Chapter 5. Continued-
While Damon was showering, Bonnie was trying on different necklaces to wear, trying to keep her mind off how she felt minutes prior in the bathroom. She hadn't had time to really take in how quickly everything happened but was excited to finally have Sophia meet someone from her life in Mystic Falls. When Sophia and Bonnie first got to know each other, and Bonnie realized she could trust her she confided to her the different battles she had faced and overcome as well as Damon being injected with the cure which seemed fascinating to Sophia.
Meanwhile, Damon was in the shower in deep thought letting the water hit his hair and face as the water ran down the rest of his body. There were rare times when Damon was left speechless, especially regarding anything to do with Bonnie. He had always found her to be incredibly beautiful but never felt permission to seriously let her know. There were always small fleeting moments where she would flash him a smile or how the sun would hit her brown skin just right in the summer illuminating her beauty, the smell of her hair when she would flip it around him, and the way she smelled when the rain would hit her. He thought it was something he would miss now that he was human, his vampiric abilities helped him to smell the most subtle scents that would radiate off her and notice the most subtle way she moved and expressed herself, he realized a lot of it is just Bonnie, human or not she was captivating. The moments where he found himself attracted to her were moments he always tried to bury beneath the surface, he would tease her in ways to see what the boundaries were and how she would respond, every time he felt a moment between them, something would disrupt the moment, or she would inevitably bring up Elena which brought him the most guilt. Elena…he should be thinking about Elena, he shouldn't be in Tokyo he thought, but the feeling wasn't strong enough to weaken his impulses when it comes to even just being in Bonnie's orbit. The way she looked in the bathroom caught him off guard, she looked and smelled like a siren built from fire, he didn't feel worthy to even have her in his line of vision.
"Damon, we have about thirty minutes before we need to start heading down" Bonnie yelled from the other side of the door.
This helped Damon to snap out of his train of thought, he quickly turned off the shower and stepped out to dry himself off. He realized he didn't bring in his change of clothes and left them on the bed instead, so he stepped out of the bathroom to grab them with his towel around his waist. He noticed Bonnie struggling trying to clasp a gold chain around her neck while standing in front of the full-length mirror in the room.
"Here, let me help," Damon said softly as he walked up behind her.
"I can do this myself; I was dumb to moisturize my hands before putting it on" Bonnie responded trying not to make eye contact with Damon in the mirror.
Damon let out a sigh and grabbed the ends of the necklace from Bonnie's hands, Bonnie shuddered at the contact. Damon quickly was able to get the necklace connected, and they both stood there for a quick second looking at each other in the mirror before Bonnie broke the silence.
"We really have to go Damon" Bonnie started to walk towards her purse to make sure she had what she needed in it.
"Greatness cannot be rushed, and you know this" Damon said while finally getting his clothes together to change into.
Bonnie laughed and rolled her eyes at Damon.
Damon put on his signature black button-up, black denim, and black boots ignoring that he was sub-unconsciously going to match Bonnie. Once Damon walked out into the living room, Bonnie took in how striking his blue eyes were with his semi-wet raven locks framing his face.
"Shall we?" Damon put his arm out so Bonnie could lock her arm in his.
"If you're paying? We shall" Bonnie said while shooting Damon a smile.
"Just don't expect any sugar" Bonnie quickly followed up giving a playful serious look.
"Well, that changes everything" Damon responded sarcastically while rolling his eyes and then smiled down at Bonnie.
They were then off to go meet Sophia.
BBBBBBBBB
Once they made it to Hinokizaka and sat down at their reserved table with a beautiful view of Tokyo at night, Bonnie finally spotted Sophia.
"Damon there she is! Stand up so we can greet her!" Bonnie said excitedly.
Damon took a deep breath and narrowed his eyes to get a good look at the woman walking towards them.
"Sophia! Hi!" Bonnie exclaimed as she brought Sophia in for a hug.
"This is Damon, Damon Salvatore" Bonnie gestured to Damon.
Damon put his hand out to shake Sophia's hand.
"Wow, THE Damon Salvatore, it is a pleasure," Sophia stated while shaking his hand.
Damon felt the ring he was wearing shoot a small current of electricity.
"Likewise," Damon gave a suspicious smile before they both sat down.
Bonnie and Damon both sat across from Sophia, Sophia looked at both Bonnie and Damon trying to get a read on the latter.
