Chapter 700: Dylan Mason's Apartment
Tuesday, March 14th, Evening
It was a small, comfortable apartment in a converted waterfront building. Probably an old warehouse. She adjusted herself and made sure the bottle was secure in her hand. With her free hand, Elizabeth "Ellie" Scott brushed her bangs out of her eyes, then knocked on the door.
The door opened, and a tall stunning platinum blonde stood there. Ellie was tall for a woman, but she was even taller but not quite six feet tall, and the woman at the door wore flip-flops, which shows her height to be near normal. She wore low-rise jeans and a cropped sweatshirt. A tattoo peeked out at the hemline of her jeans, which looked like the Boston College Eagle logo. Ellie studied this woman; she had pale gray eyes, and a purple headband held back her platinum blonde hair. Ellie noted her skin was alabaster.
"Hey Ellie, please come in," Eleni Melanthios said, with a smile on her full lips.
"Thanks," Ellie said, offering Eleni the bottle, "I brought this."
Eleni took the bottle and looked it over. She nodded and looked towards Ellie. "Thanks, come in; Dylan almost has dinner ready," Eleni said.
"Okay," Ellie said and let Eleni show her in. The bulk of the floor plan was open, and the bedroom was lofted above the kitchen.
"Are you hungry?" Eleni asked.
"Yeah," Ellie said, "I didn't know we were having, dinner so I guessed."
Eleni nodded, "Would you like a glass now or with dinner?" she asked, holding up the bottle.
"Yes, please," Ellie said.
"Give me a moment," Eleni said, opened the bottle, and poured two glasses, "Have a seat on the couch; I'll bring it over."
"Okay," Ellie said and sat on the couch. She looked around the small living room section of the apartment. There were several magazines and a copy of Anna Becca's book The Girl That Always Wore Purple.
Eleni walked over and handed Ellie a glass of wine. "So, how do you like the apartment?" Eleni asked.
Ellie nodded, "It's nice, cozy," she said.
Eleni shrugged, "Not like a whole townhouse," she said.
"My dad wants me to keep an eye on it," Ellie said.
"But you're here," Eleni said.
"Some personal entanglements," Ellie said.
Eleni shrugged, "So, how's the new book coming?" she asked.
"Still shopping it around," Ellie said.
Eleni leaned forward and picked up the book. "I've always wondered about this book," Eleni said.
"What about it?" Ellie asked.
"The bar in LA while Anna was visiting her sister," Eleni said.
"You're going to have to ask Anna Becca," Ellie said.
"I am," Eleni said.
"It might be a little exaggerated, but generally true," Ellie said, sipping her wine.
Eleni put her glass down and the book. She looked at Ellie and nodded her head. "I see," Eleni said.
"Yeah, that's how it is with memoirs; the story is more important," Ellie said.
Eleni nodded, "Speaking of stories, are you investigating Absolution?" she asked.
"I can't tell you," Ellie said.
"I've seen you at Absolution many times; I know you're not into that scene," Eleni said.
"How do you know that?" Ellie asked.
"I know the type, considering," Eleni said.
"So, why do you bring my clubbing habits up?" Ellie asked.
"Eleni looked at Ellie. "I saw you talking with Renfield," she said.
"He's an interesting man with an interesting story," Ellie said.
Eleni nodded, "That's just it, a story," she said.
"What do you mean?" Ellie asked.
"Did he give you the tape?" Eleni asked.
"I don't know what you mean," Ellie said.
"He likes to give anyone remotely interested in a good story a microtape," Eleni said.
"Why would he use a microtape?" Ellie asked.
"Technophobia, I would guess," Eleni said.
"Why are you skiing about this?" Ellie asked.
Eleni nodded, "We like to keep a sense of mystery about the club," Eleni said.
"Who are the we?" Ellie asked.
"My older sister, Paget, who owns and runs the club," Eleni said.
"So, you're just a waitress there?" Ellie asked.
"Most of the time," Eleni said.
"So, why are you talking to me about this?" Ellie asked.
"Part of the reason is the club needs to exist as a bit of mystery, and we protect it," Eleni said.
"So, why are you telling me this?" Ellie asked.
"Just want you to know why things are the way they are," Eleni said.
"Okay," Ellie said.
"Yes," Eleni said.
"What about some of the rumors?" Ellie asked.
"Just that, rumors, some of it is based on image, but we kept it going because it helps with the club's image," Eleni said.
"So, what are you asking?" Ellie said.
Eleni sighed, "Be truthful, but keep the mystery," she said.
Ellie nodded and looked towards the kitchen as Dylan Mason walked out. Ellie noticed he was carrying several platters as he put them down and looked over to the couch.
"Dinner's ready," Dylan said.
"Be right there," Eleni said, "Would you like some of the wine Ellie brought?"
"Yeah, I have something to bring out, but I'll have a glass with dinner," Dylan said.
"Okay, see you at the table, honey," Eleni said.
Ellie nodded and waved at Dylan. He waved back and returned to the kitchen. Ellie turned to Eleni.
"Please do that for me," Eleni said, and Ellie nodded in acknowledgment.
