Chapter 646: The Bleachers

Saturday, March 11th, Afternoon

Shaking her head, she looked at her husband as he rested his hands on his cheeks, pulling down on his cheeks. He looked up at the scoreboard and saw that both sides had the same number, twenty-five. He turned away from the scoreboard towards his wife. She shook her head, then sighed.

"That wasn't good," Chase said.

Huck shook his head, "No, it wasn't," he said.

Chase sighed, "It's because of what happened to Brett," she said, and Huck looked at her, seeing Chase's hand shaking.

"Yeah," Huck said, nodded, and looked towards the Tree Hill bench. Coach Scott was talking with his team, looking to rally the troops.

"Brett's so close with the older girls, and how it happened seemed to take the wind out of their sails," Chase said.

"Yeah," Huck said, shook his head, and looked back down on the bench.

"I hope Brett is okay," Chase said.

"Me too," Huck said.

Chase looked down at the bench. She saw the girls sitting on the bench and counted them. There were eleven of them; Chase could see jade Loyal was wearing a splint on her injured hand. But Chase also noticed that there were only two coaches on the bench.

"Where's Ashlyn?" Chase asked.

Huck looked back to the bench and nodded, "Hmm, good point; she's been missing since Brett got hurt," he said.

"I wonder why," Chase said.

"Lucas probably sent her back to check on Brett," Huck said.

"I hope Brett is alright," Chase said again.

"Me too," Huck said and nodded, looking at the Tree Hill bench forlorn.

"What are you thinking?" Chase asked.

Huck shrugged, "That I don't want to see my daughter injured," he said.

Chase nodded, "I think she'll be alright; she's tough like her daddy," she said.

Huck nodded, his ears turning slightly red, and looked at Chase. "She's still my little girl," Huck said.

"Not your only one," Chase said.

"They're all my little girls," Huck said.

"Even Col?" Chase asked.

"Well, even though he's not a girl," Huck said.

Chase nodded, chuckled, and leaned against Huck. He put his arm around her; Chase rested her head against Huck's shoulder. Huck moved his head and kissed the top of Chase's head. She closed her eyes and sighed.

The serenity that Chase was experiencing by the sound of the crowd. Picking her head up, she opened her eyes; Chase could see Ashlyn, Ashton, and Brett coming out of the locker room.

"It seems that Brett's back," Chase said.

"I wonder why AP is with them?" Chase asked.

"I bet Lucas called her in to check on Jade," Huck said.

"She probably worked on Brett as well," Chase said.

"There's no one better," Huck said and nodded.

Chase watched as Lucas and Kiera talked with Ashlyn and Ashton. Lucas nodded a few times as Ashton spoke with him. Chase watched as Lucas turned to look over the team. Finally, Lucas turned back to Brett and nodded his head. Brett nodded back; Chase noticed she smiled a bit and removed her warmup jersey. The crowd went crazy as Brett walked to the scoring table and checked in.

Brett walked back to the bench to get instructions for the team from the coaches. Chase wondered if any blood had gotten onto Brett's jersey. Chase already planned on paying for Brett's jersey and wondered if they would buy the black one.

"She looks fine," Chase said.

"There's a bandaged behind her ear," Huck said.

"I noticed that," Chase said.

"Is Northwest Guilford going to take advantage?" Huck asked.

"I don't know; what would you do?" Chase asked.

"I'd take advantage," Huck said.

"So, I wouldn't be surprised," Chase said.

"Yeah," Huck said.

"Behave yourself," Chase said.

"What do you mean?" Huck asked.

"If they take advantage of Brett's injury, don't make a scene," Chase said.

"What makes you say that?" Huck asked.

"I know you, Huck, my dear," Chase said.

"Don't worry, Huck, I'll make a scene," Brooke said.

"Thanks, Brooke," Huck said.

"You're welcome," Brooke said.

"Why are you going to make a scene?" Buck asked.

"I'm not," Huck said.

"So, why are people talking about making a scene?" Buck asked.

"Yeah, and what are you going to do about it?" Brooke asked.

Buck stayed quiet as Huck took a sip of his water. The two teams started moving out onto the court to start play. It was the fourth quarter, the final chance of the last game.

Huck began to whistle the theme to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. The two teams walked onto the floor and took position like gunslingers poised for a shootout. Again, her red hair made Brett visible on the floor.

Chase watched as Brett looked at the player that was guarding her. The two girls talked to each other, and Brett nodded. The Northwest Guilford player kept talking; all Brett did was nod, take a hand and brush off her shoulder.

Chase smiled and elbowed Huck.

"What?" Huck asked.

"From the bleachers, they screaming, all the ballers is bouncing, they like the way I be leaning," Chase said.

Huck nodded, "She brushed her shoulder off?" he asked.

"Yes, she did," Chase said.

Huck smiled, "Get that dirt off your shoulders," he said and got ready to watch the fourth quarter.
