In the present day of the year 2010, after four million years of silence, Mount St. Hilary erupts, its volcanic activity stirring the half-buried Ark and reawakens Teletraan I, the Autobots' semi-sentient supercomputer AI. Launching a Sky Spy probe to scan the planet, Teletraan scans local vehicles and machinery as the Transformers' alternate modes as their personal use. With this knowledge, the computer sets about rebuilding and reactivating the ship's occupants, reconfiguring their alternate modes to match Earth's machines. Damaged from the crash, Teletraan I is unable to tell friend from foe, and restores both Autobots and Decepticons alike. After checking themselves over, the Decepticons took on the form of their heavily-armed military and offroad vehicle forms to leave the Ark and return to their ship, the Nemesis. Starscream wishes to stay and finish off the Autobots, Megatron refuses as the 'Cons are outnumbered and underfueled. This leaves the Autobots to set about attempting to repair the Ark. Reviewing the footage the ship's probe has gathered from across the planet, the Autobots learn of Earth's lifeforms, and Optimus Prime vows to protect the humans and their planet from the Decepticon menaces he has accidentally unleashed upon them.
Meanwhile, the Decepticons discover the crash-site of the Nemesis, now buried within the seabed of the Atlantic Ocean. After repurposing their former spaceship as a underwater sea fortress, Megatron learns from the Decepticons' computer, Tripredacus, that they cannot pinpoint the AllSpark's exact location on Earth nor can they contact reinforcements on Cybertron due to interference. Dismissing this for the time being, Megatron demands to know if this new world has energon, which Tripredacus confirms to his elation. It also informs Megatron that Earth has a large abundance of resources that can be easily converted into synthetic energon, allowing them to fuel the Decepticon war machine for millions of ano-cycles.
As the lines of the new battlefield are drawn, humanity will forever be changed as the world is unknowingly dragged into a war of titans.
The next and final phase of the Third Cybertronian Civil War is set as the War on Earth begins...
