Another chapter right after I just finished the previous one? Huh. I must be more motivated than I thought. Hey, everypony! And welcome to the next chapter of Bluey and the Humans. This chapter is going to be about Billy and Helen's experience at Bluey and Bingo's elementary school. What's gonna happen? Is it gonna be positive or negative? Let's find out, shall we? Disclaimer: I DO NOT own Bluey. All rights go to its respective owners. I only own my OCs.
Chapter 8: First Day of School
The next morning, Billy, Helen, Bluey, and Bingo were still asleep. That is, until the bedroom door shot open with Bandit yelling at the top of his lungs.
"GOOD MOOOOOORNING, KIDDOS!" He yelled like Robin Williams in Good Morning, Vietnam.
This caused the four kids to bolt up with surprised looks. Billy and Helen especially.
"Today's forecast is going to be sunny with a one hundred percent chance of positivity and happiness. The subjects of today's news story are two kids named Billy and Helen who are going to have the best experience of their lives." Bandit announced.
Helen instantly knew what he was talking about and her face brightened.
"Oh! That's right! It's mine and Billy's first day of school today. The one day Bluey and Bingo said we were going to have a positive experience." She said, happily.
She turned to her brother.
"Right, Billy?"
Billy chuckled, nervously.
"Oh, uh, y-yeah. Of course. Heh heh." He said.
"We hope you're excited for the day, Billy." Said Bingo.
"Oh yeah, I'm excited. To be honest, I'm a little nervous, but I'm still excited nonetheless."
"That's understandable. But still, we guarantee that the day is going to be great!" Bluey said with excitement.
Bandit nodded.
"Exactly! Now let's go downstairs, eat some yummy breakfast, and start the day." He said, happily.
"Way ahead of ya, Bandit." said Billy.
A minute later, Bandit and the kids were walking downstairs to the kitchen. Chilli was fixing plates. Once they all sat down, Billy and Helen saw that the breakfast was sausage and cheese omelettes with green bell peppers in them. Billy and Helen instantly smiled because coincidentally, John would make them the same thing sometimes when the family had breakfast. As they ate, Billy spoke up.
"Thanks, Chilli. I have to say, are these delicious omelettes or what? This is what our dad used to sometimes make us whenever we had breakfast. To be honest, it makes us miss him even more. Not saying we're sad or anything, just stating a fact." He said with gratefulness.
"Well, we're glad you and your sister like them, Billy." Said Chilli.
Just then, she realized that she almost forgot something.
"Oh my goodness! I almost forgot! We have to get you and Helen new clothes for the day. As I recall, Bandit has a few clothes from our childhoods that may fit you two. Some even don't have a hole for tails." She remembered.
Billy and Helen turned to Bandit.
"I had no idea. Do you really have clothes that'll fit us?" Helen asked.
"As a matter of fact, we do, Helen. We do indeed. We've got plenty of them." Said Bandit.
After they ate, the Heelers stood in front of the bedroom door. Chilli had the camera on her phone on. A second later, Billy and Helen walked out. They looked nice. Billy was wearing a solid yellow short sleeved dress shirt with khakis. He wore the same shoes he had on. Helen was wearing a solid red short sleeved dress shirt with blue jeans. She was also wearing the same shoes she had on. The kids looked at each other, smiled, and turned to the Heelers.
"How do you look? Nice?" Bandit asked.
"We look awesome! Thanks, guys." Billy thanked.
"Yeah. We didn't think that the clothes would fit us at first, but they did surprisingly enough." Said Helen.
The Heelers laughed a bit.
"We're just glad you two are happy." Bluey said.
"Smile!" Said Chilli.
The two humans smiled and gave the big thumbs up as Chilli took the picture. A few minutes later, the family and the humans were in the car and on the road to the school. For a moment there was silence. Finally, Bandit spoke.
"Say, Billy. Are you doing well after last night?" He asked with concern.
"Oh, I'm doing quite alright, Bandit. No more nightmares." Said Billy.
Bandit chuckled.
"That's exactly what I want to hear, mate. That is exactly what I want to hear. We can promise you that your first day at school will be absolutely fantastic." He said.
Bluey tapped Helen's shoulder and she turned to her.
"Are you excited, Helen?" She asked.
The girl nodded.
"Of course. If yours and Bingo's experience is as positive as you say it is, then heck yeah, we're excited." She said.
Bingo tapped Billy's shoulder and he turned to her.
"What about you, Billy?" She asked him.
