Chapter 3: Bull Riding

"Last time on Totally Epic: Life on the Farm the contestants were split into two teams, the Haystacks and the Tractors. They competed in their first challenge, which was collecting eggs from a chicken coop. Which believe me, wasn't as easy as it sounded. The Haystacks ended up losing, due to Phil being so into his rapping and dropping his basket of eggs. And so Phil was the first one to be eliminated. What're the contestants in for next? Find out now on Totally Epic: Life on the Farm." Monica announced.
The following morning, everyone was fast asleep in their beds. Just then they were all jolted awake by sound of a rooster.
"What the?" asked Daniel, as he was jolted awake.
"What was that?" asked Spikke.
"A rooster." Glenn answered simply.
The boys looked over, and saw that Glenn and Quinten were getting out of bed like the sound didn't even bother them.
"Okay those two are weird." said Reese to the camera.
"I used to live on the farm, so I'm no stranger to a rooster crowing." Glenn explained.
In the girls' sleeping quarters, they were annoyed by the sound of the rooster.
"How's a person supposed to get beauty rest around here?" asked Angie.
"Obviously that means it's time to get up." said Sydney.
Angie scowled at her. And so everyone took turns using the bathrooms, and soon enough everyone was dressed and outside. As they headed to the mess hall for breakfast, Courtney was rubbing her eyes, and then caught sight of Quinten who didn't looked fazed by getting up early.
"You're not tired?" she asked him.
"No, I actually have insomnia. So I've literally been up for hours." Quinten explained.
"Wow. Does that bother you?"
"Not really. I'm used to it."
In the mess hall, the teams were served pancakes. As they ate, Monica, Hailey, and Charlotte walked in.
"Good morning contestants. Glad to see you're all bright eyed and bushy tailed." Monica told them.
Some of the teens looked at Monica like she was crazy.
"Now don't fill too much up on pancakes, because your next challenge is might be a little stomach churning."
"Stomach churning?" asked Sunny.
She then pushed away her plate with the remaining pancakes.
"Don't worry, you all got this." Charlotte encouraged.
Pepper squeaked as if he was agreeing with her.
"When you're finished, meet us at the second barn across the farm." Hailey informed.
And then they all left.
"I wonder what we're gonna do?" thought Spikke.
When they finished eating, they went to the second barn, and saw the three women waiting for them. They were in front of a pen, and there was a tarp over an object.
"All right, time for today's challenge. Hailey if you please."
Hailey nodded, and went to to the tarp.
"This challenge is a two-parter. First you'll be riding..."
Hailey then took off the tarp to reveal a black metal bull.
"...a mechanical bull."
"Awesome!" said Glenn.
"Oh boy." whispered Sunny.
Reese looked at his teammates, and Daniel looked at his.
"If I'm going to win this thing, I'm gonna have to step up. Starting now." Reese said.
"There's no way I'm going to let my teammates get ahead of me. I'm going to have to start my plan." Daniel told the audience.
"Here's how it's gonna go, for the first part each member will ride of this mechanical bull, you'll have to stay on for two whole minutes. Those who are able to stay for the whole two minutes will be able to move on to the next part." Monica finished.
"Now choose who'll go first." Hailey instructed.
The teams then huddled up.
"So who wants to go first?" wondered Angie.
"I'll do it." offered Daniel.
Everyone looked at him surprised.
"Hey, I'm not afraid."
And he went over to the bull.
"Who's up?" Reese wanted to know.
"Well...I could." piped up Spikke.
"I'm not really that good with stressful things, like a mechanical bull. But it's best to get it over with." Spikke confessed.
"Great, go get 'em Spikke." encouraged Courtney.
"All right, gentlemen Daniel you're first." Monica told.
He got up on the bull, and Charlotte was ready with the button to start the bull.
"All right, remember you gotta stay on for the full two minutes." Hailey said.
"Ready." Daniel told her.
Monica then gave Charlotte a nod, and she pressed the button. The bull then began jerking back and forth, and up and down. Daniel held on tightly, and managed to stay on for the whole two minutes.
"And a point goes to the Tractors."
The team cheered.
"All right, Haystacks you're next." Monica told.
Spikke then got up on bull, and Charlotte started it. He jerked around, and tried to stay on the bull, but unfortunately, he was thrown off.
"You okay there, Spikke?" asked Hailey.
"Don't worry, I'm fine." he assured.
"That good, unfortunately, you team doesn't gain a point." Monica said.
