After a hour Paige called time , much to Ralph's disappointment , but he knew better than argue . He printed off the last piece of information , then shut down his lap top.
" Did you find anymore than your mom ? "
Ralph looked at Walter under hooded eyelids as if to say , What do you think .
Walter smiled at him , ruffled his hair . " Ok, show us then . "
Ralph with a big smile on his face , walked across to the printer and removed the pages he had printed , then handed them to Walter . Walter checked them with great care . " These are very detailed accounts records . Let me ring Cabe to see just how much information Katherine requires . "
Paige ruffled Ralph's hair . " Well done . "
Walter got Cabe on the phone and told him what information they had found and asked him just how deep Katherine wanted them to go . Cabe suggested he should come over and pick up what they had found , then show it to Katherine the next morning and she could decide for herself . Paige immediately went to put on a fresh pot of coffee for when he arrives .
Cabe arrived twenty minutes later , after going through the information , he looked at the three people in front of him . " You three amaze me time and time again . From what I can see here is at least ten times the amount of information you have collected in a few hours , compared to what Katherine's team have gathered in over twenty four hours .
" Thank you Cabe , that's most appreciated . " Paige told him a big smile on her face .
Next morning once they had dropped Ralph off at school , they made their way back to the condo and sat on the sofa , mainly talking about the new headquarters , already decided that the most important thing , the shower . As the fridge , freezer and the kitchen table and chairs were the last things put in the storage unit , it would make more sense to move those first , with whatever else they could fit in the van .
They had only been home for thirty minutes , when Walter's phone rang the I,D. showed Cabe .He showed it to Paige who snuggled up closer to Walter . " Put your phone on speaker . "
" Good morning Cabe , my phone is on speaker and Paige is with me .
" Good Morning sweetheart . Could you both come up to Homeland and speak to Katherine ? "
Paige was quick to answer . " Of course we can , but if we are going to be long , one of us will need to leave to pick Ralph up from school . "
" I know , if necessary I can pick him up for you . You know he loves to be picked up by the big black SUV . " Cabe told her .
" Ok Cabe , it should take us about thirty minutes to get there , see you there . " With that Walter disconnected the call .
Thirty minutes later , Walter and Paige were standing in the entrance of Homeland awaiting an escort to take them to Katherine's office . Five minutes later an agent came down and escorted them , when they reached the office , the agent knocked on her office door and led the two of them in . They were surprised to see Cabe sitting on the sofa .
" Morning Paige Walter , please take a seat . The information especially the financial details , provided for that subsidiary was brilliant . "
A big smile broke out on both Walter and Paige's face . Paige explained . " Once Ralph had done his homework he came back into the living room and saw the pile of papers and wanted to know what it was . I explained what we had been doing and he wanted to help , at first I said no but he gave me the puppy dog eyes so I let him work for one hour . He was the one who came up with those financial details . "
Katherine's jaw dropped . " He found all that out in less than a hour ? "
A proud Paige just nodded .
" Well I must say the information you have found is much better that my people have found , could you maybe do a little more digging . If it would be of any use you can use the computers we have got here .
Paige looked across at Walter who gave a slight nod . " Ok, show us the way ,but someone will need to fetch Ralph once school finishes and he must do his homework before he his allowed to help . " Paige told her .
Cabe spoke up . " Don't worry I will go and collect him and make sure he does his homework . "
" That's settled then , show us the way . " Paige told Katherine a big smile on her face .
They all followed Katherine out of her office and down various corridors , using the lift on a couple of occasions , they arrived at a windowless room , subdued light , mainly made up of the light coming from the many computer screens , each which were on their own desk , a chair in front of it , some occupied some not . As they walked in they were approached by a man .
" Sorry Miss Cooper , I did not see you there , you know this is a restricted area ? "
" That's alright Mark , this is Walter O'Brian and his partner miss Paige Dineen , they are doing a job for me , which will require the power of our computers . Have you got three computers that are together ? "
Mark stood there for a few seconds then asked . " Why three ? "
" They will joined by their son once he is out of school . " Katherine told him .
" Well just how old is he ? " Mark asked a little confused .
" Thirteen going on thirty . " Paige told him with all the pride in the world in her voice .
Mark who's head still seemed to be spinning . " Follow me . "
The three of them followed Mark . " There are three machines here , all three are of the highest spec. and the best security of any of our computers . If you wait a minute I will go and get the passwords for them . "
Walter sat down at the first computer and his fingers flew across the keys , before Mark had a chance to leave , Walter shouted .
" Don't bother , I am in . " Walter then moved across to the next computer and again in a few seconds . " I am in this one as well . "
Mark's face dropped and he managed to stutter . " How ? "
Katherine smiled . " Welcome to the world of my favourite computer nerd . "
" But what about the third one , that is still blocked ? " Mark asked .
" I am not about to spoil Ralph's fun . " Walter told him with a smile on his face .
Paige's business mind immediately came into play . " Once we have finished this little job maybe you would like SCS to quote you for a complete check up on your systems , you saw how easy Walter broke into your most sophisticated system . I am sure Walter could write up a system that is much more superior . You could if you like copy the system and send it to all the Homeland offices , around the country ."
Mark looked at Katherine , Katherine looked at Paige " Just how much will that cost ? "
Paige looked at Walter who just shrugged .
" That means lets get on with this job first , then we can have a better look . " Paige told her .
" That seems reasonable , I am sure for an average hacker our protection is most likely sufficient , not everyone is a super nerd like Walter and Ralph . I will leave you with Mark , I hope he will be able to give any help you may need . "
Walter was already deep into his work , his fingers flying over the keyboard .
