The assault boats beached on the far side of the island that housed the Raft maximum security prison. The imposing complex blocked most of the light from the city. The landing site was far enough away from the actual docks that they were able to approach without notice. Two dozen armed Santa Priscan mercenaries disembarked. Their leader, the masked juggernaut Bane, began giving orders to them in accented Spanish. As soon as the perimeter of their landing was confirmed undetected, he signaled for the final two passengers to step off the boat. The first was a man clad in green armor with a purple cape and a dome helmet obscuring his face.
"Tell your men to prepare for the assault and to secure the perimeter, we can't afford any unnecessary attention. They've no need to stay with the boats, I will make sure they are not discovered" instructed Mysterio. He then turned around and used his powers to make it appear as though the boats were merely rocks.
But, Bane, ignored his assurance and ordered a pair of mercs to take a position just over the ridge near the boats, and report if anyone approaches the island. He explained to Mysterio, "if you prepare for the worst, it cannot catch you off guard."
"Agreed, but remember, we are doing this now because the worst won't happen, the cops, the Spiders, and the Bats are all going after Tinkerer and that tin snowman. So now all we've got to do is get in, arrange a couple of early paroles, and then get out," Mysterio replied.
Bane stood over a foot taller than the bubble-headed Mysterio, and he resented being treated like a common thug. He sneered at the other villain, and then saw his fists clench.
"Boys are you quite finished with your flexing competition?" a voice called. They turned to see a red-headed woman in a black and green catsuit emerge through the hologram. Poison Ivy looked at the two of them like a disappointed parent. She sighed, "honestly, it's like you're both middle schoolers."
Mysterio was about to snap back at her, but Bane spoke first, returning the focus to the task at hand. He offered Poison Ivy the chance to take the lead, "after you senorita."
She brushed past them and to the wall of the prison. A small ventilation duct was protruding about two feet from the ground. Ivy bent over, beckoned a flower from the ground and its pollen began to feed into the vent. "A Wakandan jasmine flower, in a cup of tea it is effective for a good night's sleep. But with this much concentrated pollen, the guards will be asleep for ten hours minimum." She explained with a grin. A nonlethal approach had been agreed upon, because the opposite would likely triple the heat that they anticipated was going to be on them after this jailbreak.
They got to within 10 yards of the Raft, where one of the maintenance entrances was located. "Alright, pay attention," Mysterio cautioned, "when the lights go out you'll only have seconds with the security disabled." Bane got as close as he could to a door while staying out of the path of the search light. He took a deep breath and administered a small amount of his venom. The lights were off for only a brief moment but when they did, he ripped the steel door off its hinges. They entered the prison control office, and Mysterio accessed a panel to delay the alarms from activating. "15 minutes, before those sirens start blaring, let's get busy!" The trio moved hastily down the maximum-security wing. The cells were each designed to hold a specific metahuman criminal. They stopped in front of a cell with a door lined with rubber. Poison Ivy swiped the card they lifted from the control office. The door slid open revealing a convict held in an insulated rubber suit. A metal spoon had been driven into the wall of his cell and the brick surrounding it was scorched. Ivy and Bane now understood how they had been able to time the power surge.
"Mr. Max Dillon, your early release has arrived" she said.
He rose from where he was sitting on his bed, they could hear the crackling of electricity, but his restraints effectively restricted his powers. "Bout, dang time," he said gruffly.
"Hey, show some appreciation, Electro," Mysterio replied coolly. "Or do we have our pumped-up friend here shove you back inside, then go looking for Shocker's cell instead?" Electro was angry for a moment, but decided he could play ball. He crossed his arms and refrained from further response. "That's one down and one to go" he said, turning to Ivy.
"Doctor Octavius' cell requires all four of us to open properly, the four hydraulic locks for his arms are designed to only be releasable when activated simultaneously and they're on opposite walls." she explained.
"He's in the hexagon cell," Electro replied as Mysterio released the restraints on his wrists and removed his gloves that were already partially burnt off.
"Well let's get moving," Mysterio replied, then turned to Bane who was standing to the side. "Hey, you paying attention, big guy?"
Bane had been on the comms getting updates from his men. First, he confirmed they had secured the armory and were watching the guards in their barracks, on the off chance any of them had come to follow their pollen induced incapacitation. "Sentries report in" he radioed to the men watching the shore where they had beached. He got a muffled panicked response but then nothing. "Unit amarillo do you copy?" he repeated. There was no response after three attempts, all they heard was static.