"Well... Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited about our first day. But I'm also kinda scared because I don't know how the other pups would react to us. I mean, no one in this world has probably ever seen a human before. I'm just hoping that we don't get made fun of for being too different. I guess you can say I'm... as a certain cartoon alien would say... scare-cited. That's scared and excited put together." He said.
"Well, like we said, you shouldn't worry about anything. Besides, most of the kids that go to our school are great kids. You might get along with them in no time." Assured Bluey.
Just then, they all pulled up to the school. They were about to be parked when Billy spoke.
"You wanna know something, Bluey? You just might be right. You're right! I'm not gonna let my nervousness get the best of me and keep me from doing good in your school. As of now, I'm going to be the one controlling me. Not my fears." He declared with determination.
"That's the spirit!" Said Chilli.
Finally, the family parked in the school's parking lot. They all got out of the car. As soon as the doors were shut, they began walking up to the entrance. Billy and Helen looked up and saw the sign on the front of the building that read, "Glasshouse Primary School".
"Look out, Glasshouse Primary School. The Burton kids have arrived." Billy said with the same determination.
He was now completely optimistic about the first day. Even Helen felt the same way. Chilli glanced at them.
"Now this, kids, is where your first day begins. We just have to get the both of you enrolled and you'll be pretty much set." She told them.
After they got inside the building, they walked to the principal's office. When they got there, they met the principal who was a male chocolate labrador.
"Hello, Principal Labberson." Bandit greeted.
"Oh, good morning, Mr. Heeler. How's it going?" Asked the principal.
"It's going well. Thanks for asking. Just trying to get the two kids, Billy and Helen Burton enrolled." Replied Bandit.
"Who are Billy and Helen Burton?"
Bandit gestured to Billy and Helen.
"Them."
When Principal Labberson got a good look at the two kids, he was surprised when he saw them. More specifically, because of how they looked. He turned back to Bandit.
"I have to be honest, Mr. Heeler, I haven't seen any kids like them before. What exactly are they?" He asked, curiously.
"They're called humans." Chilli said, "They come from an alternate Earth and somehow got here yesterday. We found them in the park and took them in because they were homeless ever since they lost their parents. They have also been through a lot of trauma. And by trauma, I mean they were abused by their mother."
The principal was shocked when he heard this. Chilli then told the principal about what kind of abuse the two children went through and how they ended up in Dogtopia. At first, the principal didn't know what to believe. But just to be sure Chilli was telling the truth, he turned to the Burton siblings.
"Is what she's saying true?" He asked them.
They both nodded.
"It's true, sir. That's how we ended up here in the first place. It may sound unbelievable, but it's the truth. The whole truth and nothing but the truth." Billy told him, honestly.
The principal put a paw on his chin and looked at the kids again.
"I have to say, Billy." He began, "In all my years of being a principal at this school, I never would have thought that humans existed or if they, let alone two young ones would somehow end up here and also have been through so many hardships. Especially, at your age. I am very very sorry that you and your little sister went through all of that turmoil. I will be more than happy to enroll you two."
The Burton children's faces brightened. After the enrollment forms were signed, and after she gave the kids a hug, Chilli and her husband said goodbye. The four kids and the principal said goodbye to them too. Mr. Labberson then turned to the kids.
"Okay, Billy and Helen Burton, It's time to take you to your classroom. You will be with Mrs. Thomas' class. She is always nice to new students on their first day." He told them.
"Does she have a low tolerance for bullies?" Helen asked, curiously.
The principal nodded.
"She most certainly does. Just out of curiosity, did you two have a teacher that was that way?" He asked.
"Boy, did we." Billy said, "Her name was Mrs. Kingston. She was a really nice lady who never tolerated bullies. She did the works to a few kids who beat me up and burned me with a lighter."
He pointed to the burn on his face which the principal was shocked to see. Billy then glanced at Helen.
"Of course, if it wasn't for my sister and teacher's help, I probably would've ended up in the hospital. Or worse."
"Exactly." Added Helen.
"I see. While I will admit, bullying does happen here sometimes, it rarely even happens because most if not all of the children who go here are good kids. And yes, you may get a few strange looks. But I have a feeling that the students here will adjust to you well. Dog or not, we will make you two feel welcome at our school." The principal said, kindly.
Billy and Helen smiled. Principal Labberson turned and started walking, but not before glancing at the siblings.
"Follow me." He instructed.
The boy and the girl did so and began to follow the principal to their new classroom. Bluey and Bingo were following as well. On the way there, they were wondering what Mrs. Thomas was like. They were also wondering what the kids in her class would be like. A few minutes later, the five of them got to a classroom where they saw a cocker spaniel teaching a class of puppies of all breeds. The principal cleared his throat and they all turned to him. He then walked into the classroom with Billy and Helen following.
