Hey! Rei!"
But Rei went on to explain. "You see, this is training for Harusuke so that he will be ready for the world of dating," she importantly said. "I can't give you any more details, but I'm showing him all the ins and outs of how a date should be so that he'll know what to do when he finds that special someone. And as a dating expert myself, I insisted to show him one of my favorite dating spots."
Harusuke could only pinch his nose in exasperation, while Usagi and Chibiusa could only stare at Rei.
Momo, however, was filled with admiration. "Oh, wow. You're so nice, Rei. Isn't it great that your big brother Harusuke's got such a nice and wonderful friend, Chibiusa?"
"I… guess so," Chibiusa said doubtfully.
"Hey, Momo, I'm sure that when you grow up, you'll find someone just as caring about you," added Rei.
"You think so?" said Momo eagerly. "That'd be so nice… I can't wait to grow up!"
Then, they noticed something.
Not too far away, a crowd was gathered around two people beside a console, watching them play. One of them was VesVes in human disguise, wearing a plain red one-piece mini dress, and the other was Tenebris, who was posing as a male wearing casual jeans and a shirt while keeping his face hidden with matted black hair. Tenebis was playing a shooting game while VesVes watching and giving him pointers while chewing some gum.
Usagi's group couldn't help but look at them curiously.
"I don't remember seeing those two around before," murmured Motoki.
Then, to the crowd's surprise, Tenebris took down the game's big boss, earning him the highest score.
"Way to go, Bud!" smiled VesVes. "It's your first time playing, and you've absolutely crushed it!"
"Only because you taught me," Tenebris replied. "Although, I don't fully understand the point of this game, as you call it."
"It's called having fun," said VesVes. "Seriously. It seems I've got a lot to teach you."
Then, a beeping sound came from her pocket, which was coming from a pager.
"Uh oh. It looks like that'll have to wait," said VesVes. "Come on. We better get back before we're late. The show's about to start."
The two then started off, leaving the arcade. But while walking past Usagi's group, VesVes happened to notice Momo. When she did, she stopped letting the bubble she made with her gum pop.
"Say, I couldn't help but hear you talking earlier," she said. "Something about wanting to go to the Dead Moon Circus?"
"Yeah, what's it to you?" asked Momo.
VesVes then took out some tickets and handed them to Momo, much to the surprise of her and the others.
"No way! Tickets to the Dead Moon Circus?!" Momo exclaimed.
"A relative of mine is good friends with the circus's ringmaster and gave them these," explained VesVes. "But they had too many, so they gave some of them to me. And don't worry, they aren't fake or anything."
"But… why give them to me?" asked Momo. "I can't accept these."
"Sure you can," smiled VesVes. "Besides, there's lots more where that came from, and this way, you can watch it with all of your friends."
And before Momo could say anything further, VesVes and Tenebris walked away.
As they did, everyone couldn't help but watch them leave. Harusuke, in particular, couldn't help but stare at the boy with VesVes.
"Something about that boy feels off," he thought. "Although, I'm not sure what it is."
On another day, Usagi's party with Momo showed up at the Dead Moon Circus Tent to watch another performance. Due to the recent events, the group decided to come with Momo and Chibiusa as their chaperones. In truth, they were with them to protect the two from any potential danger from the enemy, particularly Momo.
Momo couldn't help but be amazed when she took her seat. "Wow! This place is huge!" she marveled. "I can't believe I'm going to see the Dead Moon Circus! Isn't this exciting, Chibiusa?!"
"Y-yeah. It sure is," Chibiusa said, trying to be enthusiastic.
But she couldn't help but be on guard and worried. Usagi and the others were as well.
"Make sure you guys stay on guard," warned Rei. "We're here to keep an eye on Chibiusa and Momo, so if you see anything suspicious, don't be afraid to take action."
"Roger that," said Minako. "I'll make sure to have eyes like a chicken! They'll never leave my sight!"
"Uh, Minako, I think it's eyes like a hawk rather than a chicken," corrected Usagi.
As everyone started taking their seats, VesVes, JunJun, CereCere, and PallaPalla were watching in the shadows from above.
"Look! There she is!" observed PallaPalla as she pointed.
"Now all we have to do is lure that girl away from her friends," said VesVes. "But how do we do that?"
"Leave that to me," smiled CereCere. "I'll figure something out."
From there, the show began. The performers showed off all their exceptional talents and skills as the crowd laughed and applauded, enjoying themselves.