"Thank you so much for coming Sophia, the day got away from both of us, extremely unexpected" Bonnie shot Damon a side eye with a smile.
"No need to apologize, I got to meet up with an old friend as well, Ewan, however, was expecting to meet up with us tonight, but I told him we were meeting up with an old friend of yours on the other side of town, he's picking up some things for you to make yourself more comfortable at the apartment, you are coming back tonight, yeah?"
Bonnie looked down at the table and then shot Damon a questioning look, Sophia noticed Damon tense up when she mentioned Ewan's name.
"Uhm I'm not sure, we'll see, Damon came all this way, and I'm not sure what his plans are."
The waiter came by and took their orders which helped to break up the awkwardness of the dinner.
"So Damon, what are your plans? How long are you planning to visit?" Sophia questioned him while giving him a warm smile.
"However long she'll let me, I know you guys have some plans coming up and she's adamant about not wanting me to ruin her magic mojo" Damon raised his eyebrows and smiled sarcastically before taking a drink of his bourbon.
"Had I known he was even coming here I would have made sure we left Tokyo quickly" Bonnie said jokingly.
"So, Damon, I've heard a lot about you, in the "witchy woo woo world" as you would call it, so I hear, and from Bonnie herself of course. A vampire cured from their vampirism, what is that like exactly?"
Bonnie bit her lip nervously as she played with a loose curl on her neck.
"Yeah, I'm going to need another bourbon for this conversation" Damon waved down the waiter to put in another order, Bonnie followed by asking for another one as well.
"It's nothing really, I didn't have much of a choice in the matter, the hangovers suck, the sex is enjoyable…in a different way, I use money now to get what I want, and I now have somewhat of an ETA on an expiration date" Damon grinned while taking a bigger gulp of his bourbon.
"Do you miss it?" asked Sophia.
"It's weird because before, people always asked me invasive questions on if I missed being human, and I've got to say it does get old because that seems to be something that doesn't feel different."
"Damon, don't be rude" Bonnie warned.
"No, he's fine Bonnie, I understand, my apologies" Sophia stated unbothered.
The waiter finally arrived with their meals.
"Before I had a ring to help make me stronger by allowing me to walk under the sun, now, I have a ring to protect myself from the supernatural world." Damon played with the ring with his thumb as he was looking at it and admiring Bonnie's power to make one for him and Elena in the first place.
"It works quite well, I haven't been able to read you or manipulate your emotions," Sophia said smiling at Damon and then at Bonnie, which made Damon scowl.
"She's an empath as well as a witch Damon, remember?"
"My abilities are in the same family as what you could do with compulsions, which I'm sure you used to your advantage quite a lot" Sophia shot Damon a look.
"Okay, guys, this is not how I expected this to go, I really just want to enjoy my night with two of my closest friends."
"Your closest friends live in Mystic Falls, Bonnie, not here" Damon stated as he got up from the table.
"I'm going to the bathroom, please continue without me" Damon smiled and walked away from the table.
"Was that necessary?" Bonnie confronted Sophia.
"Bonnie, I'm sorry but why is he here? And here alone? A friend doesn't travel for almost an entire day, out of their way to maybe get to see someone for a day.. maybe three."
"What are you implying?" Bonnie questioned.
"I just, I guess.. I didn't see an issue with this until I came and saw both of you for myself, I just want you to ask yourself, him barging in on this journey, is it helpful to who you need to be Bonnie? Or is it harmful? I don't think you would have taken it lightly, let alone spend the whole day with Elena or Caroline had they done the same" Sophia stated.
Before Bonnie could respond, Damon returned and sat back down.
"Sorry, I was checking in with Elena"
"Ah Elena, I've heard a lot about her as well, was she not able to join in on this impromptu visit?" Sophia inquired.
"Nope, just me" Damon responded trying to be tolerant of the conversation.
Bonnie groaned.
"Okay, new subject, Sophia, Damon says we have to try this Ramen place while we're here," Bonnie said with excitement.
They then all proceeded to finish dinner without bringing anything too serious up, with both Sophia and Damon wanting to please Bonnie and not upset her. After dinner, Bonnie showed Sophia Damon's suite and Damon offered to get them both a room at the hotel, but Sophia declined. After spending some time together and continuing the conversation, Bonnie started to put her things into one big shopping bag so she could leave with Sophia. Sophia went to use the bathroom which gave Damon an opening to speak with Bonnie privately.
"You owe me so many Scrabble wins after tonight," Damon said jokingly.
