Chapter 672: 21:00

Sunday, March 12th, Night

(Deb Lee's Beach House)

The party started in earnest at about the turn of the hour. Most of the usual suspects had shown up, so Brett, acting as the host, circulated and greeted everyone, precisely what her Grammy Brooke would do.

Standing by the door out to the porch, Brett looked out to see Sawyer, LK, and Keni. Brett smiled at the three younger teenagers, which Brett somehow related to through marriage. The girls were probably streaming; Brett always wondered if they wanted to be Instagram famous.

Brett smiled and walked toward the main room. She saw Alexis and Shep talking. The quieter of the Gresham twins meshes well with Alexis. The high-strung cheerleader seemed to be hanging on to every word that Shep spoke. Brett nodded to the new couple and walked on.

The following person Brett saw was Shannon. Typically, the cheer captain was holding court. Shannon's loyal handmaiden, Joce Allen-Travis, was there chatting up Shannon. Brett nodded to Shannon and kept her circulation.

Shannon's little brother, Jackin, was hanging out with two of his friends, which included Keir. Brett didn't see what Sawyer saw in Keir, but that's Sawyer's business. To Brett, as long as Keir treated Sawyer well, didn't cheat on her, and they were happy, that mattered to Brett.

Garvan hadn't shown up yet. That was becoming Garvan's thing, not showing up to something, especially things important to Brett. Maybe, it's his new hole, Felicia, but of all people, why Felicia?

Brett looked over to see Baylee and Parker getting cozy. Half of her mind told her that Baylee and Parker would soon retreat to one of the bedrooms. Brett was cool as long as they were safe and cleaned up after themselves.

Avril stood by the stereo and was fiddling with the CD changer. Brett laughed as the tall young woman did not understand the old tech. But to Brett's eye, everything was going well.

(Deb Lee's Beach House)

Avril was playing with the ancient stereo. Finally, she figured out how to get the CD Player to play. Avril stared at the stereo, pissed as it was only starting to play music.

Avril listened to a few beats, then smiled.

"This is how we do it!" Avril said, "Bay, B, c'mon, let's do it."

"No, Av, it's embarrassing," Baylee said.

"C'mon, Bay, do it," Parker said to Baylee and kissed her neck.

"Uh! Uh! B?" Baylee murmured.

Brett shrugged, "Only if Av joins us," she said.

"I'm in," Avril said.

Brett shook her head, walked over to an open spot, and kicked off her heels. Baylee came over and did the same. Avril was wearing flats, so she didn't kick off her shoes.

"I can't believe we're doing this," Baylee said.

"We're doing this," Avril said.

"We've done this since junior high school," Baylee said.

"Let's do this," Brett said and pressed the back button on the CD player, "Let's go out with a bang."

The music started playing, and the young women started dancing. There were a few chuckles, but Alexis shook her head, stepped away from Shep, and joined Brett, Baylee, and Avril. Avril smiled at Brett and knew they were enjoying themselves no matter what.

This is how we do it
(This is how we do it)
(This is how we do it)

This is how we do it
It's Friday night and I feel all right
The party is here on the West side
So I reach for my 40 and I turn it up
Designated driver take the keys to my truck

Hit the shore 'cause I'm faded
Honey's in the street say, Monty, yo we made it
It feels so good in my hood tonight
The summertime skirts and my guys in Kani
All the gang bangers forgot about the drive-by
You gotta get your groove on before you go get paid
So tip up your cup and throw your hands up
And let me hear the party say

I'm kinda buzzed and it's all because
(This is how we do it)
South Central does it like nobody does
(This is how we do it)

To all my neighbors, you got much flavor
(This is how we do it)
Let's flip the track, bring the old school back
(This is how we do it)

This is how we do it, all hands are in the air
And wave them from here to there
If you're an OG mack or a wanna-be player
You see the hood's been good to me
Ever since I was a lower case G
But now I'm a big G
The girls see I got the money
Hundred dollar bills, y'all

If you were from where I'm from
Then you would know
That I gotta get mine in a big black truck
You can get yours in a '64
Whatever it is, the party's underway
So tip up your cup and throw your hands up
And let me hear the party say

I'm kinda buzzed, it's all because
(This is how we do it)
South Central does it like nobody does
(This is how we do it)