But as the performance continued, Momo noticed something. As one of the performers, a woman in a ballerina dress with a bear's head swung across the trapeze, she was mysteriously replaced with CereCere before switching back. Momo couldn't help but rub her eyes, wondering if her eyes were playing tricks on her. But as she stared at the bear ballerina, she couldn't help but continue to do so as it swung back and forth like a pendulum, causing her to grow sleepy. Eventually, she became hypnotized, her eyes growing vacant as her mind slipped away.
Then, without any warning, Momo got up and started walking towards the exit in a daze, which didn't go unnoticed by Chibiusa.
"Momo! Where are you going?!" Chibiusa whispered out to her. "The show's not over yet!"
Momo didn't answer her. She kept walking until she was outside the tent and eventually stopped between some shipping containers. Then, the hypnosis broke, and she came to her senses.
"What the? Where am I?" she wondered aloud. "How did I get here?"
Then, all four of the Amazoness appeared, leering at Momo wickedly.
"I called you here," smiled CereCere ominously. "Thank you for coming."
Feeling scared, Momo began to tremble as she took a step back. "Wh-Who are you people?" she asked nervously.
But VesVes promptly held up a hand as a red sphere made of stone, similar to what PallaPalla used, appeared in her hand. "Now then, let's have at that Dream Mirror," she smirked as she conjured a pool cue, taking aim. "Now, TAMA-TSUKI!"
She then shot, firing her stone right at Momo. The little girl ducked, avoiding it, but this caused it to rapidly ricochet back and forth before finally hitting her smack on her back. When it did, her Dream Mirror came shooting out from her body, knocking her unconscious.
VesVes then approached the mirror, preparing to look inside, but at that moment…
"Stop right there!"
The four amazonesses looked up in time for Super Sailor Moon and the gang to arrive.
"This was meant to be a fun night at the circus!" said Sailor Mercury.
"And you're going to pay for ruining it with your evil prank!" admonished Sailor Mars.
"We're the Sailor Guardians…" said Sailor Venus.
"...who fight for love and justice!" said Sailor Jupiter.
"And in the name of the Moon…" Super Sailor Moon, Solaris, and Super Sailor Chibi Moon said together. "We'll punish you!"
"We finally meet," JunJun said with a scornful smirk. "We were wondering when you would show up."
"It's a pleasure to meet you all again," said CereCere. "Since you've taken the time for your introduction, let us introduce ourselves."
"We're descended from the legendary Amazon warriors," said VesVes. "The strongest warriors of the jungle!"
"We're the Amazoness Quartet!" all four of them said.
"So, I take it that you're the replacements for the Amazon Trio. Never would have guessed," Solaris grunted. "But we've beaten them, and we'll beat you, too!"
"I hate to break it to you, but it won't be that simple," VesVes snarked back. "Besides, my wild beasts are hungry, and we won't allow you to interfere."
She turned her cue into a whip and gave it a crack as her shadow extended and changed shape.
"Now, come forth, my Lemures! Gara-Gara Girl, the Dream-Eating Serpent!"
From VesVes's shadow, a giant creature came forth. She had the body of a human female that was turquoise-colored with gray hair styled in a long ponytail and red eyes. However, her midsection was a snake's head, while the rest was its long serpentine body.
"Oh, great! Just when the circus monsters couldn't get any more freaky!" complained Super Sailor Moon.
Gara-Gara lunged at the girls, her snake head of a stomach baring its fangs and snapping at them, and the guardians all scattered and avoided her.
While they were distracted, VesVes took the chance to stick her head into Momo's dream mirror to search, soon pulling her head out.
"Dang it," she complained in disappointment. "No sign of Pegasus."
"How disappointing," sighed CereCere. "It looks like Zirconia's given us a bad lead."
"But it's not all that bad," smirked JunJun. "Since we've taken the time to expose her dream mirror, how's about we give it to Gara-Gara?"
"Good idea," snicked VesVes. "Gara-Gara, eat that dream mirror while it's ripe!"
Gara-Gara obeyed, lunging toward the mirror, and before the guardians could stop her, her snake mouth opened wide, taking the mirror inside it and swallowing it whole.
"No! Momo's Dream Mirror!" cried Super Sailor Chibi Moon. "How dare you!"
In a fit of desperation and impulse, Super Sailor Chibi Moon dashed at Gara-Gara, and just as the lemures opened her mouth, she jumped right into it while holding it open, desperately trying to reach into its throat to get the mirror out. In response, Gara-Gara thrashed around, trying to spit the little guardian out, but she couldn't.
"Super Sailor Chibi Moon!" the guardians cried in alarm.
"Hang on, kid! I'll give you a hand!" Solaris shouted as he summoned his blade.
But Sailor Jupiter raised an arm, blocking his path. "No! Don't! If you're not careful, you'll hit Chibi Moon!"
