I do not own…
During her days in the Edo era, Miroku and Sesshomaru had helped Kagome with her ability of sensing auras. Nowadays she can tell who is young and old, male or female, if they are happy, sad and afraid, and many other things. Every now and then she would use her ability to help find missing people. That is why certain people from the FBI, Baltimore Police, parents and loved ones call for her as she has helped people in the past. Yesterday she was called upon by her neighbor Richard, a detective from the Baltimore Police. Two brothers, ages 11 and 8, were kidnapped when they were walking back home from soccer practice. Kagome quickly helped as she knew the time limit for child abductions weren't high. While the police were profiling and searching who it could be while the priestess went into mediation mode and started searching where the boys could be. It took a few minutes but she was able to locate them and told Richard and the rest of the police squad. The creep was found, along with some of his trophies from other victims but the boys weren't in the cabin. Kagome searched for the boy's auras and was able to pinpoint where he was hiding them. She walked into the woods with Richard and his partner Henry following behind her.
"Over here!" She called
She hurried over to a fake bush and moved it away, along with a few leaves. Underneath was a door to an underground bunker. After unlocking the large hatch lock they all hurried inside and called out for the boys.
"Billy! Kyle!" They called
Walking in they saw the two boys in separate cages, crying and huddling to the corner.
"We found them. They're alive." Richard said on his walkie-talkie.
The two cops hurried to get the boys' out while Kagome stood in the middle and looked back at the door. She heard a low whisper calling for her at first and when she looked out the door she saw another boy around the same age. Kagome knew that he was a ghost. So she followed him outside when he walked away. When she followed, the ghost boy stood a few distance away from the bunker, along with three other boys.
"He buried your bodies here." She said
They nodded before disappearing when Richard called her name.
"Kagome? Kagome?"
"Over here." She said
He quickly walked over towards and saw the tears in her eyes.
"What's wrong?" He asked
"There are three more bodies buried right here." She told him.
Knowing better than to question her Richard called for backup and the forensic team to dig the area. Kagome sat on the side lines and sighed a little. She was glad that she was able to save these boys but felt sadness for those she was unable to save. At least now their souls were in peace.
When she was no longer needed, Richard took her back to the police station. They said their goodbyes to each other before going their separate ways. She had to pick up a few things before heading home. When she was about to head home her car engine light turned on and it started slowing down.
"What? No. No." She muttered "Come on."
When she saw that her hood was smoking she knew that she had to pull over soon. The priestess placed it in park and turned her car off before getting out. She opened the hood to let out the smoke but didn't know what else to do. After taking out her phone she called her insurance towing company before calling her mechanic of her situation. The man knew her well and told her that he'll wait and take the car in but he would have to check it tomorrow as it was near closing time. Luckily it was still daylight but it won't stay that way for long. She sighed and leaned against her car, waiting for the tow truck. After twenty minutes a car pulled over. Kagome tensed a little as she knew who it was because of his aura.
"Kagome Higurashi?" Hannibal said as he got out of his car and looked over hers. "Car trouble?"
"Dr. Lecter. Um...yeah, I must have faulty wire or something." She said "I already called for a tow truck, they should be here soon."
He walked over to her car to check out but saw that there was nothing that he could do. A tow truck appeared not a minute later. Hannibal stayed with her the whole time as they asked questions and actually for once she was glad he stayed. The driver couldn't stop eyeing her and made some remarks towards her. Kagome noticed Hannibal's jaw tensed as the man did this and looked at him with a cold stare.
"Alright, it's all hooked up, ma'am." The Man named Steve said "If you would like, I can take you to your home."
"Like I told your boss, you're taking it to my mechanic." She said with a stern voice.
"Okay, hop in." He said
"Ms. Higurashi, if you don't mind I can drive you." Hannibal suggested
Seeing her choices Kagome chose Hannibal. He may have a dark soul but at least he has manners and wouldn't try anything. If he tries anything she knows how to handle herself and has two switchblades. One in her right boot and the left sleeve of her jacket.
"Yes, Dr. Lecter, I would like that, thank you." She said
The man scoffed before walking back to his truck and waited for them to follow. Hannibal helped her in his car before getting in himself and drove off. The drive to his was quiet besides the classical music that was being played. His eyes were on the road but she could feel his eyes glance at her ever so often. Kagome knew that there was something off about Hannibal but she didn't know what yet. Truthfully since the opera place she was hoping to never see him again but lately she has noticed him in a few areas that she goes to. Like the Farmers Market, the bakery, butcher shop and other places. He made some small talk with her at times but wasn't bothering her completely. She had a feeling that he was following her though. This just made her more paranoid. Bear sure didn't like him either and would always keep a barrier between him and her by giving him a warning growl. She could see the irritation in his eyes but he was always calm, kind and polite before he left. For that she always gives Bear a big treat for being her protector.
