"OH YEAH!? AND WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT CHUMP?!" Surge said with her chest. She just about had it for today. She was already in a bad mood from earlier this morning from Sonic, but now this? All she wanted was to work out in peace.

"I SAID THIS IS MY STATION! GET OFF AND FIND ANOTHER ONE!" The aggressor in question was a male Grey Echidna who didn't seem happy with Surge.

"I WAS HERE FIRST! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?" Surge snapped back.

"SENIORITY RULES DIPSHIT! DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU WERE HERE FIRST! GET OFF THE BENCHPRESS!"

Earlier that day, Surge was familiarizing herself with the Resistance base as planned at the beginning of the day. While doing so, she came across the Combat and Training wing on the East side of the base. "I'll come back here later," Surge said to herself. She continued her self-tour of the base. Granted, Sonic had already given her a tour before settling in, but she wasn't paying attention. She completed a brief loop around the base and was focused on heading to the Combat and Training wing. At this point of the day, the Sun was setting.

The building was massive in length, width, and height. Surge could tell that the Resistance's budget poured a significant amount of its resources into this facility, and she couldn't blame them; they were at war with Eggman, after all. The building was a simple shape of a box, almost like a corporation's warehouse. The walls were made of concrete with lamps horizontally lined up a couple of feet off the ground. Above the entrance were three prominent symbols, one being a dumbbell, A closed fist wrapped in sports tape, and a handgun. "Sounds like my kind of place!" Surge said excitedly as she approached the facility. Surge was right before the double-door entrance and decided to look at the building one last time. She looked up and saw the building appear to be endlessly high. The same applied to the width of the building when she looked left to right. "*whistles* This place is massive!" Surge said as she entered the building and into the lobby.

The lobby was active with Resistance members who were going about their day. The lobby had a warm and welcoming feel compared to the outside of the building. The floor was made of laminated wood, and the walls were navy blue. Surge looked up and saw hanging ceiling lamps with a fan attached to them. Surge looked forward and saw the far end wall didn't extend all the way to it's adjacent left and right wall in that you could walk around on its left and right sides, creating two paths into the depths of the facility. Towards the center of the wall, Surge saw the service desk.

As Surge approached the service desk, she could faintly hear music playing in the lobby under the sea of chatter from all the Resistance members.

"Hi! Welcome to the C.A.T wing! How may I help you?" a female burgundy cat receptionist in formal attire greeted Surge.

"Yea, I'm just trying to hit the gym right now. Which way do I go for that?" Surge asked.

"Oh! You're new here? would you like me to give you a tour of the place?"

"Eh, maybe some other time. Right now, I just want to work out."

"Of course! Just take the left path."

"Thanks."

"Before you go, you must sign in first."

"Crap. Knew it wouldn't be that easy."

"It's no hassle, I just need to scan your Scroll and you'll be on your way!"

"Well in that case." Surge raised her left arm and showed her Scroll. The receptionist pulled out a small rectangular glass from under the desk. The receptionist tapped the glass, which turned it on and showed a screen that Surge couldn't make out. The receptionist faced the glass over Surge's Scroll, which caused it to double beep.

"You're all set! Have a good workout, Surge!" The receptionist waved to Surge. Surge began making her way to the left path. She felt uneasy that the receptionist figured out her name through her Scroll but figured it was her just trying to be friendly because of her job.

Surge walked through the left path and couldn't believe her eyes. What she saw was probably the biggest gym that would ever be built. There were machines and workout stations as far as the eye could see. The music was much more audible now that the Resistance members were more focused on working out than talking amongst each other. The laminated floor was replaced with rubber flooring. Surge looked to her right and the wall that possibly split the building in two. The training side she was on, and the combat side. There were locker rooms throughout the wall with several meters between them. The classic mirror with dumbbell rack and benches combo was on the opposite wall.

Surge made her way towards the dumbbell rack and benches. It had just dawned upon her that the last time she did a workout was before Starline's death. "It would probably be best not to push myself too hard today. Don't want to pull a muscle or anything." Surge said to herself. Surge arrived and looked for an open bench to use. Surge noticed this may be harder than she thought, as it looked like all the benches were taken. She kept walking down and understood why the building was so big. This gym was built for every member on the base. After about a minute, she finally found an unused bench.

Surge took a pair of thirty-five-pound dumbbells and sat on the bench. She rested the dumbbells on her thighs, which she kicked up as she laid back on the bench and began doing her bench presses. She completed her first ten reps and set her dumbbells down to rest. As she was resting, she thought about Sonic. She began drawing up ideas for getting Sonic to show her his workout routine and combat skills. It shouldn't be hard since Sonic would do it if she asked.

