Chapter 695: 27 Club

Monday, March 13th, Afternoon

Felicia looked at the blank screen and waited for the notes of the song she chose to run over the end credits, primarily as filler, to begin to play. Words started appearing on the screen like headlights out of the thick fog. They were blurry at first, but slowly they gained shape and became legible.

Brian Durham Scott died on April 30th at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

An autopsy was done as by law. As part of this, a toxic screen was performed.

The toxic screen came back negative for any substances.

There were no visible wounds on the body other than what was done during his treatment to save his life by the hospital and EMS.

Brian did not respond to any treatments applied.

The cause of death was listed as cardiac arrest by an unknown cause.

Brian had a high-performance heart attack, the media would later comment.

Brian Scott was twenty-seven years old when he passed.

He left behind a partner and five children by three different women.

On that Walpurgisnacht, Brian Scott joined the infamous 27 Club.

Brian Scott was cremated, and his ashes were spread at a secret point overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Brian Scott is again as free as the Ravens.

All the words eventually faded, except for 27 Club, which turned red. As the red deepened in color, it eventually faded into the black background like a monster returning to hide in the darkness. The music kept playing as the credits began to roll. Finally, a card appeared on the screen.

And Finally, to my parents for all their love and support.

Felicia nodded and looked over the crowd. She looked at the stunned faces as she brought the house lights up. Eventually, Felicia saw a tear or more shed. In a touching moment, Lucas Scott started to clap. This got the rest of the crowd to clap. Felicia nodded and smiled; she felt she had done it and took a bow.

After the applause ended, the crowd started to disperse. One by one, they returned to their original lives. As they headed towards the door, they would pause and fill out the cards she had handed to them before the film. Once they finished, they dropped it in the bowl she left by the door and left. The day and premiere were finally over, and she could breathe a stress-free breath, finally.

You have to suffer to make great art. That is what we are told, as we demand more from our creatives. People create because they like to or to help themselves. But we don't want them to improve because they won't create. If they don't create, we can't profit from them. So, we try to make them worse. We want our heroes to fall. The only thing better than a story of rising is a story of falling. We need to stop making people who are crying for help go unheard. We need to stop normalizing bad mental health is needed to be a great creative. We need to stop holding high the myth of the 27 Club. Artists die, great artists die, and no more or no less at any other age; there is nothing special about dying at 27. What I saw were people that needed help, cried out for help, and we just fed their pain. What are your thoughts? Comment below.

So, here we are, the end of Episode 19 and the reveal of the next secret. What to say about this? There is no music, and pretty much most of this episode is spent watching a movie. There were a few interludes to advance another few stories, but this was the climax of the Brian Scott movie storyline and the reveal of what happened to Brian.

I had decided that Brian would die pretty early in the post-Bless the Broken Road planning. At the time, I wasn't sure what my next story would be, I was developing three of them, and all were fairly far along. But Brian was going to die. Only later did I decide he would join the 27 Club. This created the Annus Horribilis and why things are set where they are set in the timeline. I wanted Brett to be a senior, but Brian had to be already dead to do that.

My thoughts on the 27 Club. See what RavenHussar wrote. We should treat people crying for help so they can get healthy. Part of the reason for my divorce was stated by my ex about their mental health, there were other things, but those are far more personal. While the stories and legends of the 27 Club are fun talks, remember these were real people with real problems.

This is the end of an extremely long form of storytelling. It started when I first dressed Brian in leather pants and no shirt; it's Jim Morrison. Mentions of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. If you are sharp, the songs of Robert Johnson. Also, a happy accident when I was writing the scene that took place in Sarah D Roosevelt Park, I was on Google Maps, and there was a mural of the 27 Club painted there. So, of course, I added it. It helped feed the story and gave local color. Even the song Brian and Anya did, mentions the 27 Club. So, the secret that Brian had died, it was always there. Even the fact he was becoming popular again was modeled on Kurt Cobain.

Well, if you read these, leave a review.

See you in Episode 20