Paige went onto her computer , her fingers only going at a normal speed . It was not long before she had bought up one of the companies up on the screen . She had decided to follow the social media line of enquiry . Both Walter and Ralph although brilliant computer wizards , the social side of it was a totally different world , to quote Walter , a total waste of good computer time . But Paige knew better , what appears to be totally innocent , can with careful scrutiny provide information with other bits of information provide a break in any case .
She concentrated on the first subsidiary , first she checked Facebook , but could find no mention of them on that . Next she checked twitter , this time she had some luck , although not directly from the firms themselves , their name was mentioned between two people talking about the firm . Paige printed the page off , so that Ralph could maybe delve into the communications between the two people . Walter seemed in a world of his own his fingers were almost a blur . Both carried on almost non stop until Paige's phone blipped .
She immediately stopped typing as did Walter . " I had better ring Cabe and remind him , in case he as forgotten . " Paige said .
" I don't think Cabe would forget but to be safe, phone him . " Walter answered .
Paige pulled out her phone and hit contact for Cabe , he answered on the first ring with a simple " I am on my way . "
Forty five minutes later he came into the computer room and went to see Walter and Paige .
" I have put Ralph in one of the soft interview rooms , so he can do his homework . Once he as finished it I will bring him back down to you . At that Cabe left and Walter and Paige carried on working .
Thirty minutes later Ralph arrived , went straight to his mom and hugged her , he then went to Walter and hugged him .
" Ok Buddy ,your computer is next to your mom . "
" Ok, dad . " He walked over to the computer and sat down ,
Mark told him . " Hold on and I will get you the password . "
" Don't bother I am already in . "
Mark's face dropped . " How on earth ? "
" Cleverest in the room . " Walter told him a whole lot of pride in his voice ..
At 5.00pm Walter called time , despite some protest from Ralph .
" Your mom and me have not eaten since breakfast , so once we have been to see Katherine , I suggest we all go to Kovelsky,s for something to eat . "
This pleased Ralph so he was more than happy to print the last of the work off he had found and shut down the computer .
Mark was still spellbound at the speed both Walter and Ralph worked at , he had been in I.T. all his working life and even before , but he had never seen two people with the speed and dexterity they both could work the computer keyboards .
" It as been a pleasure watching the three of you work , although the speed you work at I should really say it as been a honour . I only wish most of my people had only had half the speed you work at and without any communication between each other , you seem to know exactly what is going on . "
Paige with a cute little smile on her face . " With two of the top five I.Q's in the world here , does make a difference . "
Mark's face showed a look of shock . " Well I guess it must . "
The three of them were taken up to Katherine's office by one of the agents who stood outside the computer room door . as they entered Katherine's office . Paige spoke .
" Good evening Katherine , we have some more information for you , but we are more than certain there is a lot more out there . "
" Good evening and thank you Paige , Walter and Ralph for all the work you have done over the past couple of days but it is essential we gather as much information as possible . I am sure you are aware they will hit with every defence attorney , Smith, Armstrong and Wells can find . "
Ralph took his backpack off and removed his tablet , within seconds he bought up the information he required . " They have a total of 40 fully trained attorneys , although they seem to specialize in criminal , civil , contractual , family and divorce . They also have a staff of 59 associates who help out all of the attorneys , there ae 20 fully trained legal secretaries and 30 general secretaries . There is also a miscellaneous staff of nearly 100 , which include filing clerks , receptionists and cleaning staff . They also take on a maximum 20 interns every year , but only about 5% are kept on at the end of their internship . "
" Thank you Ralph , I did not realize they were quite that large . "
" That's alright Ms Cooper , my pleasure . "
Soon after that the little family of three left homeland and their way to Kovelsky's for some food .
Next day was much the same way . By the end of the day they all seemed to have exhausted all leads . The only difference that day was Mark had changed the password on Walter's computer , in fact he had worked out a very complicated password to try and catch Walter out . Walter opened the computer up , and in a few seconds later realized just what Mark had done. Twenty seconds later a big smirk on his face .
" Nice try but I am back in . "
Mark's face just broke into a smile . " That took me over two hours last night to work out , it took you less than twenty seconds to break it . I have not touched the other two "
Walter reached over to Paige's computer and opened it up and broke through the password again .
Cabe had picked up Ralph again and he joined his mom and dad once he had finished his homework . Once Paige had collected all the paperwork , they returned to Katherine's office .
" I trust we have given you enough information to make a case against Bullpit . " Paige asked as she handed the paperwork from today , to Katherine .
A big smile appeared on Katherine's face . " Well after reading what you showed me yesterday , I was prepared to begin action right away ,but the legal department wanted a little more , which is a typical response every time we ask for a legal opinion . Still I am sure if today's information is half as good as yesterday they will have no choice but to agree . "
Paige gave her one of her cute smiles . " S.C.S always try to give their best . "
Katherine smiled back at Paige , as she reached into the top drawer of her desk and pulled out a cheque , which she passed to Paige . Paige accepted it with a smile , then checked the cheque .
" $2000 , but Walter agreed to a one of payment of $500 . "
Katherine's smile grew bigger . " Yes but , I expected Walter to find something in a couple of hours , but the information and time spent by all three of you . Your team deserves a bonus of $1500 . It is not often I hear Mark give any sort of praise to anyone , but for you three he cold not find enough words to show just how honoured he was just to be able to watch you all work .
After a few more minutes the three left Katherine alone and went to Kovelsky's for a meal . Once they had finished their meal , Walter paid and Paige walked across to Mrs. Kovelsky .
" Can you reserve a table for five for tomorrow night and provide us with a cake to celebrate the opening of S.C.S. new premises . "
A big smile on her face , Mrs Kovelsky told her . " It will be my pleasure . "