The Haystacks groaned. Next for the Tractors was Renni, and the Haystacks was Quinten. Renni tried to hold on, but managed to stay for a minute, while Quinten stayed on for the whole two minutes, gaining the Haystacks first point.
"Congratulations, Haystacks. Next."
Then it was between Reese and Riley. Riley didn't last, but Reese did. "Point for the Haystacks." Then it was Sunny and Zuni. Sunny managed to stay on the whole time, and so did Zuni.
"A point for the Haystacks and the Tractors. Good job girls." complimented Monica.
The next pair were Sydney and Glenn. Glenn held on tightly to the metal bull, and stayed on. But Sydney couldn't stay on, and only lasted 10 seconds.
"And another point for the Tractors."
Then it was Courtney and Kat. Courtney went first, and almost fell off the bull, but managed to stay on.
"Point for the Haystacks. Kat you're up."
Kat got on the bull, and Charlotte turned it on. But Kat wasn't so lucky and flew off the bull.
"All right, time for the final round. Angie you're next, and Haystacks you'll have to pick someone to go twice."
"All right, who wants to go again? And don't look at me cause I'm not good at it." Spikke said.
"I can do it again." offered Reese.
And he went to stand alongside Angie.
"Hope you're ready to lose, Reese." Angie sneered at him.
Reese just rolled his eyes.
"I'm so winning this challenge for my team." Angie told.
"All I gotta do is hold on tight."
"Reese you're first." Monica instructed. He got up on the bull, and just like before he stayed on despite all the jerking around.
"And point for the Haystacks. Angie, you're up."
Angie smugly got on the bull, and waited for Charlotte to start it. When she did, Angie was met with an unpleasant surprise when the actual movement of the bull turned out to be rougher than she thought. S
he tried to hold on, but eventually she fell off it.
"And the Haystacks win the first challenge." Monica announced.
The members of the Haystacks cheered happily while the Tractors groaned.
"Now, you'll have a half hour break before we move onto the next part."
That felt really good to everyone, and they went to take their breaks.
"Whew, that was quite a ride." said Sydney, as she massaged her foot.
"You got that right." agreed Sunny.
"At least Monica's giving us a break. Chris McLean would never let us do that." mentioned Spikke.
As Courtney was walking over to her seat, she accidentally tripped, and almost fell. But luckily, she was caught by someone. She turned around, and saw Quinten.
"Hey, careful Courtney." he told her.
"Oh, thanks Quinten." Courtney replied.
And she gazed at him for a moment.
"Okay, is it me or is Quinten kinda cute?" she asked the audience.
"Guys, since we're on a break I think we should talk about who should be the team leader." Reese piped up.
"Well every team does need one." thought Sunny.
"Does anyone volunteer?" he asked.
The members of the Haystacks looked at each other curiously. Then Reese spoke up again.
"Well if no one volunteers, I'd like to take up the role."
At first everyone was surprised, but then began to settle.
"Well you did get us the win for the first challenge." mentioned Courtney.
"That's true." replied Spikke.
"So it's settled, I'm the leader." Reese declared.
With the Tractors, they were relaxing when Daniel decided to put in his two cents to be leader of his team.
"Everyone, do you have any ideas on who should be the leader of this team?" he thought.
Everyone looked at each other.
"Well we hadn't thought about it." said Riley.
"But it's something to think about." mentioned Kat.
"Well would anyone have any objects to me being the leader?" Daniel asked.
Everyone looked unsure.
"I assure you all, I'll be very fair. And I can get out team to the top."
"Are you sure you can do that?" questioned Glenn.
"I will do my best." Daniel assured, sincerely.
"Well we can give you a chance." Zuni told him.
"Great." Daniel replied.
When their break was over, everyone met in the fields.
"All right people, you've rode a mechanical bull, but now it's time to kick things up a notch." Monica told.
"Uh, what do you mean?" asked Angie.
"Bring him out, ladies."
Everyone then heard Charlotte and Hailey grunting, and them into view pulling two ropes that were attached to a large black bull. Everyone was shocked.
That's a lot of bull." said Riley.
"Since this is a real bull. You'll only have to stay on for one minute. All right, Haystacks since you won the last challenge, you get first." Monica told.
Everyone looked at Reese.
"All right, Spikke you're first." he told.
"Me why me?"
"We already know you're not that good. Best to get it out of the way before we start."
"Makes sense." replied.