"Hey! I'm talking to you!" Surge heard as she felt something nudge her head. A male grey Echidna was standing over her with a smirk on his face. The Echidna wore a Black tang top, Green athletic shorts, and slides.

"Huh? What do you want?" Surge responded.

"I said, that you're on my bench! Get off!"

"Your bench? I didn't see you touch this bench for minutes! How can this your bench dude?"

The Grey Echidna got closer to Surge's face. "Who cares? Get off or I'll make you get off." Echidna said through his teeth.

Surge stood up from her bench, faced the Echidna, and stared him straight in the eyes. She was still shorter than the Echidna, but her message was clear. She's no pushover.

"OH YEAH!? AND WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT CHUMP?!"

"I SAID THIS IS MY STATION! GET OFF AND FIND ANOTHER ONE!"

"LIKE I SAID, I WAS HERE FIRST! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?"

"SENIORITY RULES DIPSHIT! DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU WERE HERE FIRST! GET OFF THE BENCHPRESS!"

"I'm hearing a whole lot of talking but I'm not seeing you do jack SHIT! If you're going to make me move, like you said you were going to do, then do it tough guy!" Surge yelled.

The surrounding Resistance members all stopped what they were doing to watch the commotion. The Grey Echidna continued to stare into Surge's eyes. They stared for about ten seconds until Surge whispered, "Go ahead, make a move bitch."

With that, the grey Echidna went for a right hook at Surge. The attack was heavily telegraphed, and Surge ducked it quickly. The fight was on. Surge used her movement to start an uppercut from her ducked position. The hit connected and sent the Echidna a foot back.

"AAUUUGHHH! YOU'RE DEAD, YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD!"

The Grey Echidna recovered from the punch and came towards Surge again; this time, he threw two hooks towards her body and finished with an overhand punch. Surge wasn't used to attacking without her abilities and was surprised when the Echidna recovered quickly and attacked. Surge took each hit as it connected and hit the floor after stumbling back. Surge recovered and stood back up. Whether those hits hurt, she couldn't tell as adrenaline was pulsing through her body.

Surge was about to attack when suddenly-

"HEY! BREAK IT UP YOU TWO!" The facility security guards rushed in and separated them. "Hey! I didn't do anything wrong!" Surge argued as a yellow hawk security guard held Surge by the right arm. Two other guards held the Echidna in both of his arms. Once Surge and the Echidna were restrained, the security guards escorted them out of the facility. Surge was embarrassed as members looked on as she was escorted out of the lobby. The yellow hawk security guard walked Surge a couple feet from the facility's entrance.

"Ok, tell me what happened." asked the security guard.

"I was just doing my work out on the bench when that Joker over there told me to leave! I told him that no one was using the bench for a while and that there's no way he was using it before I did. Then he said there were "seniority rules" and that he would make me leave if I didn't leave. I called him out on his fighting words, and he threw the first punch."

"Ok, my partners are going to get a statement from him and the members in the gym to see what's going on. What's your name by the way."

"Surge"

"Do you use that name as your nickname for your account on your Scroll?"

"Yea, why?"

"Ok"

The Security guard used his radio to call in Surge's name through their dispatch. "6-7, She's all set," dispatch responded from the radio mic.

"Copy. Ok, I'm going to let you go. Don't run, ok?"

"Sure, whatever."

The Security guard released his grip on Surge. They stood there for several minutes. Surge can see the Echidna from a distance and notice the security guards haven't let him go.

A red Security guard with sergeant's rank on his shoulders exited the facility and walked over to Surge and the yellow hawk Security guard.

"Yea, looked like she was just minding her own business and then the grey Echidna over there provoked her and used some "seniority rule" bullshit and they got into a tussle after that."

"Ok. Would you like to press charges Ma'am?" the security guard asked Surge.

"No, I don't want this crap to last any longer than it has."

"Amen to that. Ok, she's free to go. I'll ask the employees if they would like to trespass the other one."

"You got it Sarge! Ok, you're good to go Ms. Surge."

"Finally! I'm outta here." Surge walked away from the whole scene and headed to her Dorm."

Surge was in deep thought about what happened today and how unproductive it was. The only meaningful thing she did was trying to map out the base by walking around, but she could do any day she liked. It would've probably been better if she had done it with Kit, Surge thought to herself. She also tried to start her workout routine and get her body back to being combat-ready. Unfortunately, she was only able to get one set in bench pressing.

The day is over, and it's time to prepare for the next.

"Jeez, today sucked! Hope Kit had it better than I did. Speaking of Kit," Surge opened her Scroll and began calling Kit. The Scroll rang for a bit until it was answered.

"Hello? Surge?" Kit said on the other end of the line.