To all my neighbors, you got much flavor
(This is how we do it)
Let's flip the track, bring the old school back
(This is how we do it)

I'm kinda buzzed, it's all because
(This is how we do it)
South Central does it like nobody does, nobody does
(This is how we do it)

YNV, SCC
(This is how we do it) All my homies
I'll never come wack on an old school track
(This is how we do it)

Check it out
Once upon a time in '94
Montell made no money and life sure was slow
And all they said was 6'8 he stood
And people thought the music that he made was good
There lived a DJ and Paul was his name
He came up to Monty, this is what he said
You and OG are gonna make some cash
Sell a million records and we're making the dash

Oh, I'm buzzing because
(This is how we do it)
South Central does it like nobody does
(This is how we do it)

To all my neighbors, you got much flavor
(This is how we do it)
I'll never come wack on an old school track
(This is how we do it)

I'm kinda buzzed, it's all because
(This is how we do it)
South Central does it like nobody does, nobody does
(This is how we do it)

Oh, it's party time
(This is how we do it)
Straight up coming from the west side
(This is how we do it)

Oh, she's got the flavor, yeah
(This is how we do it)
And Monty does it like nobody does
(This is how we do it)

Come on now, Def Jam
You know that this is how we do it
This is how we do it

Yo Montell, this Percy, man, the barber, your barber
Man, I'm sitting up here listening to your tape, dude
And this shit is on, man
You gon' make it, fool
Keep on doing what you doing, man
My phone number is area code 909, 0, 80
Gimme a call, man
We getting ready to step out to the Fox Hills Mall right now, but uh
It's Monday morning about a quarter to eleven, peace

(Deb Lee's Beach House)

After they finished their quick live stream, they went inside. Sawyer went one way and Keni the other way. Keni went over and got a drink; Sawyer smiled and went to find Keir.

Sawyer chuckled when she saw Brett, Baylee, Avril, and Alexis doing some dancing to an old-school song. For a moment, Sawyer felt lonely as she missed her brother Keith; he would know this song and probably enjoy dancing to it.

With a smile, Sawyer walked over to where Keir stood with Jackin and Wade. Sawyer smiled her brilliant smile at Wade and then turned to Keir.

"Hey, Keir," Sawyer said.

"Sawyer," Keir said.

"So, are you liking the party?" Sawyer asked.

"It's okay," Keir said.

"It's just started," Sawyer said with a slight purr.

"Yeah, well, you want something to drink?" Keir asked.

"I don't drink alcohol, but we can get something to drink," Sawyer said.

"Okay," Keir said.

"Okay," Sawyer said.

"See you guys," Keir said, resting his hand on the small of Sawyer's back as they walked across the living room to the drinks.

(Deb Lee's Beach House)

LK stepped into the house and looked across the kitchen; she saw Alexis, Avril, Bett, and Baylee dancing. LK closed the door behind her and walked entirely into the kitchen.

Coming to the kitchen island, sitting on it were clear plastic cups with several bright-colored food items filled them. LK looked at them and slowly reached out to touch one of the cups. The brightly colored material jiggled and smiled. Jell-o, those little cups were filled with Jell-O. LK loves Jell-O, especially the flavors that were spread out before her.

LK took a firm grip on the cup and pulled it forward. She brought it up to her face and looked it over. The content of the cup was less than what she used to eat. LK nodded and saw the Jell-o seemed to move in the cup.

Taking it up to her mouth, she slipped it into her mouth. As the tiny bit of Jell-o slid across her tongue. Lk thought the Jell-o tasted slightly different but still good, and she liked Jell-o. Lk swallowed the little bit of Jell-o that slid down her throat.

LK smiled, put the empty cup down, and reached for another cup of a different color. LK shook the cup and gulped down the other color. She smiled and suddenly felt a rush of warmth pass through and over her body. It was a different feeling, and she liked it.

LK smiled a little, then giggled awkwardly. Putting the empty cup next to the first one, she reached for a third one and ate that one.

(Deb Lee's Beach House)

The area around the beach house was packed with cars. Ashlyn even saw one of the Beaulieu cars with Mina, the woman that usually drove the Terrible Three, sitting in the driver's seat reading. In silence, Ashlyn stood in the shadows watching the beach house.