The amazoness watched the scene, confused while disdainful.
"What's the deal? It's just a dream mirror," scoffed JunJun. "I knew you guys were soft, but I didn't think you all cared so much about it."
"Why? Especially since it's so useless," CereCere spoke with scorn. "Honestly, you should be thanking us we're rid of such useless waste."
"Momo's dream is not a waste!" Super Sailor Chibi Moon yelled while straining. "So don't you talk like you know the value of it!"
Finally, Gara-Gara threw Super Sailor Chibi Moon out of its mouth while sending her slamming into the carrier and into the ground. While Super Sailor Moon rushed to help her, the other guardians took their chance and attacked.
"MARS FLAME SNIPER!"
"JUPITER OAK EVOLUTION!"
"MERCURY AQUA RHAPSODY!"
"VENUS LOVE AND BEAUTY SHOCK!"
The attacks struck true, and Gara-Gara couldn't take the damage as she staggered. The moment she did, Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibi Moon, having recovered, summoned their Moon Kaleido Scopes and delivered the finishing blow.
"MOON GORGEOUS MEDITATION!"
And with their combined finishing move, Gara-Gara was destroyed, staging out and shattering into obliteration, leaving Momo's Dream Mirror unharmed.
Solaris then gunned for the Amazonesses. "Now it's your turn!" he roared as he summoned his sword.
But as he swung, a glowing violet circle appeared on the ground, and something sprung up from it, stopping his blade with one of its own and repelling him, forcing him backward.
As Solaris looked up, he was shocked to see that the person who stopped him was Tenebris.
"Wh-What the?!" he couldn't help but exclaim.
"Am I to assume that these are the enemies you spoke of?" Tenebris asked VesVes.
"Sure are," replied VesVes. "Nice timing, by the way."
The Sailor Guardians were shocked as well.
"No way! It can't be!" gasped Sailor Venus.
"Dark Nova!" exclaimed Super Sailor Moon.
"I'm not sure who this Dark Nova is, but that's not who I am," the dark Solaris counterpart said. "I am Tenebris, guardian of the Dead Moon. And anyone who dares bare their fangs against my allies will answer to me."
Solaris couldn't help but stare at him in confusion and anger.
"Now, now. Let's not get too crazy, Tenebris," warned VesVes. "We don't need to stick around since the target didn't have Pegasus, so we must retreat for now."
Tenebris then put away his sword. "Very well. As you say."
And before the band of heroes could stop them, the five disappeared.
Needless to say, the guardians couldn't help but be worried.
"So there's a copy of Solaris on the enemy's side now?" said Sailor Mars. "Just when I thought things couldn't get any more stranger."
Solaris stayed silent, still thinking, but remembered Momo and her dream mirror.
Super Sailor Moon did as well. "We can worry about that later," she said to everyone. "Let's hurry and put Momo's Dream Mirror back for now."
Everyone agreed.
Back inside the Dead Moon Circus Tent, the Amazon Quartet were all getting massages from the parlor by shadows wearing lab coats. Tenebris stood off the side, keeping vigil.
"Haahh~. This is heaven," sighed JunJun in contentment.
"I'll say," agreed CereCere.
"Hey, Tenebris. Why don't you get one?" asked PallaPalla. "There's room for one more."
"I'll have to decline," replied Tenebris. "But I appreciate the offer."
"So, what did you think about the guardians?" asked VesVes. "Annoying, right?"
Tenebris looked up at the ceiling in thought. "I prefer to think of them as interesting," he said. "Most notably, that fellow who had a similar likeness to me. His name was Solaris, correct?"
He took out his sword and stared at the blade, and as his reflection showed on it, a slight gleam of a smile flashed in his eyes.
Meanwhile, inside the hidden space, Zirconia was before Nehelina's mirror again, speaking to her.
"My queen, are you sure it was wise to create Tenebris to fight our enemies?" she asked with concern. "It took a lot of power to create him, and while I made him submit to our cause, there's always a chance that he might rebel against us. I fear he could become quite the threat if we're not careful."
"Leave him be, Zirconia," replied Nehelenia through the mirror. "You need only to keep an eye on him. After all, he was only just created."
"But my queen, I…" Zirconia began to interject.
Nehelenia glared. "Are you questioning my orders?" she asked in an icy demeanor.
"N-No. Never, your majesty," relented Zirconia. "I'll do just as you say."
"That's right," Nehelenia said with a fiendish smile. "You will do as I say without question. After all, I am Nehelenia, the true queen of the Moon, and all will obey and submit to me."
And with that, she turned on her heel and left as her image in the mirror faded into black.
