Chapter 731: Stafford Townhouse

Tuesday, March 21st, Afternoon

The morning was shit, as she got up and looked in the mirror. She had many phone calls with the news delivered yesterday in the park. Every head of her various companies had to be given the heads up. This also involved talking with all the legal departments. After they were informed, she had a Zoom meeting with her corporation board.

Fallon Stafford sat in front of her laptop and adjusted her sweater. She removed her headset and closed the laptop. That meeting went well; it discussed strategy and how the corporation will handle this news. They agreed that Fallon would hire her own lawyer. The corporation would stay out of it, and if there were an indicted, Fallon would step aside; it was better to be prepared for the worst case.

After her meetings, Fallon went to her kitchen and made lunch. As it cooked, she picked up her phone and pressed a speed dial button.

"Yeah, it's me, Fallon; I'm going to need some legal PR type handler," Fallon said, "Yeah, some legal issues, have to meet with the feds. The foundation, yeah, I'll give her a call. I understand she can't represent me, but she knows someone who can. You'll send someone over; good, I need this to be clean and easily cleaned up; I have a family name to pass on. Of course, no, she can't; she's only fifteen, and yes, she still lives in North Carolina with her mom. Yes, thanks," Fallon said and hung up.

Fallon finished making her lunch and sat down at her kitchen table. She slowly ate and stared across the kitchen. A calendar on the wall showed it was the month of March. Sighing, she looked at the image of the Statue of Liberty. Fallon sighed and finished her lunch. As she cleaned up, Fallon kept looking at the Statue of Liberty. Once finished, Fallon went upstairs to her office and looked at her computer. The screensaver was a picture of her and her sisters; Tucker wasn't there that day, so he didn't get to mug for the camera.

Fallon focused on Keni in the picture and sighed. She had to protect these things for Keni. Fallon was just a caretaker, the mother of the family, but she had to ensure it could be passed down in better shape than when she took it over. Keni was almost the same age as she was when she took over, Fallon reflected.

After a heavy sigh, she went onto her computer. After a few moments, she came to what she was looking for. Fallon pulled out her smartphone and dialed the number she found.

Fallon waited as the phone rang. Once it connected on the other side, Fallon nodded, "Hello, could I speak with Ms. Caroline Carmichael, please? Yes, my name is Fallon Stafford," Fallon said.

The phone went on hold. A moment later, the phone connected again. "Caroline Carmichael, assistant district attorney," the voice on the other side said.

"Ms. Carmichael, it's Fallon Stafford; I'm friends with your daughter," Fallon said.

"I know who you are, Ms. Stafford; how may I help you," Ms. Carmichael said.

"I need to see the US Attorney soon," Fallon said.

"Why did you call me? I can't help you," Ms. Carmichael said.

"I know that I need advice on a good defense attorney," Fallon said.

"Okay, what have you gotten yourself into?" Ms. Carmichael asked.

"It's with the Stafford Foundation; I was checking the books and found some things that didn't add up. I reported it to my lawyer, we were investigated, and they're about to move into the next phase. I was suggested to have a lawyer and see the US Attorney," Fallon said.

"I see," Ms. Carmichael said.

"What do you think?" Fallon asked.

"It could be nothing; you could also be in trouble," Ms. Carmichael said.

"So, what am I to do?" Fallon asked.

"Get yourself a lawyer," Ms. Carmichael said.

"Why?" Fallon asked.

"They could be pressing charges on you, or it could be courteous for you, I don't know," Ms. Carmichael said.

"So, what do I do?" Fallon asked.

"Get yourself a lawyer," Ms. Carmichael said.

"I don't know any defense attorneys," Fallon said.

"I think I know someone that would do a good job for you," Ms. Carmichael said.

"Are they any good?" Fallon asked.

"Yes, they are," Ms. Carmichael said.

"How do I get a hold of them?" Fallon asked.

"Give me your email, and I'll send you the contact," Ms. Carmichael said.

"How soon can I talk to them?" Fallon asked.

"I will contact them to say you'll be calling," Ms. Carmichael said.

"Thank you," Fallon said.

"You're welcome, Ms. Stafford, and your email," Ms. Carmichael said. Fallon told Ms. Carmichael her email, and Ms. Carmichael read it back. Once everything was confirmed, Ms. Carmichael spoke once more. "Ms. Stafford, have a nice day, and good luck," she said.

"Thank you, Ms. Carmichael," Fallon said as the phone went dead. Fallon sighed just as her email dinged. She looked at it, and true to Ms. Carmichael's word, she sent the contact information. Fallon went online, checked out what she could, and called a corporate attorney about this person.

Once Fallon was satisfied, she picked up her smartphone and dialed a number. It rang a few times, and finally, someone picked up.

"Hello, I was recommended to you by Caroline Carmichael. Yes, it's about a meeting with the US Attorney in New York. Yes, price is no option," Fallon said, sighing, "Yes, this is a good number to reach me. My name? Yes, it's Fallon Stafford. Yes, that Fallon Stafford," she said and smiled, "Very well," she finished and ended the call.