Ashlyn found herself in a foul mood, too. Miami lost to Indiana 98 to 102, and James had an awful game. When she spoke to James, he was his usual detached self when they lost and was dealing with playing a bad game.

So, Ashlyn found herself standing outside the beach house, pissed.

"It's time for her to make her own mistake," Huck said, standing beside Ashlyn.

"What are you doing here?" Ashlyn asked.

"Having a parental talk with my daughter's mom," Huck said.

"How did you know I'd be here?" Ashlyn asked.

"Chase," Huck said.

"Isn't it Chase's birthday today?" Ashlyn asked.

"Yeah, but she thought I should talk to you," Huck said.

Ashlyn shook her head, "Chase the Bonus Mom," she said.

"She's more worried about you than her birthday," Huck said.

"I don't want…." Ashlyn said and shut up.

"Ash, I can do the math; I'm well aware when and under what circumstances Brett was conceived," Huck said.

"I don't want," Ashlyn said and shook her head, "I don't know, I'm thirty-three; I don't want to be a grandma or have Brett ruin her life."

"Did Brett ruin your life?" Huck asked.

"Yes, no, I don't know, certainly made it harder," Ashlyn said.

"You raised a good daughter with a solid head on her shoulder; I don't think she'll get into that sort of trouble," Huck said.

"Thank you," Ashlyn said, "What sort of trouble do you think she'll get into?"

"Oh, I think there'll be a Kerry tonight," Huck said.

"A Kerry? How do you know that?" Ashlyn asked, "And don't tell me a little bird told you."

"No, Bobbi-Lee," Huck said.

"Oh, fuck," Ashlyn said.

"Exactly," Huck said.

(Fire and Ice Café)

They sat in the booth staring at each other across the table. Shay had a cup of coffee, and a BLT sandwich, while Noah had a double cheeseburger, and a coke, with a plate piled high with French fries between them. Eilish had just left them alone at this quiet time of night.

"Noah, you have to leave Chase alone," Shay said.

"Why?" Noah asked.

"Because she's asked and now is demanding," Shay said.

"She's my sister," Noah said.

Shay sighed, "Noah, once she asked you to leave her alone and you kept bothering her, it is now considered harassment," Shay said.

"She can't do that!" Noah said, "Can she?"

"Yes, she can," Shay said, "Chase can be cold like that as well."

"So, what can I do?" Noah asked.

"Leave Chase and her family alone; she wants nothing to do with you," Shay said.

"We're family," Noah said.

Shay sighed, "Families, as you should know, are a messy thing, and ours, including Chase, are just as messy," she said.

"That's not fair," Noah said.

"Life isn't fair, Noah," Shay said.

"What?" Noah asked.

"Let me sum it up for you, Noah," Shay said, "Leave Chase and her family alone, finish your food, and I'll bring you home."

"Are you sure, Shay?" Noah asked.

"Sadly, I am," Shay said.

Noah nodded and took a bit of his burger.

(Deb Lee's Beach House)

The party was going off, the music was blasting, and someone just kept the music going. Baylee chuckled because Avril eventually took over the music, since other than Brett, Avril was the only one that understood the CD player. Baylee took a sip of her drink and looked at Parker.

Parker smiled at Baylee. Baylee smiled back and kissed Parker. When they broke apart, Baylee and her paramour looked deeply into each other's eyes.

"Being the conquering hero?" Parker asked.

"Yes, but not yet," Baylee said.

"What does that mean?" Parker asked.

Baylee chuckled, "You're smart; I think you can and will figure it out," she said.

"Are you drunk?" Parker asked.

"Not totally," Baylee said.

"I could get into trouble," Parker said.

"You know what is sexy?" Baylee asked.

"What?" Parker asked.

"Respecting consent," Baylee said.

"Oh, yeah?" Parker asked.

"Yeah," Baylee said, "You know, I have a room and feel like becoming the conquering hero."

"I see; I'm not sure," Parker said.

Baylee leaned in, kissed Parker's neck, trailed kisses up to Parker's ear, and nibbled it. Parker shivered under Baylee's hot breath into Parker's ear. Baylee slowly dragged her lips up and pressed her cheek against Parker's, and whispered into Parker's ear.

"Okay, I'm in," Parker sighed.

"Follow me," Baylee said, took a firm hold of Parker's hand, and they went upstairs with Baylee in the lead.