"Not a chance..thank you Damon for putting on your best behavior tonight, for "Damon" standards anyway". Bonnie laughed and kept folding her things to place in the bag.
"Stay, I promise I won't intrude on your journey any more than I already have, just a couple of days so I can show you the real Japan." Damon tried to give his best puppy dog eyes to Bonnie.
"What, you don't think Ewan is doing a great job?" Bonnie said with a smirk.
"The fact that he's not tearing down buildings just to find you tells me all I need to know, so no, I don't"
Bonnie rolled her eyes and laughed.
"Damon, some people behave like well-mannered adults and are confident in their skills that they don't need to obsessively find someone."
"I'm going to ignore that incredibly weak subtle dig and help you un-pack instead"
"If the shoe fits Cinderella," Bonnie said sarcastically while shrugging.
Once Sophia left the bathroom, she went to grab her purse so she could start heading out.
"Thank you, Damon, for your hospitality and for treating us to a delicious dinner" Sophia stated while going in for a hug from Damon, which Damon accepted and hugged back.
"Bonnie are you about ready to go?"
"Soph, go ahead without me, Damon promised a late-night showing of The Bodyguard, and we've never seen it in Japan, in a high-rise suite, so it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me," Bonnie said while looking up at Damon smiling.
"Alright! Well, you know how to reach me!" Sophia said while going in to give Bonnie a hug goodnight.
"I called a ride for you, they'll be ready once they make it down, it was nice to meet you Sophia, I'll take care of her" Damon walked Sophia to the door.
"I know you will Damon Salvatore" Sophia said with a deep breath.
After Sophia left, they both settled in for the night with Bonnie borrowing one of Damon's black t-shirts and pajama pants. They both fell asleep on the couch, with Bonnie's head on Damon's lap, both sleeping the best they had in months. They spent most of the next day sightseeing and going to different restaurants to try the best sandwiches, desserts, wagyu, sushi, and ramen. They stopped by Ewan's so Bonnie could pack a quick bag of more essentials ignoring Damon's many comments about his apartment. Bonnie was thankful he was at work but made sure to leave him a note on the counter before leaving. That night, after another amazing meal, Damon convinced Bonnie to go to Kyoto for the day and night by taking the bullet train. Bonnie agreed and convinced Sophia to stay in Damon's suite while they were gone by having Damon purchase different spa packages. After arriving in Kyoto, they finally got settled into their suite at the Ritz-Carlton Kyoto.
"I knew the Salvatore pockets ran deep, but I didn't know it was this deep," Bonnie said admiring the hotel as they were checking in.
"You were just too distracted by our dashing good looks and charm" Damon smiled while wiggling his eyebrows.
"Stefan sure, I'm not sure what your excuse was" Bonnie laughed.
Damon rolled his eyes and finished the check-in process so they could make it up to their room.
"So what is on the agenda today, you had me buy a bathing suit so I'm assuming swimming at some point?" Bonnie asked Damon.
"The pool here is amazing, I thought it would be a nice pre-dinner, post-sightseeing activity, plus all this walking has done wonders for your ass" Damon joked.
"You're gross, and impossible, it's also not my fault as a human you can't keep up with me anymore, so I'm glad my ass can keep you company."
"Makes the two of us" Damon raised his eyebrows and smiled which made Bonnie throw a pillow at him.
After a day of sightseeing, and picture taking which Bonnie made Damon promise to send to her e-mail, they made it back to the hotel so they could make their dinner reservations, Damon was able to bribe the owners to let them use the pool after dinner instead of before.
Bonnie put on a dark salmon-colored strapless tight maxi dress over her olive-green bandeau bikini set, with an oversized cropped white cardigan, she threw her hair up in a styled messy bun and put the earrings Damon gave her on and paired her outfit with white braided sandals. Damon put on his black t-shirt under his leather jacket and paired it with dark denim-colored pants and boots.
"You look adorable Bon-Bon" Damon said admiring her outfit.
"Don't let it fool you, I can still kick your ass in any and every board game" Bonnie responded playfully.
"I will not take these empty threats from someone wearing a cardigan" Damon joked back.
"Hey! You got this for me! I would've much rather have worn your t-shirt" Bonnie laughed while tugging on Damon's shirt.
"Sometimes I feel like you use me for my impeccable taste in fashion."
"Yeah, okay that's definitely what it is, let's go I am starving"
"After you witchy!"