Once they entered, the teacher and her students looked at Billy and Helen completely awestruck and curious about them. What are these two strange looking new creatures? They thought. After a second of silence, the principal spoke up.
"Good morning, Mrs. Thomas and students, Myself as well as Bluey and Bingo Heeler have an important announcement to make. We want to welcome two new students who will be attending this school." He said.
Bluey spoke up next.
"Sure, they may not be dogs, but they are kind and unique. They are kids that have been through loads of trials and tribulations just to survive their trauma. They are kids from another world that is just like this world, but it is entirely different. Our Mum and Dad took them in and we think they deserve a happy and prosperous life." She told the class.
The next to speak up was Bingo.
"Their names are Billy and Helen Burton. They are part of a species called humans which our species had thought to be a myth for quite some time. Until now."
The two pups and principal looked at Billy and Helen.
"Would you to like to introduce yourselves to the class?" The principal asked.
Billy was a little nervous and didn't know what to say until Helen nudged him. He turned to see that his little sister had a confident look on her face.
"You can do it, Billy." She said, showing that she believed in him.
The boy then glanced at Bluey and Bingo who both nodded while giving him a thumbs up. He nodded and turned to the class.
"H-Hey everybody." He began, "My name is Billy Burton and this is my little sister, Helen. We're both human beings from a world called Earth. We're from a state called Texas and we were victims of verbal, physical, and emotional abuse. It came from our evil, EVIL mom. She liked picking on me the most because of the fact that I have autism. My sister was one of the people who defended me from both our mom and the bullies at our old school."
He then began to tell the class about how their father planned to divorce their mother and gain custody of them only to get in a fight with her and get shot to death. Next, he told them about how Sharon tried to kill him by choking him to death and how Helen saved him. He then explained about how they ran away from home and ended up in the pawn shop, found the TV, and got transported to Dogtopia. Finally, he told them about how they were found by the Heelers and how they had been taking care of them ever since. Mrs. Thomas and her class were even more surprised, but also started to feel sorry for the two kids.
"Is all of this true?" Mrs. Thomas asked.
The siblings nodded.
"Believe us, Mrs. Thomas, it is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. It's real like the rain the falls down from the stormy sky." Stated Helen.
When all was said and done, the principal, Bluey, and Bingo wished the Burtons good luck and left the classroom. Mrs. Thomas walked to Billy and Helen. She introduced herself and said they could take their seats at some vacant desks in the middle row. After Billy and Helen took their seats, Mrs. Thomas began telling the class what they would be doing today.
"Alright, Class." She began, "Since we've already been introduced to our two new students, Billy and Helen, I want you all to make them feel welcome here. The assignments we're going to do today are these three things; first, we are going to do a short math quiz. Next, we will do a spelling test. And finally, we will do a drawing activity and also tell the class what said drawing represents in your life."
Some of the kids were excited while others were disgusted. Mostly about the math quiz. Once the papers were handed out, everyone got to work. Including Billy who had done his fair share of math assignments at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. Helen was working her hardest as well. The papers were handed in and Mrs. Thomas complimented on Billy for not just getting the answers right, but for showing his work as well. Helen also did a great job on hers. Mostly everyone did well too. Same thing happened with the spelling test, which Helen and Billy were also complimented on.
Finally, the drawing assignment came. It was half an hour when everyone finished their drawings. As soon as the other children presented their drawings and talked about them, it was Billy and Helen's turn. Helen went first. She held up her drawing. It was a drawing of Nala from The Lion King. She said that she represents her strong will and determination to protect her brother and everyone she loved. She also said she represented her loyalty to her family.
It was Billy's turn next. He walked up to the front of the classroom and held up his drawing. He said that the people he drew represented his motivation to never quit or give up hope for any reason. Because even though him and Helen had faced a lot of trials and tribulations, bullying included, he knew he couldn't give up despite his mother, and the bullies telling him to. And even though times were bleak, he held onto hope every step of the way knowing that something good would happen to him and Helen one day. And the people he drew were none other than The Heeler Family themselves.
It was a few hours when the school day ended. Billy and Helen were chatting about this and that as they were walking down the hallway to the entrance. Then out of the corner of his eye, Billy saw something on the wall. He stopped and tapped his sister's shoulder.
"Helen, wait. Look at this." He said.
"What is it?" Asked Helen.