It didn't take long to get to her mechanic and they took her car in. Hannibal watched as the tow truck driver Steve left and looked at the licence plates. He looked away when Kagome came out of the shop.
"Uh...thank you again for taking me here." She said "I think I'm just gonna call for a cab."
"I don't mind taking you home. It would be rude if I left you alone." Hannibal said
Unable to think of a reason to say no she agreed.
The car ride was quiet again but this time Hannibal tried to make conversation with her.
"Are you alright, you seem distressed?" He asked
"It's just been a very eventful day." She said "I just thought that I would be used to it by now."
Her mind was still thinking about the children from before.
"Would you like to talk about it?" He asked "It might help."
"You might find it weird. Most people do." She said
"You'll be surprised how much of an open mind I have." He replied
Mentally sighing as she did want to talk to someone about this. She was just hoping it was with Will, thinking that he might understand.
"I...sometimes help the police when children get abducted. I was born with an ability to sense people's auras, along with another gift." She started "I was able to find two boys from this predator. We were able to get there in time before he could do anything to them."
"You saved them but something went wrong." He said
"My other ability...I can see the dead. Ghost. I've been able to see them since I was 15. Back where we found the boys, I saw the ghost of three other boys that he killed." She explained "They weren't known as missing. Nobody was looking for them."
To her surprise he didn't react like some doctor in his profession has done or skeptics that didn't believe in the supernatural.
"And now you are being plagued with the Ifs." He said "You shouldn't let your mind wander there. What happened, was meant to be? You found them when no one else could."
"No offense Doctor, but I didn't think you're the type to believe in fate." She said
"I believe that things happened for a reason." He said with a light smile.
Kagome didn't know if she should smile or be more tense at the remark. After a few minutes they arrived at her apartment building.
"Thank you for the ride Dr. Lecter." She said as she got out of her stuff from his trunk.
"If you don't mind, I would like to invite you to dinner at my house this coming Friday." He said
This took her by surprise and didn't know how to answer it.
"If Friday is no good for you, we can have it when you are available." He said
Now he made it where it's not optional to bail out.
'I guess there's no way out of this.' She thought 'It would be rude to decline after his generosity.'
"No, Friday is fine with me." She said
"Wonderful. Do you have any dietary restrictions?" He asked
This made her raise a brow at the question but shook her head no.
"No. I'm not allergic to anything."
"Alright, then I will see you Friday. Good evening." He said
He took her hand into his and kissed it before leaving.
"Why do I feel that I just made a dreaded mistake?" She muttered to herself before heading inside.

A few days after that Kagomes' neighbors, Richard and his wife Jill had asked the priestess if she could babysit for them. They have been planning this date night for two weeks and this morning their babysitter called in sick. Jill had called members of their family that lived near to watch them but no one was able to. Kagome was next on their list and she didn't mind as she had watched their kids before.
When 5:30 came, Kagome went over to her neighbors' apartment to watch the kids with Bear. Richard had let them in and after a few minutes the couple said goodbye to the kids and thanked Kagome again for helping. The priestess already had things planned for them, like playing games, getting movies, and for dinner she called for pizza. The kids had fun playing with Bear and playing games with Kagome. When the pizza came she placed their slices on the paper plates and they ate in the living room where they watched movies she brought.
So far the night was going well and the kids ended up falling asleep on the couch around 8:40pm. Once she carefully placed them in their beds, Kagome left the door halfway open and started cleaning the kids' mess. When she was done she took the last pizza slice and watched a few movies that she had brought for herself. She ended up falling asleep a little around 11. Bear had stayed awake as he smelled something he didn't like. That and along with blood and a human corpse. He kept his eyes on the front door when he heard footsteps walking down the hallway. Whoever it was, it entered their home and stayed there for many 20 or 30 minutes then it left. Bear tensed up when it got near and held in a growl and didn't stop until it was completely gone. When it was around 12:45 Bear woke Kagome up when Jill and Richard came home.
"How were the kids?" Jill asked
"They were great. We played some games. Had some pizza. And watched a few movies." Kagome said "They fell asleep around 8:40. How was date night?"