At dinner, they went over different things they did throughout the day and joked about how horrible Bonnie's Japanese is and the different stories Damon had as a vampire in Japan. After too many bourbons and sake bombs, Damon paid for their meal, and they headed towards the pool.
Once they got to the pool, Damon started undressing himself to his black swim trunks and jumped into the pool splashing Bonnie.
"Damon! Seriously?!" Bonnie exclaimed, trying to pat down her outfit.
"Oh, stop whining and get in!" Damon responded, which rewarded him with a glare from Bonnie.
"Fine but no staring" Bonnie ordered taking off her cardigan.
"Seriously? What are we, in high-school?"
"Damon, there is a joke I can make about that, and you wouldn't like it"
"Fine" Damon rolled his eyes and turned around.
Bonnie kicked off her sandals and slid down her maxi, revealing her olive-green bandeau bikini set with high-waisted bottoms that barely covered her ass. Once Damon could hear her get in the water he finally turned around.
"Damn Bennett" Damon said admiring Bonnie's beauty and form.
"Do not get my hair wet Damon, I didn't bring any of my things with me" Bonnie ordered.
"Yeah, okay" Damon responded swimming towards Bonnie.
"I will say, this is a fun way to end the day, drunk swimming in Kyoto, can't say I'll ever do this again" Bonnie said leaning against the edge of the pool.
"Admit it, you had a way better time with me as your tour guide than that nerd."
"I'll blame this on the Sake and Bourbon but yes Damon, I've had the best time so far with you than anyone else or anything else"
"Even better than magical Miyagi?"
"Yes, but don't tell her" Bonnie laughed.
"I mean, Sophia has been great, and I wouldn't have gotten this far with my magic in a short period of time without her."
"I don't believe that Bonnie you're pretty great all on your own."
"Yeah, well pretty great has gotten me pretty dead a few times" Bonnie looked down at the water, creating little ripples with her fingers.
"Hey, you're not the only one who has had to die a few times, one of those times we at least got to do it together."
Bonnie gave a half smile at that.
"You even once said you wouldn't have picked anyone else to do that with" Damon leaned against the edge across from Bonnie.
"You know, even after everything I still wouldn't" Bonnie responded.
"What do you mean after everything?"
"Damon, when you decided to desiccate and left me alone when you promised that I wouldn't be alone again.. that really hurt me, and I know you've made up for it since then, and the letter you recited after the fact helped, but I really got into a dark place because of that, well not entirely because of that but it definitely contributed to that."
Damon looked away for a second before looking at the water and then looking at Bonnie.
"I will apologize for the rest of my now very short life, for as long as we both live, and even after, I'd find you wherever we go because I know we would not be going to the same place."
Bonnie shot Damon another side smile.
"Do you ever wonder how different things would be if we never had that time together... in the prison world?" Bonnie bit her lip nervously.
"I think about how different things would be in so many different situations." Damon responded while running his fingers through his wet hair.
"Like what?"
"Like if I had never hurt you the first time or hurt anyone you loved in the beginning."
"How would things be different?"
"Well.. first off, you probably would have tolerated me a lot more in the beginning, scary vampire and all" Damon waved his hands sarcastically.
"Mmm I don't think so" Bonnie laughed. "You were a little too old for my taste in the company I kept"
"You're telling me that you still would've picked baby Gilbert over me? Nu-uh I don't believe you"
"Wait, picked him over you? As in like.. dating?" Bonnie stood up straight in the water and folded her arms.
Damon didn't respond.
"Okay, I'm sorry, you think we could've or would've dated?!" Bonnie said with a surprised look on her face.
"Oh don't act so surprised judgey, I'm irresistible and I remember all the very short moments when I could tell you wanted me."
Bonnie stood there shocked and confused.
"Okay.. name one!" Bonnie playfully asked.
"Germany! When you got so adorably wasted and we almost kissed waiting for our ride"
"I don't remember that at all" Bonnie laughed "But I enjoy your wild imagination."
"What do you mean you don't remember? I know we didn't talk about it the next day, but it is definitely one of the many moments that are ingrained in my brain."
They both stood there in the water looking at each other waiting for the other person to interject and say more.
"Damon, we should go, you need to check in with Elena," Bonnie said slowly turning around to head towards the stairs in the pool.
Damon pulled her back around to him.
"No, you do this every time Bonnie, this is the first time we get to have this conversation and I'm not running from it, stop using Elena as a shield to how you feel..or felt, about me." Damon said intently staring into her green eyes to help her see reason.