And so Spikke volunteered to go first again. After being given a safety helmet, he carefully got up on the bull, as Hailey and Charlotte held down the bull.
"All right, remember one minute. And...go!"
As soon as the timer went off, the two let go, and the bull started bucking, and trying throw Spikke off. He yelped and shouted, and held on for dear life. But to his surprise, he managed to held on for the whole minute.
"And the first point goes to the Haystacks." Monica announced.
The Haystacks cheered with delight.
"Great job, Spikke." complimented Quinten.
Spikke hobbled off the bull, and back to his team. "Hooray." he said in pain.
"Tractors, you're up."
"Any volunteers?" asked Daniel.
"I'll go." piped up Renni.
"You go, girl." encouraged Zuni.
After putting on her helmet, she got on the bull, and the timer started. She bounced up and down, but clung on for dear life. Luckily she too managed to stay on for the whole minute.
"And a point for the Tractors. So far we're tied. And it can be anyone's game." Monica said to the audience.
As the rest of the challenge went on, each team either gained or lost a point. Sunny gained a point, when she could stay on, but Glenn was thrown onto the ground. When Quinten went next, but wasn't able to stay on.
Angie was able to stay on, and earned her team a point.
"All right, I'm up next." Reese told his team.
"Good luck." encouraged Courtney.
"Don't need it." he replied.
That left Courtney feeling a bit annoyed.
"Okay, I hope we didn't make a mistake about making Reese the leader." Courtney confessed.
With his helmet on, Reese was ready.
"All right, and go!" Monica said.
The timer started, the bull jerked around and Reese held on tightly. When the minute was up, he was still on.
"Point for the Haystacks. Next."
For the Tractors, Daniel went up next. Once he was ready, the bull started moving. He almost fell off, but he was able to stay on.
"Point for the Tractors." Daniel got off, and gave cocky look towards Reese.
He scowled at him.
"Haystacks, who's next?"
"I'll go." Courtney piped up.
"You can do it, Courtney." encouraged Quinten.
Courtney smiled under his praise. On the bull, she got bounced up and down, but managed to stay on.
"Another point for the Haystacks."
"They're on fire." replied Charlotte.
Pepper squeaked at her.
"Come on guys, we gotta pick things up. Who's next?" Daniel wanted to know.
"I'll go, and I know I can do it." Zuni offered.
"Come on up, Zuni." Hailey told her.
She put on her helmet, and got up on the bull. Once the bull started bucking, Zuni stayed calm and held on tightly.
"And a point goes to the Tractors."
"Great job, Zuni." cheered Renni.
"We're all tied up again. Only two more rounds left." Monica announced.
"Sydney you're up." Resse instructed.
"I'm on it." Sydney replied.
"All right, Riley, Kat which one of you wants to go next?" Daniel wanted to know.
"Me next." Kat said quickly.
"No problem with me, ladies first." Riley replied.
Sydney went first, and rode the bull. There was a minute where she almost flew off but, she stayed on. Then when Kat went she too stayed on.
"All right, time for the tie breaker round."
"All right, who wants to go again?" asked Reese.
"I'd rather not." Spikke piped up.
"I'll go." offered Courtney.
"Go get 'em." encouraged Sydney.
She got back on the bull, and managed to stay on again. Then it was Riley's turn. Things were going well, but then he decided to let one hand free to wave to his team. But as he did that, the bull bucked hard, and he went flying off.
"And the winners of the bull riding challenge are the Haystacks!" cheered Monica.
The Haystacks cheered with delight.
"For your reward, you'll get a BBQ dinner. Tractors I'll see at the elimination ceremony."
The Tractors just looked at each other disappointingly.
That night, the Tractors sat at the elimination spot.
"All right everyone, you've cast your votes. And now it's time to see who's going." Monica started.
Everyone looked at each other nervously.
"When I call your name come up, and Charlotte will give you a carrot."
She then looked at her clipboard.
"Daniel."
He happily got up, and got a carrot.
"Kat."
"Renni."
"Angie."
"Zuni."
It was now down between Glenn and Riley.
"And the final carrot goes to..."
Things were tense as the two boys waited for a name.
"...Glenn."
Glenn breathed a sigh of relief, and got his carrot.
"Aw man." complained Riley.
"Time to go, Riley." Monica told him.
And he got up and left.
"And there goes another contestant. Who'll leave next, find out next time on Totally Epic: Life on the Farm." Monica told the audience.