"It was going well, until Richard thought he should bust some moves on the dance floor of the roller rink and fall on his ass." Jill said
She patted her husband's butt, making him wince.
"Hey, I still think I killed it out there." Richard said
Jill and Kagome looked at each other and giggled a little. After grabbing the bag with the movies they said their goodnights and Kagome and Bear headed back to her apartment. That was until Bear stopped and growled at the door. Kagome looked at it and noticed that her door was slightly open. She didn't sense anything but didn't want to risk it so she knocked on Jill's and Richards' door. When she told them about how her door was slightly open Richard went to get his gun and badge. With Bear by his side Richard went to check it out. He opened the door wide and turned on the light.
"If anyone is in here better come out with your hands up. I'm a cop and I am armed." He said
He and Bear walked carefully inside as he looked and listened for anything out of the ordinary. After checking the cloak closet next to the front door before turning on the kitchen lights and the living room lights. It was the living room that got his attention as there was severe arm wrapping in a bouquet of roses and lilies on the coffee table.
"Oh fuck…" He muttered
He then checked the bedrooms and the bathroom but saw no one or any other body part.
"Richard?" Jill asked
She and Kagome were standing by their apartment door waiting for him and Bear.
"Well?" Kagome asked
"We need to call the police." He said ushering them inside. "Someone broke in but left a severed arm in your living room."
While he called the police Kagome called Will as she believed this was the Chesapeake Ripper. Just the thought of that made her really worried as he knew where she lives and what apartment number is hers. That led to him calling Jack and his team. From the looks of things it was the Ripper. They asked her questions as they checked the place and she answered them. Will stood by her side the whole time to make sure she was alright. While they looked around she checked the apartment herself and noticed a few things missing. Like a photo of her and her family in Japan that she took last year, her favorite leather jacket and the pearl and moon necklace her mother gave her on her eighteen birthday.
"What do you see Will?" Jack asked
"He left this as a gift for her. Like with the others this is his way of saying he's protective of her." Will said "His love for her. The stuff that he took is so he could have something of hers...to keep something of her close."
"Doesn't he sound romantic." Kat muttered
"What does this man want from me? Why would he think I would appreciate...this?" Kagome asked
She was sitting down in her room with Bear to comfort her.
"He doesn't think like a normal person does." Will said as he walked in the room and sat down next to her. "I promise Kagome, I won't let him harm you."
"Do you have somewhere to stay?" Jack asked
"Jill and Richard said that I could stay with them but I don't want to get them involved in this." Kagome said "I have to find a hotel that would let dogs in."
"You could stay with me." Will suggested
"Are you sure?" She asked "I don't want to force you into anything.:
"I don't mind." Will said "I want to help you."
"Thank you." She nodded and stood up. "Just let me pack a night bag."
He nodded and went to wait for her in the living room. Kagome packed light for her stuff and grabbed Bear's things. Once she was sure she got what she needed she told Will and they left. It took an hour for them to reach his house in Wolf Trap, Virginia. When they got out of the car Kagome was a bit surprised by how many dogs Will had but smiled. It was clear that he cared and loved his pets and the same could be said about dogs. He was definitely their alpha as they listened to him when he told them to calm down and backed off when they tried to jump on her.
"Everyone, this is Kagome and Bear. They are gonna stay here for a few nights." Will said "Be nice to them."
Seeing how calm they were, Kagome decided to unleash Bear and let them get to know each other.
"Uh, it's not much but…" Will said
"You have a wonderful house, Will." She said
"Thank you. Um...let me give you the tour." He said
The living room was large enough to be both a bedroom and living room as there was a bed in there. Kitchen and a bathroom was on the first floor and on the second floor there were two bedrooms and another bathroom. She was gonna take the bed downstairs but Will explained that it was his room so he let her take one of the rooms upstairs. It didn't take long for her to fall asleep but after an hour she was woken up by some muttering. She went to check it out and found out that it was Will. He was tossing and turning in his bed, even sweating a little. She knew that his mind was being plagued by dark minds of those he looked into. So to ease his mind she decided to cleanse it for him. With her touch he easily leaned against her touch. Wanting to go back upstairs herself she was going to stand up and head back but she was too tired too. Not thinking Will would mind she got in the covers and lay down with him. Before she could fall deeply asleep Bear decided to jump on the bed and sleep between them. Kagome smiled and patted his head before finally falling to sleep.