(Deb Lee's Beach House)

Brett looked over the crowd from the stairs, drinking out of a blue solo cup. Things weren't crazy, which was good as she took an extended sip of her beer. Looking to the dance floor, Brett could see the Loyal sisters dancing, and they were jamming to the song Avril was playing. They enjoyed the music and took it literally; they got low.

Mm-mm-mm-mm
Let me talk to 'em
Let me talk to 'em
Let it rain, mm-mm-mm
Let me talk to 'em
C'mon

Shawty had them apple bottom jeans (jeans)
Boots with the fur (with the fur)
The whole club was lookin' at her
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

Them baggy sweat pants and the Reeboks with the straps (with the straps)
She turned around and gave that big booty a slap (hey)
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

As Baylee and Parker headed upstairs and passed Brett. The two lifelong friends smiled big, knowing smiles, and Parker just shrugged at Brett. Brett smiled and knew what they were up to, and it was a good thing. Brett sighed and took another sip of her beer.

Hey, I ain't never seen nothin' that'll make me go
This crazy all night, spending my dough
Had the million dollar vibe and a body to go
Them birthday cakes, they stole the show
So sexual
She was flexible, professional
Drinkin' X and O
Hold up wait a minute, do I see what I think I-, whoa

Did her thing, I seen shawty get low
Ain't the same when it's up that close
Make it rain, I'm makin' it snow
Work the pole, I got the bankroll
I'ma say that I prefer the no clothes
I'm into that, I love women exposed
She threw it back at me, I gave her more
Cash ain't a problem, I know where it go

She had them apple bottom jeans (jeans)
Boots with the fur (with the fur)
The whole club was lookin' at her
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

The following person Brett overwatched was Keni. The petite brunette sophomore was talking with some cheerleaders in a corner. Some people were looking at Keni not being with Sawyer, and chirping started. Brett knew Keni and Sawyer weren't always together and could exist without each other. But it was odd.

Them baggy sweat pants and the Reeboks with the straps (with the straps)
She turned around and gave that big booty a slap (ayy)
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

Hey, shawty, what I gotta do to get you home?
My jeans filled with guap and they ready for shones
Cadillacs, Maybachs for the sexy grown
Patron on the rocks that'll make your moan
One stack c'mon, two stacks c'mon, three stacks c'mon
Now that's three grand
What you think I'm playin'? Baby-girl, I'm the man
I invented rubber bands

That's what I told her, her legs on my shoulders
I knew it was over
That Henny and Cola got me like a soldier
She ready for Rover, I couldn't control her
So lucky, oh, me, I was just like a clover
Shawty was hot like a toaster
Sorry, but I had to fold her
Like a pornography poster, she showed her

Apple bottom jeans (jeans)
Boots with the fur (with the fur)
The whole club was lookin' at her
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

Upon that revelation, Brett turned to see Sawyer talking to one of the friends of Shannon's brother. Brett could see Sawyer and the friend were flirting heavily. Brett never saw Sawyer this way, which caused her to wonder if Sawyer's been drinking. Brett noted that Shannon's brother did not like what was happening. It didn't take a genius for anyone to see Shannon's brother was into Sawyer, but she didn't know he existed.

Them baggy sweat pants and the Reeboks with the straps (with the straps)
She turned around and gave that big booty a slap (hey)
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

Whoa, shawty, yeah she was worth the money
Lil' mama took my cash
And I ain't want it back
The way she bent that back
Got all them paper stacks
Tattoo above her crack
I had to handle that

Brett noted to check with Keni and Shannon on what is happening between Sawyer and Shannon's brother's friends. Shaking her head, Brett took another long sip of her beer. That's when the front door opened.

I was on it, sexy woman
Let me showin', and make me want it
Two in the morning, I'm zoned in
Them Rosay bottles foaming
She wouldn't stop, made it drop
Shawty did that pop and lock
Had to break her off that guap
Gal was fly just like my Glock

Apple bottom jeans (jeans)
Boots with the fur (with the fur)
The whole club was lookin' at her
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

Most people didn't notice, but a few looked at the door. One of those people was Brett. Her face hardened as she saw Garvan Muir and Felicia Witt walk in. Her erstwhile boyfriend chose to attend her victory party with his side piece. Brett nodded and took another sip of her beer.
