Jere's POV
By the time my face hit the pillow I was out, I just needed four hours of sleep before getting on the road back to work. My slumber disturbed not by my alarm, but a body climbing into the queen size bed beside me.
The room was pitch dark, so I had no idea who it was but I know that it wasn't one of the children.
Then I heard a sigh and realized quickly who it was. "B-Belly, is that you?"
She shot up and shouted, "WHAT THE HELL!"
I jumped out of the frilly pink bed. She was still in her clothes from the party. "I just came to sleep in my room!"
Belly looked around, she looked like she was trying to think of what to say. "Right, I drank too much and went into... the wrong room."
I nodded. "It happens."
She walked to the door, "Sorry."
"No biggie," I say with a wave as she leaves. "Goodnight."
A few hours later I was showered, wearing my same clothes and ready to split. Taylor was the only person awake, sitting on the steps with a hot cup of coffee in her hands. "Leaving so soon?"
I sat down beside her for a moment, "I've got some stuff to take care of at work today."
Taylor nodded. "Fancy Jeremiah, with his fancy job and fancy Porsche." She grinned at wildly.
"That's me." I gestured toward the house, "What's up with the dream team?"
Taylor took a sip, her expression changed from jokey to secretive. "Nothing."
"Come on now Tay," I nudge her softly. "I know you know everything."
She sighed, "No one's life is perfect, Jeremy."
I nod. I do not expect for Taylor to give up much more than that.
"We'll be here all summer you know," She pursed her lips. "If maybe you'd like to come back and stay."
"I don't think anyone wants that."
"I do," She punched my arm. "I'm sure everyone would like that."
"Maybe this weekend I can, I'll see.." I say before standing up. "It's time to go."
With a wave I'm off again, trying this time to get in my car before getting caught up into another conversation.
Not everyone's life is perfect.. Sure, but it's more than that. I know a miserable Belly when I see one and that woman in that house is miserable. I just don't know why.. yet.
"You're coffee is on your desk and the Jetterson paperwork beside it," My secretary Kaylie informs me. She's been working for me about six months and she does a very good job at her... well her job.
Kaylie tucks a stand of blonde hair behind her ear, "How was the birthday?"
"Good. It went good."
She nods, giving me a strange look. "You're wearing the same clothes from yesterday."
"It was a wild party."
She smiles, "For a toddler?"
I nod. "Yup."
Her green eyes roll, "Okay boss man."
Kaylie is standardly beautifully. Blonde, green eyes, slim and nice lips. Not that she's ever showed any interest in me, but I have eyes. I can see she's gorgeous. I haven't truly cared for another human in years. I've had flings, I've had summer girlfriends but I have not loved another person since the day I left Belly standing in a white dress.
I was finishing up some documents when my phone pinged. I was surprised to see a text from Conrad.
Conrad: Hey, it was great having you yesterday.
Me: Thanks, I love seeing you and the kids.
I meant that. I love seeing them, it's always nice to know I have family.
Conrad: Maybe you can come back before summer is over, spend some more time with us?
Me: I'd love to man, I just have to see. Work has been hectic.
Now I didn't meant that. I don't see myself going back to the summer house at all. I've been replying Belly climbing into bed with me all morning. I know it was an accident, but man it could have gone much worse if she was really drunk. If she had thought I was Conrad.
Conrad: The girls would love to have you Jere.
I didn't reply right away. What am I going to say? Sounds good, sorry your wife got in my bed last night so it's awkward now and I really don't want to come back. The worst part? I wanted to go back, I wanted to jump in my car after work and go back to the house. I loved people around all those people, even if sometimes it hurt.
Me: I'll see you this weekend.
If you like this please leave a reviw!