"Hey Kit, where are you right now? Are you still at the workshop in the Research and whatever place?" Surge asked.

"No, I'm back at our Dorm room. I actually got here about an hour ago."

"Sweet. That means I can just head straight home."

"You ok, Surge? You sound exhausted."

"I'll tell you all about it before bed. I'm heading home right now."

"Ok, see you when you get here." Kit ended the call.

"Dorm A-1, here it is." Surge reached for the front door handle and pulled. The door didn't budge. "What the Hell?" Surge pulled again, and still no dice. "Great! Now I'm locked out! Perfect!" Surge said.

"You have to put your Scroll in front of the I.D reader." A walker-by commented.

Surge looked at the door and noticed a black box with a thin red rectangle on top above the door handle. Surge held her Scroll before the black box, and the thin red rectangle turned green. Surge attempted to pull the front door with success. "Thank goodness, I was about to lose it."

Surge walked into the common room with members in it, but Surge couldn't care less and continued walking to her dorm room. She opened the door and saw Kit reading a book on the bed. "Surge!" Kit was about to jump off the bed and hug her before Surge held her hand up for him to stop. "I'm going to take a shower." Surge said as he grabbed some clothes from the closet and began showering. Kit continued to read his book. After some time, Surge emerged from the steamy bathroom with fresh new clothes that were no different from those she wore today. "Tomorrow, we have to do something about these clothes." Surge said as she plopped on her side of the bed.

"Sure. How'd your day go?" Kit responded.

Surge wanted to share what happened but knew Kit would lecture her again about behaving herself. Typically, she wouldn't care about it, but right now, she is too tired to be lectured about anything. "I'll tell you tomorrow morning. Right now, I need to make some dinner."

"I already made dinner for tonight. It's in the fridge but you'll need to go to the kitchen to warm it up in the microwave." Kit said.

"What'd you make?"

"Beans and rice, grilled chicken, and mixed steam vegetables. Nothing crazy"

Surge opened the fridge and saw a white plate covered by another white plate on top. Surge took the plates by the bottom plate out of the fridge. Surge removed the top plate and was greeted with a full, cold dinner. Surge made her way to the kitchen with her dinner. She walked into the common room and ignored whoever was in the room, if there were any, and entered the kitchen. She opened the microwave above the stove and placed her dinner in it.

"At least I know how to microwave food." Surge said under her breath as she set the timer for two minutes. The microwave started to hum, and Surge just stared ahead of her at the wall and zoned out.

"Surge, you alright?"

"Damn it" Surge knew just who it was. "What is it?" Surge said to Sonic.

"I called your name when you walked in, but you just kept walking. Same thing when you walked into the kitchen. Is everything ok?

"Yes, I'm fine." Surge said, now annoyed.

"Are you sure? I mea-"

"Look, I'm just tired ok! Do you need something from me or what!?" Surge snapped.

"I was just going to ask if you and Kit wanted to chill and watch movies with me and Tails."

"It's Tails and I" Tails commented from the couch in the common room.

"Yea, whatever. So, how about it? You wanna join us?" Sonic said. The microwave beeped, indicating that the food was ready.

Surge took the plate out and grabbed a fork from the utensil cabinet. "No thanks, I'm done for today."

"Ok. Also, remember to check your emails. Obviously, now is probably not the best time but, be sure to check tomorrow morning."

"Sure, whatever. Anything else?" Surge responded.

"Nope, have a goodnight, Surge. Looks like you need one," Sonic laughed during his second comment.

"You have no idea." Surge said under her breath. Sonic walked back to the couch to join Tails. Surge walked back to her dorm room while eating her dinner. Surge entered her Dorm and sat on the floor in the middle of the room to eat. Kit was still reading his book on the side of the bed. "Watcha reading over there?" Surge asked with her mood improving now that her stomach is being satisfied.

"Just things about engineering. Not going to bore you with the details." Kit responded.

"Good choice. Not trying to sleep just yet." Surge managed to say with her mouth full of food. Kit rolled his eyes as Surge continued to chow down. Kit struggled to read as Surge savagely ate her food with her mouth open. "Could you please eat with your mouth closed?"

"What? how do you do that?" Surge asked. Kit just shook his head and placed his book on the shelf. "Never mind". Kit laid down above the covers on the bed and waited for Surge to finish dinner. Surge practically was inhaling her food and finished it in record time. "That hit the spot." Surge placed the plate above the fridge.

"Aren't you going to put that in the sink, in the kitchen?" Kit asked.

"Not going to risk talking with Sonic again. F that." Surge declared. Surge walked into the bathroom to brush her teeth and returned to the living room. She got under the covers on her side of the bed. Kit turned off the lights and did the same on his side. Both infiltrators drifted into sleep.