Bonnie let out a short non-amused laugh, not knowing how quickly they got from joking around to this conversation.
"Wow..Damon, that is so extremely rich coming from you and I'm not going to let you project your bizarre feelings onto me, once you're honest for one, with yourself first, and two, honest with me, then we could have whatever conversation you're trying to have right now." Bonnie could feel her face getting hot, not knowing if it was from the sake bombs or the conversation they were having.
"Bonnie, please, just please, I don't believe for a second that you don't feel something for me and haven't for a while, I need you to just allow yourself, give yourself permission to be honest with how you feel" Damon was now holding onto both of her shoulders.
Bonnie could feel the tears in her eyes come to the surface, she closed her eyes and allowed what was buried and blocked deep inside to come to the surface.
"What kind of person would I be Damon, what kind of friend would I be to admit something like that, please don't make me.." Bonnie said trying not to let more tears come out.
"You'd be someone who is honest and someone who has had to sideline their entire life for the people they love..I've been there, with Katherine, with Stefan…with Elena"
"And what about Elena, Damon?" Bonnie asked with tears rolling down her face.
"We both have died for her and sacrificed so much so you two could be together, so she could be happy so you could be happy."
Damon started to wipe her tears.
"I love Elena, she was the first person to make me feel like I'm worth something, to love me in the same toxic, obsessive, intensity the way I love her..but.. I can't stand here and say that this is the life I now want for myself now that I have it, now that I know what it's like to slowly start losing you, and I don't have lifetimes to make you forgive me, to make you see me as a man capable of loving you and treating you how you deserve to be loved and treated. I'm trying to understand how, when, or why I started to feel this way about you, long before today, longer than I'd like to admit, but I'm saying it now, I love you Bonnie Bennett and not like a best friend, not like someone who has saved me more times than I can count, more than I deserved, not in an obsessive, toxic way but in a way where I want to fly thousands of miles to see you, just to see you smile, laugh, and annoy you so your face scrunches up in the most adorable way, in a way where I'd refrain to touch you if didn't give me permission to do so, in a way where I would blow up my entire new lousy human life just to make you the happiest, I'd keep you safe and loved for lifetimes if I could."
Bonnie stood there in the water speechless, with her face red and puffy from crying.
"Damon, I.."
"I don't care if you don't feel the same, you know I have shitty impulse control and am honest to a fault. And maybe the bourbon sped up the process, but I mean every word I just said."
"Can we go upstairs? I just need to lay down" Bonnie calmly said.
They both got out of the pool and dried off so they could change into their clothes, both comfortable in the silence between them. Bonnie had a million thoughts going on in her mind and didn't really care about the consequences of Damon's admission at the moment, she knew how she felt but she didn't yet know how to put them into words without falling completely apart. They made it back to the hotel room too exhausted to take showers so they both changed into their pajamas, with Bonnie changing into Damon's black t-shirt again.
Damon stood in front of the window taking in the view of Kyoto with a glass of Bourbon as Bonnie settled into the bedroom finding a show to put on to go to sleep to. Bonnie, however, couldn't rest, she wanted nothing but to ignore every single impulse she kept buried to go into the other room and tell Damon how she felt. She slowly stepped out of the bed and into the living room of the suite and walked up to Damon who could see her in the reflection of the window. Bonnie took the glass out of his hand and walked it to the nearest table.
"No teasing Damon, promise?"
Damon nodded and stared intently at her as she walked back towards him.
"This only goes as far as I want it to, and we, we just handle everything else as the days come, okay?"
Damon nodded again not wanting to ruin the moment by making any type of movement that could break the tension.
Bonnie looked to her left to take in the view of Kyoto at night and slowly looked back up at Damon. She then placed her hands on his hips as she stood on her toes to reach his face, they both took a second to breathe each other in as she slowly moved her hands to wrap around his neck and he wrapped himself into her.
At that moment Bonnie finally allowed herself to let go and started to place slow kisses on his jawline with him responding by bending down to place deep kisses on her neck. He then picked her up and headed towards the couch to sit down. Once Damon sat on the couch with Bonnie straddling him, they met each other's lips with fire and electricity. Bonnie grabbed onto the back of his hair to yank it backward as she began kissing his neck which caused him to groan. She then kissed her way back up to his lips with hunger, where they stayed for a minute as their hands explored each other. Damon started to place his hands underneath her shirt which caused her to start breathing harder and caused their kissing to be a bit rougher.