They walked towards the wall. When they got close enough, they saw it was a promotional poster for the school basketball game. The Glasshouse Griffons vs. The Willow Tree Wolves. Billy could also see that the name lines on the poster were all signed. All but one. Helen noticed that too.
"Would you look at that." Billy said, "It looks like most of the kids signed up for the game. Better yet, it's the name list for our team; The Glasshouse Griffons."
"But there's one line that's not signed yet." Said Helen.
Suddenly, Helen's face brightened and she turned to her brother.
"Hey, big brother. I got an idea. I just thought since you're really good at basketball, maybe you could sign up." She suggested.
"I don't know, sis. Do you think the team will like me? I mean, what if they don't except me because I'm a human." Asked Billy.
"Don't think about that, Billy. Having self doubt or doubt in general will get you nowhere. Now I'm not gonna lie, you may get some strange looks from the other teammates. But once they see how good you can be and if you be yourself, everything will work out in the end. If we can handle what we've been through, we can do anything! You too." Helen told him.
Billy smiled and nodded. He then got out a pencil and signed his name on the line. Him and sister then high fived each other. Just then, they heard laughter. They turned to see a red dingo pup who was wearing a Willow Tree Wolves shirt. He was also a little taller than the two kids.
"A human kid? Playing in a basketball game made for pups? Now I've seen everything." He said with a condescending tone.
"And you are?" Billy asked.
The pup walked towards them wearing a smug, cocky expression.
"The name's Benjamin. Benjamin Dingo. And if you know what's good for you, you'll do well to show me respect. Anywho, I couldn't help but notice that you of all people signed up for the game. And someone who isn't a dog no less. Just so you know, my team has never lost a game in a very long time. And by a very long time, I mean never. So, if I were you, human, I would back out now because you're probably not up for it." He said, smugly.
Helen raised an eyebrow.
"Just how do you manage to win all the time, huh?" She asked, suspiciously.
Benjamin wagged his finger.
"Nah ah ah. A true player NEVER reveals their secrets." He told her.
Helen was itching to punch Benjamin's lights out, but Billy gave her a look telling her to calm down. He then looked at the arrogant kid standing before them. He thought carefully about what to say, then spoke.
"Well... I may not be a dog nor am I taller than you. However, not bragging when I say this, but I am a pretty skilled player when it comes to basketball. I'm sure that I'll be able to help my team win. Even if they don't except me right away, I'm going to help them no matter what. Because that's what good sportsmanship is all about." He said, with firmness and determination.
Benjamin was speechless for a few seconds. Then he laughed.
"Don't make me laugh. I just happen to be the team's star player. And a great one at that. But if you think you can help your team win against mine, then I say, go for it. But it's your funeral." He smirked.
Before Billy knew it, Benjamin walked up to him and got face to face with him. He held out his paw.
"What do you say, freak of nature? Are you dog enough?" He asked.
The boy was starting to feel a little nervous. But then he looked to his sister who nodded. He turned back to the bully with a determined smile. He shook his paw.
"It is on like Donkey Kong." He said.
After that, the dingo chuckled evilly and walked off. Billy and Helen started walking again.
"Billy... I don't mean to sound negative... but you know trying to beat a really tough basketball team with a tough and tall star player will be one heck of a challenge, right?" Helen asked.
"Maybe so, Helen." Billy said, "But it's not really about me. It's about helping my future team when they've probably lost who knows how many games to Benjamin's team. Plus, it's kinda amazing how his team never lost a single game once. I also don't like how he looks down on others and thinks he's the cream of the crop. We never deserved to be looked down upon, and neither does anyone else. Let alone anyone in this school. Just like you stand up for me, I'm gonna stand up for my friends and team. Dad would want us to stick up for others just as he stuck up for us. And to honor his memory... I'm gonna help my team every step of the way. Whether we win or lose, we'll still be a great team! If we do our best, that's all that matters."
Helen put a hand on her brother's shoulder.
"Spoken like a true sportsman." She said.
Author's Note: Finally! I got this chapter done! I can't believe it took me a month to finish it. But nevertheless, I got it done. Sorry for being gone for a month. I hope y'all don't hold it against me. I've just had really bad burnout for a while. Also, sorry if this chapter is kind of cringe and crappy. I like how Billy is determined not just to not let his nerves get the best of him, but he's also determined to help others.
Also, what do you think of the character, Benjamin Dingo? In all honesty, he kind of reminds of Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series. Anyway. I hope y'all liked this chapter. Please be sure to read, review, favorite, follow, and share share share. Feedback is welcome. Oh! And also, keep watch for the next chapter. Until next time, see ya later, my fellow bronies and pegasisters!
