Chapter 665: 14:00
Sunday, March 12th, Afternoon
(Rerun's Bar and Grill)
The three young ladies walked into Rerun's Bar and Grill. Brett looked over at the bar to see Rerun cleaning a glass. They made eye contact, and Rerun smiled.
"Ladies, here for lunch?" Rerun asked.
"Yes, and hi, Rerun," Brett said.
"Hi, Rerun," Baylee said.
"Hey, Rerun," Avril said.
"Find an empty spot outback," Rerun said.
"Thanks," Brett said.
The three young women walked to the back. Avril sidetracked to the bar and got three menus from Rerun. They found a table and took their seats. Avril handed out the menus.
"So, what do we have to do?" Baylee asked.
"Have to get the stuff we need," Avril said.
"Make sure the beach house is ready," Brett said.
"What about the stuff?" Baylee asked.
"I texted Ellie, but she hadn't gotten back to me," Brett said.
"We're going to have to get cups and shit," Avril said.
"There's always Walmart," Brett said.
"True," Baylee said.
"Also, we're going to get our cars to bring them to the beach house," Avril said.
"Good point, also," Baylee said as Brett pulled out her phone and checked her messages. Avril and Baylee watched as Brett replied, then put her phone away.
"Who was that, B?" Avril asked.
"Ellie will meet us at the River Court when we're done," Brett said.
"Right!" Baylee said, and Avril nodded.
The Waitress, Kora, came up to the table, "Welcome to Rerun's; I'm Kora; I'll be your server; what can I start you with?" she asked.
The three young women smiled and put down their menus.
(Fire and Ice Cafe)
The bells over the door rang as Angela stepped through the door. The memories of her youth and her mom's cafe flooded Angela's thoughts. She looked across the room and found the two women she was meeting. Angela removed her Chastity Davis Special Sunglasses and smiled. Ashlyn and Chase smiled back as Angela crossed the floor and joined them.
"When I got your message, I expected AP to join us as well," Angela said as she slipped her coat off.
"She would've loved to join us, but she had to pick up Cam," Ashlyn said.
"Wow, they're still doing it," Angela said.
"Co-parenting? Yeah, she's getting better at it. Not quite as good as Chase and me, yet," Ashlyn said.
Chase shrugged, "Brett made it easy," she said, "I'm surprised Ken and AP haven't gone at each other yet."
Angela shook her head, "I've not had the pleasure of co-parenting," she said.
"Sorry, Angela," Chase said.
"Sorry," Chase said.
Angela shrugged, "It's okay," she said.
"So, what's the latest?" Chase asked.
"The latest what?" Angela asked.
"Nothing more," Ashlyn said.
"Nothing more what?" Angela asked.
"Brett talked Deb Lee into giving her the keys to the beach house, and they're throwing a victory party," Ashlyn said.
"That's not bad; we've done that, hell our state championship victory party was a blowout," Angela said.
"That's what I said," Chase interjected.
"I don't want Brett to screw up Norte Dame," Ashlyn said.
"I was committed to UCONN when we threw ours," Angela said.
"I said that too," Chase added.
"I'm just worried," Ashlyn said.
"Ash, it's time to let the baby bird fly," Chase said.
"Where are the kids, Chase?" Angela asked.
"The older two are at Nathans, and the younger two are with Kelly," Chase said.
"Oh boy," Angela said, laughing as a waitress came over to take their order.
(River Court)
The car she used while here slid into a parking space at the River Court. Ellie got out of the car and walked out towards the basketball court. The wind maintained its cold ocean air up the river, and Ellie could see clouds building up on the horizon; a storm was possibly coming.
Ellie stopped at the center court and looked around. She spent time watching pick-up basketball games. Looking around, she didn't see her contact wasn't around, causing her to sigh. Turning back to a pair of picnic benches, she was her contact.
How did someone get to the benches without seeing them? Ellie walked to the picnic bench and sat down. They looked across the table at each other.
"Thank you for coming, Mister…." Ellie started to say.
"Renfield, please call me Renfield," he said.
"So, tell me about the club," Ellie said.
"I'm not sure we have the time," Renfield said.
"So, how are we going to do this," Ellie said.
"Well, I'm going to leave now," Renfield said.
"What? We hardly talked," Ellie said.
Renfield said, getting up and walking away. Ellie hopped up and followed; she was distracted by a boat horn. Ellie stopped and turned towards the noise. Once she confirmed the noise, she turned back and saw Renfield disappear.
Ellie looked around, confused; shaking her head, she returned to the bench. Sitting on the table unnoticed initially was an old-school microtape. Ellie shrugged and picked it up, taking it all in.
(Beaulieu Manor)
Brooke leaned back on the sofa in one of the parlors of Beaulieu Manor. The thought of her conversation with Fallon and Keni was a bit heated. Of her daughters, there were two factions, for lack of better terms—Brooke's three daughters with her ex and Fallon and Keni. Fallon and Keni have the same dad, and Fallon wants Keni to be more like Fallon.
Brooke shook her head; yes, Brooke wanted Keni to be more aware. Keni was a challenge., mainly because she was stubborn. Brooke had five daughters and a son; while it was different, Keni brought a whole new level.
Brooke picked her head up and saw her grandson, Ellis. She studied the small boy, one of the younger of her three grandchildren; Brooke took him in. He was doodling on a drawing pad, very much a reflection of his other grandma.
Nodding her head, she picked up her smartphone; she scrolled through her contacts. Finally, Brooke found the one she was looking for and hit the call button.
Once the person on the other end picked up, Brooke sighed. "Mina, sorry to bother you on a Sunday. Yeah, the girls want to go to a party tonight. I want to be the cool mom, but I understand if you can't do it. Yes, yes, of course, it's double time. Yeah, I'll text you the details, and if you want, you don't have to work tomorrow. I could get one of the other drivers; I figure you'd want the time. Okay, I'll send over the details," Brooke said and hung up.
Brooke looked at Ellis and smiled.