Bonnie finally pulled away still straddling Damon's lap.
"It goes no further than this, I can't" Bonnie said breathing heavily.
"I know, I know, are you okay? We can stop if you need some time" Damon said as he was rubbing her sides softly.
"Yeah, let me, uhm, get some water" Bonnie shot Damon a smile, as she got up to grab her water from the bedroom.
"Do you want anything?" Shouted Bonnie from the other room.
"No, I'm good right here, you take your time" Damon shouted back, grabbing a pillow to cover his hardness.
Bonnie walked into the bathroom and saw how swollen her lips were and took note of how aroused she had gotten in her short grey pajama shorts.
"What am I doing, what am I doing" Bonnie repeated to herself in the mirror. Bonnie took her hair out of her messy bun to run her fingers through her hair to make it more presentable as if that were even necessary, she then placed it back into a messy bun on top of her head.
After she left the bathroom, she walked into the living room and stood in the doorway.
"I don't want to sleep alone tonight" Bonnie stated with her arms crossed.
Damon looked at her wishing he knew what she was thinking but took the cue to get up and follow her into the bedroom.
Once they were in the bedroom, they both got into the bed without speaking, Bonnie turned on her side to face Damon, who turned onto his side.
"What do we do Damon"
"About what Bonnie"
"About me loving you too…in the same way" Bonnie's eyes started to fill with tears again.
"We don't have to figure that out at this moment," Damon said while pulling Bonnie close to him.
Damon placed a kiss on Bonnie's forehead, and she quickly fell asleep wrapped into him.
The morning came quickly, with Damon waking up before Bonnie. Not wanting to wake her, he decided to slowly get dressed to go into town and pick up some flowers and breakfast for her before she woke up. He knew how hard it was for Bonnie to admit how she felt, and how hard it was for her to let go. He only knew one thing; he wasn't leaving her side again and needed to go home to explain himself to Elena. Life was too short, and he didn't want anymore will they, won't they, moments. After he purchased the flowers, he noticed Sophia waiting for him outside the door.
"Should I even ask how you found me? I thought you couldn't because of this" Damon shot a sarcastic smile and put up his right hand and wiggled his fingers to show his ring.
"I can still track her, and once I did, it wasn't hard to follow you" Sophia smiled back while Damon scowled.
"What exactly do you think you're doing Damon?" asked Sophia.
"Getting flowers for the woman I love and who loves me back, I hope you weren't holding out for her and Evan" Damon joked.
"Ewan, and not funny, I'm serious."
Damon's car had pulled up to take him back to the hotel.
"Get in" Damon said with an annoyed sigh.
They both got in the car to head back to the hotel.
"Why do you care? You've known Bonnie for how long? Barely a year.. if that?" Damon questioned.
"Longer than you know" Sophia responded and then quickly incanted a spell in French to have privacy from the driver.
"She won't remember anything from last night" Sophia stated.
"What?! Why?" Damon asked in annoyance.
"Damon, do you think it's a coincidence that Bonnie genuinely doesn't remember certain things about your friendship until you coax them out of her?"
"I just thought she was being pious" Damon said looking at the flowers he got for her.
"How old do you think I am Damon?"
"Is this a trick question? I'm not sure I like this game."
Sophia incanted a spell that showed her true self, forever aged 25. Damon narrowed his eyes at her.
"Bonnie doesn't know this yet, because she's not supposed to, not yet, but she thinks I'm around her mom's age, but I'm more around what was your ancestor's name again? Oh yeah, Silas" Sophia said with a smile at Damon's disgusted face.
"My destiny is tied into the Bennett's line and several others, one including a distant relative of yours, and if the fate of all supernatural's is to survive, Bonnie needs more training and guidance than the amount of time we have to give her. And you're probably asking yourself why you should care, which trust me, I understand, but the fate of the world, of the universe, is in our hands, I don't know if she's the key to our prophecy or not, but from what I have seen from her at such a young age, I can't imagine it being anyone else."
Damon sat there more annoyed than ever and wishing he wasn't human so he could have the strength to throw her out of the car.
"What does that have to do with me," Damon asked still staring at the flowers, ignoring Sophia's gaze as if she were to turn him into stone if he looked into her eyes.
"Not only as a Vampire were you cruel, and impulsive and helped to place her in the most precarious situations, situations I know Emily Bennett didn't agree with when you swore to protect her line, to protect Bonnie. But with the intensity that she loves you, at such a young age, without even tapping into the tips of her power, she would never be strong enough to face what she is destined to face, what she's capable of, and could die, again, without knowing true peace, and in turn, the whole universe would cease to exist, some things are bigger than love Damon, she's bigger than what you can offer her, as a vampire and definitely as a human."
"What do you mean she won't remember what happened yesterday," Damon asked finally looking at Sophia.
"What I mean is, Emily Bennett, and other ancestors, have worked hard to keep Bonnie safe, from getting into problems with vampires, let alone loving them. You were supposed to keep her safe, keep her alive until it was time for her to fully come into her own, the battle with hellfire is not even a prequel for what's to come, Damon, she needs to stay focused, and the situation you're about to put her through is not going to help, even worse now that she would have to mourn you. I can only hope that when the spell breaks that causes her to forget these moments with you once you pass, she'll be strong enough to get through it and remain focused."
"I don't understand, when I go, she'd be right behind me," Damon asked trying to hide how upset he was getting.
"That's not your current concern, I think we're almost back, if you love her Damon and I mean truly love her, you'll keep her safe by letting her go and continue to be a support system for her."
"She'll never forgive you or Emily for keeping this from her once she finds out, and I'm not letting some weird sci-fi prophecy keep her from doing what she wants"
"You say that now Damon, I implore you to go home first before putting your selfish needs before the needs of literally everyone else on this planet, and then you can decide if it's worth it, letting her go now means that she can find happiness, and be strong enough to where she doesn't need mine or your protection, she'd be more upset knowing that there was something she could do to save all her friends, who are supernatural, and they cease to exist for a moment in time with you, this includes any children Elena would have, as they all would have traveler blood," Sophia said sternly.
They finally made it back to the hotel and before Damon walked inside, he turned around to see a now older Sophia looking back at him nodding before turning around and walking away. Damon tried not to become angry before seeing Bonnie, especially if what Sophia had to say wasn't true, which deep down he knew it was. Once he walked inside, he saw a freshly showered Bonnie in a bathrobe with her hair pulled into a high ponytail.
"Damon! Finally, I am starving! Are those flowers for me?" Bonnie exclaimed as she ran up to smell them.
"Yeah, sorry I meant to pick up breakfast for us both but got distracted" Damon shot Bonnie a smile, trying to decipher if she remembered the night before or not.
"It's fine I found the treats we got in the sweets store yesterday, I reeked of chlorine so I had to shower, I can't believe you convinced me to go swimming last night and then not yell at me to shower, I had the best sleep last night though, was the couch okay for you? You really should start getting rooms with two beds."
Damon felt dizzy with Bonnie's morning monologue, clearly not remembering their night. Seeing how happy she was, and not crying like she was the night before, made him not want to push the subject for now.
"Bon, I think I need to go home once we get back to Tokyo"
"Yeah, for sure, Elena has something to tell you, she said she'd let me know once she told you first. I'm just glad we got to spend some time together, I don't think where we're going has any kind of reception, so I won't be able to see or talk to you, just more spelled postcards, and notes." Bonnie frowned.
Damon walked towards Bonnie and pulled her into a tight hug.
BBBBBBBBBB
Damon didn't press the issue any further on their way back to Tokyo or when she dropped him off at the airport, he didn't want to say or do anything until talking to Elena first.
Elena couldn't pick him up from the airport, so she sent Alaric instead. Once Alaric dropped Damon off at their new place near Whitmore, Damon went straight inside to talk to Elena.
"Damon!" Elena exclaimed, jumping into Damon's arms, and giving him the biggest kiss on the lips.
"I've missed you so much, you have got to tell me everything! Bonnie told me you guys got gifts for me too! I can't wait to see them, but first I have got to show you something." Elena pulled Damon upstairs to follow him into their bedroom.
"Yeah Elena, I actually need to talk to you about something before we get into anything..it's about me and Bon.." Before he could finish his sentence, Elena interjected.
"I'm pregnant Damon!" Elena exclaimed with the biggest smile and tears in her eyes. Damon at that point dropped down to his knees to hold Elena's stomach and started tearing up as well.
I know I know I know :') so much to say about this second half of chapter 5, my heart breaks for Bonnie and Damon, and I wish people would let Bonnie be! I promise you though so much good stuff is coming in the future to make up for everything, just have to get past everything else!
